@@benbarrycars7628 Yup! Incredibly grateful to have it. Showed up for sale at a very good price but needed some serious work, its been a ~2 year long project to slowly fix it up while dailying it, and its now pretty close to perfect mechanically.
Get what you are saying about the brakes. They don't bite as early and hard as modern cars but boy, when you stand on them properly, they are awesome. I like that.
Mine is a 99 .1 pretty much same looking but with PSE, engine rebuild, full suspension refresh and RSS engine mounts and 997.2 GT3 shifter. Absolutely fantastic 👌🏼
Lovely spec especially the blue interior, I'd like one like this as I live in the country so thing get scratched and messy, plus it's not trying to be a new 911 if you know what I mean.
I bought my 1999 C4 6speed 18” turbo style alloys Sunroof Sport back seats Miltec exhaust. Blk paint Grey interior Love this car. Bore score clear certificated. Trying to ignore the chatter on socials and forums about IMS. Do love it though dream car 911 as a boy. Can’t afford an air cooled. This is still a very good 911 and think many people are beginning to realise that now.
Hi Ben. I was a long time reader of CAR, finally giving it up as pricing in the States climbed as my interest in new cars waned. I even had a few of my Ltrs to the Ed. printed. I've still got those editions as well as a few other choice ones (50 years of the 911, and 50 years of CAR.) I recently started looking at used Porsches as a more usable alternative to my S2000, and have settled on a 996. Binging on RU-vid 996 videos I was overjoyed to find your level-headed assessments. While their prices are climbing over here so are those of the S2K so I'm optimistic I'll be able to pull this one off and have a few bucks left for the IMS fix.
That’s cool. A large number of cars have already had the ISM done and I suspect it’ll be cheaper to buy one done than pay for the work after. Hope you find a good one
Enjoyable review, thanks for sharing. I will be looking for a 996.2 C2 (manual) in the new year, a big trade up from my 182! Currently doing my research and hopefully one of the UK specialists may have the spec I desire when the time comes.
Hi Martin, I'm budgeting for a gen 2 996 C2, I'd be more interested in a sorted car than particular specs. Not fussed about sunroof, aero kit etc. Seal Grey or Arctic Silver with black or blue interior would be a preference but not essential. It'll probably be next Spring when I'll be looking to purchase.
Hi Ben, Thanks for a great video...Very slick production too! I love the sound of the Dansk exhaust you have installedI. I need a new set of mufflers, so can you tell me which model you bought please. Please keep posting content of any mods you do to the car.
Do be careful with the older Dansk boxes though as the flexi/corrugated section fail often......they have supposedly redesigned them now without this problematic section
Used to have one, such a great car. The only reason i got rid of it (Swapped it for a AMG)....was because i couldn't fit the fold up bikes in the back when i took it to Le Mans lol.
Love the 996 I have the exact same interior and exterior combo as you including the Dansk exhaust but with the tiptronic instead. Interestingly my steering wheel is the older 4-spoke instead of the 3-spoke. Could it be that the early 1999 production cars came with 4-spoke and the late 1999 came with 3?
Great overview Berry, you honestly enjoy the drive more in a c2 vs a 996 turbo? What Navi do u have, I’d like to install the it when I get my 996. No IMS issues?
Steering wheel and the the key are on the wrong side LOL. Personal the 997 is nicer to drive and look at but the price goes up fast. 966 looks to much like the first model Boxster 986 in the front to be stunning and does not impress for that reason. Thanks for the show, enjoy yr 966 as every Porsche is special from 924 to the 992.
Hello do you feel the lack of a limited slip differential when you want to maintain a powerslide? Is it progresive when sideways like an M3 E46 for example or abrupt due to heavy tail? Thanks
Thank you for the update! What tires do you have? I hear the spongy brake feel can be fixed by installing the 997 master cylinder. Haven’t tried it myself though, just got used to it.
@@benbarrycars7628 thanks for filming and writing 😉 By the way, I’m wondering if this base Carrera would beat contemporary E46 M3 like 992 beat M4 in Car Magazine’s video the other day. What’s your take on this?
I have a 2003 996 C4 and am continually driven mad by the squeaks and rattles from the dash and interior which really impact the experience. Have I just got a bad one?
