Why I'm changing the 590 SS Cam on the Stage 4 Custom Road Glide Build 

Hey Danny Blockhead did the 590 cam in Goldzilla and I think he changed it as well for the same reason. I agree it is your money and you should spend it in a way that makes you happy. My advise let all the cry baby haters have there crying just don't reply comment or make vlogs about it that only gives them attention and drives them to keep Cumming at you, have a good one and I can't wait to see which cam you go with next.

Danny I live in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. I've been riding since I was 11. I am now 67 years old. My current bike is a 2008 Harley-Davidson Dyna Glide Low Rider, FXDL, that I bought brand new. It's now 14 years old. The only modifications to my 96 Twin Cam Motor is a Stage 1 Kit, ThunderMax fuel management system/tuner, and Vance & Hines pipes. I did the modifications when the Bike was new. I love this bike. This Dyna is the best handling & riding Harley I have owned. I, like you, get my enjoyment from riding. Hi Danny, Problem with personalities, everyones got one. Problem with You Tube, is everyones an armchair critic.. The dills are the ones that want to tell you how to do things, or offer their opinions of your life and what, how you should live it. Your personality is yours. I watch your channel a bit. Some things I like, some things irritate me, but its not my place to tell you how to live. You can DO anything you like with yur money. You earnt it, you've paid your way so what you do with it is your choice, not those YT critics that don't have a life, or your life.. Hats off to you. Life's full of experiences and learning. How one learns is individual to that person. Some can process auditory instructions, some process written instructions, some not at all and some get it by having hands on instructions. You get it by doing it. It may not be mainstream, but its an identified process. Are you normal ?? Thats debatable as, whats normal ?? Everyones different. Worked at a US Harley dealer for 30 years. It’s your money it’s your choice. I love customers like you especially when they’re not afraid to pay twice. We had one guy the bike wouldn’t even make it off the lift and he would change his mind on stuff after the parts were installed.

I always thank the haters/trolls/ know-it-alls for helping the RU-vid algorithm give my channel a bit of a lift. Well, I’ve been following your channel now for a long time, when you were doing real estate videos. I had bikes years ago and had a long break and watching you inspired me to get back in the saddle. I can’t afford anything flash it’s a 12 year old triumph tiger 1050s. And I try to get away on mini adventures once a year. From 🇬🇧 last year did the Scotland NC500. 1490 miles over 5 days. Away what I’m trying to say is spend YOUR money make more Harley Videos and don’t listen to others. Keep up the great work love it. 👍 What ever happened to the R1….🤔

I do like the way Geelong HD is like what our (USA) HD dealers 'used' to be like. You could walk into the shop and talk to the techs and get advice on things to do or change on your bike. But now it's just a business. There's a barrier between the showroom and the shop called the service manager and insurance requirements.

There's always going to be the envious the jealous and the haters you need not justify yourself or your lifestyle to them Danny they will never change as we the true and loyal motorcyclist/biker will never change. I've been in the saddle for 45 + yrs but biking has been in my blood for 57yrs, we are addicts that can not overdose but most certainly under dose. I have an 86 1340 FLSTC, 05 1450 FLHTC, 2015 1200 BMW GSA and a 2017 1730 Victory Highball... like most bikers I have the same addiction. I want to thank you Danny, Parry and Veronica for helping to keep me sane over the year and three when during this day and age there were times I was unable to saddle up to ride and survive. Those who haven't experienced what has to happen to start accumulating clean time just don't understand. Choosing to pay $30,000.00 over MSRP for my C8 is much better than suicide! My 2017 FLHRXS led me to your channel a few years ago. Awesome adventures for sure! Your experience is saving me $10,000.00 for 131 crate engine. My 107 with stage 4 is way more than I can regularly enjoy! Thanks for the continued content!

I have been a follower of your channel for a while now. I found you when you did the India trip. I don't comment much anymore due to the fact that you have so many followers now. I just want you to know I love it all. You make me laugh and sometimes you make me cry. You keep being you and anybody that doesn't like that can watch another channel. In the grand scheme of things, installing and changing cams is not particularly expensive anyway. And, your advice is excellent. Getting the right cam is all about honestly considering what riding you personally do, and how you do it. Because while cams can (and do) increase power and torque, they are mostly about determining WHERE in your rev-range that power comes on, and how 'spikey' (high power for a narrow period) or 'flat' (decent power for a longer period) that power is applied. Good on you for taking the time to discuss it.

I am glad you chose the cam you did for this experiment. As someone who is in the market to upgrade cams soon, I am glad to see that bigger is not always better. I was leaning towards the larger cam to get the thump and higher HP, I now see that will not work with my ride style - thanks to you sharing your experience with us. Peace.

It’s your money, you earned it. You deserve to spend it the way you want to. My now deceased dad and I went 50/50 on a Cessna 177 Cardinal a number of years ago. To some folks, we wasted our money, and they weren’t shy to share their opinions. To my dad and I, we had a blast, and put thousands of hours on that airplane. Money well spent as far as we were concerned.

Don’t ever let the haters tell you who you are or what you should do. Almost gave it all up 18 months sober & with 3 divorces. Felt something inside tell me to wait a while longer that my whole would change in ways I could not imagine. Three months later met the love of my life. 32 years this summer. Never give up, never give up hope, & keep on being your self for those of us who “get” you. PS partly because of you I am in the middle of possibly acquiring a classic 750 Atlas, nearly perfectly restored for best riding. Not getting any younger, want to do it one more time. Last one a 61 Dominator 99 SS dual open carb 600 cc street (cafe) racer. It was all that plus a sack of tacos!

I went with the factory cam that came with the Stage 4 kit and it works great for touring and all around riding. The techs asked how I was going to ride and went from there and they spent some time with me explaining many different ways to configure the build depending on what I was looking for. Going big just for numbers is not all ways the best option. Think about driving around a car built for a drag strip for everyday driving. They said don't do it without replacing the clutch. The factory clutch is not designed for these big bore builds. Check out Moonshine Harley Davidson on RU-vid for Big Bore builds and info. These guys are very knowledgeable.

You've heard the saying, " haters gonna hate". If it's not you they're sniping at, it's their kid, their wife, neighbor, boss, etc. It's just what they do. I look forward to every new video. Thanks for doing them.

If you change to a cam that’s for torque you’ll really enjoy the hell out of that. Great for 2 up and just all around I think. I like the torque aspect of it. Power in the bottom end is always good.

Hi Danny, understand your thoughts on some of the comments, and giving it the ‘Bird’ made me chuckle. I’m 61 and a bit and been riding since I was 16. One of my biggest regrets, is not getting a Harley until 5 year ago. Bought an 05 Softail Deluxe and now also run a Dyna Switchback. When I bought the Softail, I quickly became aware of the possible issues with cam chain tensioners on the early twin cam models, so decided to swap it out for the ‘Screaming Eagle’ hydraulic upgrade. I also decided to video my experience and share on RU-vid not from a super technician point of view but from a bloke in a shed perspective. I couldn’t believe some of the venomous comments I got about ‘what I did’ and ‘putting more money in the Harley coffers’. I decided not to bother after that, even though people still subscribe to my channel. I appreciate your tenacity, even though you are a little crazy at times. I can’t watch your videos when you completely abuse your bikes but I don’t bitch about it, I just wait until you get your sensible head on again………………..over the years you’ve shared with me, you’ve made me howl with laughter and cry at times, especially on the India trip…………I thank you for it all!!

Try the stock 131 cam that came with the kit. That will give you a good high/low cam perspective. Since the 590 is too much, see what you think of the stock one. If it’s too little, find the sweet spot in the middle. Keep it simple. I would really consider upgrading your clutch no matter what you decide to use. Good luck. Love the channel.

Hey Danny I see you as a guy who wears his heart on his sleeve. Never a problem if people understand that. You built an exciting bike and the adrenaline rush would be awesome. I rode a bike like that and it fixed my doldrums every time I rode it. Negative comments... I drove taxis on Saturday nights and 99% of passengers were great but that one a$$ wipe that wanted to fight you or argue the fare or threatened you would wreck my whole week. It took a couple of months to change my focus on the 99% ers who went out for a good time and came home the same way, made me feel a whole lot better. It made me create a saying. "If you don't like the feeling, change the thought". Happy to share a coffee with you, any time. By the way... I haven't read anything about the oil leak.

May need to look into getting an upgraded compensator also the stock ones cannot handle more power then the stock motor. They shatter usually shifting into third gear.

I like this side of you and wish you were like this all the time. I have PTST from over 30 years as a street cop in Canada. It appears that I was in the small percentile of Police Officers who took their oath seriously, I worked for the people, not the government. I don't like the way your Australian and New Zealand police act. When you show your mean side, verbally it tricks my PTST and want's it to stop. Getting on your realized decision about low torque and being able to tour reliable and getting better low end performance and better gas mileage, I'm building my bike to do the same thing. I'm 69 years old and bought my last bike for my 66th BD. I had the HD Ultras and wanted to go back to basics, I fell in love with the 2018 I chromed out Deluxe Soft Tail, I liked the Heritage, but I'm old school and the Deluxe had the look I loved. I bought and had installed all the touring additions, cruise control, windshield, front and rear crash bars, saddlebags, tour pack, a duel saddle seat. I plan to install the S&S oil pump and upgraded cam package, but I'm going with a TTS 100 low torque cam. It has low torque from 1000 RPM to 4000 RPM and is supposed to work better than stock at higher RPM as well. I'm happy going near the speed limit and just want to relax and smell the roses. I'm more of a tenter/camper than you and don't seek out motels/hotels. Enjoy your ride and make it the way you want it to be!

Hey Danny, there is some excellent advice here from Michael Thr33d with regards to his father's twin cam build by Protwin in Georgia. The guy who owns the workshop, Kevin Baxter has a RU-vid channel Baxter's Garage where he freely shares his extensive knowledge and experience in a language anyone can understand. At 69 and over the last few years I've learnt so much about my own bike from his videos. How to read spark plugs, what cams for a particular purpose and how to do your own builds. Even if you aren't hands on you'll understand your bike better. I could never afford to ship my engine over there for bulletproofing, but you can. The Skunkworks crank, billet clutch, Man O'war compensator and a Baker box would be a dream build. Good publicity for you both too. Good luck.

As long as you’re spending your own money, not hurting anyone else, not breaking too many laws 🤷🏻‍♂️ and having a darn good time, what’s the problem? I am no fan of Harley-Davidson's. Never have and I guess I never will be. However I do admire what they do. After traveling through central USA, I could see how great they were for long distance touring. They are fabulous. I do love this channel. I can feel how uncomfortable it must feel to have to over explain the rationale for doing what you do, when it’s really nobody’s business. I for one am very grateful for your videos - they have been so fun to watch over the pandemic and now I know that I’ll probably be more happy with a torque cam like the 475 in my Road Glide Special vs something like the 590. Hello, another great video. Great work done by all on the bike and if you don't try, you don't know! Love Harleys but never had one, or my licence for years. Last year with Covid, losing my job etc, I decided to make the move and passed my licence, the group I rode with and people I met definitely helped me through the difficult period, especially at 49 years of age. Bought a cheap TDM900 to learn but feel more confident now and am moving on to my first Harley, looking at a 2019 Forty-eight. Just wish I lived near HDG as the team seem such great people! Videos are great and really help to escape for a while and learn about bikes, happy to see that Gucci girl is now a Harley lady, a great trip and good to see Parry again, really laughed a lot which is great. As for people who are negative, don't listen to them. Unfortunately some people are just negative about everything, just spend time with those who help and and support you. Well done on the videos and thanks for the efforts which are greatly appreciated!

We all blow money on our passions, let the losers cry whatever they want, don't feel obligated to explain s*** to them. They are just miserable and want to make others feel the same way. You just came off the most incredible ride, and you shared it with the world, lots of us are hoping to see more in the future.

Mate you tell it how it is, I've ridden with you,trust me you know how to ride,you even commented to me that you didn't realise how far you could lean a Harley until you saw me lean mine round some bends on a poker run a few years ago, it was just my normal riding but you paid me a complement that humbled me , I wasn't showing off.just remember one thing when people banter or belittle you, WHEN THE CLUTCH DROPS ,THE BULLSHIT STOPS. Sometimes you pay for your education, which is fine. I've only recently discovered Million dollar Bogan. I knew about him but I hadn't checked out his channel until Shadetree Surgeon ended up with his bike in Florida. I started watching the Bolivian Death Road series trying to figure out how Shadetree got the Road King, but it still hasn't been explained . I didn't realize just how funny Danny was until I went back into the catalogue and started watching these earlier videos. The stuff with Collin and the boys at Geelong Harley Davidson cracks me up. Those guys are priceless.
