As an American Living in England who is also on RU-vid, I decided to share reasons why I love the UK. But these are not necessarily the BIGGEST reasons I love the UK. For those reasons, see my Video Series called "Britain Love Stories" where I tell all kinds of things I love about Brtain:

This video talks about some of the more obscure reasons why living here the past few months has been so great... things I hadn't thought about until now. As an American married to an English man, I have been to Britain many many times. But each time I discover new things I love!

Floridian living in the UK here, 6.5 years now, can't belive how quick it's flown by! Not to far from you either - Bristol! Everything you say is so accurate, there are just so many things to love about living in this country. Thanks for the great content :)

The UK’s reputation for bad food was due to American soldiers posted here during the war when rationing was heavy. Coming from a country without rationing, of course the food here would seem to be inferior on some level. This continued until British farming recovered in the 50’s. Brit food has always been great; a lot of ‘American’ food such as apple pie originated here…

@@Diamondmine212 Yes that's true Vivienne, but the British people were at their healthiest due to rationing, as each family was issued with enough nutritional food to keep them fit and healthy. Since then, we have an obesity epidemic and Britain has become the child obesity capital of Europe.

My husband and I both grew up with the same British recipe for cooking vegetables (back when people ate vegetables). "Drown in heaps of water then boil until grey". British ancestry is a curse.

@@Rottnwoman I'm sorry to hear that your British mother was such a bad cook Sue, but don't assume everyone else's mother was too. My mother cooked excellent and varied English food each day from scratch. Being born English was a blessing, and as Kipling once said, it's like winning the lottery of life.

Sadly, there have been school shootings, but they are extremely rare. Gun control in the UK is way better here than in many nations.....And the general "feel" among most UK people is that they don't like guns, and prefer them to be tightly controlled....

The UK having bad food is definitely a myth! It's fantastic! One of the reasons I moved here was because of the dairy, meats and produce!! I've really enjoyed learning and baking UK specific desserts! I have a sticky toffee pudding and custard recipe coming up soon! I hope you have a wonderful weekend, Dara!! 😻😻

Good idea having STP with custard! I don't usually eat it that way because my hubs Ian doesn't love custard... but in my STP video the Britons commented many times about liking custard on their STP!

@@MagentaOtterTravels - Custard is a great accompaniment, as is double cream or ice cream! However STP is great just by itself! The Raymond Blanc restaurant we visited served theirs with crème fraîche, which was ... okay! 😹😹

@@BlackCatKitchen My husband is a big ice cream fan, and the toffee sauce does go very well with ice cream, so that’s how we always have it. But, I do want to try it with custard next summer, as well as clotted cream!

Regarding the NHS - if you needed emergency care (and I hope you never do) then it would be free to you regardless of the care needed. When you hear stories of people not being able to afford an ambulance in the US despite being very unwell it is sobering.

@@MagentaOtterTravels I don’t know your particular situation but in general for Americans - if you became a UK resident before April 2015 you can register with the NHS, if you moved here after that you have to pay the NHS surcharge as part of your visa application, and then you can register.

@Harry Old and so speaks someone who has no clue as to the cost of medical treatment and insurance in the USA. Look up how much the insurance is in the US Harry. The cost is frightening, way more than the cost of going private in the UK.

1st of all, the NHS will treat anyone turning up in A&E (ER) no matter where you come from. If you are on a residents visa (ie through marriage or family or simply for the time you’ve been here on a working visa and elibigle for residency) you can fully use the NHS - since 2014 you’ve had to pay the $500 NHS surchage with the visa to try and stop so many people coming to the UK for free NHS treatment

I would definitely go directly to A&E for any emergency or life-threatening situation. But otherwise, I probably have to pay... since I will only be living in the UK for 3 months at a time and not working there.

About walkability - I live in Manchester and it's the same here. I live in a 'suburb' five miles from the city centre and I have shops, schools, chemists, a health centre and loads of cafés and restaurants etc all within a few minutes walk. There is a bus stop at each end of my road and I'm only ten minutes walk from a tram stop. The thing is though that the place I live in used to be a village and can be found on maps a couple of hundred years old. As Manchester grew it took in lots of former villages which all had their own facilities and centres. This is the same as London. It's a big city but historically a patchwork of former villages and towns. Because we are used to each area having its own shops and conveniences we now expect it. When new houses are built people are keen to know when new schools, clinics, shops etc will be built to serve the new houses. It's not presumed you'll just drive somewhere.

Yes, I absolutely ADORE the walkability! If or when we move from Cheltenham, I definitely want to be somewhere walkable that I can walk (or possibly bike) to all the things I need. Cheltenham is the same... villages on the outskirts of town have now been absorbed into Cheltenham. But they are each a lovely community in its own right. Thanks so much for your comment, Barry! The wonderful thing about living in the UK, is that having Europe on our doorstep, this helps us to try our best with food quality and variety. It helps bring out the best in British, but to also compliment all that we have with the best of European and commonwealth foods too - we're very fortunate. I did have a moment through video where I was transported to the US, and wondering what two jugs of water might look like.

I agree that there is a lot of continental and global influence on British cuisine these days. I had a wonderful afternoon tea in Cheltenham that included Italian and French foods. And of course, I'm obsessed with halloumi... it seems to be on every menu and is always delicious!

Dara, my sister makes the most amazing sticky toffee pudding and when I fly home to England from NJ for Christmas every year she makes two, because it’s everybody’s favourite pudding!! It’s nice to hear you like the food in England, because quite a lot of Americans have told me they don’t like the food in England and I always ask if they ate at MacDonalds 🤷🏻‍♀️ 😆

In the late 90s there was a morning news article about an American family who had come to the UK on holiday with their early teen daughters. They had brought all their own American cereals as they had been told the Brits ate squirrel for breakfast. They were dumbfounded to see McD, Burger King, Hard Rock Cafe and high end restaurants etc. Someone didn't do their research! As an aside, my wife and I thought it so funny that having squirrel (cereal) has come into the family vocabulary. Keep up the good work.

Hi, Dara. It's been a long time since I've been able to watch one of your videos. Hope you're well! Having lived there myself many years ago, I mostly agree with the NHS. I didn't qualify for the NHS either because I'm an American but the one time I went (and paid for myself), they definitely didn't rush you in and out. The walking thing, I also enjoyed that for the most part. Sometimes, I just wanted to be lazy and drive even though we lived just over a mile from town. And I do love the selection at the grocery stores and the prices! I saved more money in groceries while living there. Also, on my list of top 6 things, the history. Since I have a degree in History, I spent a lot of time closely examining every pub, building, and church I went into. And boy, do I miss pub grub! Desserts? Not so much. I don't have a big sweet tooth, but I do like bread pudding. :-)

I agree! The tap water in our area of Texas is nasty... most of the year it tastes really bad! So we are glad to have nice tasting water here in Britain for a while ;-)

Water in the UK is drinkable but it varies from soft to hard water . The difference is you might get a bit of chalk in the bottom of your kettle or cup. The cheap way to solve this is buy a filter jug . You don’t need to buy bottled water unless your in to carbonated water

@@karensimpson4869 Can't get a decent brew in South of England cuss of the water so if I visit my Gran I do take bottled water filled from my tap in Edinburgh. Sounds daft but I transport about 10 litres of tap water 450 miles for a better cup of tea.

Thank you so much for your comment! I do love Britain, and I also love the US. Each place has their quirks, but they are also wonderful places to live. Interesting about the tapwater law. Other people have mentioned that as well. It’s a good thing, as I’ve definitely been to restaurants in continental Europe where you are forced to buy expensive bottled water!

Green is the most relaxing colour and the UK specialises in producing every living variety plantwise. Have you visited the National Arboretum at Westonbirt, not that far from Cheltenham. 'This royal throne of kings, this sceptred isle, this earth of majesty, this seat of Mars, this other Eden, demi paradise, this fortress built by nature against infection and the hand of war, this happy breed of men , this little world, this precious stone set in the silver sea, which serves it in the office of a wall, or as a moat defensive to a house, against the envy of less happier lands, ---------------- this blessed plot, this realm, this England'.

It’s always good to do a soul search about experiences, especially when they differ from country culture to country culture. Lifestyles influence how we experience ‘same but different’ moments. In New Zealand we have ‘dairies’ , that which you call convenience stores. The local corner store so to soeak. Open early to late and everything from sliced bread to toilet cleaner! Here in the 🇳🇱 we don’t have that facility. Being a small country, most things are within walking distance. And a 4 hour drive will get me to Paris. Love the saying:double cream gives double chins. Desserts are a must but I can easily not have the cream. Great summing up Dara. Have been loving your videos and the sharing of your time in Britian. 💕🇳🇱🙋🏼‍♀️🇳🇿

Love this video you are so articulate! I read an article about food deserts in the US, people living in poor areas that don't have access to supermarkets!

Well you are so kind! Thank you very much! Yes, food deserts are a problem. In urban areas there are not nice big supermarkets, and the small supermarkets often don't have good produce (fruit & veg)... and the ones that do have it priced quite high. So for a family who is struggling financially, it is much cheaper to eat fast food and processed packaged food than to eat healthy fresh foods. Isn't that awful?

The bland or bad food reputation was a thing in the 40s and 50s beacause of wartime...many american GIs of course experienced this and took that home... it was really bad to get any food let alone good food.rationing didnt finish till 1953 food generally was scarce it took the onslaughr of the 60s and opening up of travel.the jet age to see new foods and ideas coming back to the table in uk homes...then imigration from India italy and other countries to really start the flood of varieties of foods now of course you can get anything from anywhere And brits have a wider palate range than ever in history.

Thanks for the context. I agree that wartime rations (Ian's dad talks about not being able to get sugar) definitely made cuisine difficult for a while. But it was wartime, and a LOT of things were difficult! As you say, now there is a wide range of culinary options. And the focus on local fruits, veg and meats make for some really wonderful dining. Because I'm a foodie, you will be seeign LOADS of delicious meals I have eaten in Britain this summer if you watch the upcoming videos!

makes so much sense! I'd always heard that food there was bland, but my experience was always the opposite so I didn't get where that came from. It's funny how generalizations just keep getting repeated, even long after the basis for them is completely changed.

@@MagentaOtterTravels sugar was one of the last things come off rationing in 1953, I think a lot of Americans would be shocked at the war time rations were, incidentally it was considered the time when the British had the most healthy diet as potatoes and veg weren’t rationed.

My wife - Ex USAF. NY born of Sicilian lineage. Raised in FL from the age of 8. We married 35 years ago, 4 of which we spent in CA and FL. She could not wait to get back to the UK - I concurred and we have now lived on the Isle of Wight for 30 years. She is now a British citizen and says apart from holidays she would never dream of returning to the US. I wonder how much having a grandchild contributes to that? We would not swap what we currently enjoy with anyone, anywhere. Horses for courses and we have found our beautfiufl little final destination here on the Island. She is a long way from being the only N. American settler on the Island, every now and again we bump into yet another. We grow our own rhubarb BTW. Happy to hear you like our feisty little group of islands - Cheltenham is a town I know and you have chosen well, lovely gentle scenery and an air of gentility in the town itself. Welcome.

I love my home country and love my friends and family, but there are so many things I deeply love about Britain as well. Yes, we grew so much fonder of Cheltenham the more we got to know it this past summer! We chose the location for convenience to family and transit, but it has turned out to be a delight for many reasons.

That's very refreshing to hear about your positive experiences of the NHS. Being a Brit and now living in America, I have encountered similar experiences. Doctors in the US are very keen to prescribe medication, but I sometimes worry that this is not always the best way forward, and that things are driven by the big pharmaceutical companies. I have found it easier and quicker to get an appointment in the US. I still don't understand medical insurance, lol!!

Good reasons all to love the UK. And as others have touched on, it's easy for us to take them for granted. I always think though, when there's talk of 'free health care', if non Brits understand it's a misnomer. We pay a percentage of our salaries to cover it, it's called National Insurance. It's a direct deduction, and very manageable. Most people only look at the bottom line of their pay packets (so to speak) so you don't even notice it. And it avoids all that stress, and particularly worries about possible bankruptcy we hear of across the water if you take ill. You gotta love the NHS :)

Hopefully people understand that it is not "free" in the sense you never contribute to it's cost. Definitely countries with socialised medicine and subsidised university have higher taxes. But most of them are grateful for the system. Unfortunately, this is a VERY polarising issue in the USA. I'm bracing myself for hateful comments ;-)

You see vids of normal, ordinary americans who seem horrified at the thought of universal health care, talking like it's some 'Commie Plot', or their other bugbear, 'socialism'... Half the time i don't think they even understand these terms. What greater good could a country do for its citizens than try and make/keep them all as healthy as possible.

While London isn't really like that, we have met the friendliest people wandering round tiny British villages. But then again, we probably talk to them first ;-) Ian adores Clam Chowder too! Doctors in this country can be really good. I remember last year I went with depression, and it was the start of Covid so they were quite busy, and I thought my problem was trivial and they'd just say yeah, you've got depression, heres some tablets, but she sat me down and really listened like she was a councillor. She tried to help me get to the root of the problem. I was quite taken aback ,

Wow, I am so glad to hear that! Yes, mental health concerns have become a huge issue as EVERYONE has had their mental stability tested during the last two years! I'm really happy that they took it seriously. Also, the nice thing during the lockdowns is that many providers have offered mental health counseling over telephone or video chat, so that patients could still have access.

If you like Gardens, visit Wrest Park in Bedfordshire. Its a half reconstructed Victorian garden, half original 17th century garden, with big pavillions, avenues of trees, continental style canal basins, cottage gardens, formal gardens, statues, woodlands with wonderful clearings filled with statues etc. Its like going back in time to Baroque France.

On tap water: you are so right about the water and how we get a carafe/jug/bottle so that we don't need someone to keep topping us up (or forget to do so), And tap water in the UK is quite drinkable. In the US, tap water is so heavily chlorinated it's pretty much undrinkable.

I grew up in Cheltenham, and after many years am in Bromyard Herefordshire, so so slightly West and North of you. Cheltenham is very food orientated, but moving West food qualities I say improve in quality, taste and culture. Herefordshire is the undiscovered wonder of England at the moment - where the Cotswolds were 40 years ago. Keep exploring we have so much more to discover.

I have spent 29 years visiting Hereford EXTENSIVELY. Once or twice a year. We adore Ledbury, Bromyard, and Hereford city. In fact, one of my favourite chippies is Shun Fat in Bromyard! Hopefully that will give me enough street cred in your eyes that you'll sub and stick around for future vids ;-)

I grew up in the Chicago suburbs. We had lovely rich, dark soil that was perfect for growing rhubarb. We grew it in our back garden every year, it was delicious in pies! My mum wasn't the best cook (she despised cooking) but she made delicious pies! I've been hooked ever since. But in general rhubarb is MUCH more common in the UK than the US. We are back in Texas now, and Ian had to buy some rhubarb last week for my birthday pie. The cashier at the supermarket didn't know what it was! She said "is this celery?" hahaha

I love everything you mentioned and as a British expat living in Canada, it is nice to be able to get most of these things at the local supermarket. BTW clotted cream is one of the best forms of full fat you can eat. It does not cause you to get fat or clog your arteries but sugar and carbs will. I find British processed foods have far less sugar than similar products in North America. I make my own sticky toffee pudding 😋

OK, I've never heard the expression "quids in"... that's a new one for me! Being older has plenty of drawbacks, but having time and a bit more money to travel are two HUGE blessings! We hope to stay healthy enough to spend our summers in Britain for many many years. Ian's family is there, and I've now made loads of friends in the UK. Plus, all our American family and friends want to come visit us when we are there! So hopefully travel restrictions will allow that in future summers. Thanks for your comment! @@MagentaOtterTravels The term "Quids In" is an old expression for being in a good, or winning financial position, you've come out better off than expected, or others may have done. Quid is an old slang term for our £ unit of money. You may hear someone say for example,..."I've just put twenty quid in the car", meaning they've put £20 worth of fuel in it. Or " I've lost ten quid on a nag" ... the horse they bet £10 on in a race, didn't win.

So pleased that you love this country, and my hometown of Cheltenham, so much. I have travelled quite a lot. Been to the States twice, east and west. Many years ago lived in colonial Africa. Been to most countries in Europe. I have lived in many other parts of England too. I love this country and wouldn't live anywhere else, in spite of its faults. My second choice would be Spain. Love the climate and nice people.

There is plenty of the old Spain left and I love Madrid and Seville. What about the perfect climate and the lovely Spanish food! It is a big country. I also love the islands. Loved your video, hope you continue to have many more nice experiences in this part of the world. ^_^ You could try a trip past Gloucester to the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley, places like Chepstow, Tintern, Monmouth and the Forest of Dean are very pretty and have a nice 'community feel'. Places like Puzzlewood have hosted many movie scenes from the likes of Harry Potter, Star Wars and many more. :)

Hi Dara. Love your understanding of the differences between both sides of the pond! Tap Water. I live south of the Rhondda Valley and our tap water traditionally comes from the Taf Fechan reservoir in the Brecon Beacons. It’s available from the shops but I’ve already paid for my tap water, why buy bottles at 60p per litre? I do buy sparkling water to add to squash as I’m not a tea or coffee drinker.

Welsh water from the reservoirs is excellent. I'm pretty sure that's what we're getting in Cheltenham. I noticed a big difference when we went to London. There the taste of the water was almost as bad as it is in Texas.

You wouldn't be rushed in and out of the doctor's surgery if you're paying. The NHS is excellent in some cases and dreadful in others. I can vouch for that. We need to incentivise the providers by allowing the consumers to choose the hospitals that will treat them, this works very well in France and Spain. We must go where we are sent and cross our fingers.

i absolutely love england! my bf is british and i went to go see him for 3 months this summer, just came back last month and i just love how everything is and how it all looks.. everything is so close to each other, like you said shops are so close! whereas where i live in california in san jose it takes me 30-40 min to even get to a grocery store by walking. my bf lives in a high street and literally everything imaginable is on the same exact street, whether it be a bunch of different grocery stores, (iceland, tesco) theres premiere, a bunch of restaurants, a hair salon, nail salon, dentist, pharmacy, a gas station, etc. honestly just everything! it feels unreal since i was never used to anything like that at all. best of all, the beach is only like a 5 minute walk away! im really planning on settling down in a few years with him and moving to england :-) the only thing that was hard to get through is how much smaller everything is, and im not complaining i love small shops rather than big ones, but the streets, cars, houses, everything is so much smaller! i love how the houses look, the brick style, but there are many houses that are pinned together as one building, i think that's the only thing that i dont really like.

So nice to meet you! We spent 3 months in England as well. And the similarities don't stop there... my hubby grew up in the San Jose area (after emigrating from England) and I attended university in the area. California in general is very much a car culture, and you have to drive drive drive to everything. We also lived in Los Angeles for several years. I love the walkability of Britain. When you say the beach was 5 minutes away, I'm curious what county? We have visited and done vlogs in Devon and Cornwall and Northumberland. Looking forward to vlogging from several other places next summer! I agree with you about the size of things. Sometimes small is better, but sometimes it's an adjustment when you are used to big American things (like clothes washers and tumble dryers). As for flats being close together, that is true in some areas of England more than others. We actually live in a flat that is part of a converted old Edwardian house. Ha-ha - 'houses pinned together as one building' is a charming way to describe terraced houses! BUT with most of the Victorian 2-up, 2-down terraces (i.e. slums) now gone, you will find that most of the remaining terraces are Edwardian, very substantial, very well-built, and if they are cred for and have lots of original features (fireplaces, stained glass, timber floorboards etc) they are worth - in London - upward of £1m!

Some parts of the US know more about rhubarb than others. I grew up in Illinois, and we always grew it in the backyard. My mother made rhubarb pie. But this past summer when I lived in England, I really loved making and eating rhubarb crumble! It was so delicious! Can’t wait for summer to come again! Thanks so much for watching and commenting! Great video about your time here; unfortunately we’re having a below average Summer this year, weather wise. Sticky toffee pudding in not such a “classic” dessert as it wasn’t invented until the 1940’s, recent, for the U.K. but it only began to be better known from the 1990’s. Hopefully you’re also trying real classic desserts such as Jam Roly Poly, Spotted Dick, Bread & Butter pudding, Apple & Rhubarb Cobbler, Lemon Meringue Pie, Chocolate Sponge with Chocolate Custard etc.

Did you not hear me mention the rhubarb crumble addiction I developed this summer? HAHA... Yes, we have also enjoyed many Bread & Butter puddings this summer. Those are our favourites to have at home. But honestly I can't pass up an STP at a pub... I think the weather has been pretty good! As you will see in the videos to be published the next several months, I was able to get some lovely photos and video footage on plenty of sunny days with blue skies ;-) Gotta have some rain to keep everything green! And gotta have a few days of sweltering temps so we can moan about not having aircon!

@@MagentaOtterTravels I still think you need to experience more types of Jam Roly Poly and Spotted Dick served with lashings of hot custard as well as STP. A childhood favourite was also Chocolate Sponge with Chocolate Custard . You can also try readymade versions of these in the freezer sections, made by “Aunt Bessie” who also make great frozen Yorkshire puddings too !

@@MagentaOtterTravels Also at a large Tesco or other Supermarket the aisle with custard and creamed rice etc. will have Mr Kipling or other own brand non chilled sponge puddings that only need 40 seconds in the microwave. I like the Lemon ,Raspberry, Syrup, Chocolate and STP flavours. Give them a go !

OMG you’ve just listed a whole load of puddings I love (except for chocolate custard) which they just don’t have here in the US. Plus, when it comes to desserts here in the US I’m not a true fan. Although, cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory is one thing I do actually like and am happy to eat as my main course so as to be able to actually eat it all, as the portions here are massive and there’s no way I could eat a main meal and then have room for pudding afterwards.

We live just next to a bakery and the supermarket is just 500 meters away as are the butcher, more bakeries, and other shops.... I get it, when you say that it is so great when store are in a walkable distance. 💯

First of all, you get brownie points for correctly using the adjective bloody. haha Yes, it has been much cooler here in Cheltenham than Dallas. We had about 3 days of unbearable heat that was only a challenge because there is no a/c. But other than that, our thick stone/plaster walls keep the inside of buildings pretty cool. I'm usually wearing my hoodie inside the house all the time! I wore shorts about 4 days the whole summer. So, yes when I get back home to Texas it is going to be MUCH hotter!

My eldest sister June married a WW2 US army officer from Louisiana. I took our mother on a visit in the 1970s and recall the surprise from the family there when I mentioned taking a walk into the local town - Napoleonville. But the climate and a wish to enjoy the local scenery seemed good enough reasons. And so it proved. But the#way everything was so "spread out" and separate did make an impression when compared with the much smaller, closer connected communities found here in England. Space there seemed almost without limit to me.

I agree that there is a lot of wide open spaces in the rural areas of the states! You can certainly tell there is a French influence in Louisiana,... with the town named Napoleonville! haha One thing I love in both countries is that the small villages can have a wonderful "community" feel that you don't have in larger cities. Glad that you love our country so much and that you are enjoying it. Our food is amazing and we have so many great restaurants and pubs. I've been to America where I enjoyed the steaks but the one dish I do miss a lot was Key Lime Pie especially at the restaurant by the seven mile bridge on the way to Key West my absolute favourite place in Florida. My favourite place that I love in the UK is Cornwall where everything is perfect like the scenery, people, food, drink, towns, villages and the beaches. Thanks so much for your comment! There ARE so many great pubs and restaurants! That is the danger of having a RU-vid channel and filming a series on the Cotswolds... we felt like we HAD to try every nice restaurant and delicious pub we could find! haha You are correct, Key Lime Pie is one of the best American desserts! I even have a video on my channel of my super easy KLP recipe! But... I"m afraid some of the ingredients would be hard to buy or replicate in the UK. I adore Cornwall as well. We spent 3 weeks travelling the West Country last year. I did a vlog of all our adventures there. This is interesting, not just because I live in a village near Cheltenham, but it's unusual for ANYONE to be praising British food! Yes, the food scene here has changed massively for the better in the last 50 years....in an ideal world all music would be from Texas / southern US and all the scenery and pubs/pub-grub would be Anglo - Celtic (a term I prefer to 'UK', 'Britain' etc.) Dara, I would like to hear you compare my hometown -Manchester - to Dallas or another big US city so......get on it! And well-done for not mentioning bloody London once! (at least not in this video).

The UK did/does have a bit of a reputation for bad food. I think you will find that this largely stems from wartime rationing. A lot of kids grew up on rations, and that sort of thing sticks with you for life.

I was a "war baby" and grew up during the late 40s and early 50s, clearly remembering the ration books in use for so many years following WW2. Mind you, I doubt if the frugal diet did me any harm - I'm in my 78th year and feeling pretty good, thanks! For years I preferred margarine to butter and being careful with diet remains a habit in my later life.

Love this breakdown of UK vs. the US. Unless you go to a WAWA or Buckeyes most convenience store food is not very good. We love walking to markets every few days go pick up food now that we are overseas. We went to the dentist for cleaning in Turkey and it was less than co pays would be in the US.

Madam, if you regulalry shop at Tesco Express you are regulalry being taken for a ride. I reccommend you find a nearby Aldi or Lidl. The quality of the food is at least as good as that sold at Tesco Express but often at not much more than half the price.

I do love ALDI but if I were to go there someone would need to take me for a ride. You see, I don’t drive when I’m in Britain, and I can walk 100 yards away to the Tesco. It may be a little bit more expensive, but it is still way less expensive than groceries in the US! Excellent question! Now I'm going to give you a lousy answer: it depends. I think of a block being the distance between 2 intersections (in a grid pattern of streets being laid out). But obviously my little Dallas suburb has blocks of a very different distance than a city block in Manhattan. So I guess it is variable. And if you asked another American, they might give you a distance like 100 yards or something.

The green, green grass that you like, produces another benefit you may have overlooked. Dairy products - clotted cream, cheeses, butter, yoghurt, etc.etc. should be good. Also lamb, and Welsh lamb is exported to the US.

The reputation for poor food in the U.K. was well deserved many decades ago. Pubs especially might offer you a bland cheese sandwich or similar and even those with restaurants were not up to much. Moving on over the past couple of decades food started to improve dramatically and is overall far better than most places in the U.S. even though the ubiquitous fast food chains are everhere there´s nearly always an alternative. London today has the reputation of the greatest variety of World foods of any city in the World and is a foodies heaven. How times have changed.

I agree! In the 30 years I've been eating "pub grub" I have seen a huge change. I remember the first time I ate baked brie with cranberry sauce at a little country pub... it has all been better ever since! London is a foodie heaven for sure! My 2nd home of Cheltenham is not bad either!!

I’ve been to lots of places in the US, east, west, north and south and everywhere I’ve been the tap water is absolutely terrible. Has a very strong taste of something or other. Awful. While here in Britain the tap water tastes the same as bottled water. The only difference is that bottled water can be kept in the fridge. Sometimes nice and cold water is best.

Hello Old Man! I don't believe I've met you before. Thanks for your comment, and welcome to my channel! As for American water, it is extremely variable. I've had good water in the Rocky Mountains. But here in North Texas it is AWFUL... like top 10 worst water in the country (I'm not making this up!). During the spring it tastes of algae from the local lakes. Really dreadful! So yes, I know what you mean! Of course, in England I live in Cheltenham... a town known for it's water! But these days, the regular tap water tastes good. Speaking of spa waters... I've been to Bath and tasted their spring water. Did NOT like that! But I drank 2 litres of Harrogate water on the plane back to Texas yesterday ;-)

Fill up the empty bottles with tap water and put them in the fridge. Duh. The tap water on LA is terrible and needs to go through a Brita filter. LA needs some reservoirs. Drought conditions and sprinklers going all day, watering the dead grass.

Great video! The parked cars had me laughing so hard as it is so true! I enjoy watching videos like this as being a Brit it is fascinating to see the UK from a different perspective. What do you think of our taps? One for hot one for cold? Most Americans I’ve met always ask about it. We grate the cheese as it’s most likely fresh cheese so doing that gives it a creamier, fresher taste! It’s all about taste! :)

Suggest you look at Keto cooking. There are sugar substitutes (Erythritol) and flour substitutes (Almond flour), which have extremely low GI loading. Rhubarb is perfectly acceptable Keto food.

ive spent a lot of time in the usa ... i personally would describe CVS as a "drug store" that also sells food or groceries as a secondary service, CVS is far more in comparison to our "Boots" pharmacy stores than a Tesco Express, Tesco express id personally say is like a mini/neighborhood Walmart or Winn Dixie, but thank you for the wonderful video, glad you love it here !!

I totally agree! Boots is like CVS. Tesco Express is kind of like 7 Eleven... except 7 Eleven sells gross food (sorry!). There aren't a lot of big supermarkets that do smaller versions here in the states. But it is super common in Britain! Tesco, Sainsburys, M&S, even Waitrose... by the time we get back to Cheltenham next summer there will be a min Waitrose waiting for us to give them our money ;-) Thanks SO much for your comment!
