Dating a single mother is like being asked to clean up at a party you were never invited too.

I recently got out of a long term relationship with a Venezuelan. Overall, after time, women are women no matter where you go. First the pros. Yes, she was attractive. Also she was feminine in that she did her best to take of me. Overall she was a good person. But over time, some of the things you mentioned came up. Obviously language barrier became frustrating (even though i am trying to learn Spanish, i am just terrible at learning languages, especially while juggling a full time job). She was also looking to be "kept" and looking for a man to save her, while simultaneously declaring her independence. It wasnt a terrible relationship, but ultimately cultural differences, language differences and a sprinkle of feminism ultimately led it to fail. Ultimately women are women. All men complain that they cant find a "traditional woman", but are we all fully and truly "traditional men"? Unless you have the money and willingness to provide for her and future children, its probably not a fair ask for most men. Most arent prepared for that responsibility in their heart of hearts. Though dating an attractive and traditional woman did teach me some things. A) women are women everywhere. The culture may be different, but their motivations are the same. Ultimately they date in their own best interests. If you arent attractive or wealthy or willing to FULLY provide, they will ultimately test you. B) I thought i would be much happier ina relationship. Its true, some things are nice, but you are only as happy as the other person. Her problems become yours and vica versa. If you arent in a fully happy and steady state yourself, no amount of traditional or beautiful women near you will solve for that. C) i have a greater appreciation for being single. Yes, sometimes its lonely. But more often than not its not. Between work, going to the gym, meeting other expats and other activities, life is easier when you arent obligated to solve the problems of other people. I only have to solve for myself. I think more men need to work on that last bit. If you cant solve for yourself, dating and/or a relationship is only going to amplify your own bullshit. Work through as many of your problems first if you want to date seriously (regardless of which country you are dating in). Work on your own health first. Your own finances first. Your own trauma first. Trying to skip that work and diving into a relationship is only going to make all of that work more difficult. Thats my 2 cents for what little it is worth.

Please stress to guys that being a young, hot woman from Colombia is NOTHING if she is not at your SES/class level, educationally, financially. You will NOT be able to form a functional relationship if the woman you meet has come from a severely disadvantaged background, filled with trauma.

I'm in Medellin and the amount of single moms is truly insane, It's not something I can compromise on .

I am Colombian and when I watch your videos, I wonder if you have ever met a Colombian woman whose interests go beyond the norm. I'm talking about a woman who is curious about other cultures, who likes to read, who likes to learn new things all the time and who considers that keeping up to date is vital, a woman who has travelled (or at least she's interested in doing so), who has had a good education, maybe speaks different languages or at least English and knows that there is more in the world than just Colombia, someone who knows how to differentiate between stereotypes and reality and who doesn't confuse the Chinese people with Japanese and Koreans or the Americans with the Europeans. I am from Barranquilla and I am surprised to see in your videos and in other expats' videos always the same type of Colombian women, but it's possible to meet educated women in Colombia. Don't get me wrong, I love your videos and I always watch them. Although I don't always agree with your ideas, I like the fact that you express them anyway, that's what freedom of speech is all about. I just think it's crucial to pay attention WHERE you meet people. I'm afraid Tinder, nightclubs, parties and churches are not going to cut it, with a few exceptions, of course. Keep up the good work and try to explore other types of Colombians. 😊

Wes, Wes, Wes. My man. You were one of the ones saying that Colombian women are fantastic. Believe me man, I'm not saying this in a way to disparage you but I'm like watching you do a complete 180 from your previous marriage and relationship videos regarding Colombian women. I mean I get it. I do. And I know you shouldn't worry about appearances, but it is just so weird hearing your talking points now, versus your talking points a year ago. I'm glad you did an ending clarifying. Ultimately, I think the selection process is just so key to things. And you can't do the 1-year courtship thing. You've got to really have a long-term relationship given the things you said to see if ANY woman is really fit for you. Marrying a Latin woman in many many cases (not all) is really a life altering change because culturally things ARE very different. That said, I think there are MANY Colombian women that can have successful relationships with "western" men. Marriage is hard no matter who it is with. That is the bottom line. Heck, my wife and I are the same race / culture / we even grew up together. Yes we used to play in the dirt together as little kids. And we STILL both had moments where we were ready to walk away. But here we are 30 years later still going strong. Religion has been a big contributor there, but as well, nothing forgoes the hard work that it takes to stay committed to one another and working through problems. PERIOD. As a colombian myself i cannot disagree with you. I find women in Medellín to be jealous and toxic. A big majority of them are looking for someone with money so they can maintain a good life. Sadly I think being a single man may be the way forward. At least that way i don't lose anything like money, time and energy

I've never met a more jealous people than colombian women, and ive dated almost all races. Most of the millennials think so highly of themselves while offering nearly nothing in return. They want their life to be easier, but don't realize the stress they induce on their partner. They want to be independent but also pampered. The crazy hot scale definitely applies here though, so i guess that's the trade off we have to accept if dating a colombian woman.

I'm from Colombia and it's really outstanding the way that you can summarize so well the people from the country. I'd say that nowdays there are less colombian women looking for a gringo -for the money- (maybe only the poor women) because as you said, they're very independent now and there is this new and strong culture to encourage that women become professionals and be in Senior and CEO positions, now is very normal that your girlfriend or wife gain more salary than you (ofc if they studied bachelor, master, etc), so, if you want to get an studied gf, you'll need to have something else beside money because they're very focused in their studies and jobs, that's a huge difference now, they're not in the house cooking and cleaning anymore.

Once I was crucified on another foreign RU-vid channel when I gave my opinion. I am Colombian and have lived in the USA and Colombia, and I can give my testimony. I have dated women from various parts of the world. The best thing about living in the USA is the diversity of cultures that one encounters here, in my opinion. I don't know where they got the idea that Latinas were submissive, the perfect homemakers willing to give everything to their husbands, good cooks. You were describing my grandmother, and it made me laugh. Times have changed. Don't they do any research on the internet? The Internet invention from USA, Nowadays, no one wants a serious relationship. People have other goals, especially women. They don't want to have children. They have even started to outperform men in obtaining a university degree. They don't need us anymore. Now we focus on ourselves, on materialism that is consuming us, and this makes relationships superficial. It seems easy for us to jump from one romantic relationship to another. Look at what is happening in China and southern European countries. They are aging and getting married less to the point of disappearing. Look at the case of Italy. So, I see that many of you young people find it easier and cheaper to come to Latin America with the idea of rescuing a princess from poverty and saving them from the evil abusive Latin men (recurring comments that I have read in the comments of many videos by foreigners, not only about Colombia but also about other places). Look at divorce statistics in wealthy countries, not far from those in Latin America. There are good women and men, of course they exist. Logically, not in Parque Lleras or party places. Finding a good woman and a good man requires a lot of time, not just a summer vacation. The best woman I have had was a Texan. I regret losing her. We had different goals at that time, and when I returned, it was too late. In today's globalized world with social media, society has been transforming into a more homogeneous one. The goal is to live a stress-free life, traveling the world and working as little as possible but still being millionaires. I don't see the goals of women and men being any different from what I am saying. Times have changed, and we will reach a point where seeing a stable couple with children will be quite amazing thing. Something not considered enough by foreigners is that even if you speak Spanish, it can be hard to talk about some issues as adeptly as you can in your own language. Fighting in a foreign language is tough - and most women when they are mad will not give you the benefit of the doubt when there is miscommunication.

Lol I married a colombian woman. we have been married for over 6 years and can honestly say that she is a wonderful woman. If you are not a man with spanish women then you will have a lot of problems.

I feel like people always talk about the importance of respecting Muslims but its never talked about how they lack respect towards others religions. Why should Colombians be expected to convert and have Islamic nerratives pushed onto us? If Muslims come to Colombia they should be respectful of our culture and our religion. I am so tired of the double standard, In many Middle Eastern and African countries Christians and other religious minorities are persecuted and treated atrociously yet this is often ignored by much of the world. I am Colombian but live in North America and I am tired of having Muslims trying to convert me and argue that they are superior because of their religion or ethnic background (usually a combination of the two). In addition, the comment "I want to be with a Colombian woman" seems to fetishize us. It seems that they just want to be with us because of the stereotypes that they have of latin women which consist of the perception that we are beautiful and sexual ect. These stereotypes undermine the inherent dignity of the actual person and enable latin women to be viewed as sexual objects. This whole thing is gross and as a Colombian I feel violated and disrespected.

Wes you're on point on many of your comments. I'm Colombian and was married to a paisa i understand. The infidelity in Medellin is insane. The females there cheat just as much if not worse than the men. Medellin is not for relationship neither is Pereira though not as bad. You can't say you won't date a Colombian lady again unless you leave. LOL. You should for a bit go explore Argentina, Chile, Brazil and breathe a litte. Don't lose sight of your goals and importantly, don't lose sight of the Man upstairs. If anything you've gained is a closer understanding of yourself and the Man upstairs. Be safe. Very sorry to hear about your divorce and the circumstances surrounding it. It’s been a while since I checked in on your channel and was shocked to see all that’s happened. Just my 2 cents as a complete stranger looking at the situation… I think you might be happier with a more well established worldly Colombian woman who’s traveled a bit and has some perspective on the world at large. This is probably a stark contrast to your ex wife who seemed live a very sheltered life. Even in North America I’ve always paid close attention to a women’s family life and the dynamics that are at play there. These are the people that you’ll likely be spending a good deal of time with for the rest of your life so it makes sense to make sure that you’re compatible with them in addition to your wife. Best of luck in the coming months. Keep your chin up and I hope that all goes well for you.

I was lucky enough to marry an amazing Colombian woman. She's not clingy, but I really like it when she clings.

Throughout the years in Colombia i have made my experiences. Overall Colombianas are just women too, and I don't mean that in a negative way. They are just more intense in any aspect than in other parts of the world. Western guys are used to jump through all of the hoops to make a woman happy. Happy wife, happy life right? Wrong. Her respect for you will quickly decline if you're not leading. They might claim they hate machismos toxicos, but in the end that's what they desire. If you make too many concessions, you'll lose her respect and it'll end badly. However, there are still plenty of red flags. If you avoid them, it'll be easier. No single moms, no party girls, no woman with bikini photos on Instagram (ideally no social media addict at all), no woman without a proper job, no woman with a high focus on status and things. She should be able to enjoy a hike as much as a fancy boat trip. And don't use your financial resources to get their attention, or you'll get a gold digger. Last but not least, learn how to say No and judge only based upon actions while completely ignoring her words. If her words don't align with her actions, you're being fooled.

Colombia is a country with 50 million people. Most international tourists think getting a wife is like getting a piece of meat. Among Colombian decent people, Medellin has gained a bad reputation over the last five years, just as Cartagena. Moreover, Colombian women that are open to start a relationship through nightlife and/or Tinder, tend to not to be the most respectable. It seems it is a lose or lose situation for Colombian women through what is expressed in this video. They only engage in relationships with foreigners to get some money out of it yet is neither good that there are so many holding job positions. You mention that there are educated, and a "different kind of Colombian women" in Bogota's high strata. I would say that there are also great girls in the low strata all around the country. Lots of girls that study hard to help their families, and have very healthy priorities. As also there are a number of ill intentioned women in Bogota's high strata. Divisions arent so black and white. Cheers

I am Asian from the U.S. , was married to a Colombian woman from Bogota. Women from Bogota are different than women from a smaller cities or region, such as Barranquilla., or even Cali, from my personal experience. Feminism had been prevalent all over Latin America. Colombian women still retained the traditional family oriented role. However, basic culture in Colombia have not changed much due to limited education and exposure to the U.S. and other modern countries. A educated professional in Colombia is not equal to same professional in other countries. For example, you could see a practice doctor younger than 30 in Colombia. I personally would not live in Colombia even if my wife is from there. There are lots of career limitation for a foreigner. The fluctuation of currency and economy are big concern for many years. My ex-wife owned 5 houses in Bogota, and the inflation made them worthless. It may be OK if you retire there with money. U.S. provided much more career and business opportunities (including security) than anywhere else in the world. I had been happily married with another Latina from South America. To my opinion they are the best. I wouldn't touch any woman from the U.S. with a 10 feet pole.

I live in Medellin half the year and nyc the other half. Like every place in the world you will find genuine people , fake people, happy people, miserable people. Sorry man I think you're back back stepping on what you said many months ago. Although I agree with some of the points you made you're definitely looking on the negative side of things. After living and knowing my Colombian white for the past 6 years I look back and realize it would have been easier with an American woman and less expensive. It hasn't been easy ride I used to blame her for cultural differences and her family. But I realized after a long time it was me that was part of the problem as well. I feel you keep on blaming culture religion and other things. when I was living in Colombia for a couple years I never hung out with Americans or gringos as they all seemed very lost. I’m Mexican and also traveled around the world including Colombia. To refer to Colombian values as close minded just because it doesn’t fit your own, shows who is the close minded one. I think you are just sour from your personal relationship experience but don’t generalize.

I disagree with a few points you made, specifically about point 2. While Latinas aren’t necessarily ultra trad, I’d say they are much more so then gringas. They are definitely very physically feminine. Their hygiene is on point, they are super worried about their appearance, they grow their hair down to their waist. They can’t even leave the house with doing themselves up let alone go out on a date with their hair pulled up and no make up (which is very common in middle America). They have a way higher degree of elegance and grace. on average they are much more likely to know how to cook. In the dating process they are definitely more submissive and easy to deal with. Very little nagging, obnoxiousness, or crassness( at least at the beginning lol). They let you fully take the lead most of the time, and it’s just above and beyond a way more pleasant experience from top to bottom. Although, they definitely are much more jealous!! 100 percent.

I'm very sorry what happened to your marriage, and going through a break-up is the hardest thing, especially publicly. So, I get how you feel. But, I want to come back to a statement you made about single mothers. It is not just a Latino thing. This crisis is happening in my home country(Canada) and the UK. It is quite widespread, and has become normalized unfortunately. I think this is a generational, and a results from baby boomer parents. I am Canadian, but come from Colombian parents,, and seen the increase in single Moms. All I will say is, just stick to your beliefs and integrity and try not to let this situation paint all colombian women this way. All people are individuals, and should be treated as such. Wow, those are my same exact gripes with American-Mexican women here in Orange County! They are tremendously gifted in their looks but extremely close minded in dating outside their Banda (music)Zone. Havent made it down to Colombia yet, but it seems like you just dashed my Latina dreams. Maybe your parents are keeping it💯 in that culture pays a HUGE role in whom you should marry. I prolly should spend more time learning my native Cantonese than all that fruitless effort I put into learning Spanish.

For some reason, it's kind of similar to my experience in the Philippines. The women here seem to me more responsible and there also exists a single mom crisis.

I'm dating a Colombian guy and I think he's learning alot of things from me. I see him evolving and becoming more responsible just like me. He admires my work ethics and wants to do better. We Converse via Google translate and we have no issues there while we learn each other's language. It's been a learning experience but I won't trade him for anything. I love him to pieces.

Dating Colombian men is also very difficult. If I didn't have the alien boyfriend I have I would be with a gringo for sure. Man are incredible possessive and I would say they are more toxic than women because their nature and that's why Colombia is one of the countries with higher levels of crime of passion and acid attacks. Also men as you mention in the video are incredible bad fathers. Unfortunately this country is so damaged emotionally and most people don't know what's to have a healthy relationship and that's for both men and women. I am glad my students have found good women, well I have helped them a lot to learn not only Spanish but also how to spot a bad woman. It is as important as Spanish. 😅

Im Colombian and women there work hard and try to get their college in order to give good life to their kids many of these women choose a wrong man who doesn’t help them in any way. We are also independent because our dads were not there and many work at a very early age.

It seems like the window of opportunity is closing for men to find good wives in Latin America. It’s like do it now because in 5 or 10 years, it will be bad the same as the states.😢

Just seeing this. Been here 6 months a year for the last 3 years. Spot on. I am an old man but it is difficult to form a relationship because of exactly what you said. I also lived in SE Asia for many years and know a little Thai. If not for the horrible pollution that would be my place of call. But, now it is Colombia.

Good vid, covered all the relevant points very quickly. The single mom thing was a shock to me at first, back when I first visited Colombia in the late aughties. I remember going on two dates in a row, both of these paisas were 21 year old stunners, only to find out that they already had, not one, not two, but THREE kids at 21! I was totally fooled, as they were both knockouts, so it didn't even occur to me that their bodies could have gone through three pregnancies already! Kudos to them for taking care of their bodies like that, unlike so many gringas stateside . . . but this blew my mind at first. Then I realized this was sadly a common thing. One girl even confided to me the father of her kids was shot and killed in a botched robbery attempt (HE was one of the robbers by the way. . .). When I was staying in Bogota, an older woman I dated, this one 34 so one year younger than me at the time, was divorced with no kids . . . but yeah she mentioned her ex-husband was physically violent with her, so she had to leave him and move to Bogota from Bucaramanga (where she was from). As a tip to the guys here, I would say that while the weather in Bogota is perhaps not ideal when compared to Medallo, you will likely find a woman with more education, more professional background (if you value that), more travel experiences, maybe speaks a bit English, less likely to have 2 or 3 bambinos, etc . . . The language thing was never a problem as Spanish is my second language since I was a kid, but I can definitely see that as a major issue that a lot of guys here haven't seriously thought through. This is why I recommend Bogota, where you will find more ladies with international exposure or experiences, and can speak a little English. I suppose the "red pill" or "passport bro" critique here would be why go to a foreign country to look for a woman with "bad Western" influences, but I would argue a pure Colombiana might be too much for some gringos to handle, lol . . . 😆 The infidelity thing is something that would have bothered me a lot more when I was young and insecure, but now that I'm approaching old fart status, I'm more accepting of certain realities. I have no illusions or ideals about this anymore; it is what it is . . . but when in Rome . . . 😉

I still will date a colombian after my adventures there but I'll really be selective with them. To be honest I think a peruvian will be a better partner after being in both countries.

Yes, one would think that with the sheer volume of attractive women here that it would be a crap shoot, but the reality is quite different. Personally, I've decided they have to meet at least the following two criteria to consider getting involved with someone again: 1) college educated, and 2) at least some exposure to U.S. culture via either an extended visit, or prior time living there.

Would you do a response video on Saiyan Chan---his contention is the Colombian woman is a good deal--he even states it is a good deal with single mothers. I think not---he has a lot of good points but I'm not with him on us "needing to open our wallet." I won't link it but all you have to do is look up saiyan chan dating single mothers in colombia---it will pop up. I'm in Pereira now.

All this is very true. The cultural difference is almost impossible to resolve. E.g., Colombian women love dancing, and they are consquently attracted to very good, seductive dancers, which means Colombian guys - not foreigners. These Colombian guys have danced since they were two years old. Us foreigners will never be able to look superior and competent relative to them. So there we have a big disadvantage. Same with flirting, humor, etc.. So the "best option" for the Colombian woman is to have a foreigner pay the bills, house her and feed her, while she cheats on you as soon as she gets the chance with a local guy.

I think these traits apply for both latinamerican men and women who haven't traveled much, come from a strong religious upbringing and have other limitations. I had major cultural shocks as a Venezuelan woman dating Argentinean and Colombian men who were extremely closed-minded, clingy, only liked local foods, where very traditionalists, very family-oriented, and so on, and so forth. So, I think cultural shocks come from being unable to empathize and be curious and open-minded about learning about and from other cultures, rather than by being from a specific country. That's my experience anyways...

I'm American but my ancestry in Kenyan. I consider myself very well educated (Ivy League). I've never been married. I got intrigued by Colombia and Brazil like 10 years ago. We have Colombian and Brazilian restaurants in Boston which I have really enjoyed. But that's been the extent of my exploration. Have been planning to visit Colombia but been hesitant due to the stories regarding foreigners getting robbed, drugged or worse. I will definitely hit Brazil soon. I have to say that I find Wes's channel to be very interesting. I'm new to it. I think I'm learning a lot from it and the comments from viewers. I think the more I view his channel, the more I realize that cross-cultural relationships are much harder than I thought. And if you throw in language differences, you have a steep mountain to climb. I have watched many other RU-vid channels which make it seem easy but I'm slowly beginning to feel that it isn't so. Wes has more credibility to me because he has actually been married to a Colombian. I think for someone like me, it's better to try to find someone in America, as hard as it may seem, if I'm going to go the cross-cultural route. This could include a Black American, an African from any African country but who grew up in America, a Colombian or Brazilian who grew up in America, basically an American of any race who is cool with cross-cultural relationships. I think this would work best for me. I'm on the older side. I don't need hassles.
