And so the wild cat man appears in his natural habitat the RU-vid comment and will soon return to his cave to continue watching Anime and reading Manga alone in the dark.
julesloveless well I actually I know creators who are constantly getting demonetised so much that RU-vid thinks they’re actually a harmful Chanel and they start getting strikes against their channel that could get it taken down!
I really didn't want to make a video on this, especially we've got far more awesome videos to get on with; but when a video as uncontroversial as me sitting in a room talking about North Korea or Natsuki eating some ramen gets flagged, it's definitely worrying - and enough people over the last month have asked me about it to justify making a video discussing it. I hope this video gives a decent overview of the situation and why it's been a step backwards for the Abroad in Japan channel (as it has been for most channels), but I plan to draw a line under it here though; I won't keep going on about this. It sucks but we'll get through it! Now back to editing the next one ;) OPERATION BREADSTICK IS A GO.
Well this is fucking demonetised and RU-vid is now a Nazi Germany where free speech is prohibited. Always enjoy your videos btw, they have improved a lot
Captain - So guys, what did we learn from today's experience? Any thing about the hostage survival rate, or operation efficiency? Rookie AI 1 - I think rocket launchers are cool Rookie AI 2 - Door are bad
CNN, MSNBC, and the networks etc better stop reporting the news in between their ads. Would not be surprised if those youtube news channels still get monetized.
Spiderman and Elsa now violate the ToS as well, considering this specific rule "Inappropriate use of family entertainment characters: Videos depicting family entertainment characters or content, whether animated or live action, engaged in violent, sexual, vile, or otherwise inappropriate behavior, even if done for comedic or satirical purposes, are not eligible for advertising.
Well... Then its my time to upload videos the . lol. One falls... Another rises. .. To avenge the blood of our fallen!! >:) .....no?... Okay sorry... None the less I am going back to Japan this fall and will create videos I suppose not my primary reason but okay!
Right there with ya man. Did a video of a Japanese mall tour... demonetized. Did a video on escapism in Japan.. demonetized. I do believe this is only temporary though. It has become such a massive issue they have to address it properly... don't they. 'Looks around hopefully' Best of luck.
It did have a store in it called Molly experience *for children... Taken out of its context that may not have looked so good... But yeah I think it will work out this is the rocky seas of RU-vid as it evolves. Head down as usual. Work harder, make better stuff.
If it was going to get better, they would have done that during test and review stages, before giving it the power to demonetize. This is they version they have settled on to do an acceptable job, so there is no guarantee that it will get better, unless they purposely prematurely released broken garbage to shut up advertisers.
YOU LIED TO ME CHRIS YOU PUT THE PUMPKIN AT THE END XD Shits actually so creepy haha but so sad to hear about all this demonetization bro, I really hope things pick up and it stops happening for you! Can't wait for more
Please make sure you appeal every one of the demonetizations. They are using a faulty algorithm that needs more training, by appealing and getting your videos manually approved the algorithm will hopefully learn that your content is fine.
This is amazing! I literally aspire to reach this level of chill when it comes to reacting to things. Seriously, calm and collected is the best way to say screw you.
That pumpkin is NOT kid friendly. Or adult friendly. I now know what's going to be on the inside of my nightmares tonight.. But even so, I would still watch your videos even if that demonic pumpkin was your new mascot, you're awesome! :)
British sarcasm is always the best! And I just knew that this day would come. RU-vid just seems to be getting worse and worse for creators. It seems that RU-vid is no longer a place for creators to create and share their videos. But rather a platform for big corporations.
So many RU-vidrs have complained about the changes since early this year and you're the first guy Iv'e watched who has laid things bare, now I finally understand why. Thank you for helping us understand and I hope things improve for you.
When it comes to this channel (and videos he is in) this is my only question about this issue LOL past that i have seen way worse things than what chris ever posts and it still is monetized.
It’s seriously time to ditch RU-vid. I’d follow content creators anywhere but RU-vid. Seriously, I won’t ditch creators but I do hope a new platform for content is found or developed soon.
There are already a lot of platforms out there... and its not exactly difficult to add a video-player element to your own website if you run one, with the only major issue being storage space. Only reason people remain on RU-vid is because its well-known and, as much as you say you'll follow the creator, most are too lazy to go to another website... its why stuff like Patreon aren't viable just yet, people are just too lazy to go to it half the time.
Anqry / Evelyn Yeah, I already get used to youtube and some platform like twitch got blocked in my country because of some guys streaming esports, i could get vpn but the free one always fucking slow or can’t even connect
So essentially this is a ploy by Google to decrease the amount of money they have to pay out to content creators...since most of the money they would normally earn comes early on after a video is released. There is no reason they couldn't have their algorithm analysis happen BEFORE the video goes live, and let you prevent it from going live if they deem it un-monetizable. You could then appeal and have it go live AFTER they approve it. Total BS.
No, while the policy obviously wasn't thought through, Google is losing money *with* the creator, in this case, since the ads are removed (which is the source of revenue for both parties.)
xXDESTINYMBXx kappa that's not how it works at all. Advertisers pay for people watching the ad. If there are no ads in front of the video, nobody watched it. So obviously no money for the creator, but also no money for Google either.
eechauch not true, the adds are still there in other countries, and the adds still land on the google search engine.. this is liberal communist propaganda..
Dear Chris, Thank you for making this video for RU-vidrs everywhere. I've been watching your video's for months now and I've liked all of your videos and been spamming every ad that was available. Your video's have helped me going through some tough times, and one might say you may have even saved my life in one of my darkest hours. Your content has rekindled life onto me and has helped me learned what a wonderful and beautiful country Japan really is. You have also sparked an interest for education within me and I am aspiring to be a teacher. I hope RU-vid open their eyes and see what they're doing wrong and continue to improve what they're doing right. Because without the freedom for creators to make their videos their creation can never inspire people or touch people in ways they were meant to. Don't give up on RU-vid, Chris! - A thankful and loyal viewer.
How hard is it to add a new bookmark and type in a new website that is just like youtube. Really. even if you had a youtube red subscription it's actually *really* easy to watch another site. It does not require a thing from you.
Yes it does it requires they have a comprehensive application that allows me to watch videos from my phone. The RU-vid application is very well designed. Combining that with the fact that a lot of creators are hesitant to start on another site will continue to delay any sort of transition.
This video is so educational, yet entertaining. Thanks for sharing your feelings and what you have learned about the new RU-vid algorithm, Chris. As an infant "AI", the thing is shitting all over the place, but hopefully things will improve quickly for all the RU-vidrs who should not be affected.
Protest RU-vid by uploading a black screen on 2/14/18, the anniversary of RU-vid. RU-vid is going the way of MySpace. They will eventually be replaced if they keep it up.
starshipfantastica fantastic idea..this WAS a platform for everyday joe to create their own content and to have fun..now it's just a bunch of reaction videos and those stupid elsa/spiderman nonsense
Nah, RU-vid is plenty profitable as far as this kind of service goes. It's estimated that Google has already made many billions off it. For every ad watched, RU-vid is taking a cut of that revenue. And with the scale of RU-vid, I can imagine advertisers pay a fortune to get their ads shown on this platform. Of course, running a service like this is extremely expensive, and the only reason why professional analysts think RU-vid makes money is because it's owned by Google, or Alphabet. If some other smaller company tried their luck at making a RU-vid, it would almost certainly lose a ton of money, simply because they're not globally recognized as THE site for sharing videos. You can find all this with a quick Google search for 'RU-vid revenues for Google', that also helps fund Google's operations with some more advertisement money. Although, they did just introduce RU-vid Red and RU-vid TV, which are additional sources of income for RU-vid. I'm not saying RU-vid made a lot of money beforehand, but it was most likely breaking even and making a bit extra on top, but on top of that, it's the brand that helps make a bigger name for Google and keep people on their platform.
That's capitalism for ya. They don't care about the creators (the workers) as long as they can keep making money of your back. They'll replace you if that means more money for them.
I have been working in 2 alternatives to youtube and facebook, both being legionfrontier.com and legionfront.me the problem is that video hosting/bandwith/CDN bills can easily get wicked expensive and I dont have thousands of dollars to not care about it and then most good paying advertising networks are too anal of what you can display or not in the website lately, Im planing of make a full release of most of the emails I have got from me working on this projects over a damn year already, personally I dont know if I should still bother with it since then the next problem will be people actually willing to use my damn projects in the first place and Im honestly losing alot of sanity/hope in it
@Mina Loi Hello this is "Uncle Billy", this is my main youtube channel, just wanted to say thanks but right now Im prioritizing work on my legionfront.me site if anyone wants to actually join that site
I love you and your videos. You are one of a kind, Chris. There is never a bit of hateful content in here. You are very intelligent and your videos are informative. Much love from Chicago!
That same system feeds me ads for products that I do not like, want or need. Stuff way out of my price range. And for products that I am unable to use. I am legally blind, but they keep trying to sell me cars. Quite comical really. That is why it is called “artificial” intelligence. Sounds rather stupid to me.
If the algorithm is seemingly smart enough to filter out Swears or specific topics, then why not instead of demonitising these videos, ad these specific flags to the videos and then let the advertiser when he partners up with youtube, chose what flags he can live with, what flags he decides to be okay with and what not. Basically the advertisers say "I am okay with videos with swearing or mild nudity, but I am not okay when it includes the wrinkly McNugget face of Donald Trump". This way both sides will profit. One will not lose advertisers, and the other can target his ads even more specific.
Because these days the social media buzz is the only guideline corporatons and their PR department goes. Not by logic. "Social media is screaming! PUSH THE PANIC BUTTON!!"
Chris, hope this gets better soon! I just watched your Ted talk and wanted to let you know that I just went to Japan and ate at Itamae sushi (twice, it was really really good) because of your videos! Keep doing great work!
I've been seeing more and more great RU-vidrs like yourself having their videos demonetised. It's pretty awful after so many RU-vidrs are putting in a huge amount of effort to create amazing videos for people like myself. Hang in there bro, love your work!
One of the best and most creative ways to criticize RU-vid's idiotic demonitizing zombie. It was clever and funny. I enjoyed it, and I'm sorry that you and many wonderful creators have had to deal with this inefficient problem.
I have been subscribed to your channel for about a year now and happy you stand true.. Most youtubers are just changing their content and personality so they can continue getting the ad revenue. Love you man!
Sorry you having a rough time with RU-vid and it's new'ish system. I know it's.. well it's shit. The whole concept of RU-vid was a creative platform for people to express themselves and even potentially self-start themselves. I hope you continue to do what you do best. If you choose to follow through into a different platform, I'll continue to follow you over there. I've learned a lot from your videos and genuinely really appreciate the channel. Thanks Chris!
I love your videos and presenting style as it’s what made me subscribe to you in the first place. I really hope that you can continue being you and not have your hard work go to waste. RU-vid stop biting the hand that feeds you!
*dancing pumpkin in the end* You were the chosen one! It was said that you would destroy the Adpocalypse, not join them! Bring balance to the Algorithm... not leave it in darkness!
The only problem is that RU-vid isn't really profitable. Google mostly keeps it so that it can hold on to it's marked share and for brand purposes. But you won't see a company invest millions in a service that even if it is successful and even if it can take over youtube won't even make you that much money.
This happened to me too! It seems so unfair for small RU-vidrs like myself because I would never get to 1000 views in 7 days. Which is needed to get a review. By the way, I love the video, always do. you crack me up! haha
I feel incredibly bad for him! I don't understand why advertisers can't pick and choose what demographic tiers they are okay with their marketing to reach? Why such a broken, pitiful automated system designed to undermine the very creators of content RU-vid needs to thrive? It's so counter productive! Chris has done more good in providing "infotainment" and in such a style that only he can do. It hurts to see it happen to folk like him. I hope more people offer support through other avenues to keep Broad In Japan thriving.
Thank's to you and your videos I had an amazing first time in Japan! You're observational humor is so spot on that it had me cracking up inside of a Lawsons at 3am remembering something you said about awful Japenglish phrases. I now aim to learn as much Japanese as I can in order to live there some day in the future. Cheers!
I'm sorry to inform you but Mr Snuggles is a Family Entertainment Character created by some RU-vid who get demonitized nowaday. The way you handled the character is against RU-vid's Guidelines.
Well, I saw no ad so I am guessing this video has been Demonized...errr....demonetized....Well, we love you Chris. I will make sure and re watch all your videos this weekend to get you a lil extra revenue.
why aren't there pre-checks ? you upload it to youtube, the ai checks if its ad friendly or not, then you can decide whether to make it live if its ok or edit it and reupload if not.
Because if content creators could have their content checked by the algorithm before it goes live and start getting views, then RU-vid / Google wouldn't be able to keep 100% of the revenue the video makes while still being new and getting most of its views. After all RU-vids CEO recently admited that RU-vid had never been profitable, That they are ”still in investment mode” and that they still have 'no timetable for profitability'.
You hit Mr Snuzzles at 1:41 which could make kids think violence is okay. That is an inappropriate use of family entertainment characters. I am sorry but your video has been *DEMONITIZED*
I make education videos in mathematics and linguistics, and all of my videos get flagged for 3-4 days until they go through the review process. The algorithm just hits literally everything. Schedule those videos a week in advance.
