Such a pretty face, lovely disposition and she rides like the wind. This is why Katie makes my day and also why I never miss a video. Good stuff young lady!
I was just thinking - it's easy being a strong rider in your 20's and then you drop the bombshell that Serena is 40 😬 That's my excuses gone Another great video Katie ♥️
Spring, friends, a good cuppa, sheepies, horsies and Tellytubbies landscape ... doesn't get any better than that! That were another brilliant video! Finally starting to feel like spring here in Quebec so I'm planning my first 2021 outdoor ride for tomorrow ... can't wait!
You can see puffins at St Kilda - Outer Hebrides, Herm - the Channel Islands, Staffa - Inner Hebrides, Fair Isle - Shetland, Farne Islands - Northumberland, Skomer - Wales, Bempton Cliffs RSPB - Yorkshire and Westray and Papa Westray, Orkney, Scotland to name a few for you. All the best with the puffin ride!
Often and common is simply a poorly aligned disc rotor within the calliper which will cause screeching and intermittent braking. Uneven alignment causes uneven piston displacement and uneven pressure placed upon the braking surface of the disc. To align a disc rotor within your calliper more accurately remove your wheel then loosen off both calliper retaining bolts - Place a doubled over old business card between the brake pads and apply pressure to the pads by pumping your brake levers vigourously - WATCH the brake pads as they clamp onto the business card as any sticking pistons will be seen as uneven movement of the pads. I remove the pads and clean my rotors and calliper piston areas with a clean rag - cotton buds and pipe cleaners soaked in Metho/White Spirits doing this is peace of mind that areas are clean and uncontaminated. Replace the pads and again repeat the process with the card and this time hold pressure on the brake lever and tighten both calliper retaining bolts. Refit the wheel and test the braking function - Hope this works for you - Best wishes and Happy Pedalling 🙏
Happy belated bday Serena! Great video, love all the smiling! Totally agree on catching up with friends soon on missed rides. As for squeaking brakes- swap out the pads, or use loctite on the brake rotor screws.
You can see Puffins on Rathlin Island off the North Coast of Northern Ireland. You can ride to Ballycastle (where you’ve already been), then get the ferry to Rathlin, but you probably need a gravel bike to ride to the bird sanctuary, I did it on a road bike on 23s and it was super sketchy
Come to Pembrokeshire and take a boat over to Skomer Island for puffins. Pembrokeshire is beautiful and well worth a visit. You’ll have to visit before July when the puffins leave again.
Great video Katie. Another shout for the Northumberland coast for puffins! Incorporate Holy Island and get on the Farne Islands for puffins - beautiful up there.
@@Biking360 my family are all from Northumberland originally so I’m up there often as my parents moved back there about 10 years ago (I’m still a bit further south on the Yorkshire Coast). Planning a big ride from Durham up to Holy Island with my brother and dad in the summer in fact.
@@cyclingcheckpoints Sounds like an awesome ride. Good luck, I come from Skipton so have done a lot of riding in Yorkshire, particularly in The Dales, but not so much on the coast. whereabouts on the coast are you? JP
@@Biking360 Ahh right, not too far away at all. I live near Scarborough. So many amazing routes around here you should get yourself this way. North York Moors to the north, The Wolds to the south and a load of rural country roads and coastal routes elsewhere - never spoilt for choice! But then Yorkshire as a whole is very much like that isn’t it? I’ve done a bit in the Dales but still a hell of a lot I want to do in the future too.
For Puffins, your best bet is either Puffin Island, as already suggested, or South Stck on Anglesey, or you could head to St Bee's Head near Whitehaven in Cumbria, or head over to Bempton Cliffs in East Yorkshire. Good luck seeing them!
First time watching your videos. Great to see you out again in the UK. I’m in Australia. Enjoyed the footage and your conversation throughout. Look forward to seeing more. 👍
Enjoying the videos Katie, you inspired me to get back on the road bike after it's years hibernation. Loads of Puffins here in Scotland, Treshnish Islands off of Mull and the isle of May up in east neuk of Fife but you'd both have to put the bikes in the boat :-) Happy birthday Serena !
Skomer Island in Wales is great for puffins. You will need a boat though! Or the Farne Islands in Northumberland. Boat needed once again! Puffins are ace!
Ah the descent from Stanedge to Delph where the headwind means you end up pedalling most of the way down Buckstones is 35min climb for me from home so it's my out and back "just got an hour loop" it is always a headwind coming up from the opposite direction from Scapegoat Hill end Great to see my back yard on your vlog
To stop the squeak, first remove the brake pads, next get some 200 grit sand paper, place the sand paper on a flat surface then gently move the pads cross the sand paper until the glaze is removed....
Love it! BTW, get some disc brake cleaner. Spray on a clean rag and wipe the rotors to get the contamination off. The pads need rubbing with fine sand paper, then dousing with disc brake cleaner and leave to soak. Then give a wipe. Should be all good.
Just found your channel and its brill! Love hearing a proper northern accent! Probably a bit too late, but I had similar brake squeal. Long story short, chances are pads and discs are glazed over from braking hard on those descents. Hard core clean of both disc and pads with disc brake cleaner, rough up both surfaces with wet n dry paper, then bed your brakes in properly.
I laughed seeing the Land Rover stopped in the middle of the road. But unlike a British car breaking down on Top Gear it was ok. You are both strong riders !
Your chat about climbing, and then THAT view over to Stanage took me right back - and then chating about tea - I just had to check out google street view to see if my favourite cafe from my climbing days in that area of the world is still there. It is, and so I can now "taste" the pint of tea from Grindleford cafe. As you say its the little things - so thanks for the reminder of those little things (not that a pint mug of tea is very little)
Found in extensive cliff top colonies around the coasts of Scotland from Galloway to Wick, on the islands and along the eastern cliffs from North Berwick to Berwick-on-Tweed. Best views definitely by boat.
Take pads out, pair of pliers to hold them and wave the pad bit over a gas hob for 30 seconds each side, then lightly give it a sand. Wipe rotors with a isopropyl alcohol, reinstall and you should be good.
I'm guessing your brake pads are glazed (I didn't notice if you got your brakes wet, because that will do it, as you are sure to know). Take the pads out and sand off the glazing with some medium-fine grit sandpaper. Always sweet to see the ladies out having a good time together!
Little tip I saw somewhere, remove the pads, put a dab of fairy liquid on one face then rub the two pads together for a minute or so. Wash pads with fairly warm water, then dry out (I've used a hair dryer). Also degrease the rotors with a proper cleaner too (Screwfix do one). This should sort it...😊x
Have you tried brake cleaner spray? Oils & grime from the road tend to cause brakes to be noisy. Also bad brake pad position/angle can cause resonance. Research RU-vid about this. There's a rubber band spacing technique to help get the angle right.
What gloves were you both wearing? They didn't look too thick but obviously kept hands warm. I find winter gloves too thick and the chic is always too long and Amos my wrist. Hooked on your videos by the way! Great job. 👍
Great video. Nice to watch you cycling in my local area. Have you ever cycled the Huddersfield Starwheelers hill climb ( HD9 7HX) and the Holme valley wheelers hill climb ( HD9 2QR). You could do them both on the same ride. I am sure you would enjoy !!!!
Fancy outing your mate as 40yrs old ;) I think north wales has puffins. As for disc howl, you can try degreasing and roughing up the disc with some aggresive wet + dry paper, small amount of copperslip grease on the back of the brake pads or changing the pads for a different compound. Keep us updated.
Give the pads a light sand on some fine sand paper, might have glazed over from a descent (especially when wet), then grab some scotch bright and clean the discs up but ONLY rub the discs vertically, not in direction of rotation. Clean up with some isopropyl.
Squeaky disc rotors “Nail Polisher Remover”on a cloth works a treat wear rubber gloves if you have them . Might need to clean the disc brake pads with the nail polish remover also. Start with the rotors first and see how you get on. Road Disc brakes I find don’t like the wet and road dirt.
I immediately knew what “Polka Dot” meant when Serina said that. I think every cyclist would like to have the reputation of “smashing” the hills. I also like how Serina says, “Yeeeah!” : )
On racing cars you have very hard(heat resistant) brake pads and they can make a lot of friction sounds, guess that it is the same thing with disc brakes bikes. As you are not riding in hot climate and up/down alps so replace to softer brake pads.
I usually head out from Prestwich past Chorley or loop round into Cheshire via Warburton but your videos are making me want to try heading East for a change.
I used to have this problem a lot my bike used to squeak a lot because of my brakes not being set properly so all I did was loosen them up and told them forward this way the forward part of the break touches the rim first I also used to do that with my rear brakes I hope this is helpful always remember tow your brake pads forward I wish I was there so I show you how it's that is done
Amazing landscape- you lot are v. lucky! Horses, sheep and great roads for climbs... and lovely cafes ( every ride should include cake 😀). My disc brakes used to scream like banshees until I wiped down disc and pads with isopropyl !
Try getting some disc brake cleaner and clean the rotors in case there’s some crap on them. My Shimano ones hardly ever made a noise; my SRAM ones (on 2 bikes) always make a noise
I. M jealous we don't have such nice hills in the Netherlands, all about flat country and very very windy every day.. Nice view from the hills keep up the good work girls💪😀🌹🌹
Nice Video !!! Awesome to see the Video when you guys were riding .... What type of camera ? How did you mount it On the bike of on your helmet? ... Thanks for sharing !!
😂, we’ve all got the mask lines on our noses-if we’re active and get out of the house, that is! Happy Birthday 🎂 to Serena, and know that 40 is just a number. My mum is 97, lives alone, drives, and until the lockdown did Tai Chi five days a week, sometimes two hours a day. Off to my ride. Have a great rest of your day😎👍
Those horses needed a wee bit of grass Katie, I’d have fed them. Your friend had a lovely kit on great colour blue and cool gloves. My front disc brake squeakers like hers, I can’t work out why. She rides very high your friend, her legs are almost straight, I’d have said she was too high for her leg length, obviously it doesn’t cause her knee probs, why does she ride this high? Great vid. Xxx
Hi Katie, Serena was wearing Loffi gloves, maybe put a link on your channel to support them, great product and good value for money too. I was an original kickstart supporter for this product, the best fitting gloves I’ve ever had, so why not give them some help?
I do believe King Koffee has finally conquered the UK as the hot beverage of choice, at least among cyclists. Try it with a shot of Bushmills ( at the end of the ride of course! ).
Katie can you tell about your neckwarmer? And about cycling neckwarmers basically. Which one would you recommend, or there are no specific ones? Thank you.
Certainly going to be strong riding round there, looks lovely proper nice, horses "ah Kendal mint cake lady" . Serena's brake squeak not sure what she's tried or the brand, when it happens to me, I clean pads and disc in isopropyl alcohol give pads a light buff with sandpaper on flat surface and buff up the surface of the disc with green saucepan scouring pad. That might help.
Maybe if you took mountain bikes you could ride along Beeston cliffs in East yorkshire. Its been decades since I was there though so much may have changed.
"I know you, you fed me farkin horses!" ........ sheet im outta here! hahahahaha. Re: brakes.... make sure ya bed in the pads when new, 15 abrupt stops and a few mins dragging them a bit.Check what compound your pads are, organic are quietest but dont last, semi-metalic is a good middle ground, but if you want quiiiet, go organic. Then make sure the disk is clean with proper stuff, not washing up liquid! :) Should help.
Hi Katie. Do you lock somehow your bike while visiting shops or going away on solo rides? Im planning some longer trips this year but Im afraid my bike wont be waiting for me while I visit shops and other places :/
