First of all it is well-known that journalism and private opinions in the public realm do not work the same there as in the “west”.. Second it is 100 percent obvious he is a foreigner and doesn’t speak the local language in case he needs to defend himself or communicate in the slightest and happens to be from a place going under serious geopolitical issues. And thirdly he happens to runs a media channel showcasing the places he visits and broadcasts it to the entire world via RU-vid which is *blocked* in China which has one of the worlds most comprehensive internet censorship regimes. These are all MORE than enough reason to feel anxiety about being there..

True, the cameras do give you a reassuring sense of safety in the streets - that said, I was monitored and stopped by police when I was at a festival in a town in Yunnan province, because they thought I was from Xinjiang. Thank goodness my friend speaks Chinese so he helped me out of the situation, otherwise I would have probably been questioned or detained. So, it's not always a perfect system.

Stop Gaslighting! Cameras won't hide how things really are! People have freedom to speak! We all know how things are! Only fools would belive your lies! The free people don't like to being wach all times! Who is the one who watch those who watch others! All those wrong doings! There is no right to do humans those things, no matter how much power you have! How about the common people who are hungry, the people who suffer, all innocent blood that have been shed! How do you sleep your night knowing all that! How heavy is the burden of corruption that makes you close your eyes! Explain that, you can't! The money won't do it! Generally, in China, you won't have any problems if you just mind your own business and don't try to cause trouble. There are instances in the west where that isn't true especially if you're the wrong ethnicity or color
@paul2609
@paul2609 Месяц назад
"There are instances in the west where that isn't true especially if you're the wrong ethnicity or color" That also happens especially in China, especially to black South African workers, I know a few of them and they got raided and kicked them out of the apartment, but for some reason they didn't question the white South African with them and let him stay even though they were all living and working together. This happened around 10-11 years ago. You won't see these kind of thing anymore because they already kicked all the minorities they don't want out, and hide any facts about it. So it's a little unfair to say that about the west when the discrimination is just as bad in China. The difference is in the west there are many people would step-in to help the person in trouble while in China they would rather stay out of it, because like you said " just mind your own business and don't try to cause trouble" especially if that means it affects their social credit score.

TBH, I would not agree that Bangkok is on the same par with Shanghai, except for its international influence... The city infra outside of the center area(even in most central parts) is not comparable to even most 3rd tier cities in China. In the night, it looks super busy and interesting when the neon lights are on, but in the day, you see wires entangled in a mess everywhere, stinky river branches that flow into Meinan river, super noisy, road conditions not good(but already quite good compared to many other south asian cities). After all, Thailand looks like a "paradise" for western people(especially men) to have some chill moments but from my perspective , it is a new reflection of "colonization", rich Thai people get richer by matching needs and providing service for tourists while poor people struggle or even compete to make ends meet(Massage/h is around 8 dollars while it can be as low as 6.5 dollars if there are several competitors on the same street). But in China, people feel confident and we don't need to do anything to cater to these needs from the non-local people I have been to most major cities in the world and I am very confident that Shanghai is among top 3 in the world in terms of most key factors to evaluate the competitiveness and livability of a city, we are living in the next level and Bangkok is absolute not, it is just a paradise for carnivals and for temporary visitors, so to speak It is hard to find a nice car in even Bangkok, like BMW 5 series or Mercedez E class are quite rare but are ubiquitous in Shanghai. An interesting fact, Many of the companies in Shanghai are offering the same salary as in Europe and Chinese people love to save money... If you go outside of Bangkok, you would probably end up being in tropical forests or beaches and nothing more, and it is so hard to reach since the trains are so infrequent and slow, in China, you can literally to most of the destinations you want by bullet train. BTW, HangZhou, which is another neighboring city of Shanghai ,is way more interesting and famous than SuZhou, be sure to check that out and spend 3-4 days over there. In China, the landscape is so various like in America, China has a lot to offer more than merely big cities. If you go to the west part of China, say ChengDu, and drive 2 hours west bound, you will be able to see some of the most elevated glaciers in the world. If you go South, say Hainan island, I would say you will feel very similar vibes and facilities as you would see in any other famous beach destinations in the world. If you go North in winter, you will see some of the most beautiful snow world like in Alaska. The list goes on... But in terms of variety of entertainment and the international vibe, Bangkok tops the world.

Great. Now that you're done talking, please go back to your factory and make some Nike shoes for me. Thais are good at massage, and Chinese are good at working in factories set up by the western countries. Who is happier, massage or factory? By the way, aren't there enough factories in China? Why is your country scattering numerous Chinese workers all over the developed countries of the world?

If you are a foreigner and you use your own roaming network, you can still access to all these western social media apps like Whatsapp, Facebook, RU-vid..etc. Microsoft apps can be used in China at all times without VPN, that's because they agree to put their servers in China, whereas the other social media apps are not willing. All countries require foreign social apps to have their servers installed locally for security reason. Thats what Tiktok did in US.

Hey Dany thanks for your amazing videos of China. As a Chinese I agree on your idea about the soft freedom in our society, I feel less strict social manners here in the air than in Japanese, Singaporean or maybe Korean societies. I think maybe that’s because we have a large population and everybody prefers to chill in his or her own way (and imagine those preferences multiple to 1.4 billion lol) . Chinese people and culture are super diverse and thus can be hard to define. Next time you gotta explore more places such as Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Xi’an and my home city Chongqing. They are all interesting cities that can represent China in different unique ways. Hope you enjoy your stay in Seoul:))

Have you ever thought about why Chinese people are reluctant to talk about politics with foreigners? Or why they don't like to talk about politics with white Europeans and Americans? It's because media outlets such as BBC and CNN have been conducting malicious interviews and editing interview content for decades. This has led Chinese people to be very cautious when it comes to discussing politics with these media outlets, making them reluctant to engage in relevant discussions with European Americans. In fact, if you are from the Middle East, Asia, Africa, or Latin America, Chinese people would not be so cautious. The reason why Chinese people are unwilling to discuss politics with Indians, Europeans, or Americans is because the media from these regions have been spreading rumors and slandering China for a long time.

Interesting to hear how these foreign tourists especially from the west talking about freedom in China. They always mess up political “freedom” with real freedom just like their media. London has really high cctv cameras per km2 which people hardly complain or mention it. In terms of daily life, China has more freedom like the west. Well, China is like a giant rapidly growing company. It offers lots of opportunities, great working environment, salary can be doubled in a short time, etc. The managers in all levels DO take advices from employees otherwise the company won't grow this fast, but you shouldn't expect that they want you to stand in the lobby shouting about how bad the managers/CEOs are. For employees, if a company offers great paycheck, nice working environement and a promising future, i doubt if any wants to stand in public or posts on company's website with harsh comments about the CEOs. For outsiders maybe criticizing their CEO is important, but for those employees who actually working there, not so much

Welcome to visit China again. China is like Middle-earth in The Lord of the Rings, with countless different ethnic groups and unique cultures. There are more than 30 different ethnic groups in Yunnan, countless mysterious virgin forests in Guizhou, and snow-capped mountains, deserts, and Zhongsha City in Xinjiang. There is a sea view like the Maldives. Your visit this time has only opened a small fragment of the world map of this mysterious world.

The subtitles on your video cannot be translated into the Chinese language. The reason may be that the wrong method or software was used when editing the video. In the previous video, it was no problem to choose Chinese simplified characters, but this time the subtitles are no longer visible in traditional Chinese characters. It is a pity that we cannot know the content of the words in this episode. 😅

Dany, I really enjoyed your China series. I recently travelled to Shanghai as well for the first time and had the same thoughts as you! Really liked it. I appreciate your honest content, can't watch those "the people are so nice, the food is amazing" people anymore. I have yet to go to a city where the people are not nice and yet to find a city where I can't eat any food I want lol. Anyway when you said Shanghai was a top 3-5 city for you I actually had the same thoughts after my trip. Before my trip my top 3 cities were Singapore, Bangkok, and Hong Kong, but after my trip I replaced Hong Kong with Shanghai. I think as someone in my late 20's Shanghai/Bangkok could be an interesting place to be and after passing 35, can't argue that Singapore would be a nice comfortable place to be based.

How i can tell if a Chinese friend is REALLY a friend. When they tell me the bad things about their country and especially the government. I had a CCP member in my company. We went bike ride through the city and he gave me the CCP's version of how great everything is. As we rode, I showed him the truth in a tactful way- 1 or more blocks from the tourist areas. The next day, he thanked me for showing him and enlightening him, and he shared what we did with the company. I never say the West is better, but I do show what it is REALLY like "behind the scenes." Typically really contrary to what information they are fed.

Your speech is contradictory. Diversity presupposes a large population. When you worry that a place with 1.4 billion people is not diverse enough, you have fallen into the multicultural trap created by the media
