Manjaro is a Linux Distro that’s always been at the forefront of linux evolution. Latest and greatest of all the software, Best in class desktop experiences, unbeatable customization. The list just goes on. It’s in a league of its own.
I use a ton of different Linux distros and while many big names are deviating from their core message, Manjaro is becoming more appealing than ever before. In a world where, snaps and flatpaks are touted around like they are the next big things, half a decade old packages are pushed to users in the name of stability, control is taken away from the users to promote user-friendliness, in this world, Manjaro offers a computing experience that has freedom, the newest tech and full control over your system.
I don’t know about you, but that’s exactly why I use Linux and not proprietary stuff.
So today, I’m thrilled to take you on this journey where we see what things manjaro brings to the table that make it a top Linux distro in 2024. Let’s take a deep dive and explore the big reasons, and trust me, there are some compelling ones. You might be missing out by not using Manjaro today.

Manjaro has 3 levels of "rollingness": stable, unstable, and testing, depending on how much risk one can tolerate. I go with the "Stable" branch, because I'm more interested in stability than in trying a lot of untested stuff. To determine what branch you're on, do "pacman-mirrors --get-branch". To change branch, do "sudo pacman-mirrors --api --set-branch {branch}". If you want "set it and forget it", other distros may serve you better (PureOS, LMDE, Debian, Fedora, Mint, etc). Manjaro is more for those who like the frequent updates of Arch but without the horrific Arch installation experience.

@Hatley-Software

Re "little things started breaking": So? Fix them! There is not an OS in existence which doesn't have "little things" (and in some cases HUGE things) wrong with it. And least with GNU/Linux distros, one _can_ fix the problems. Whereas with closed-source monstrosities such as Microsoft Windows, often the bugs _can't_ be fixed, because not even Microsoft programmers have access to all of the source code, so most employees can't help you with most problems. The most any one "VIP" can do is rattle off "common solutions to common problems". For less-common problems, they'll tell you: "Try uninstalling-and-reinstalling windows. If that doesn't fix the problem, throw your computer in the garbage and buy a new one with Windows pre-installed. If that doesn't work, just live with the problem. Now go away and stop bothering me."

@@johnnyblack4261 You would THINK that, but Garuda and Manjaro have issues as far as I can tell with something in how the I/O drivers seems to operate. I use Arco Linux as main system, and Manjaro KDE occasionaly as a second, and Linux Mint as a rarely used backup system. Some ppl comment about Manjaro's out-of-date certificates. All I know is that if there are out-of-date certificates it has never affected my experience using Manjaro. I have a lot of AUR packages installed, and never had a case of broken dependencies in all my years using it. If it ever happened I'II deal with it. I think the team of devs do a fantastic job and as far as I'm concerned the Manjaro distro rocks.

Well this is an one sided review. Here are some downsides regarding each point. Not a hater of majaro. I am just sharing my experiences. Here are 7 reasons why you shouldn't use manjaro: 1. You dont get "CUTTING EDGE SOFTWARE". Manjaro holds back updates for weeks, sometimes even months. Independent of arch linux means it has it's own set of problems. When you have a broken installation after just updating, it is much harder to fix your system then "JUMPING FROM VERSION TO VERSION". "Tested" means just holding back packages for weeks. 2. Just use AUR with manjaro repos and see your system packages fail catastrophically. Aur is always the latest and manjaro hold backs updates for "TESTING". What if two packages have same dependencies? Ans: You break your system. The usage is very simple. 3. "Deep level of customization"? just switch the default kde theme and whala, you have a broken theme. Still usable tho! And switching kernels is nothing unique to manjaro.(Except for manjaros magical tweaks which breaks my system every time I update.) Well, this is unique! It's all about choice. And knowledge and experience doesn't help you here.(A course might!) 4. You can get even better performence on Vanilla Arch, Nobara or NixOs. And "official" repo packages breaks unlike Flatpaks. And let's not talk about AUR again. Native packages can also help you cock up your system packages in Manjaro. All this is justified in the name of slightly better performence? FU**. Just install xfce on other distros for gods sake. 5. Nothing compared to arch community and archwiki. Need not say anything else in this regard. 6. "Surprisingly Suitable System for Gaming" Is this qoute of the year? Am I getting cancer? "Newest More Optimized Drivers" can't help but fu**ing with steam tho. But look Super tux cart is playable on manjaro!! So it is on my calculator. Steam is not unique on Manjaro. 7. Simplified version of arch is not manjaro. Well it was. Definetly not denying that. Now is just more headace. Just use archinstall script or EndeavourOS if you prefer a GUI DE. "There is stability as well"??????? Wow! Well i do not bother with this channel promoting distros only showing their shiny and cool features when the distro is not usually problemetic. But manjaro is not like that. You should maintain a minimum level of honesty while presenting a distro considering a huge number of people are gonna install manjaro just because of this video while not judging manjaro properly. I am not against you promoting your course whatsoever. You may like manjaro. So do I. It was my first arch based distro to try. But in case of manjaro (any rolling release distro as well) you should emphesise on bad sides. Specially stability considering you explained it as fairly stable which is not the case or at least I wasn't lucky with it. But when promoting to newcomers you should maintain proper honesty. I think tis video in particular is quite a hypocritical one.

Ok, but... 1. Don't a lot of Arch Linux users hold back their updates to try and keep their systems stable as well? 2. For some reason it comes disabled by default. For extra sofware, people should use the flatpaks instead. 3. Never happened to me. In fact, is interesting how they update their own theme along with the system. I don't need anything else. 4. That's relative. It also depends on your own hardware and usually the differences are minimal. 5. That's personal preference. 6. Now you're becoming a hater. That's absurd!. Manjaro runs Steam games just like any other distro. 7. I think is better than that. It's more like its own thing. Stop being a zealot and use whatever you like :) Linux is about choice.

Garuda sometimes forgets where my mouse is, can't reliably recognize a USB drive, sometimes forgets where my printer is.. it's just rolling the dice (though rebooting usually fixes it) for actual productivity. It's 99/100 for running Steam games, though. But I do more than run my PC as a game box. I tried it for 6 months and it's just not stable enough. Manjaro also has these same odd stability and interface issues from time to time, and I am convinced that it's because the entire world is programming for Ubuntu (desktop/cell phones) or BSD (Mac/servers)based distros and Arch itself is suffering from cracks in its armor that are becoming increasingly hard to deal with.

Ubuntu is simpler, easier, safer. So if that's what you want, that's what you should use. (I tried it myself, and I absolutely _loathed_ it; it was like giving myself a lobotomy.) Do be aware, though, that Ubuntu has some privacy-violation issues, and attempts to foist non-Libre software onto its users more than most other distros. Manjaro is more-complex, more-configurable, and somewhat more prone to problems, so be prepared to do some sleuthing and repair work from time to time. It's basically a middle ground between Ubuntu and Arch, a good distro for folks who are somewhat-computer-savvy but don't want to spend the kind of time and energy required to install and configure Arch. Manjaro is the GNU/Linux distro I use on all of my computers. AUR programs on Manjaro (or Arch) are only a problem if they malfunction. If an AUR program does malfunction, simply uninstall it and use different software instead, problem solved. Arch is a Linux fanatic's distro. It's for people who want to do everything manually. I would recommend Arch only to true computer nerds who are not averse to doing simple things in very complex ways purely for the bragging rights (eg: "By the way, I use Arch."). Maybe someday when I have a lot of free time I'll install Arch on a computer and play around with it. But today is not that day.
@computercatgaming02
@computercatgaming02 3 месяца назад
Avoid the AUR in my opinion, it breaks things way too easily in my experience. If you need to install some unsupported package/program then simply use distrobox to do that as that wont cause dependency problems witht the rest of the OS. Other than that I've had good experiences with Manjaro, it's only when I've used AUR that it has ended up broken.

I disagree with your over-generalised claim that Manjaro's customization is unbeatable. The distro I use, Slackware, gives me more control than any other distro I have tried, including Manjaro. And I have customized the hell out of my installation. The issue with rolling is that the core packages are always up to date, but the stuff you add yourself often does not install. But I do agree with your points on package manager -- just use a tool that downloads the source and builds the package right on your system. No package manager needed. Having said all this, my second choice of distro is ... Manjaro :)

I used Manjaro 40-60 hours a week for 2.5 years working as a software dev and the only issue I had was that one update borked grub. Took me about 30 minutes to figure out how to fix it. The mistake most people make with it is that they enable AUR access and start installing all the things from there. Manjaro doesn’t update as fast as vanilla Arch so installing latest versions of packages from the AUR and their dependencies can break things. Install from the Manjaro repositories, Flatpaks, or app images first. If necessary, install from the AUR with the knowledge that you’ll have to check those dependencies for those packages on every system and package update

@@johnmal5975 if Manjaro is used as intended, it’s super stable. It only becomes unstable when people start installing a bunch of things directly from the AUR without doing their homework. I get why that may not appeal to a lot of people and why some may even feel like it defeats the purpose of using an arch-based distro. But when used as it was intended to be used Manjaro has been very stable for a long time. For folks who want to install directly from the AUR, but don’t want to setup Arch themselves, I recommend EndeavorOS. It’s pretty much an easier setup for vanilla arch and it updates when Arch updates so you don’t run into the dependency problems you have with Manjaro when installing directly from the AUR.

I use Manjaro Xfce and it’s amazing! Those who say it breaks I can understand why u all say that but in my opinion if you are not a tinkerer then Manjaro is the fast and best distro. I think don’t compare it with Arch based distro. It’s not arch but based on arch. I used xubuntu, mx linux etc and they have a lot of pain in setting them up but Manjaro is just out of the box ready to go distro and that too all the packages are latest compared to Ubuntu

Manjaro always ended up having a problem for me, mostly straight after install or soon after. I installed Arch at the start of this year and it has been amazing. The best Linux experience I'd had was Ubuntu up until this, but I think I'm Arch BTW for life now! Using hyprland myself and I have KDE installed for whenever my bf needs to use my computer for a while. If anyone is thinking of trying Arch but wonder if you're not "good enough" with linux, trust me just go for it!! Then use the wiki! :P

I have Manjaro in a VM since 6 years and it never let me down. Many other fancy and famous distro VMs I deleted after experiencing 2 to 3 problems. Be honest Manjaro is that efficient, because it uses the XFCE desktop by default. Xubuntu with XFCE is as efficient :) I use LibreOffice 7.6.4-1 in Manjaro. I use the latest LibreOffice 24.2.3 with their new way of numbering the releases, in the 8 years old Ubuntu 16.04 ESM :) :) Two of the advantages of snaps, it is easier thus faster to distribute the latest version of the apps and they can even be run on an "ancient" distro release.

First of all, I want to say that I'm not a fan boy or anything like that, right? Second, start using Manjaro with Gnome 46 or KDE, and never with Xfce. That's where the magic happens. Using Manjaro has more to do with the feeling it causes than anything else and this is logically rightly intentional. I know all operating systems and what Manjaro does is naturally inexplicable, but it is deeply felt. Everything in it is done with deep feeling, everything was done to work on the basis of emotion and feeling that there is a coherence beyond. The difference that the Greeks established between tekhné and poiesis is explicitly present in Manjaro. Manjaro exceeds the limit of being what it proposes to establish magic or seduction, in other words: satisfaction. After all, what is the point of a terminal like that other than to provide you with a deep and coherent feeling that we are using a correct tool that is extremely friendly to the senses? More than providing user-friendly use, it's creating the feeling that small problems are pleasant to solve when you're in the right place, right? What Manjaro wants is for the feeling not to update but rolling release.

Manjaro is the distro that got me to switch from Windows to Linux years ago as my main OS. It's looks good and runs great as long as you stick with the main repo when installing apps. Eventually I broke Manjaro and had to switch to another more stable distro. Nowadays, I don't care about having the latest and greatest. I prefer having system stability above all. As long as my OS can do whatever I ask of it, I'm satisfied. I'm on MX Linux (KDE version) now which is based on Debian. It might not have the latest packages but this is easily resolved by using flatpaks. For example, I use the flatpak version of Handbrake because the default older version that comes with my distro doesn't include a feature I use. Even though I don't use Manjaro now, I still feel very thankful to it for getting me away from Windows. I also feel it might be a good beginner distro for those new to Linux as it comes with a lot of default useful apps. Most people new to Linux would have no idea what apps are available or what they are even called. Manjaro also uses very reasonable and intuitive default settings out-of-the-box. Once you know your way around and what you want/need, you can try other more custom distros targeted to your needs.

It's Pop! for me in late 2022. That is over Ubuntu, which I found too obscure (unclear) as a newcomer. It is way more stable than Arch. I experienced it myself. You can switch to Manjaro unstable branch that is basically on pair with Arch and it was a wile ride. Even testing branch, that is few days to a week old behind Arch is more stable but still pretty fresh. For newbies or machines used for work, stable branch is a good solution.
@sharkuel
@sharkuel 6 месяцев назад
@@michadybczak4862 I also experienced myself on stable and mine completely broke sereval times whenever I tried to configure pipewire, for example (I work at a recording studio). I used Arch for a year on my studio until eventually I got a new computer and decided to put in CachyOS. Been a steady ride, given that I somewhat punish the processor when recording over 36 audio tracks at the same time. With Manjaro, I could never pull that off, because either the dependencies broke and my PC would have no sound, or something else broke and I didn't know why. And yet, with Arch I never had issues. But the overall sentiment is that Manjaro is quite the problematic distro, and even though some may have positive experiences in it, the majority (me included) says otherwise.
