My experience with Amaar door centers has been great. I will say they have greatly improved their quality. At the door center I use they always go out of their way to help.

When I worked for an Amarr dealer, we never really had much issue, but we were buying doors from them by the truck load. Working for Overhead, we don’t have to get Amarr very often, but when we do, it’s a hassle. Even before we got down with the sickness, Amarr always had longer lead times, and they were harder to deal with, then we’d get something damaged, and it was like pulling teeth. Clopay is another one we don’t have to deal with often, and yeah, it really seems like they drag their feet, but I don’t get damaged product, and while it takes longer than I’d like with them being in my area, they still make things right for us. Wayne Dalton was always my back-up plan until the slowdowns happened. ETA on an 8300 section is 7 months right now. WD is part of OHD, so if we needed something in a hurry, one phone call and we’d have it in a couple of days. And their boxed sections never came in damaged, I always had extra fasteners, it was always a good experience with them. Right now, I have to go through Hormann/Northwest Door if I need something remotely quickly. They’re still decent quality on steel back doors, they’re easy to deal with, they’re local so turn around times are weeks instead of months, and I like the people I deal with at our DC. Every manufacturer has their drawbacks - especially right now. (Don’t get me started on LM, however.) I’m just hoping that things settle down soon and we can get back to business as usual.

The strut for Amarr doors is for the top section only not for the center. You can add a strut or 3 struts if you want to go overkill. You are correct on the touch-up paint, all 16' doors need touch up. 8' and 9' usually don't need any touch-up paint. The black marks are from machining and wipe right off. How you ask, well I never give away my secrets. I learned my secrets from years of installing. Wayne Dalton's cheap door and their funky ex set torsion spring systems and the curve to their horizontal track along with their non- adjustable track mounting brackets are junk. They all have issues but I'll install an Amarr door over a Wayne Dalton any day.

Great video Dave! For me it's been CHI. Even before the beginning of this downward spiral they've been plagued with problems. They have always been willing to help me with my issues. In fact I did a video about this. The truth is these companies are only so good as the people that work within them. Ultimately something's getting lost in quality control. And that's where a lot of this could be handled before we get the product.

I believe you are right about the door center you use. The Amaar I use has a great staff. They have had issues yes , but they will work thru problems and offer solutions.

I spent 10 years making garage doors for amarr in the Lawrence plant. From a no one to a lead. The doors spend 99% of its life face down and the lines were so old and janky that they don’t catch these things. When they make 1,000 a shift, the environment had 80+% turn over rate it was hard to get people to care. The small rubbing and chipping was insanely hard to deal with the way they do things. I have not been with them for over 2 years now but when I left they got a brand new president from a Walmart d/c. My dads still out there and it doesn’t sound like much has changed but they painted walls and stuff :)

We quit using Amaar and CHI doors here in Ontario Canada cause they both had the same issues as you are talking about. We have been selling Haas doors and so far no issues. I totally agree with your comment about being the end of the line guy in the sale of a product it's the worst feeling when you have to tell a customer that the product you installed needs repair/replacement and having to deal with the backlash from it.

You got that right Used to buy from amarr , but you couldnt leave the dock with doors without checking every panel and you better have touchup paint for every color . It wasnt just the paint scratching it was also the dented panels. Then amarr was sold to AsaAbloy and it got worse. No thanks, dont need the headaches of a constantly damaged product.

So what brand of door should a guy buy then? I'm building a new house now and need to get doors on order for it. They will be 9X8 and a 10X8

Really they all have their budget doors and high end doors. Biggest thing just do your home work the hardware is where they get most people because the customer just cares more about the look of the door then the function. A 2” thick door is always my favorite get nylon bearing rollers and torsion springs with the best hinges they recommend and you should be looking good also Pay attention to the bottom seal how its attached if you like it or not. Good luck 👍

I live in the midatlantic. Is there a best brand or model garage door company or model that is not for people that make 500k or more a year? Is a steel the best quality/strength/durability/non rust... Or do some brands and models very greatly? I need 2 smaller/normal garage doors. Opener quality? Clear winner and looser/crap? Thank you.

We totally relate with you on this. We have a few builders that insist with amarr. Nothing shows up numbers matching between track, hardware, and springs. Thankfully it's only a few different models and usually 8 or 16 wides, so we just pile it up and take what is needed. We don't push amarr, but we need to deal with them. The Pinetop models are the worst to match up. Sometimes we don't even get matching numbers per door for sections!

we got Amarr overhead doors and every single window leaks and causes the insulation to absorb water. The tracks are crooked making them hard to open and they are also heavy bc of the water absorbed by the insulation. Our installer said to add silicone to the windows so we did. We had to take out each window and add silicone. That didn't work. Each window still leaks. DO you think we could get the installer to come back and fix the problems? NOPE! won't return our calls and refused to address the problems. What a nightmare. F@#K AMARR DOORS!!!!!!! They're garbage

Wayne dolton and Amaar are the worst doors to install here in Chicago. It’s very rare for companies to deal with those manufacturers. Terrible doors.
