why i hated VAN GOGH: THE IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE 

Remember, there are at least 5 different companies running very similar exhibits with similar titles: - Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience - Imagine Van Gogh: The Immersive Exhibition - Immersive Van Gogh - Van Gogh Alive - Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience (the one featured in this video) Make sure to do your research properly and see which one you're looking at (learn from my mistakes)!! Most people who had better experiences went to a different exhibit than the one featured in this video. My opinions here are only about the one called "Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience" run by Exhibition Hub & Fever.

"Vincent Van Gogh, one of the Dutch painters, could not sell a single painting in his whole life. Now only two hundred paintings have survived out of thousands that he painted, because nobody took care of them. He was simply distributing them to friends; nobody would purchase them. People were afraid even to hang his paintings in their sitting rooms because whoever would see them would think that they were crazy: what kind of painting are you hanging here? People were taking them - not to hurt him - thanking him, and throwing his paintings into their basements so nobody would see. Now each of his paintings is worth a million dollars. What happened in one hundred years? The man himself was forced into a mad asylum when he was only thirty-two. And he was forced because of his painting - he was not harmful, he was not violent, he was not doing anything to anybody. I am simply unable to do anything else but what my inner being says to do.” And now physicists have discovered that stars are spirals. It has gone like a shock throughout the world of painters, that only one painter in the whole history of man had some inner contact and communication with the stars - and that was a man who was thought to be mad. And because he was thought to be mad, nobody was ready to give him any service. Every week, his brother used to give him enough money to last for seven days. And he was fasting three days in a week and eating four days - because that was the only way to purchase canvas and colors and brushes to paint. Painting was more important than life. He committed suicide at the age of thirty -three. Just after his release from the madhouse, he painted only one painting, which they had prevented him from painting in the madhouse. He wanted to paint the sun. It took him one year. He lost his eyes… the burning sun, the hot sun, and the whole day long he would be watching all the colors, from the morning till the evening, from the sunrise to the sunset. He wanted the painting to contain everything about the sun, the whole biography of the sun. Everybody who was sympathetic to him told him, “This is too much. Just studying it one day is enough; it is the same sun.” Van Gogh said, “You don’t know. It is never the same. You have never looked at it. I have never seen the same sunrise twice, never seen the same sunset again. And I want my painting to be a biography.” One year… the whole day watching the sun… He lost his eyes, but he painted. And when the painting was complete, he wrote a small letter to his brother: “I am not committing suicide out of any despair - because I am one of the most successful men in the world. I have done whatever I wanted to do in spite of the whole world condemning me. But this was my last wish, to paint the whole biography of the sun in one painting. It is completed today. I am immensely joyful, and now there is no need to live. I was living to paint; painting was my life, not breathing.” And he shot himself dead. You cannot categorize him with ordinary suicides. It is not a suicide - out of despair, out of sadness, out of failure - no. Out of immense success, out of total fulfillment, seeing that now, why unnecessarily go on living and waiting for death?… “I have done the work that I wanted to do.” Every creative artist has to understand this: the moment people start thinking about him that he is a little bit off center, that something is loose in his head, he should rejoice that he has crossed the boundary of the mundane and the mediocre. Now he has grown the wings which others don’t have."

Very similar situation in Boston. These “immersive experience” scam companies are now banking on other public domain artists like Frida and Banksy in the Boston area and showcasing lackluster displays of the artists’ catalogs in cheap rental spaces for like $30-$60 a pop. So shady!

We saw this in Boston today...same exhibit, horribly over sold ($49 per ticket plus $5 each for the VR experience). Graphics were 2005 level quality. I agree with all of your assessment! FEVER put this on in Boston. I've deleted their app and will never attend another FEVER Sponsored event. Cash grab is the right explanation. It was made even worse by employees complaining and yelling at us waiting for the main room. "If you take a floor seat you are not allowed to take a chair later". "You think this is bad, you should have seen yesterday, I'm doing the best I can" UGHHHHH we almost left before entering the main display. Great idea but zero quality control and poor execution.

I'm a huge Van Gogh fan, so I was excited to hear that this show was coming to Raleigh, NC. Even more excited that my daughter and myself got to go and experience this event. I thought it was amazing. I enjoyed everything about it.The art, the 3D replica of his room, the color your own art wall, the wall of sunflowers upon entering, the large reproductions of his artwork, etc. I learned a lot of new information about his life that I didn't know before. My favorite part was the VR experience. I do feel bad about your gift shop experience experience and the lack that they had. Our gift shop was was pretty pretty large and full of Van Gogh everything, which honestly surprised me. I'm sorry you had such a bad experience at your location.

I saw IVG in L.A. on Nov. 24, 2021. It was definitely not the same program you saw. I thoroughly enjoyed the program. I'm elderly and was offered o folding chair. I comfortably watched to program twice. I was fascinated by the moving sweeps of color and how the artist's individual strokes were lifted and manipulated. Some people in our party were a little disappointed, but they weren't bringing as much experience (2 exhibits in the U.S., 2 visits to the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam, various lectures on the artist and his work, viewing various individual works in other museums, lectures, etc.) to the event as I was. I was well prepared to see IVM. I enjoyed the music. L.A. IVM was easy to access by public transportation or personal vehicle. We were a large party, but once we got ourselves assembled and ready, entry took only about 15 minutes. I wasn't thrilled with all the kitsch in the gift shop, but I did purchase the book about how the exhibit was brought together. I would still like to learn more about the technical aspects of the production. Sorry that you had such a bummer experience.

I went to the one in Seattle and it was really funny when my friend and I realized that not only did the voiceover explaining the everything as Vincent Van Gogh pronounce his name wrong in a extremely American accent, but they also had a giant sized version of one of his quotes at the front, where Vincent stated that he would rather be known by his first name than his last, because he knew people would have trouble pronouncing it. (The reason he signed his paintings with just ‘Vincent’). The quote was right underneath the sign that said “Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience”

We went in DC and really enjoyed it. My favorites were the giant bust of his head, and they projected all the self-portraits onto it. Some of them moved slightly like it was alive. It was really cool. That flower vase display was my second favorite! However, I agree about the beginning gallery being so disappointing. They really should have had pictures of the places, and could have had higher quality prints. As for the room, we loved it. There was lots of seating so you could really relax and soak it in. Our kids loved it. I was annoyed at first that they kept rolling on the floor, but then I noticed most kids 10 and under were rolling on the floor; I think it's just how they were enjoying it!

Gotta say, I’m glad the one that came to my state was one of the other ones you showed at the beginning, because it was a much better experience than this seems. Much less actual museum type stuff, but the “immersive” part was more well done.

WoW! Your experience was totally awful for sure. It's a shame. Ours was fantastic, we loved every second of it. We saw the one in Pittsburgh. The gift shop at ours was huge & had something for everyone including clothes. I'm sorry yours was sooo bad.

Just experienced the exhibit in Arizona and we had a great time! I’m so sorry you had a bad experience, I definitely agree that it seems like this specific event was a cash grab! I would’ve been disappointed too.. hopefully another one comes to your area soon so you can experience it in a different way!

Thanks for the honest review! sounds about right to my suspicions. From Nashville, our dates got pushed back two months & were forced to reschedule because they are doing "construction" to better the experience. Deciding wether or not to reschedule or just cancel all together. Seems like they're just putting stuff together last minute city to city 👎🏾

You missed the best part of the entire exhibit - the VR experience which was honestly one of the most breathtaking moments of my life

This is quite interesting, because I have recently gone to a Van Gogh projection exhibit, in The Lume, in Melbourne Australia. Looking at this video after going to one was legitimately funny, lmao. The one I went to had so much well presented information on floating boards in a darkened room, and the main exhibit area with projectors was absolutely massive, with different shapes on the floor and a second level, AND A CAFE STYLED LIKE "Cafe terrace at night". It was truly incredible. (was priced at about 50 AUD btw lol) they even had a center circular room with images of what the example of the van Gogh piece was based off each time they showed one. it also looks like the projection in your showing is sub par, but that might be the camera. I honestly want to go again! So dissapointing that not all of these exhibits are like that though, hope they improve.

We paid about $21.00 per ticket for 2 adults 1 and really enjoyed it. My 11 year old knew a lot about him already but was still enchanted by the show in many respects. Thanks for your take.

Just went to Immersive Van Gogh in Phx and it was amazing. The music along with the movement of the paintings was so calming and thought provoking. The end credits I found out Thom Yorke from Radiohead made one of the songs and along with the movement of the projections made for a pretty amazing combination.

My dad, my wife, and I just went to the Beyond Van Gogh Experiences and we all agreed, if it wasn't for the people, we could have stayed for HOURS. The animations were much better and less cheesy than the ones that you had to sit through, and the very beginning was a room full of screens with Van Gogh's backstory and excerpts from letters to his brother, Theo. It felt like there was respect and love put into the exhibit, and I am so glad I got to be there. It would have been amazing, however, if they could have limited the group sizes by A LOT, there were just too many people and a lot of them were just there to take pics and videos for Instagram and tik tok. It was more the behavior of the people around us that felt disrespectful. It was rude to those of us trying to enjoy the experience and disrespectful to Van Gogh and his work. The gift shop was full, but small. Of course, some of it was a little tacky, I was especially turned off by an ear shaped eraser (truly in poor taste), but I would go again. . . and again. I hope you have the opportunity to go to a better exhibit!

Thanks for this review. The show is coming to Cincinnati in 6 months so advertising is just starting to show up on my news feeds. "How exciting!" I thought, navigating my way to the ticket sales, thinking about the 3 hour drive (one way) with husband and elderly mother in tow, 3 adult tickets, a hotel room, since with arthritis and various joint problems x 3 adults the drive plus the Van Gogh experience would be all we could do in one day, return trip would have to be the next day. Busily trying to work out logistics and financing I see this: "venue secret". Venue secret? WTF?!!!! Now I get it. They aren't going to choose and book a venue until they see the ticket sales! I mean, this is OHIO, folks - not NEW YORK, so why splash out for an expensive venue ahead of time? No thanks. From watching your review I can see how great the show *could* be, but only in the right space (designed FOR THE SHOW) and with state of the art technology - again, DESIGNED FOR THE SHOW. The idea is sound. Turning it into a cash cow? Poo poo heads.

I've been to the Van Gogh Immersive Experience twice and I loved it! I had a great time! It felt very therapeutic to me. In the videos you showed form your experience, the show looks very different than the one I saw. They must've made some vast improvements.

The Immersive Van Gogh exhibit, they have in Orlando, was worth every penny. Thoroughly enjoyed it. It was amazing

Went to the one in London in Dec 2021, the gift shop was awfully small and super expensive ( £2 for a postcard) I bought nothing. Our venue was also very old looking inside. I enjoyed the immersive room though for the large scale, it was a good way to look at the techniques and colour combination from our deck chair!

I just recently went to the one in Portland, Oregon, it was so much better than the one you're describing in Philly. I really enjoyed it, the venue was great, the gift shop was better, and the animations were amazing (they weren't the same ones shown here). I think the one in Philly must be run by a different organization

Thank you for this video, I was looking for something to do with my girlfriend for her birthday. We did something else and probably had a much better time than we would've at that overpriced event

Went to the one in Schenectady, NY and it seemed to be the same one you went to. However, at the end, you could pay $5 more to do the VR experience. That was my favorite part because you essentially got to walk through a visualization of the French town he lived in and it pictured where many of the scenes from his paintings theoretically could’ve been. I liked the imagination of it - even if it cost a little bit extra. That felt way more immersive than the “immersive experience” in the big room!

Being a year after this video was made, and I just returned from the van gogh experience in my town... it in my opinion was a magical experience for myself, my wife and my daughter, the picture quality was fantastic on the prints they had hung and some I couldn't tell were prints until you get verry close. The ambiance and lighting was perfect, the music was serene, and the big room show was just absolutely fantastic. The picture quality, show and music was perfect. Stunning even... and the vr experience was short but I thought it was a great way to end it off. They also had a draw your own "van gogh" art section that we all really liked. I'm not sure if it was just your location but the one I went to was worth every penny to me.

We visited the exibit in New Orleans. For us it was incredible start to finish with only one exception.......it was freezing. We had trouble taking our time because we were shivering. All of the other aspescts of this exibit were so well done. Ty for sharing your perspective on your visit, we will never forget the day we went. It was really special for us.

I am sorry you felt you had a bad experience. I recently attended this in Schenectady, NY and for me it was wonderful. Many of the same graphics were present but the score accompanying it was beautiful. I was moved to tears at one point. The drawing room was equally enjoyable, many of the coloring was done by children. The store was a bit commercial, but well stocked ( I purchased an umbrella). Since my younger days I have been a "worshipper" of Van Gogh. While there is controversy whether this undertaking is disrespectful to his memory and work does exist, I still feel it is an opportunity for a younger generation to get acquainted with his work. My 11 year old granddaughter is looking forward to going. All in all for me it was well worth it.

I bought the tickets for the London experience during covid and finally got round to going this year in January. The location was in a good area and graphics for the immersive part looked good to me. I loved the instrumental that would play over it (Sunrise by Christopher Slaski) and would have loved to take my mum. I really enjoyed it and found it so therapeutic. I did add another poster to my collection from the gift shop and thought the prices weren't too bad.

I did Van Gogh Alive like 6 years ago in rome honestly that one was amazing. It had different rooms dedicated to different parts of his life. The animated his notebooks/sketchbooks and even had pictures of the places he grew up.

You definitely had some really bum luck, the one in Nashville was incredible. Some aspects were certainly similarish, but it was far more well done. I suspect they may have learned from their mistakes in the past months, such as with the "exhibit" you visited, because it was mmmaaajjjooorrrlllyyy late opening and it was definitely a considerably better quality well thought out experience. If I remember correctly our tickets were also a bit more expensive, and was called the Immmersive Van Gogh Experience ran by Lighthouse Immersive and Visioni Eccentriche. I'm sorry yours was so lackluster 😭

I had an amazing time at the DC set up. Learning about his life and his love for different art styles. The 35 min show was visually amazing, but the walk through his evolution as an artist was so informative and fun. If you aren't a Van Gogh expert/superfan, you will learn a lot and appreciate his work. If you are a Van Gogh expert, this isn't might not he for you. I thoroughly enjoyed it 😊

This exhibit was just announced for my city and was considering attending however, the venue looks cheap after seeing the clips being shown. And personally, I don't think VG art need to be digitized, feels inauthentic. I would rather visit and see the legit art works.

I am going to the Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit in San Antonio, TX on August 13th with my husband and friends. He surprised me with tickets and we are staying the night in San Antonio to enjoy the River Walk, etc. I really look forward to this event! He upgraded my ticket and it comes with a Van Gogh poster and a seat cushion (I have a bad back). I hope this experience will be very enjoyable and worth the money we spent! Thank you for your review and I am sorry you had such a bad experience there. I will update this comment after I attend the event !!

I felt the same in London. If it had been a free exhibit, I’d have skipped through all the art re-prints “gallery” section happily learning a few new things about Van Gough’s story along the way. I’d look into the ‘drawing room’ smile for any kids there who could spend some time with crayons, which I did. And I’d sit back like I did in the “immersive experience” and smile at someof the clever prettiness on display around me. Leave and say, that was alright. Wasn’t worth the money at all at all. They did have another virtual reality experience which you paid extra for once inside lol .. this , was worth paying for. Absolutely brilliant. A whole experience of just that would have been great.

Well you certainly lived up to your description of yourself as "grumpy spinster"! I've just taken my artist wife to The Immersive Experience here in London as an early Christmas present and we were blown away by it. The music by Thomas Sohet and Michelino Bisceglia perfectly accompanied the experience. Of course the best bit was the VR which took the whole immersion aspect to another level. Sorry if those of you Stateside feel short changed. Here in England I'd defy anyone who appreciates art and especially Van Gogh not be moved by the whole experience. Well worth the cost of the ticket.

I just got back from "Immersive Van Gogh" in LA and I didn't know there were different versions. I just saw the entire one you went to on RU-vid and it was crap. The music selected was horrible and the narration ruins the vibe. Hope you are able to watch the one I went to someday because the song selected went well with the paintings and could make you shed a tear.

I visited the one in London! We had the giant van gogh head sculpture at the start of exhibition, the immersive room had the ceiling look exactly like stars in the night sky which was really amazing watching. And the music accompanying in the immersive room was well selected. My family totally enjoyed, even my 3 old son ))

Hmmm 🧐 I just got home from the one here in Indio, Ca. , called Beyond VanGogh the Immersive Experience. It was well presented and the animations were well executed. I actually had tears rolling down my cheeks and chills running up and down my body throughout. It was powerful to feel “immersed” in the paintings I’d admired previously at an exhibit years ago in LA. The intro was really well done as well and set up the immersive part well. The gift shop was well attended to. I picked up some refer magnets then found some different ones and by the time I walked back to put them back, they had already replaced them with new ones. So if anyone reading this lives in the Palm Springs area, I recommend 👍🏼☺️

Question it looks like the one in Canada here has a sunflower room with mirrors. Did this Van Gogh exhibit have that?

Many similarities to the show in Bristol (England) but a few differences - & I had no problem with the quality of the projection. Perhaps the organisers can choose from options? You didn't cover the Virtual Reality room at all, which for me was the best part (but obviously can't be reproduced on utube). Costs about £20 in the UK & I would say is worth it (provided it includes the VR!). The gift shop in Bristol was also very well stocked. The exhibition hall is a ten minute walk from the central rail station.

Wow! I think I've just seen this one in Dublin, but they seem to have fixed the issues you've addressed! It is actually one of 2 different Van Gogh experiences we have in Dublin this summer, and I've loved them both. I think if I turned up and it was how it was for you I'd have demanded a refund!

Yes it was trash for me too ! Here in Houston We had to sit on a concrete floor for 35 mins to watch the video . It was a tiny room and it wasn’t even an exhibition like Oml yea I feel bad for my bf since he paid I still appreciated it tho 😌

Love this video 😂 its so funny! But my experience was amazing, made me so emotional and i had chills!! Kinda weird the painting on ir video are nothing the quality ive seen. Doesnt even look like oil paintings. Very odd. Our gift shop was fully stocked. And the Vr experience was the highlight!

Completely agree with your experience. The one we saw in London was achingly dreadful in all respects: 1. The 'exhibition' had some badly printed shots of his works and truly atrocious and lazy descriptions and history. Apparently Van Gogh was the 'rock star of the art world'! I mean, come on... I could find out more information on Wikipedia. 2. The main space was so boring and as you say the graphics and projection was woeful. And as for the spurious sound bites that didn't relate to anything... And I didn't think that Vivaldi's Four Seasons had anything to do with poor Van Gogh. A complete waste of £25 and that didn't include the £10 for the VR experience which we didn't bother with at that price. Overall a huge disappointment and a cynical money-making exercise at the expense of the general public.

I went to Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit in San Antonio TX over the weekend and Im so glad to run into your review because I didn’t want to say it out loud. Between my family and I, our entrance was almost $200.00 and it 100% was disappointing. It did feel like a screensaver, an easy way to make money out of Van Gogh’s art. Thank you for sharing!

WOW that place is a DUMP. I just want to the one in Sarasota FL yesterday and it was unbelievably beautiful. They sent up a gigantic tent that looked like a building it was so pretty. There were large canvas hanging off the walls with thin wire that had the story of the paintings then just gold empty picture frames suspended from a thin wire next to the canvas just to make it look artsy and it was nice. The room was 3 times larger than yours with just a few bench seating around the main post. beautiful crisp graphics, and really good music to suit every paninting. the price was $49 . I'd be really PO'd if I paid that for your experience!!!

Did you have a VR experience as part of your event. For me that was the highlight!

Not the experience I had but then the setup was in a huge warehouse; I think because I’ve been to the art battles in that space; it meant it was more of an experience seeing it be transformed. It was more me thinking about Van Goghs life and how he never would have expected his work to even be of worth; and now of course tickets are selling. Van Gogh could have never have envisioned this. So I saw it more on that level. Seems it had the same things but just not done to the same standard as the one here (Bristol U.K. ) I made my own video on chris shopland vlogs which is basically this but put to music. More a sensory relaxation really; sort of like a spa day for the senses 🤷‍♂️ For those you want to really get to know Van Gogh life and works, the book the complete works and the museum in Amsterdam go much more in-depth 🥰 so this experience isn’t a place to learn about Van Gogh but to experience the work in a new way. I thought it was a interesting way to show art and happy I went, although was suggested by a friend or I may not have gone 😊

I saw it in Bordeaux , it was 20,000 sq ft, we had wine, laid on huge floor cushions and we were truly immersed,, my mother said she would have paid $1000 for the experience❤🇨🇵

At 6:06, when you said "review", it sounded like you put the emphasis on the first syllable of the word, rather than the second (and again, when you said "review" again). I wondered where you learned that from. I think it sounds charming and unique... I realize nobody else gives a crap, but I've spent too long texting this to delete it now, so, alas... Here it is.

My experience was that they actually names one of these “experiences” off as something similar to the DIA (Detroit institute of arts); So, instead of going to the best museum in the US, me, my brother, and parents got scammed and were instead mentally forced to sit in this “experience” with the thought in mind of when a good time to leave would be so we didn’t completely waste our money…

Ive been at the same exhibition in Ludwigsburg, here in Germany, hust yesterday. I liked it quite a lot. The canvas prints were of good quality imo. Definetly enought to get the feel of the painting. I agree that some of the nimations were "cheap" looking, but some parts were made very good. It was enough though to get caught by it and feel in into a dream world. The video projection was of quite long duration. The even was the possibility to get a Virtual Reality experience in dive in into "Van Goghs world". So you had VR glasses on you could turn around and youve been in a world that was inspired by Van Goghs painting. 11 minutes long. That was amazing. All in all very good, but a bit pricey for 22 Euros plus 3 Euros VR.

Some people were telling me about this last year when they heard I was an art student. They said it was an amazing experience but I couldn't wrap my head around what sounded like just a light show (projections).... and tickets were $60-130.. I just looked up and found a video of what was shown in Charlotte. Although it certainly seemed nicer than the show you attended.. i still wasn't impressed. I can see images on my computer or a book. Seeing real paintings in real life is an incredibly powerful experience. Seeing the texture of the paint and brushstrokes, the aging of the work, finding the fine details hidden throughout... I still don't understand the allure of this traveling screen saver. Maybe if I was high on mushrooms but I still couldn't justify the price (they'd have to provide the shrooms! lol)

I'm sorry to say the set up where I am was 3/4 times that size in a stadium here in Auckland NZ and the quality of projections was there. We also tried an acid tap for the first time during it and it was the most amazing experience I've had

Thank you for exposing this ripoff on a great, dead artist - obviously "out of copyright". How humiliated he would feel. This looks really bad. I heard about it from friends and sniffed a rat or two. I think you were much too kind in your analysis, which says more about you than this pathetic scam. Too bad that the descendants of VG can't sue these creeps.

We were at the Seattle Van Gogh experience today. It was exquisite. Transforming. Gorgeous! I didn’t want to leave. Highly recommend it.

Well at least they are bringing his art to masses and attention I’m not an art snob but I have an understanding of it through all my high school and college time I appreciate they show the common folks

I just got back from this. I'm in Texas for reference. We only had the projector room and a pretty good gift shop. Our projector video was very different. Started off feeling like a horror movie. No info on Vincent himself, no info on the art. Nothing. 30 minuet video for 70! bucks a seat.

Girlll. I went to the one in San Francisco in 2021 and let me tell you it was even worse. Only the main room + gift shop and that’s it! Wish I remember what company it was but at the time I wasn’t aware it was more than one

Yup… same experience in Cincinnati… and I completely agree with all your points. The shocking thing is people are actually giving this five start reviews….or they faked them.

I wouldn’t recommend this specific one the one that I enjoyed was beyond van gough which is incredibly detailed and in amazing quality for the price dont waste your money friends

TBF, I really enjoyed it! Saw the one in Spitalfields in London last year. Had a great time, including the Quest 2 immersive experience. I also got a bookmark (gift shop items were quite expensive, yes), but also the large immersive room was just one aspect of the event. However, I appreciate the works there as Van Gogh was only celebrated posthumously. I learned so much more about his life and works, saw a lot of great artworks, and do appreciate the Exhibition Hub for all of their dedication. Think of it more as a virtual curation event, not just a form of entertainment. Maybe these aren't just for you.

I went to the London one last October. The screens weren't working in the large immersion room with one turned off completely. The venue is not disability friendly at all, stairs only no lift and no prior warning about this. My Grandad got confused and ended up outside missing the gift shop completely and he wanted to buy my son a van Gogh poster and they wouldn't let him back in!

Same experience :( I heard people talking about it all over the city, not to mention national TV. It was in a middle of nowhere warehouse outside the city So addition to the $60 a pop tickets, we had to pay $25 for parking at the warehouse because it was also the only place within 10 miles you could park. You walk in and it’s a dark room signs with signs that had little blurbs about his life, same stuff you can read on Wikipedia. Then you get to a large exhibit room and it’s an installation of an animation of his works being projected onto the walls. The animation was cool, but I definitely would not have gone if they had advertised “come see an animation of VVG works on a projector an hour outside of town”. Wishing my partner and I spend the $150 on a donation to a local organization that produces actual art works instead of this money grab. Tisk, risk.

I've never been to an art show and this will be my first one in fresno ca. I don't know if it's the lack of expectation for me, but the creativity in this kind of showcase looks amazing to me. 30$ is nothing nowadays so I'm grateful to get an experience like this for so little.

I completely agree. I saw it in Nashville and was very disappointed in the quality of the graphics. The projections were awful. The giftshop had little variety and again, the quality of the "gifts" were poor. Not worth the money I spent.

This was helpful! We have this coming up in Sarasota soon, and tickets are $49 ish plus tax. Factor gas and time for 200 mile round trip plus probable parking... I think I will pass.

I went to the Immersive Monet exhibit with my girlfriend while on vacation in LA. It was ok, like c+. It was a nice surprise from my girlfriend, who knows my love of art. My natural habitat is an art museum. This was honestly like something from 20 years ago. The projections were large but strangely desaturated, the animations were distracting and the overall vibe was just off. I grew up loving art, but never got to see originals of my favorite paintings until I lived in the east coast and was able to visit the big galleries in New York and Boston. There is no substitute for spending quiet hours with those works, the multi media just added a layer between me and the art. Might be cool to take some kids too though!

This is such a shame & it makes me angry when companies do this. :( Melbourne, Australia has a space called The Lume which is currently showing a Van Gogh exhibition & it is spectacular. The main space is huge, you can even go up onto a large balcony area to watch the film - there is even a cafe in the projection space, part of which is designed to look like The Terrace. Hopefully you have much better experiences with these types of exhibitions in the future!

I saw the one in Houston and it was both cheaper tickets and better visually. We also specifically bought our tickets at a time of day where it wasn't crowded and there wasn't such thing as a line. Also since we live in a nicer side of city, and they obviously had a bigger room for the projections thus making it virtually empty of the tourist type but making the pixels not really an issue. *sigh* Wish you the same experience I had in Houston, but when you live in where you live, you get what you get. (Also our gift shop didn't suck at all and was packed with cool stuff... Though I agree some of the starry night tea set was lacking)

Partner and I just went to ours by *Immersive Van Gogh* in Detroit MI. It was awful. Also a "secret location" and a building that had 2 big rooms basically. They put up something like 2-3 wall drawings with Van Gogh quotes, but it was literally 2 hot rooms of projectors. The rooms were warm, and on a hot May 31st night, it was sweaty and it took away from any viewing. The art seemed to be a little better than your screen saver effects, but not by much. Maybe we are too upity, since we saw Van Gogh's paintings in Paris, but this felt super cheap and commercialized to the max. It was basically overselling a bunch of projectors and music mixed in. My partner was upset at the end as she loves works by Van Gogh and she felt cheated and we paid for "premium" which got us "temporary" plastic pillows to sit on... WHEN THERE WERE AMPLE BENCHES in both rooms.. smh. The gift shop was better than the one you showed, but basically highlighted it was a cash grab.

Yours was nothing like ours here in Salt Lake. Ours was beautiful, the beginning was information was done like an an incredible art exhibit in amd of itself. The actual event was beautifully done and the gift shop was perfect. I'm sorry you had a bad experience at the one you went to, I would have been disappointed also.

The ticket website is also a problem, they auto add kids ticket if you are not careful. Yo have to start over as their is no way to edit the cart.

It's a crude version of augmented reality where they try to articulate a perception of the art and meld that with the actual picture information but it completely misses the nature of his paintings and instead treats the content as flat and diagrammatic and literal thus denuding the art of its pictorial sign language and its meaning which currently is beyond current subjective technology. One can never have an immersive experience of a painting anyway. Painting is not for that and in all cases, each still of any 'immersive' vision is a different picture altogether and that paradox cannot be overcome. I just went to the same one a year later with no crowd at all, and I love the intimate immersive experience, doesn’t feel cheap when there’s no crowd

Most amazing experience here in Bristol UK. The VR was awesome I believe if you are an artist you will experience this on a different level and not look for pixilations etc, it was the feel of the experience , and if you were looking at the graphics, you just won’t understand. I never seen any of these things you talk about as I was experiencing the immersive experience ☺️🌼🌼🌼

I wish there was more.but It had 3 rooms you could see it from. And I still loved it. The gift shop was very colorful and nice. Some people liked it others didn’t
