Why I don't care about Ninjago 2023

The thing I like about Crusty, is that he isn’t afraid to speak his mind. While I like Crystalized and think it’s an alright season, I enjoy hearing a different opinion from a Ninjago fan. This shows Ninjago isn’t perfect and that it still has its flaws, and Crusty isn’t afraid to point that out.

s7 also had a fantastic ending. left me interested for the next season, despite how bad the rest of s7 was. s15’s ending was atrocious and offers nothing interesting moving forward.

Honestly, I fell in love with the original Ninjago because it was a serious show with sprinkles of drama and comedy. Jay was more serious but they completely changed him to fit the movie. If the writing was still good and the characters all got arcs and focus, I wouldn't mind if the show kept going, but it's when the writing starts to get stale that it's time to wrap it up before it becomes garbage.

I think one advantage season 7to 8 had was a change in writers, back to the Hagemans. They were generally very good at linking seasons together and, what you indirectly mention, weren't as partial to the status quo as Bragi and his team were. I feel that in an ideal world, the Hagemans would be able to assist the writing team in cleaning up their mess, but I can't see it happening.

one problem i have with the modern characterization of the main ninja is that ALL of them seem to have turned more comedic for some reason, even if it doesnt fit the characters at all. for example: zane was supposed to be the smart, calculated, and serious one of the group. but now, hes always used as some kind of comedic relief, like with the pirate zane stuff and the detective zane and all that. and another example is cole, he was supposed to be the rock of the group, he still cracks jokes but he was always characterized as the mature one, the backbone of the team. but now, he seems more immature, he acts like a kid. actually, all of them act like children now for some reason. even though theyre supposed to be adults by the last seasons. i dont mind the comedy that this show is trying to do, but i dont get why they have to force this personality on the characters that were never shown that way before. with jay, i understand if they make a character like jay a comedic relief, because he has always been the unserious one. the one that cracks jokes when the situation is dire, if they just kept him as the lighthearted one then it wouldnt be a problem, but they HAD to force the jay personality on the ones that wouldnt act like jay at all. its like a complete character derailment, its like the ninja are aging backwards into children. they all seemd way more mature in the older seasons, they werent dumbed down for the child audience (even though i, as a child, enjoyed the semi serious tone the old seasons had). even jay was serious at times when he needed to be, but now hes JUST comedy, nothing else. the peak of their characterization in my opinion was at season 8. they all acted like they were supposed to, their personalities were on point. if they just stuck to the season 8 ninja's writing then the series would be a lot more enjoyable.

I really hope they address the problems of crystalized maybe have Lloyd feel really guilty about how he treated Garmadon that could lead to some really nice and heartwarming scenes with Garmadon and Lloyd it would be a good step for Garmadon because he learns compassion in crysalized next step would be forgiveness I don’t think they should do it in the first episode it should maybe need a few episodes or maybe seasons but Lloyd and Garmadon will change as characters for the better

This is why I prefer hearing from you as opposed to other Ninjago news channels. You’re whole life doesn’t revolve around Ninjago, you just like it and are open to criticizing it without a big apology. And I can’t agreed with you more, Ninjago is my main interest but it has indeed made a fool out of itself which is why when it comes to big thought on past seasons or making little fan sequels I mostly ignore WildBrain era stuff, the writing isn’t as compelling, it’s tried to rehash itself as just comedy which was a really weird transition when it started in season 11 with 8-10 arguably being some of the most serious seasons in the show’s entirety. The characters don’t feel all too feasible anymore and it made me heavily dislike Lloyd with his newfound baggage of edginess/ unwillingness to relax or having fun and Jay with him being more immature and not as funny anymore. Let’s just hope that the new 2023 series is at least gonna be crystallized part 1 level good, or even Rebooted good cause I don’t think I can take another disaster like Crystalized’s finale.

I don't know if I can trust the writers to get out of the hole they dug themselves in.

common crusty W while i absolutely agree that ninjago has gotten kinda really stale and crystalized sucked BALLS, there's always some slither of hope with whatever they decide to do with ninjago next, as bad as the odds are stacked against the brand ive loved ninjago for ages so i can only hope that it finally gets the treatment it deserves, despite having a bad rep for so many years, even before the ninjago movie. airing your voice like this is completely and absolutely valid and i commend you for it, but i just worry that there is a tad bit of a chance that the new ninjago series ends up being really good and many of your worries become unfounded. you don't deserve that :(

Personally, I'm still looking forward to Ninjago 2023. I don't hate Crystalized. Yes, it's not perfect, it's not the best thing ever. But I don't think it was bad enough for me to give up on Ninjago permanently and be pessimistic. (DC already did that to me.) I'm still interested to what the 2023 series will do. I would prefer if they change things, mainly get a new cast, but I wouldn't mind if they stick with Ninjago's roots. (Hence the finale title). If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Lol

In this new show I'd like them to have a consistent villain that is a real threat that lasts for at least 3 seasons, but at the same time have 'breather' episodes in between main arcs to give viewers a break from all the fighting and build on character and relationships more...... kinda like how Avatar season 2 and season 3 did.

Dragons Rising pretended that Crystalized never happened, and none of the poor characterization carried over. It would've been better if the addressed the problems in another season tho.

I enjoyed the old ninjago so much more. In the newer seasons all the ninjas were either cracking jokes 24/7 or being totally depressed and pessimistic. Also in the old series they had breather episodes where it was just fun or there was more story for their personal life. Ask the newer seasons we’re fighting non stop where they fought, lost, fight again and maybe won. Or they just kept struggling. Although i still enjoyed it i felt like the newer seasons just changed the characters completely and just threw out the development in relationships. Another example is how lloyd treated garmadon. Although i do think it was kinda deserved seeing as how he spent many years being ignored lloyd was a character who was serious but also kind hearted. He forgave his mom who abandoned him easily because he is able to understand but in the episode he didn’t even try to understand and was prejudiced. Sorry for the rant but it had to be said.

I just want Nadakhan to return in a better way Looking at the plot of Ninjago, they could've had 'Skybound II' in the middle of Seabound and Crystalized. Like imagine this: Jay, after the events of Seabound, becomes sad, not only because Nya left, but also because his friends are upset about it aswell. He remembers the events of Skybound and decides to seek for the evil Djinn, seeing how there are no options left. He, however, doesn't want to go alone, so he invites Kai, he does hide the events of what happened during Skybound and rather tells Kai that he found the information online. Kai, wanting his sister back, ends up joining the search. Cole overhears them and asks if he could come aswell. In the end, the three of them search for Nadakhan, only to realize that the evil Djinn is nowhere to be found. During the time that the lamp travelled to whatever, he escaped with the help of a stranger. And instead of going after the Ninja immediatly, he goes to an island to build up his crew and Djinjago empire. Like bro stop teasing the lamp just let him return

I feel like ninjago crystallized is a season-long version of day of the departed minus the whole cole turning into a human thing. Bring back old villains from some of the seasons…actually, the overlord was the only villain to not return in day of departed & he returned in crystallized as the “big villain” which completely ruined the final battle yet again. DOTD was already rough enough as is & this just feels like a season long version of it

Now that half of season 1 has been out for a bit, I can now say that episode 1 not only changed the game but literally the field itself.

You know, if "Ninja never Quit" then "the Ninjago fandom never quits" people like you were literally the ones who kept the show alive for so long, and you people don't care about Ninjago anymore all because Crystalized left you disappointed? Like, am i the only one who still cares about Ninjago and have hope for the new show? Am i the only person that didn't feel disappointed about Crystalized? The reason why Crystalized didn't disappoint me is because, well i was the only person who knew what was about to happen, i've gotten used to Ninjago to know what's about to happen, I knew Nya was going to return I knew Nya was going to get her powers back I knew Harumi was going to return at some point I knew Harumi was gonna get redeemed I even knew no one was gonna die in the season Everything i knew was gonna happen unfortunately did happen, and i am not even that surprised, i'm still going to watch the new Ninjago show despite everything that's happened.

The hype train for Ninjago for me has definitely died down a lot. No other season has left me in the current state I am with the show as of now. Although a part of me is interested to see what’s next since Ninjago is very dear to me. I do hope United gets me interested

I sorta got to say, despite what you said "who says that thing will be ruined like a few years later by it's future 4 sequels" or something like that, I think I'm a bit scared of it too, you sorta made a good point there, so this video sort of makes sense even today.

I completely agree with you. personally, I haven't cared for Ninjago since the ending of March Of The Oni. Everything else since then seemed to take the show in a much more childish direction and failed to give me a valid reason for why the series needed to continue post-Oni Trilogy. Although I haven't watched it, based on your coverage, Crystallized sounds like an absolute travesty and has killed any interest that I may have still had in the show after the previous WildBrain seasons. Watching your videos has been quite reassuring, knowing I'm not alone in no longer caring about Ninjago. Even then, I'm sure we can both agree that the OG seasons will always hold a special place in our hearts.

I think one thing that made season 8 so good is that it hardly followed up on season 7s plot like AT ALL. We don’t see how the vermillion are defeated, where Krux and acronix have gone. Kai and nyas parents are gone. Since S7 ended on an L for the ninja like season 8 did, they could’ve made season 8 be a direct sequel to season 7 like hunted was to sons of garmadon. But they didn’t. Since crystallized wrapped things up (whether we like how it did or not) this arc of ninjago is over. Meaning they have full creative freedom to make something completely new. And I’m def here for it. We are now entering our 5th new ninjago “arc” (first being pilot-2, second 3-7, third 8-10 fourth 11-15) And I’m sure many people can attest that wildbrain ninjago is completely different from oni trilogy ninjago, which is completely different from original, more simple ninjago, which is completely different from season 3- 7 ninjago where tons of crazy shit started to happen, ninjas in space. A ninjas a ghost, time travel, tournament, etc. I have faith they can make something good, but we’ll just have to wait and see

Honestly let’s look at the good parts of this season 1 it explains what the motivation of the overload even was 2 it accomplished addressed the fact that the ninjas tend to cause a lot of collateral damage 3 it built on the personality’s of the villains 4 it addresses a plot hook left out during the master of the mountain

Image if they in the future they pulled a Samurai jack were the creator of the show stated that in the 2020 videogame the ending of that game is the canon ending of the series not the last episode that had the ending hated by fans

I feel like Ninjago 2023 should be aback to basics season

Crystalized had great dynamics between characters but it lacks depth. Saying things in surface is not enough for characters like Harumi. When the Overlord said that she has feelings for Lloyd, but didn't explain why she had feelings for him in the first place. I am very much worried for the future of the show.

I get the feeling that there's a reason Crystalized was executed the way it was. Don't get me wrong, I love Crystalized. As stated multiple times, it's my favorite season, but I see why people don't like it

Crusty, you along with other several Ninjago fans have been horrifyingly negative about Ninjago lately, Ninjago is a great show and it did not deserve the hate that it has been receiving recently. Also, I know you made a video about the Overlord not ever actually wanting peace in the first place, but his plan does make sense when you really think about it. In the past, the Overlord tried to take over Ninjago twice and failed, so he probably decided that he was going to wait for the right opportunity to come back. And come back he did, but after witnessing all of the Ninja's battles and crazy stuff that's been happening prior to Crystalized, he must have realized that Ninjago really isn't worth conquering. So he decided to just start all over again, but he needed help. He saw that harumi was a stepping stone towards his goal which is why he brought her back to life, and then he gave her his whole "Peace In The Dark" speech, and the reason that he was turning people into Crystal zombies is because he said it himself: destruction comes from conflict, and you know what causes conflict? People cause conflict, so with everyone crystalized, there will be no one left to cause conflict. No more conflict, no more destruction. There Will Be Peace In The Dark. But even with that in mind, to truly achieve peace that way, he has to destroy the balance, and there's only one way for him to do that. Each of the four original Ninja represents one of the four elements of creation, and Lloyd being the chosen one represents them all, since he is the descendant of the First Spinjitzu Master. With that in mind, the Overlords tried to recruit him to make his job easier, but of course Lloyd refused. So he resorted to plan b: corrupting the Ninja, because he said killing them would only unleash their powers, which in time might find new champions, so by corrupting them, he would obtain those powers. And the powers of Creation is the only way to truly ensure that the balance is destroyed. With the Overlord's return in Season 15: Crystalized, it is time to finally complete his plan and ensure that they're truly is peace in the dark. But while the Overlord worked hard on this plan over the years, he didn't account for one thing: he was in a body that could be killed. In the past, he went from possessing Garmadon in Season 2: Legacy of the Green Ninja, to inhabiting an artificial body in Season 3: Rebooted. In the recent Ninjago season, he wasn't possessing or inhabiting anything or anyone. He had fully manifested into a physical body of his own, which means that he could actually be killed this time. So I guess in the end, it didn't really matter how they stopped him this time, just that he needed to be put down once and for all. I for one really enjoyed Crystalized, and I love the Overlord as an antagonist, just for the fact that he's the one who sets everything in motion from the very beginning. The reveal that he was the one who had the Great Devourer corrupt Garmadon to prepare a vessel for him blew my mind. Looking back, Ninjago has actually been teasing this overarching villain since the pilot. Longer than the Oni, or even the Devourer itself. When you really think about Crystalized, it's actually a much more interesting season than you thought it would turn out to be.

Honestly, this is a really great vid Crusty. I completely agree that one of Ninjago's biggest problems going forwards (heck one of its problems it's always had) is that Ninjago is a wildly inconsistent series. Sure 2023 might be great, but then the next season after could be garbage and undermine it. With Crystalized especially, the writers sort of proved that they just don't care about telling deeper or more complex stories. I think they care plenty about telling a fun, goofy, silly show for kids, but as far as anything with meaningful takeaways, character growth, or themes, I just genuinely don't think they care in the slightest. So overall, I just don't have high hopes for anything going forwards because if they don't care, why should we?

I think the only thing that bring me back would be a full blown reboot/new series akin to what tmnt did with it’s multiple series. A back to the drawing board series that can re imagine the story we knew, add new ideas or even, gasp, have a planned out plot from the very beginning! But I guess only time will tell.
