After years of using the Canon 80D for both photo and video, I've finally decided to switch cameras!

That's something I feel like isn't pushed enough. People love to bash cameras. but honestly there's still a lot of advantages to something like the 80D over the EOS R. Cheaper lenses and smaller lenses for instance honestly makes it a better vlogging camera. Full-Frame lenses, especially mirrorless ones are HUGE and HEAVY haha. Always pros and cons.

Great video! I recently updated to a 90D as I was previously I was using an older Rebel XS. Definitely happy with the upgrade, and I hope yours is just as amazing!

Love hearing that! At the end of the day a camera is just a camera, but new features and settings can definitely make creating things more fun, I'm sure the 90D is incredible!

Honestly I'm gonna miss the 80D a bit, but at the end of the day all cameras do pretty much the same thing. It's just what you make with them that really matters. You better believe I'm gonna keep making stuff, I expect the same from you!

I had a canon t6 for nearly 6 years until I decided to upgrade to the 80d THIS YEAR because it was finally in my budget on the used market. Waiting on it to arrive but it will be a definite upgrade for me and will exceed my needs for awhile

Nice video, I subscribed! I have an 80D, but I find I'm not using it at all as I bought an do a RP. I would have gotten the R, but I didn't like the mode bar. I'm old fashion and like the mode dial. I love I can use the control ring for my iso and still use my old but still great lens. So far I love the RP, only issue is the slower frame rate and battery performance. May sell them both some day and get an R6!

here’s why i’m leaving my 80D I do lots of live streaming work and use the 80D 90D and several other cameras the big problem for me is when you connect it to a hdmi source the screen goes black, so i’d always have to use a external monitor just so my cam op could change settings efficiently. Compared to the 90D with a clean HDMI Option which shows the screen and does not loose the touch screen aspect. That’s my reason but it has served me well

Everyone's got their own needs! I always find it interesting how something like that can be a deal breaker for you, yet I never even knew about it since I'm not a streamer haha.

The 80D is still fine for me. I have the feeling, that I still have not pushed the camera to its boundaries. I make long exposure shots during the golden and blue hour.

Just sold my EOS 77D (which is kinda like 80D's younger sister) and switched to EOS R- For the same reasons. Enjoy it- It's AMAZING

Every camera has a shelf-life Josh. I own an M50 and a 250D/SL3 which for the time being suits my needs. Next year it might not. Who knows what camera body you'll be using in a few years? Until then, enjoy every moment of the Eos R Josh.

I was almost certain you would go for the 90D, which is probably the best cropped sensor Canon DSLR for video at the moment. But you went full frame mirrorless ☺ Is it just me or is the talking head video looking super good on the R?

@@LetsGoAviate You can still use EF-S. For photos there is a crop mode and for video if you shoot in 4K the crop is larger than the APS-C crop. I just ordered an RP and will be trying out my EF-S lenses on it before going after more RF glass

my next camera is the 250d which im looking to get at the end of the year, been a great fans of the canon models in this range due to there feature set and dual pixel autofocus.

I agree with this! I too have issues with the dynamic range and lighting of the canon cameras, and would love to be able to shoot better in low lighting and nature without the stress of it looking bad. Not having a full sensor is also something that bugs me. Not gonna lie, I did just upgrade to a 90D from an older Rebel last year. I love my 90D but I'm the same as you, the small things bug me too much. I will be adding a Sony Alpha a7S III to the crew in 2021 -- despite it being a hefty investment. (I wanted a Blackmagic 6k but I heard it costs more to get accessories/rig it. Too broke for that lol!)

Great videos. I use a 80D for photos and I have been using a Canon XA11 camcorder for videos; I film for my church RU-vid channel. I have gotten great results and highly recommended this camcorder should you consider getting one in the future.

First time I will buy RP but when I compare RP vs 80D in using current times, 80D sill is the best of price/performance.

Portability and flexibility are huge factors for my gear setups. I want to be able to throw everything I could possibly need for a shooting scenario in a medium sized backpack. That's why I'm sticking with mirrorless APS-C. But for others, they may need full frame or a cinema camera. Everyone's needs are different. Great video as always, Josh!

That's so true...lemme tell ya my biggest gripe with the EOS R is the LENS SIZES! In my opinion it's not particularly great at anything, but it can handle almost anything. Somewhere in-between a run and gun setup and a cinema camera. Honestly the thing I'll miss most about APS-C is you can get FAST lenses for WAYYYY cheaper as well haha!

I've got no idea. Depends if you shoot portraits, make short films, youtube videos, commercial work, how much dynamic range you need, lowlight, etc. For $1000 it's not a bad camera, but you've gotta give me some details before I know if it's the best one for you!

Dynamic Range isn't great on the newer canons either. Would have been better moving to Sony. You can adapt your canon lenses to the Sony system. Makes most sense if you want to keep your camera lenses. Otherwise... Fuji would be my other choice or you said it panasonic. My phone has better dynamic range than canon cameras. I own the 80D.

Dude. I am upgrading my m100. I solely only photograph. Not interested in video. Would you still recommend the 80d? I am stuck between this or the m50. I plan on keeping my m100 so don't know if there is much point in getting the m50 and might be better getting the 80d. Would the m50 be better for low light? Any thoughts?
