1:45 Sure, it’s just a number, but every number represents someone who likes your song. It can also make you happy to see and hear that people enjoy listening to your music. For example, it might help them get through the day or make them feel happy. I don’t see it as just a number.

I was part of the MusiCreator Cohort 1, so glad I took this course, helped me a lot. I heard a sentence in another video which said: "Your Music is not your Product anymore, your Music is your Marketing to your Product." I think this is true in this day and age

Awesome video Aurelie! 🙌 As a songwriter / producer who earns around AUD $30k per year in royalties from billions of streams across all platforms, unfortunately I can confirm that it can be difficult to survive from streams alone! Hence why after 15 years in the music industry I have now started a RU-vid channel making videos about songwriting and production. Inspiring stuff 🤘

Oh wow, thank you for your testimony! But in 15 years, and billions of streams I mean... you deserve more! Love that you added RU-vid to your music business now 😃 I'll definitely be checking some of your videos!

Spotify SUCKS, but it is a marketing tool to help get your name and music out to the world. So like you say don't think of Spotify as a income source just view it as a free marketing tool.

It's moved from a marketing tool to what feels like a pyramid scheme coz they'll withhold royalties if a song doesn't cross 1,000 but still make money off you 😂

Yes I would agree among other platforms like sound cloud, but remember , to get on there it’s not free you have to pay distribution service to like Distrokid

Yay Dear PLV thank you for the video. Let me share, you video is brilliantly expaining & I was also thinking about it. I feel like a good number of streams is a proof of quality / ability. If I suddenly release a book now, people are going to trust me more if I walk the talk :D And also it's not a hard thing to do, all it takes is just running ads with a small budget. Though tbh it's probably better to collect email list though ads. ___ Best ways to monetize I think are: 1) Paid community 2) Digital products / teaching (or physical but that's usually harder) 3) Brand deals 4) Mixing for people 5) Epidemic sound / sync / samples

The only times I made money as a musician was through Merch The only time I make money as a producer is by recording others and getting paid for my time. If I didn't love doing it it is almost a futile enterprise

Hi. Do you know about Rick Barker's (former Taylor Swift manager) music monetisation course for indie musicians? If yes, what do you think about?
@HOLLASOUNDS
@HOLLASOUNDS Месяц назад
Spotify is one of the main reasons why music is such as Trap becoming stagnant due to there low pay outs and making music have to fit a very specific sound to get in there play lists. Music has to sound like other music to get into playlists and thats whay so much music just sounds generic and lacking creativity. There is more money to be made from selling products to producers then there is in mainstream music streaming.

Thank you for the video. Royalties are my main income but it is so little compared to how many streams I have as a music producer. In my country (Ukraine) Spotify pays around 700$ for 1 million streams. Averagely I earn around 700 dollars a month from all platforms (I get 30-40% of the song income) but it is not enough at all to progress as a musician and create stuff that I want. That's why I watch your videos to learn how to build my own brand. Keep it up) I really like your content

The Business of Earning Royalties Really Depends on what you set out to do & the connections you've made. Royalties are my 2nd biggest source of income but it wouldn't be so if I didn't have music placements with alot of known Dancehall & Reggae Singers.

More people should just switch away from Spotify. They are by far the largest streaming company, but they pay BY FAR the least per stream. Napster is a legit streaming service these days. And they pay more per stream than Spotify does. Hell, Spotify have no problems throwing millions on podcasters, but Daniel Ek still says that musicians have it easy these days. Also, Spotify don't even offer lossless sound. Fck Spotify.

If an artists is not able to generate 1000 streams a year, he has to blame himself not Spotify. And: what's the point if you're only getting pennies transferred?
@jensenraylight8011
@jensenraylight8011 Месяц назад
Spotify is unlike youtube, even if you create a bangers, you'll still end up with 0 streams because Spotify is lousy at recommending song to everyone, and everyone and their mom already had their comfort playlist. your song most likely will hit an impenetrable brick wall RU-vid on the other hand at least will boost your video 48 hours after the initial release, and you've to prove yourself. you have at least 1% chance to succeed on youtube instead of 0.0001% on spotify but, like always, it also depend on how you promote your song as well, and how you utilize social media
@cloudbloodmusic

Ok how do you get 1000 streams then, genius?
@HOLLASOUNDS

@@jensenraylight8011 Thats why I don't even bother putting My music on streaming services, its a waste of time and work, to basically make no money and probably no plays.
