PLEASE READ
Feel free to leave opinions, comments, experiences etc but please don't start a comment war.
This video basically goes over what I do and don't like about different opener brands but particularly for chamberlain/liftmaster. If you don't feel like watching an hour worth of content I'll sum up some of it below.
DESIGN
The new opener designs still haven't grown on me. I think they should've kept the red 8550 cases instead of going to new cases with even more plastic. Additionally, the high-end chamberlain and liftmaster machines now have more plastic on them than the entry level models do.
PARTS
Chamberlain has now started discontinuing logic boards and other parts that they deem to be "obsolete" even though there are still hundreds if not thousands of those older openers still out there running perfectly fine. Those older openers are far more reliable than the new openers are but they just want to make more money and sell you a new opener.
COST SAVINGS
Lately they have been cheaping out on every possible part of their openers, such as no longer powdercoating the chassis, bolts, belt clips, etc, using cheaper motors, slightly changing accessories to save cost just to get more profit.
ACCESSORIES
I do think they do well with their wall buttons and remotes, I wish genie and Linear had a learn button and motion sensor on their wall buttons. Chamberlain has however been making their accessories cheaper lately. I do like their new safety sensors and that the green light flashes when obstructed, however they're pretty late to that party because the genie sensors always flashed and the Linears always had a power light on the receiving eye so you know the sensor has power.
CAMERAS
I think the fact that they want to put cameras in all their high end openers is ridiculous. I think the camera is nice if you're using the amazon key feature but other then that I don't particularly see the point, because for one you can only point the camera towards the door or at the floor which makes it kind of pointless if you wanted to point it towards a back entrance to the garage or something like that. Chances are that people will also have their own security systems that they'll use instead of myq and at that point the camera is just wasted money. It would be nice to see them come out with higher end models without cameras.
MYQ
I do think chamberlain does well with myq and their smart control, however they recently kicked out all 3rd party apps from myq while genie still has the capability to integrate with all the smart home partners.
MOTORS
The openers I hate the most are the DC chamberlain/liftmasters. Over the past few years the DC motors got much louder, some of them being the same noise level as an AC chain drive. The Genie and Linear DC motors are significantly quieter than the Chamberlain DC motors are, and their DC motors are also louder than their MVIS openers are. I do however think their standard AC openers have gotten quieter over the past few years.
MOTORS
All the chamberlains use the same 12V DC motor with the only exception being the 98032. Linears all have 24V DC motors, retail Genies have 18V DC moros, and Pro-Line genies have 24V dc openers and some of the genies even have 140V DC Motors, which are all far more powerful than the weak 12V motors found in chamberlains. If you have a heavy door, DO NOT get a DC Chamberlain!
LIGHTING
One of the things I hate about the 87504 is that they downgraded the lighting from 3000 lumens on the WLED down to 2000 lumens, and the 84505R's lights don't do a very good job at dispersing the light. If you want an opener with bright lights, get a linear LDCO863B
MECHANICAL DESIGN
While the Chamberlain AC motors are built well I think the linears are build better because they put gear cases in all their openers and they still use mechanical limits which are more reliable than the electronic limits on Chamberlains
INTERCHANGEABILITY
I like how the Genies and Linears are interchangeable so you don't have to stock as many different opener models and you can also pick if you want something quieter or something more durable.
RAILS
I do think the Chamberlain square rails are made better than the Genie square rails are and I wish the Linear T-Rails would use metal trolleys.
WHAT OPENERS DO I RECOMMEND
If you really want a DC Chamberlain:
- B2211T
-C2212T
-CMXEOCG982
If you want something quiet
-DC Linear
-DC Genie
-LiftMaster 85870
-Chamberlain B2405
Something cheap and quiet
-Genie 2028
Basic Opener
-Linear LDO50
-Chamberlain D2101
-Genie 1035 (Quietest Cheap Opener)
Heavy Duty
-LiftMaster 85870
-Genie Screw Drive
-Genie 3024
-Linear LCO75

Very well explained video. If im being honest I feel like I can dial in limits on an old Chamberlain with mechanical limits easier than a new one cause new ones never seem to stop where you set them, so I always feel I need to set them several times to get them where I want them.

I've had several times I've needed to program the limits twice on an AC chamberlain because it stops 3 inches lower than I set it

@@TBHD724that being said I do still like chamberlain’s AC motors, my aunts new C2102 is quieter than her older 8355, I just wish they kept mechanical limits. However if I were to install an opener for someone that wants a DC opener, id definitely go Genie.

Not sure if this is happening in the states as well, I’m only 23 minutes in but did chamberlain stop giving keypads with their openers down there too? Just installed a new 3/4 hp belt drive for my neighbor and had to supply a keypad

I might’ve gotten lucky last week I installed a B4505TC for a customer, I thought it was fairly quiet compared to their Ryobi that quit, maybe I’m a bit biased, I’ve got a video of it on my channel

Open I hate that is involved to chamberlains chamberlains is the liftmaster 3130m Because a lot of people have problems with their garage door just going down slowly without the opener running It opens back up automatically and then it goes back down again And does the same again

I like that Chamberlain in the blue case. I still like the new AC motor Chamberlain units. I'm not big on the new DC motor openers, they do sound like a vacuum cleaner i think my old Chamberlain 248730 1/2 HP is quieter than the new DC openers.

I think the only new DC Chamberlain I've heard that actually sounds good is the main C2212 I Installed at my aunt's house. The far C2212 is starting to get pretty loud vaccum noise, though

If you were to get a good garage door opener, then you would get a older liftmaster. And the only thing that nice about the newer liftmasters is the t-rail. I mean y'know i had a Liftmaster 1345 for 10 years even though it could of lasted longer if we actually took better care of it. My chain on it was loose, and the motor and door was squealing so yeah. And my chamberlain i don't like it because of the new features and the square rail and trolley. My last trolley just got f*cked up and now my new one is bending again so that's how you know it has cheaper parts. I don't have experiences on genie and linear but i hear they are doing good. So the opener i recommend right now is the LiftMaster 81650, 83650, and the 81600 or whatever the hell they added

Purchasing an older LiftMaster garage door opener might seem like an economical decision, but it can lead to several significant drawbacks that outweigh the initial savings. These older models often come with outdated security features, such as fixed codes, which are susceptible to hacking and can compromise the safety of your home. They also lack modern technological advancements, like smart home integration, which allows for remote control and monitoring via smartphones. Maintenance and repair issues are more common with older openers due to worn-out components and the difficulty in finding replacement parts. Additionally, older models are generally less energy-efficient, resulting in higher electricity bills over time. Ultimately, while an older LiftMaster garage door opener may appear to save money upfront, the potential for increased costs and security risks make it a less desirable option.

@carefulcutslawnservicellc2649 Месяц назад
@@danielsMotor Yeah well i would get one with security plus. Because it might be older but it will still work over time. And also The older ones are extremely reliable and will save you money preventing to buy another one.
@danielsMotor
@danielsMotor Месяц назад
@@carefulcutslawnservicellc2649While it's true that older LiftMaster garage door openers with Security+ can still offer robust security and reliability, several factors still make newer models a more advantageous choice. Older models, even with Security+, may not support modern features such as smart home integration and remote operation via smartphones, which greatly enhance convenience and functionality. Additionally, as these devices age, they become more prone to wear and tear, which can lead to increased maintenance costs and difficulties in finding replacement parts. Furthermore, newer models are designed to be more energy-efficient, potentially saving on electricity bills over time. While an older opener might save you money initially, the benefits of enhanced security, modern technology, lower maintenance, and energy efficiency make newer models a more prudent long-term investment.
@carefulcutslawnservicellc2649
@carefulcutslawnservicellc2649 Месяц назад
@@danielsMotor Well also if you want something that is affordable, long lasting, basic, and original garage door openers without special features then you can go with the LiftMaster with Security+. Yeah you will have to do some maintenance but still it will be more durable and much more easier to use than the new openers.
@danielsMotor
@danielsMotor Месяц назад
@@carefulcutslawnservicellc2649 I understand your point, and there are certainly merits to choosing an older LiftMaster garage door opener with Security+ if you're looking for an affordable, long-lasting, and straightforward solution. These models can indeed be durable and easier to use for those who prefer simplicity without extra features. However, it’s important to weigh these benefits against the potential downsides, such as the need for more frequent maintenance and the lack of modern conveniences. Newer models may require a higher initial investment, but they offer advanced security, energy efficiency, and smart technology that can enhance your overall experience and potentially save you money and time in the long run. Ultimately, the best choice depends on your specific needs and priorities.

You’ll never change my opinion. I don’t care what you have to say. Genie , OHD, and Linear are all garbage.
@TBHD724
@TBHD724 Месяц назад
Then how come genies and Linears are quieter and I've had less issues with them then I have with newer chamberlains. I've had my linear in my garage for a year and a half and it's worked flawlessly and its quieter than my old 8550 ever was, meanwhile an 87504 I got new in the box is noisy and myq flat out doesn't work on it, always thinks the door is open and the camera doesn't update/i can't view the feed. Linear AC openers have more reliable mechanical limits while liftmasters have electronic limits that get lost. And genie's 140V motors will pick up doors that the liftmaster's wimpy 12v motors would struggle with. Neither brand puts cameras in their openers to make them more expensive. I'd have a hard time believing you've ever touched a modern genie or linear operator to actually compare with a liftmaster.
@danielsMotor
@danielsMotor Месяц назад
I understand your strong opinion, but I think it's worth considering a few points about Genie garage door openers. Genie offers a variety of models that are known for their reliability and ease of installation. They often come with advanced safety features, such as Safe-T-Beam, which ensures the door reverses if an object is detected in its path. Additionally, Genie openers typically have quieter operations due to their use of DC motors and belt drives, which can be a significant advantage in homes with attached garages. Lastly, Genie often provides excellent customer service and support, making maintenance and troubleshooting easier for users.
