Kubo is god-like when it comes to designing characters man. Can't really think of too many mangaka better than him when it comes to that. #bleach #ichigokurosaki #characterdesign #titekubo
Actually, Kubo mentions that if he didn't actually became a mangaka, he would either work as a architecture(which he mentions his work on Las Noches building structures) and fashion(which obviously shows alot of goddamn drip).
I swear Bleach has well over 100 characters and each one of them has their unique personality traits and character design. There are very little few shonen that have managed to do something like this
personality in terms of design language yes, but in terms of writing i would be surprised if you could name more than 5 that arent 1dimensional and boring
I don't know how Kubo managed to make them wear the exact same uniform and still able to keep their personalities that it looked different on each person. I'm amazed 👏👏👏
He's a genius really. it all feels like the same uniform, but because they all wear it differently (based on their personality) not a single uniform looks the same. Like you can literally grab any two characters and they won't have the same exact uniform (maybe except the grunts)
@@blacky8987i wouldn't say that. How can itadori and gojo look like ichigo and not look like each other? Ichigo doesn't look like either of them, the kakashi style comparison is kinda valid tho.
For me bleach had the peak of character designs they all look so badass the espadas . If dbz keep his 80s still dbs could be one the best things but they try to mimic jojos and one piece now.
The fact that the range of Kubo's fashion style for each characters in bleach is very amazing and memorable to readers. And they all have their own leitmotif. Like soul reaper's shihakusho from traditional Japan . Ishida's almost like a priest , and quincy basically style as soldier overall. And loyal fans can see the changes in his artwork as Kubo's style become more matured, high quality followed by Ichigo's character and bleach tone as a whole
Kubos love of streetwear in art is something I adore. The opening of Cour 2 speaks to this perfectly. It looks like all those art pieces we used to get, and it's full of ifyky moments.
I also love how the Soul Reapers, Hollows, and Quincies each have their own uniforms, but each member of each organization has their own little differences in them to show their personalities
Kubo's also got one hell of a brilliant sense of *Composition:* using perspective, lighting & colour in truly genius ways to show the inner selves of the characters. Just take a closer look at Ichigo's typical side-eye in the image above. (You could teach an entire Art Class from just this image..!) Itchigo's side-eye look is both arrogant & a little contemptuous (after all, not putting your complete attention on your opponent during a potential fight is pretty risky - especially if you don't have their measure), but at the same time, he's not particularly belligerent (like Kenpachi), either. Don't attack him, anyone under his protection - or (especially) threaten his friends & he'll generally be ok with letting you go... His face is (quite literally) half in shadow & half in the light, making him capable of both - but his eye is on the line... He's still got his youthful, shaggy, punky, hair [⊛] (implying that he's not a rigid follower of the rules), while the fitted uniform & formal stance, emphasises he's still capable of discipline when he wants to be... All of this is done in a single throw-away panel, with minimal background or dialog to interfere. [ Incidentally, Kubo also hides Easter-Eggs for other artists in his art, by referencing extremely famous & influencial artworks by old European Masters, 1960s Modern Artists Disney & (of course) other famous Mangaka. ] ⊛ Also check out how Kubo uses hairstyles alone to show personality in his characters. How many charachers could you instantly recognise in silhouette?
What's super interesting about this is the way that Kubo makes new characters for his story first he comes up with a character design and then he makes a personality around that character design
Amazing video that both gives Bleach the flowers it deserves and critques it when it needs be(while i dont subscribe to all the critques) Peak deserves peak video essays 😤😤😤
I think its my favorite artstyle. And I feel like hes one of the few Mangaka...who can draw busty women who are believable in their Anatomy. Or rather: My man understands gravity. 🤭
It's the only manga with this insane aspects: 1. Cool fashion design, no character cloth looks the same and all clothes are cool 2. Amazing body carachter design and supreme face expressivity 3. Every character has its own dedicated personalities 4. There's hundreds of characters and all looks different and nice! I've never ever seen a manga with this variety and quality before. Its a shonen yeah, but it's also a seinen for its curated and realistic design. ❤️
Bleach and One Piece are honestly peak character design in fiction period, always bursting with personality on a single glance (in two very different ways), in hundreds of years art students will be studying Kubo and Oda's work
This is true. Every main character has like 3 or 4 looks throughout the series, new characters are almost always very unique in design (save like some weird versions of Aizen, [Askin and Genjo]). Heck, even one offs get unique designs. Kubo is for sure one of the greatest.
Its the saddest thing to me because when every character is hot, I dont care about any of the characters attractiveness. Like yea Grimmjow is probably my favourite but he's just 1 of 100 other attractive males in the series. Gems are only pretty when rocks exist, a gem in a sea of gems holds lesser value
People saying Bleach ain’t a part of the Big 3 is absurd. Tons of manga currently in Shonen Jump are inspired by the edgy tone, stylish art, and concepts from Bleach. Some examples include: Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man, Demon Slayer, Black Clover, My Hero Academia, Noragami and more.
Kubo is one of the few Mangaka who gets Black people right!! He makes each character articulate in appearance and he makes sure to update each character depending on his/her character and upgrades
Bleach is the only anime I have ever seen that the only reason a character looks like someone else is because they are a relative. People thought in the early stages that Ichigo looked like Kaien Shiba was a coincidence but it turned out he is Ichigo's Uncle
Im reminded of what a friend said about the Big 3: Of the Big 3, Naruto has the best fights, One Piece is the best written, and Bleach has the best artwork.
