Why I hate my RX 6600 XT | Biased Review (OUTDATED!)

*It was good that you made this update in the comment section* considering that a lot of people looking to purchase an AMD GPU will see this video. AMD's bad reputation is why Nvidia can continue to charge such a high premium. I was holding out for a price drop on the RTX 3060, which is sitting at $380 on Amazon. After seeing this video I just assumed AMD was still having a lot of issues. The RX 6600 dropped down to $240 recently and I just had to convince myself that it wouldn't be "that bad". I was pleasantly surprised when the GPU ran smoothly and performed well (moving up from a 1660ti). Once I stumbled upon SAM and enabled it in the bios the performance bump was good enough on a 144hz monitor at 1080p.

Good decision - its a good Card. And the Drivers are also very good... in fact equal to nVidias in stability. Ive no clue what cuda is trying to tell here cuz he made several BIG mistakes with his Gaming Rig - ive made a post here for that.

@@Pirate85getready I thought nk he needs to clean the drivers. I recently upgraded from an RX 470 to a RX 6600 and had the same issues and I solved it by using DDU driver remover to completely remove the old gpu drivers so the RX 6600 would play nice.

Compared to an rtx 3070 what are your thoughts?

@@stellerate 6800 Vs. 3070? Theyre on par performancewise. But the advantage of the AMD is clearly that it have more vRam - its even sometimes very close on my 3080s 10Gb tbh... more is better in this case and DLSS wont always help (and the 3070 have enough Power to fire an 1440p Display without using it).

@@varitytopic4440 im on both sides it could be a driver issue but he paired the gpu with an apu which is a the ryzen 7 5700g that has integrated graphic which could interfere with the card but its most likely a drivers issue

he is running 3.0 bus with a 4.0 card , a older 3.0 2060 would run about 8% better, and if don't turn your graphics up your screwing you cache, which the Ryzen Gs don't have much of anyway, but 3060 is going to run worse than a 2060 with that CPU/board as well , until he up grades his board and CPU the RTX 2080 super is his best way to go, he just doesn't the right bus support to take advantage of the newer cards fully, he needs at least a B550 and a Ryzen 5 3600 to use current gen cards well

@@Tenchi707 It's not an upgrade if it can't actually function properly, right? He's running a newer GPU that wants PCIE 4 on a CPU that only gives PCIE 3. So it's performance is getting strangled.

Same !! I have a 5600G and 6600XT, it performs well at 1080p high/ultra and 1440p mixed but I’ll need to upgrade my cpu to get rid of the PCIe 3rd gen bottleneck or just hold out till next summer to move up to AM5.

Windows 11? EWW. I'm sticking with windows 10 but my system is equivalent to yours. I'm running 4 sticks 8GB ram [for the dual rank uplift] and overclocked it to 3733. I can push the power slider all the way and boost clock to 2550 and I get 2525. On the other hand I can undervolt to 925mv and leave everything stock and get everything I need for my 2160P 144hz monitor. If you just want a boost in benchmark scores and possibly solve your stuttering problems at the same time, set the minimum clock speed around 1000mhz. I never noticed any stutter but there must have been something because raising minimum clock did show in the minimum frames in the benchmark. Overclocking is about dead. It's fly by wire now. You tell it what you want then the card decides if it will give it to you or not, or how much of what you wanted it will give you.

22h2 is full of buGs. I have a couple of stations at work (Ryzen 7) with 16 ram and nvme and since the update they run like shit. I get all kinds of stuttering, hangs, responsiveness issues. A very bad build. Not to mention, upon installing, it requires you an online account. Had to search some dumbass solution to bypass this. It's insane.

Most cards cannot even saturate 16x pcie 3.0, the performance difference 3.0 and 4.0 is negligible

@@arcticowl1091 I downgraded a pc from a 5700g back to a 5600x and got a 50+ frame boost in modern cod titles, the 5000 apu series drops performance for gpus no matter what.

@@arcticowl1091 You should dig a bit deeper. This situation is not the same to what you are talking about with 3 vs 4. The problem is the card is 8x Gen 4.0. 8x Gen4 runs basically the same bandwidth as 16x Gen 3. The problem comes when you put this budget minded 6600/6600xt in a budget minded board like say a B450/X470 that ONLY supports Gen3. You now reduced your bandwidth basically in half. I know this as I spent most of the day today testing. I bought 3x PowerColor Red Devil 6600XT for $140,$140,$150 and have been comparing back in forth. Only 1 of those cards landed in a X570 board with Gen 4 support. The other two are in B450 boards. In a Gen4 board the 6600XT usually will easily beat out a 1080ti. Drop it to Gen3 and performance drops a good bit now dropping between a 1080 / 1080ti in some games. I bought them anyway for the 2 B450 systems as they will still be overall faster and hopefully longer driver support than the two 1080's they will replace.

He clearly doesn’t fully understand pc’s and what he is doing so instead of dogging AMD for his lack of computer skills he needs to take it to someone who can properly help him. I build computers for a living (I have a small shop) and everything about this video is wrong.

It’s stronger and you’ll only be within the 5% margin of bottlenecks for both in games, MOST of the time, just turn to 1440 and never any issues. basically it’s the strongest combo you could put together with that cpu

Going from a 2060 to a 6600 XT definitely isn't a sidegrade. For example, you'll be lucky to get 60 fps at 1440p and it still dips into the 50s quite often on RDR2 with a 2060. With a 6600 XT, I'm able to play at 1440p ultrawide and it'll be well above 60 fps.

@@KevDawg1992 It's faster, but is the difference between a 2060 and a 6600XT enough for you to want to buy a new GPU? Personally, I moved from a 1060 to a 3080 when the 1060 completely stopped meeting my needs. It was enough of an upgrade that they're not even comparable.

@@King_Kong_Song that doesn't prove it's a sidegrade which is exactly what you said it was. According to TechPowerUp, the 6600 XT is relatively 25% better than the 2060. The definition of upgrade is literally raise something to a higher standard, in particular improve (equipment or machinery) by adding or replacing components. Sidegrade is a form of "upgrade" involving a switch to an equivalent product by another manufacturer or for a different operating system. If it's faster, it isn't equivalent. Words have meaning for a reason.

@@King_Kong_Song except that it does by the very definition of upgrade. It's already been established that the 6600 XT is better. If you're taking a part out and it's getting replaced by a part that's better, it's still an upgrade.

i'd still buy an amd gpu. Just be sure to uninstall ALL nvidia drivers before plugging it in. You can always refund it if you don't find it good. Also i recommend you to use Driver only option while installing drivers if you want to prevent any problem at all. If you find no problems with driver only, and want more features, consider making a restore point and then upgrade to full install to have display options and relive (screen recorder) option. Also i'd suggest to reset pc and put windows 11 on it. I had problems on windows 10 and when i reset my pc and put windows 11 every problem went away

I can keep setting Adrenalin UI however i want. It all resets after a restart, no matter what i do. Just to set a fan curve, i had to go with minimal driver install and set the fan curve via MSI afterburner. Earlier driver version caused the driver to fall just after adjusting power limit. It even fell so hard, it no longer worked properly (i got like 3fps in Unigine Heaven) and i had to restart whole PC. AMD should really focus on fixing bugs in driver and not reinventing stuff, that either already exists via 3rd party tools or useless junk nobody uses (Radeon Antilag and similar BS). There are bugs in the drivers, that are there for years and nobody ever bothered fixing them. Example - 3400G Vega11 igpu to this day flickers on some screens, with amount of flickering differing by connected panel. Vega 8 (i tried 2200G in the same PC) or Radeon graphics on 5000G CPUs does exactly the same. According to AMD forums it´s due to incompatibility between AMD Radeon driver and some TVs/monitors. AMD helpdesk wasn´t very helpful in this matter either, going so far as to recommend users with this issue to use... 1kW PSU... Broken drivers are a constantly recurring theme. Yes, they are better, than they were with RX5000 series, but still far away from being good. Note: if i use Nvidia dGPU in that same PC with Vega 11 flickering issues, not only there is no flickering, the screen is even detected as 12bit instead of just 10bit detected by AMD iGPU. Seriously, if there were such issues with Nvidia, there would be a major backlash from both community and HW outlets. But i guess AMD users like to be punished. Unless AMD will change its ways, my 6600XT is my last AMD GPU.

OR just buy an Nvidia card and let Radeon be for consoles where Sony and Micrsosoft can write actual useful drivers for their GPU.

@@BetoTheButcher this is to get the max out of the card - not to get it to work at all. Every GPU, nvidia or AMD, requires optimisation for best performance and to avoid issues across all games you wish to play. It can go as deep as using specific drivers for specific games depending on what you want to achieve. Sometimes it's just luck. I have a friend with a 3080 that stutters on BF2042 no matter what despite having a far better overall rig than mine. Regardless of which side you choose, be prepared to optimise for modern gaming. For example, with nvidia just the simple process of changing your shader cache to unlimited can solve a good chunk of stuttering issues that your casual user might experience even with a top range modern card. This is why consoles ultimately exist.

My driver literally doesn't have the option. Its an issue people refuse to believe exist lmao type into Google "record and stream no showing up." The outdated part has nothing to do with that

Absolutely, but it would still be lower if you set minimum core clock to 1000 due to the lower nm process.

You still can, just go up the food chain to an X16 card.

I had a 6700xt, have a 6400, rx 550, and a 7900 xt. I almost never had problems with any of them.

And also only costs 250 where as 3060 still costs 3-400…

All kind of games but I did find out that there was a problem with the gpu cooler. Because the hot spot temperature was very high. So I did send it back and got my money back.

You don't know what fine is in 2023 then. I run 5900x eith 6700XT and I feel like my GPU need to be at least 6800XT to satisfy me at 1440/144

@@eugenijusdolgovas9278 well if your talking about planed obsolescence then ya fuck that shit. They are "updating" games to make them not run on my graphics card anymore. I have been playing Fortnite off and on since season 2 of chapter 1 and last time I tried playing it it kept crashing. The internet basically says they updated it to a version of unreal engine that doesn't support my card anymore. The game ran fine so there was no reason for them to do this.

Yeah, Your GPU is 8 years old and no games with patches of 2021 September onwards, don't support it, it just runs, because they all run on the same software.
