I'm a Chico, CA citizen, and have been in CN more than 17 years, now in Shenzhen. I've shared the same reasons with people, but not as lucidly as you have! One of my big fears is that if the US gov't (aka MIC) does anything stupid (stupider than they have already been doing), you and I and other US citizens could be deported. One thing I'll add is culture: I'm a composer, and use my music to promote peace, and another reason is that China is the people who is leading the world to Peace! 🌹

If war breaks out, Chinese democratism will be at an all-time high, but as far as existing Chinese history goes, it's unlikely that there will be a mass expulsion of expatriates from China. I don't know if you know anything about Sino-Japanese war orphans. after WW2, the Japanese left probably tens of thousands of war orphans in China, and these children and women were taken in by ordinary Chinese families. It was only after the normalization of Sino-Japanese relations that they left China in 1970s~1990s

Don't worry about it. The Chinese know the difference between the government and the general public. Even if the two countries are at war, as long as you don't do anything hostile to China yourself, the Chinese will still treat you well. Right now the relationship between the two countries is hostile, but have you ever heard of an American citizen being attacked in China? On the contrary there are many Chinese who are attacked in the US simply because they are of Chinese descent. Another example is the way the Chinese treated Japanese civilians in China after the end of the war. The Chinese people did not persecute ordinary Japanese and raised many Japanese orphans. So you have nothing to fear. The Chinese will decide how to treat you based on your own behavior, not that of the US government.

From Malaysia. Travelled ( By Bike and back packing ) in US and China in the 2010. Already i felt that it is MUCH safer in China than in US. And I am a season backpacker with lots of experience. Felt really "Afraid" in certain cities and location in US ,But in China I could not even care less when walking along at midnight on a deserted street.

There are 6000 Mainland Chinese blatantly running into the USA and asking for Asylum every year. This is a small number compared to over 60,000 who are living in the USA illegally by simply overstaying their visas. Nobody knows for sure the 'unknown illegal Chinese' but some evidence insists there are some 100,000 who live illegally in the USA. Of course there are a million fully legal Chinese living, studying and immigrating too. but really think about that for a minute? Thousands of Chinese a month are risking their lives and spending all they had to get out of China and into the USA even if it means living illegal lives without citizen rights etc. They still want that more than living as citizens in China. oh and nearly any American could 'get out' of the USA if they wanted. even the poorest Americans could get on a bus and in a day be in Mexico or Columbia lol

I am from Guangdong of China. I would like to point out one thing that cameras are not the critical reason for less and less crimes in China. As you can see robber wearing mask to rob in the bank where has many camaras in the U.S. During the 90s when I was a kid, there are a lot of crimes including stealing and drug abuse , but as time went by, less and less such things happened, and there are many reasons for this I think. As economy develops, people can find opportunities making money everywhere easily, so why risk stealing and robbing, which will face severe punishment in the end. And the society has developped a culture worshipping those winners in both learning and work, it is shameful for those that do not study hard and work hard. American culture encourage personality, freedom and even enjoy violence, as can be seen in movie and games everywhere, which helps crimes and drug abuse. But sure it helps to make popular TV series and popular movie as well. And freedom is something many dream of in this world, which also has something to do with creativity I think. It is complicated to say which is better, or rather, which is worse.

The low crime rate is not only due to cameras everywhere. There is an ancient Chinese saying:"仓廪实而知礼节,衣食足而知荣辱",The meaning is: Only when the people have sufficient food can they understand etiquette, and only when they have no worries about food and clothing can they know honor and disgrace. We never lack food, clothing, shelter, and there is no need to steal. I am 25 years old and have never seen drugs, nor have I heard of any classmates or friends around me taking drugs. The government has protected us very well, and we can always respond quickly to any disaster. Let me give an example of a recent earthquake. The 8-magnitude earthquake in Jishishan County, China occurred at 23:59 midnight, and the first batch of rescue forces arrived 35 minutes after the earthquake; 2 hours and 40 minutes later, the Governor and Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee of Gansu Province arrived in disaster area one; The main rescue team arrived 4 hours after the earthquake; The arrival time of the first batch of materials 6 hours after the earthquake; In the morning, people have already eaten steaming hot noodles; The rescue work was completed 16 hours after the earthquake, and all power and transportation infrastructure were restored. In China, the government's responsibility is to serve the people. If local governments engage in dereliction of duty, they will be held accountable by the central government. Once held accountable, a large number of senior officials will be dismissed and punished. So every local government is conducting various disaster drills in order to respond quickly in the event of a natural disaster.

Not really, you just have to get a job that can give you the chance. The best way to work for any foreign firm in China is to find the job in another country and then be sent here. Finding a job and THEN coming here is better for the following reasons: Housing tends to be covered Salaries tend to be higher Schooling (if you have kids) tends to be paid for. This is HUGE because international schools in China are all private and they are expensive. You might be provided with cleaners, cooks, and drivers. You’ll probably be provided with someone here to introduce you to the area and give you an “orientation” of some sorts. Believe me, you will discover that the quality of life in China is excellent, as the aforementioned experiences are genuine reflections of my current life.

Cool, I'll just get off disability, return to the workforce in my late 40's, and compete for an amazing job in a multinational corporation that will definitely send me to China in this economy, and with Biden eager for war. I'll probably do okay against the freshly graduated, highly qualified beautiful people, and the applicants with experience, and everyone who got displaced by AI, assuming AI hasn't already destroyed the job. Instead of being dirt poor and waiting to die, I could simply ascend to the upper-middle class where I'll be valued, productive, happy, and surrounded by beautiful people with meaningful lives. Then I can go to China, or stay and buy a luxury car and a beachfront house for the beautiful and loving upper-middle class woman I'll marry. Or, as the OP said, I'm jealous, because I'm stuck in this propaganda shethole of a country and would love to leave. If we hate it that much, there's a good reason. For me, it's because life sucks and it always has. I'm permanently broke, alone, diseased, trapped, and miserable. If I save more than $2000, my income is taken away permanently. Not once have I come close to having that much money. I'll never know what it's like to "just" walk in, grab a high-end job, and get everything I've ever wanted.

@@Dim.X Corruption is inevitable. All governments have corruption. So you need to see what the government has done for the people/taxpayers when all governments are corrupt. There is a big difference between China and the United States from this perspective. The most classic example is the development of cities. For example, the Chinese government will use taxpayers' money to build some projects that will cause short-term losses but are beneficial to long-term development, such as high-speed rail. Currently, only a few high-speed rails in China are profitable. In the past few years, there were no high-speed rails that were profitable. However, the losses of high-speed rail have promoted the development of trade, logistics, tourism and manufacturing between different provinces in the north and south of China. The Chinese government is willing to use 1-10 years of losses in exchange for greater profits in 10 years. As far as I know, the US government will not do such a thing because it is difficult to make short-term profits.

Yeah... China is safe with or without cameras. It's probably due in a large part to the culture in China and other East Asian territories which places the community good above self. Cameras are required for technology and surveillance is part of that, and why not? However, with cameras, you can be assured that you are like 100% safe that even an occasional drunkard can't get away with any crimes, petty or otherwise. And, why not? London, Britain has the highest number of CCTVs per capita, and yet the darn place is rife with crimes, the homeless, etc. And, OMG, the Brits, the pariah politicians, journalists, etc. want to lecture other people on freedom and safety, ethics, blah blah blah... they should take care of themselves first. what propaganda are you talking about? the only thing America says is that China wants to invade Taiwan for their semiconductor industry and petty revenge from old civil war. You're literally watching white monkey propaganda videos and praising her for repelling propaganda that doesn't exist.

@wenruozhuanshuwell Said my ass. US is a culture of hard work and entrepreneurship. A country if inventions and opportunities. A sporting culture an entertainment culture. Culture of academia. By far the greatest universities. Look at the top 100. LA and New York have more museums than most cities globally. Someone must go, Farming culture. Very religious cultural areas and states. I could go on. Anyway you guys are just dehumanising idiots,

I personally think the cost of living is my number one reason for liking China, even though I don't live in China, I always like to go back for more, because how cheap it is, and how much further my dollar stretches, shop like a billionaire anyone? (Not an ad for temu), it just feels like I am richer than I actually am, and became someone famous while living in China, that is the vibe.

Used to feel amazing in US, not anymore. Now I m not even interested in vacation in USA, things havnt change in like 20 yrs over there. Guns, drugs, transportation, and prices went out of the roof and even many Americans cannot afford need to live on the streets. Meanwhile China is full of amazing places, and getting better everyday

My God, Chinese food is something you can't imagine, as long as you don't worry about gaining weight, you can come boldly, China is very big, some regions like to eat spicy, sweet, and salty. You can experience a variety of flavors in China. I think you're going to love it. If you want to come, make a good travel guide (there are many on the web)

My husband felt that he had a target on his back the last time he was in Shanghai. He still gets invitations, but since foreign economists have been getting arrested lately, he has declined all invitations. Many native Chinese have moved to Japan because the cost of living is less than China’s, the healthcare is free, and the stress is less-even in overcrowded Tokyo. Plus, in Japan, people work only 40 hours a week!
