Thanks for your video I can relate to you feeling towards the US of America. Will be in Merida, Mexico next week. Hopefully making it my home base.

Congratulations on taking your first step on leaving the US and if I may add Mexico was a good choice for starting out. Honestly, I’m not happy to see more Americans coming to Mexico, my adopted home, but since you are both black and queer I’ll give you a pass 😅. If that didn’t clue you in I’m also black/mixed race transgender and queer and I’ve been living in Mexico for almost 4 years now. I escaped the US in September 2020 and have never looked back, because it was one of the best decisions of my life. I’ve also been to Canada, Ecuador, Guatemala and Panama, but prefer Mexico. I’m a retired person and you’re right this is a freer more peaceful tranquil safer place to be than the US and my reasons for leaving are similar to yours, but I have more. I too never felt like an American and always felt out of place. This country has values that align more with my own and I was so happy when I finally got my four year temporary residency and when that expires I will get permanent residency and eventually naturalized citizenship, so I can have a Mexico passport. I’ve lived in three cities here and visited another and I will probably travel to others. Well I think that’s enough. If you’d like to chat let me know. I don’t often invite others into my world, but I’m willing to take a chance. Have a great day! Oh and you’re right Mexicans are a wonderful, respectful, kind, generous, friendly people in my experience. Hasta luego!

@@NikStarchildTravelsTheWorld you’re most welcome! Puerto Vallarta was where I started my Mexico journey and I lived there for some time, but it became too touristy and pricey for me so I decided to leave. I’ve been in Oaxaca City since leaving PV and im very happy here and this city actually suits me better. Ok, take care!

Great video Nik. It was a hard realization to know how much the network effect matters vs. hard work. I grew up in the Southern US where people have all kinds of delusions about how only hard work matters. We have to assume everyone is working hard and that there are other factors when it comes to success. I was laid off from my Bay Area tech sales job last summer and immediately purchased a flight to Thailand. The icing on the cake was getting my car broken into two weeks before I left. Subscribed!

Thanks! Yes, I hear this a lot from people who are struggling. Misery loves company. So happy that you were able to leave the US. I hope to make it to Thailand in the near future.

Curious: as a black gay man have you experienced more racism from the gay community or homophobia from the black community? I'm white so I've just heard things like that but not seen it with my own eyes because obviously...I'm white. So just curious. Thanks. Glad you got to a life that isn't constantly causing you stress.

I have and it's really, not sure of the word, but devastating. Like a weird form of mental/emotional homelessness It's something I'm honestly exploring in my healing.

@10-OSwords Thanks for the support. Yes, life is much better here. Honestly, I've experienced the most hate in general online people love to hide behind a screen and would never say these things to your face. But I've gotten the most hate from the Black community with both homophobia and internalized anti-blackness.

@makeitmakesense2616 I'm convinced people who say hateful things are not only ignorant, but are really sad and unhappy in their personal lives. Why would they spend this time spreading hate if they were actually happy? Also, jealousy/envy; some people can't stand to see others living their best/truest life, because they aren't able to. I just feel bad for them.

I am very happy for you. Looks like PV is a great choice. I hear that comment a lot . we built usa . It’s really we worked for someone. When you build something their is autonomy and you are a creator. Creators have a say in what happens. Good luck to you
