"Doesn't that dog look familiar?" "Nope. I have never seen that dog before in my life." That last line was probably the best last line in any movie I've ever watched. It shows that Bolt and Penny finally have the life they want. A life where they can enjoy themselves and be happy. Where they aren't celebrities or actors. Just some random girl and her dog.

damn when you said 'this is just a girl and her dog dying in a fire' had me tear up. That was an unexpectedly powerful mental image. Like, I knew that was what was going on but the way you said it really stressed that point of how possible that kind of tragedy really is. Real people don't die in cola and mentos vulcanos. Real people die in random unfortunate (house) fires or from smoke inhalation. Real people can die in a tragic accident at their completely regular should-be-safe- job. It is more 'real' and therefore more relatable.

This is one of those Disney movies that could actually work as a show taking place after. We can get to see Bolt continuing to learn how to be a dog while Penny goes to school. He looked just like him too. Sure this movie was a kids' movie, and its themes are lackluster to someone who is constantly watching film, who grow with time, but this movie becomes so personal for people. What it stands for is beautiful, and I'll always fight for the recognition this movie deserves!

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge, together….

Bolt was so impactful to me as a kid, because it was the first time I had heard of cats being de-clawed and that sometimes people will do such a harsh thing and then just… leave. I couldn’t imagine doing something so devastating and then on top of that, ABANDONING them! Other than that, I thought the idea of raising an actor dog to think that the super powers he was written to have was real was an interesting concept. One thing I always loved was how "real" it felt. They notably use real vehicles, places, objects, everything. You see realisitc models. Although animals cannot talk and the people are somewhat cartoony, everything else feels real. Notably, the train scene knocks it out of the park. Usually when you see trains in movies, they are out of era, unrealistic, operating in the wrong territory, and loosely based on some prototype. In Bolt, however, you see a freight train pulled by CSX SD70Ms in the YN2 paint scheme, pulling TTX well cars, PS-4 hoppers, and UTLX tank cars, all real railroad equipment. This is a real train, and this part of the movie takes place in Ohio. What is one of the major railroads in Ohio? *CSX.* This makes the movie feel so much more real, and the fact that they added this shows they cared. If you grew up in Ohio in the 2000s, or even now, you will recognize the train as being a CSX train. Amazing scene. Thanks Bolt!

At recess, I would quote Bolt with my friends and we would act like the characters. I bought the Bolt video game on DS and decorated my DS with Bolt stickers. I ate, slept, breathed, sweated Bolt. I've never had such an obsession and hyper-fixation with a singular piece of media like I did Bolt. I still think it's one of Disney's best, honestly. It's so much more than it appears and it is a Pixar-level tear-jerker. And it's actually hilarious. The dialogue is witty and Mittens and Bolt's dynamic is incredible and absolutely carries the movie. I just love it. It's a burning building as opposed to green eyed man sci-fi shenanigans, but even though none of that stuff was real, Bolt is a hero. His bravery and loyalty to Penny and their love for each other was always real. One of the reasons this movie is such a great kids movie as well is because of Bolt going missing. For any kid who’s lost a pet, the feeling of watching this movie and imagining your own pet going on an adventure to get back to you; making friends along the way and experiencing the world is such a hopeful feeling. And of course with the climax, Penny and Bolt finding each other, making eye contact. That through the smoke and the tears and the blurry vision they could instantly recognize each other; incredible.

The score in this movie was composed by THE John Powell! The same composer who did the How To Train Your Dragon trilogy, worked on several other DreamWorks films including Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, and The Road To El Dorado, and composed most of the soundtracks for Blue Sky studios. John Powell is a freaking legend and this score definitely shows that! Also, you didn't even talk about what is arguably my favorite scene in this movie: when Bolt breaks out of the animal control truck and gets super excited when he thinks his powers actually worked, only to find out that Rhino unlocked the door and Bolt finally realizes that Mittens was right - leading him to lose confidence in himself until Rhino gives him a pep talk. Brillaint emotional scene right there.

This video makes me so happy. I was also pretty crushed by Schaf’s take on Bolt. I also have a same yet differing view on Rhino. Granted, he can for sure be annoying, but at the same time I like the dynamic between the three animals. Rhino and Bolt agreeing on his “obvious” past and Mittens being done 24/7 was always funny/interesting to me. Though I TOTALLY get him being annoying. Sometimes I just roll my eyes at him haha. This is my favorite movie. Has been for a long time.

The pigeons in the latin spanish version (which is the one I saw as a child) have a really stressed Argentine accent, which makes them sound really goofy and out of place compared to the more "neutral" spanish the other characters have. Even as a child and living in Argentina my hole life I always exploded laughing when hearing them cause they are so off-tone to the rest of the voices. I really recommend watching that clip in latin spanish, it's pure gold

I adored this movie as a kid Honestly, I am ashamed that most of the plot points went over my head as a kid- like the fact that it was a movie studio gaslighting a dog into a controlled environment, the animal shelter scene, penny being a child star that was pressured into a choice that I could never make to this day and bolt´s powers and the crisis identity that was going on. I was obsessed like you with the relationship between Penny and bolt, Mittens, and action scenes. I was so obsessed that I and my best friend always roleplayed the movie. I was almost always bolt, down on the ground, doing my own Superbark¨, the dramatic leg movements, and my best friend, Penny, giving my head a pat saying the iconic line..¨That´s my big brave boy´´ AND HOW CAN I FORGET the Zoom Zoom Two of us running around together and our parents thinking we were crazy, but it was just pure fun to redo such an emotional scene. Our favorite part was always the fire rescue scene. It was always a gut-wrenching scene to us of all the emotions that bolt and Penny were going through. So yes....Bolt is a masterpiece, never underrated for me

Disappointed you didn't bring up how manipulative and twisted it is that the studio executive puts the decision to stop looking for Bolt _on a literal child._ They frame it as making a mature decision to protect the jobs of the staff and crew as if that's actually what's going on. The producers want filming to continue so they can get paid. Don't forget, right before that, her agent tried to trick her into thinking they found her dog by bringing in a replacement and when she called him out, he tried to gaslight her.

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for this video. Bolt is the movie I watched nearly every single day as a child. I watched it in Spanish and French and the script memorized in my brain. So many people have either never heard of Bolt or don’t remember anything about it, and it breaks my heart. You singing along to the score at the end is ME. Now heads up this is a LONG comment! I kinda went off on a tangent! As for Rhino, while I can totally see some people finding him annoying, looking back on it now, his role is actually interesting. He’s delusional and also entirely convinced that Bolt is a real super dog, which feeds into Bolt’s belief. But then when Bolt realizes he doesn’t have superpowers and doesn’t think he can save Mittens, Rhino gives him that speech that starts off silly with mentioning accomplishments he did in his show, and Bolt tries to interrupt and say that wasn’t real, but Rhino keeps going. Despite his ridiculousness, he actually says some meaningful things both in this speech and the one when he and Mittens go after Bolt when he left. He actually unintentionally redefines a “hero” in Bolt’s head. He says they’re “someone, who no matter what the odds, will do what is right”. THAT is a hero, superpowers or not. Later when he’s talking to Mittens after Bolt left, and she doesn’t understand why he would go after him, he says “you never abandon your friend in a time of need” and it’s flanked by silly comments about the villain and “not knowing if you’ll come back dead or alive” but he’s right. Rhino is ridiculous, but his energy is a blast to me. The scene where he gets recruited is hilarious. The back and forth between him and Bolt is amazing. It’s so silly but so fun, and that’s a lot of the whole movie really! It’s fun, sweet, and meaningful, and it’s more real, like you said about the climax. Yeah, silly talking animals, but Penny and Bolt dying in a fire?! There’s nothing fantastical about that. God I need more people to realize how good this movie is. I desperately want Disney to make a Disney+ series for them, that IS the TV show they were filming! That’s what they did for the video games that came out for Bolt, you played through the adventures with real powers and whatnot, and that would make such a fun Disney+ series. Okay, sorry, my essay is over now, thank you for this video giving love to one of my favorite films of all time. 🤍⚡️

I think what I love about it the most is how real the movie is. There's a certain level of elevated sentience they gave the animals, but it's a story that takes place in what feels like real life. They could've even made it live action for the most part like Babe. Most people probably feel it makes it forgettable but I feel it's what makes it stand out

Tropes exist for a reason: they are story-telling tools. Some are overused, but then there are also inverted tropes. What we have on the surface of Bolt is The Hero's Journey. Like, literally. However, even though he returns to the exact same world and people as he left, Bolt's adventure gives him a new perspective on everything. Then, in Penny's moment of need, the only way for Bolt to save her was to combine the fake skills with real knowledge, but that's not even the best part of it. That climax takes place in the real world. Fires are real, and children dying in them is also very real. This is the best part because it's so believable, it could've actually happened. And that's the part that makes me cry.
