100% spot on. This also works for just about any other creative job. Non creatives always have to justify their own jobs by making random notes.

LOL. what a video. Ive learned from more experienced people than myself a great way to communicate. If someone wants to do something, like say "pan" tilt up, when its already too much its better to respond with a question. "can we pan up" "Yes of course we can, but what are you seeing so I know what youre going for" . Put the ball back in their court so if they dont have a good or confident answer you can artfully redirect them back to where you had it as the best option. Everyone thinks they know something until they have to explain it. You have to pick your battles of course. If you have a big contrast ratio and they want some fill then sure no problem. IF they want it flat you can take the time to explain why its better to match the ratio of the other interviews or go into the idea of someones face looking slimmer with a contrast ratio. "in my professional opinion she will look younger and be happy about it" type of vibe. Yes we want to please our clients but our clients dont know shit sometimes. So pushing back can make them happier in the long run if you can carefuly communicate as to why youre hired to do the job. Sometimes saying yes to everything and never pushing back can be a bad thing.

Sequel will be editing related "Can you change the song?" "Can you also export for 17x9 ,9x16, 4x3 and 4x5?" "Can you make it more exciting?" "Can you make the color grade cooler but darker and brighter?"

I constantly deal with low budget clients that are exactly like this except they don't know any terminology so I get stuff like "using a movie camera" and "can you spotlight more" and "hollywood" (I don't even understand that one to be honest). So, I feel this, deep down into my core.

This is why I think directors should understand the camera, the lighting department, the sound department and the actors before anyone directs anything. Not everyone can be a director.

Learn to say no. Doesn't matter how entitled the customers think they are. explain to them how much worse or better whatever it is you're talking about would be. But at the end, I have similar customers and the problem with those is mostly that no one ever put them in their place so it's so hard for one to clean up the mental mess others caused by their "niceness" over the years. But given, there are some people who are just simply a nightmare. They usually identify themselves while introducing themselves as "perfectionists". Those are the most time wasting, never sticking to the script ppl who just make it harder for everyone and explode the budged since they occupy a lot of time with nonsensical changes.
