When I was launching my campaign for governor, I didn’t want a typical political launch video. I’m not a politician. So I ended up doing this, from the heart. I hope you like it.
I've followed your journalist and humanitarian efforts for many years. Kudos for producing such excellent work and postive change. I applaud you for making this play in our political system. Elected you would join a handful of politicians who are genuinely there to serve. BEIR BUA! (translates roughly from Irish as 'May the Force be with you!')
It's a lovely video - brought tears to my eyes to have someone who so desparately wants to fix things in this broken country, Wish there were more like you Nick.
Inspirational. Good luck sir. And stay positive and true to your principles in the face of the naysayers and cynics who, sadly, want people like you to fail.
I'm a Canadian who has been following you for years and have always looked forward to your columns. You are a special person and we all need more of those in the political arena. Question - is it legal for me to contribute to your campaign and how do I do so?
You go Nick! I'm rooting for you! Let's see what's possible when an intelligent, compassionate, problem-solver (not out for himself) takes the helm. Good Luck!
I had my doubts about Mr. Kristof. This clenched it for me. His feel good, empty, rhetoric tells me he has what it takes to be a Democrat politician at a high level. No details? Check. Obsession with background? Check. Empty platitudes? Check. Generic statement about working class people? Check. No actual policies that will help? Check. Yeah- he's ready for the big leagues.
Herein we have the myopic vision of a media personality: Nick selects outcomes he doesn't like and attributes them to bad "systemic" causes and nefarious shortcomings of politicians and selects outcomes he likes and attributes them to good "systemic" causes and compassionate, humanistic actions by politicians, but in addition to his mechanistic, arbitrarily cherry-picked perspective, Nick does not sufficiently realize that the same "systemic" and agency causes (that he either opposes or supports) can and do produce both the favorable and unfavorable outcomes that he notes.
I may end up voting for you. I like what you are saying, but, most of what you are talking about has to do with federal, not state laws, and problems that face the entire country, not just Oregon.
Nick Johnson channel had a video tour Portland tonight and he mentioned a political divide which could be interesting in this race. I believe it was the "L" word.
Too “sales-y” for you, not your style obviously. and why just Nick now? Your name is good. People already trust Nicholas Kristof. Why have to earn it again?
I agree. He has an authentic persona on his own. Here it’s just slightly too slick. Nick, listen a bit less to the consultants and simply be yourself in these ads, please. No hand gestures, for example, unless they feel right to you-otherwise it’s transparently artificial. Not a bad ad at all. I just want it to be great.
Why don’t you run for county council & learn how to serve constituents & manage a budget first before running for statewide office? Leadership is lot more than just spinning a convincing tale- which admittedly you’re very good at.
Oh a big booo to you at Halloween and on that comment. Why didn’t republicans pick a guy like that for president in 2016? ha! why do you get to write the definition of leadership, and clearly it is easier to describe what it is not than what it is 🤝
Oregon doesn’t need a better number cruncher, but someone at the helm who’s traveled and seen a thing or two in the world far beyond the Oregon hills and forests, and can thus offer totally new directions and solutions for all sorts of problems, instead of the century old local politicking in the woods. Of all these United States, Oregon has the dubious reputation as 1 of the least friendly to foreigners. Seems nothing but a closed mentality. Someone has to take an axe and smash it. Nicholas can be the one for the job.
