Getting rid of a core battlefield mechanic like the class system and replacing it with specialists has put a lot of traditional battlefield fans off it. A lot more than Dice and EA were expecting probably.

Mixing cod and battlefield developers was a bad decision to begin with. And I agree, the class system is poor.

My last hope lies on Battlefield Portal. Servers with Battlefield 3 maps and Bad Company 2 maps the way they used to be. No specialists bullshit, no grappling hook bullshit, no warzone/apex look-alike. But this is just me. My point is I don't feel Battlefield as a truly Battlefield game for a very long time.

Hate third person takedowns. Hope theres an option to make it first person. Also hope the score goes back to the middle. Hope those specialists get fixed too. They need to make them faction based.

I hate specialists, too. They remove my competitive advantage of having the money to pay for expensive cheats. Now it’s just part of the game.

That's all DICE/EA had to do was the good old Battlefield formula with classes, have dynamic destruction, make sure the map size matched the player count and allow iconic maps from the franchise to make a comeback and they had a winner on their hands. This really felt like it could have been a year where Battlefield makes a large dent against COD, but thanks to this Specialist (Siege/Cod) feature, its looking like DICE's downward spiral with this franchise continues.

I started playing battlefield 4 again because of my hype for 2042. After playing the beta and realizing what a disaster specialists are going to be in practice... I've lost hype, And honestly I'm still having fun just playing BF4 again.

I gotta say the beta really lowered my hype level for the game, specialist are so badly implemented and the amount of work the game needs across the board is huge. I really thought dice would balance specialists to avoid one man army load outs but that isn’t the case, the game has big potential but it will be a long road to realise it

simplicity is king. these large changes are obviously made to lure cod fans and other non-battlefield players into the franchise. just remove the greedy microtransaction specialists and stick with classes

Its a bad sign that ART sounds so frustrated about the concept and the state of the game. I guess we all want 2042 to rock but are also informed and smart enough to know that this whole thing might blow. DICE please!

I am in exactly the same boat. It was the specialists that was the nail in the coffin for me. Here is a summary of my beta experience: 1) Come home at lunch break, prepare all my keybindings. 2) Come home after supper, log in with my friend. My keybindings no longer work, despite my playtest at lunch 5 hours earlier. After wasting an hour trying to get the bindings to reset, I finally fixed it by uninstalling the beta and reinstalling the game. 3) Realize with shock that I am playing at 80 fps on low with a 3080 Ti. Why does this game look worse than bf1 which is 5 years old? FIVE!! 4) The full impact of the specialist system hits me. I am choosing a single gadget as an engineer rather than two gadgets. As an engineer, I easily choose the rocket launcher and kiss the repair tool goodbye permanently. 5) We jump in a tank to double team. The gunner turret is unusable and constantly glitching. We give up tanking. 6) I jump in a chopper only to realize that my yaw keybinds don't work for turning left. Nada. 7) We spend alot of time running large distances to flags for action. The vehicle call in system works sometimes and other times it is bugged and won't deploy a simple jeep for us. 8) No big map, no revives, no ammo, and rather boring map design leave me underwhelmed by the end of the night. And that was my beta experience. It honestly all felt like an amateur attempt at a f2p battlefield knockoff by a chinese studio rather than a AAA well established franchise with 3 years of development time, 3 studios and millions of dollars of budget. Maybe EA/Dice are now sweatshops with young, inexperienced talent because that's who it felt developed this product. Come on. 3 month old beta? What company would release a beta in this shape in the first place? This was frankly embarrassing. My hype is gone too.

Knowing battlefield launches it will be a massive shitstorm, i can already feel it. Also i have noticed that Jackfrag have gone complete silent about 2042 issuses, he is not speaking a word about it.

You're not alone. I was expecting something more grounded. The meta and balance will always be bad because of these specialists and u gotta remember there will be even more of them added over time.

I definitely agree and echo your concerns and sentiment. I'm really disappointed and already accepted this is not a battlefield game I'll be invested in. I'm really disappointed, the beta was eye opening and its been downhill since. I agree with the Portal statement and I'm not pinning any hopes on the mode. At best it divides the player base in a big way.

If I agree with you, specialists seems like some schlomo EA board director idea. "We have to make it interesting for the kiddos or else we will lose out to Call of Duty again!" Battlefield is not COD, that's why I liked it. As you said, I would be fine with specialists if they actually tried with them. They seriously sound like an after thought that Dice just had to throw in there to please the board. Downfall of BF V started right after the call of duty at came out after it, I only used to play for fun, but now that these zoomer streamers and "Activist gamers" (cringe) came to be the internet culture is being tailored too "normies". COD has been lame ever since MW2. Battlefield was different, this, in my opinion is what made it more fun. Now its just consumerist garbage like everything else on the internet. I probably won't even buy this title or any other games for that matter. I am going to go read a book. bye

I won't attempt to predict anything related to gameplay, however, I will say that the fact the Battlefield Theme was not present in the release trailer left me feeling apprehensive right from the start. The "feeling" just wasn't there like it was for all the other games that did have it.

I don't know exactly what everyone here doesn't like about battlefield 2042, but, I am 99% sure it's the specialist system, and I agree. The biggest problem to me in bf2042 is the lack of good development to the game. If they really want, they can easily save the game; they can just separate the specialists in the usual classes, and limit their weapons and gadgets to their specific class. Then, on hazard zone, they can be the way they are today. This can be done very easily and quickly as well. Another fact to take into account is that bfv was a complete failure, and many people warned Dice that the next bf game was the last hope to the franchise, so, why did they risk it with the specialist system? Wasn't it obvious that everyone was going to hate it? Putting this aside. I actually think I will like the game, I joined the franchise and its fanbase in BF1, so this will be the first modern bf game that I play and put time into. So far, the biggest problems of the game are not that great (except for the specialists, which can be easily fixed) and the overall feeling of it seems to be good, but I think we will have to wait and see

Dice is either toying with us or they’re actually going in a direction that is going to water down what this game represents. I love what you said about the specialist being only in portal or hazard zone. Leave the well enough alone at times is the right thing to do.

I’m 34 and started the series with BF3. My hype leading to up to launch for BF4-BF1-BFV, felt like Christmas morning. I still am excited to play 2042, but since it’s reveal my hype has dwindled to an unfamiliar level.

Me either, I actually canceled my pre order after playing the beta. I'm just not a fan of apex nor cod and anything that reminds of those games isn't worth playing. I bought arma 3, squad, hell let loose, and sandstorm insurgency instead, and I'm happy.

All DICE had to do was give us a modern era game with the usual Battlefield gameplay we're used to. Instead they decided to change core gameplay features, and give us something absolutely nobody wanted. How did they fumble this opportunity so hard?

I just feel like it looks so much worse than bf5 and even bf1. The graphics, scenery, and overall feeling was so much nicer on those games

4:20 you complain that X peoples will take X specialist to much ? and what about BF or BF best loadout tied to a classes on certain maps were the Main Pic for basically everyones so there was either to much medic , either to much engineers , or to much x and y depending on the META so yeah peoples were taking classes base on META not base on so call team works . Why do you think Metro 24/7 and Operation locker 24/7 were so popular ? Because 90% of BF players dont give a damned about team works

Agree with you man they have killed my hype with the lack lustre beta and the unbalanced specialists. People say we'll play portal but why buy a full game and only be able to play a third of it 😞. They going to split the fanbase even more with all these modes etc.

Best bet is pick it up after Christmas when it's on sale and some bugs have been fixed... It's gonna be a mess at launch, like all the others before it

Westie got an early look at portal and said that you can go through BF2042s entire life cycle without having to use specialist cuz of portal, i think portal will live up to the hype because back in the BF3 and 4 days most people just jumped on custom servers playing maps and modes they wanted to play like 24/7 playlists, so I think portal will actually be bigger than the core 2042 multiplayer

I was fairly excited when it was first announced, not anymore. The beta looks like warzone with a futuristic twist. Even conquest just doesn't look like Battlefield. I hope they overhaul the entire game, either that or make Portal have the ability to look identical to older titles.

I'm more excited for this this game than I was for Hardline, BF1, and BFV. I'm fine with the game being different, I like seeing new ideas. If it doesn't pan out, I'm out sixty dollars, not really a huge deal. There are many other games to play, including the other battlefield games.

It's the complete opposite for me. I haven't been this hyped for a Battlefield since Battlefield 4. The beta is the most fun I had since BF 4.

i am actually very exited for bf 2042, cause the beta was very very fun, even tho yes it was laggy and needs more work, the core gameplay is very fun Just preordered it

As someone who has played every bf from modern combat 2, the specialists don't bother me, in fact what had bothered me the most with bfv was how limited or how powerful the classes could be. Your team has no assault players? Good luck dealing with a tank. Rush with anything but medic? You can't heal. Point being dice can mess up classes just as much as a free for all specialists system. If the classes are done nicely they're great, but done poorly on a server with as many people as on 2042, it could be an unbalanced nightmare.

Was looking for an actual review of Bf, came across your channel and hundreds of vids on Bf, makes me sad to see this game in such a state, hoping it'll recover by launch and both of us can enjoy enjoy it once again.

I've been a sub for sometime and your honesty and straightforwardness are what makes me keep the sub. I have the exact feeling you're having and to me the reveal trailer also gave me hope about this franchise. To me, this title is a go or bust title. If they don't nail it, i'm off because i don't have to play a game i don't like just because there's "Battlefield" on the title. I did it after 190 hours of bfv and i will do it again if need be

My hype has definitely gone through peaks and troughs, since BF2042's announcement although I have to say, i'm still sincerely excited for this game. Design choices aside, the biggest missing piece for me is a SP campaign. I was really drawn into the story from BF3 and BF4, albeit their shortcomings, and it really adds to the setting/feeling/immersion when playing multiplayer

Battlefield with the class system was already a "free for all" because most people on the servers didn't give a crap about their class roles or the squad/team that they were playing on. That is why the lack of a class system did not bother me at all in the beta. It will be just like it has always been in this series. Where the people that want to play together and use teamwork will do so, and those that won't will not bother. Battlefield V was the low point in the series for me where my hype for the game died after buying and playing it. However I've had enough fun with the Battlefield 2042 beta that the genuine excitement for the final game is there.

A big disappointment for me, the worst part is that EA sold us an old school gritty classic Battlefield experience in the trailer but I just see a clean Cod type hero shooter wannabe. Preorder canceled.

I was more excited for the jets but was disappointed. I hope they go back to the flying mechanics like bf4.

Dice didn't need specialist sytem to sell cosmetics, they just followed apex's footsteps. I preferred the class system as well but it's not like it was perfect. Some classes like assult and engineer were overpicked, especially in certain maps. Dice are distributing some of the roles among different specialists, which I think is a good idea. All that being said, I think 2042 looks and feels like a Battlefield game. I enjoyed my time a lot in the beta. Also there aren't any fps games as fun as battlefield, so we're kinda stuck with it regardless lol

I'm willing to give it a shot because I'm not sure the specialist system will make the game unplayable or unenjoyable. Despite the bad press I gave BFV a shot and ended up getting nearly 2,000 hours out of it. I'm OK with wildly different and while I love the class system I'm not married to it. In the end I just want to flank some fools, rocket some helis, knife some campers, and cap some flags. If 2042 has that, I'm happy.

From the day that live services came into gaming, the games are not fully playable with bugs and etc. In the past, you had to make a game that works really fine otherwise you couldn't repair it or make it work at least and it could effect your selling policy. Nowdays , they sell a half game product just for the money with the hope they could fix it properly in the future. I'm so disgusted with the companies and the gaming industry just because of that.

the game is simply not up to the hype, and clearly not ready for release too, and also i think the beta did more harm than good on that front.

I feel the all out warfare experience will get annoying for me fast because of the giant maps. BF portal might feel off as well because it won't feel like the main game

There's this strange switch going on on RU-vid with the Battlefield creators. Although AKA-ART has been around for years, the major names like JackFrags no longer feel trustworthy when it comes to hearing opinions on BF games, because us and Jack all know his bank account overflows with every positive statement he makes about Battlefield. I prefer watching these people who feel so much more like just another person playing a Battlefield game, rather than Jack trying to turn every gameplay into a trailer. No hate on Jack though. Forever one of the greats and an inspiration to so many.

I'm getting more of a call of duty vide from this game than a battlefield vibe.

After BF2 I moved my gaming to console. While the gameplay was great on BF4, the console performance from my PS4 was quite limited. I'm just excited to have a modern Battlefield title on console.

The medic in the clips isnt going for any revives. This is the type of team play bf will now be.

From my point of view, it was always about conquest and rush (back in the past). Portal and other stuff are a bonus for me, because bf3 servers are still alive. The thing that I'm worried about the most is pace of the game. From what I have seen it looks like the fastest BF out there, almost matching apex and warzone (remember slow bf3?). You could say, thats OK because You like fast pace (BF4). However if You add to the mix specialists that can climb roofs from 30+ meters with a rope (almost as OP as WH in one of the other specialists) or a wingsuit man with 500m range from the top of the building, it is going to be a big mess. I feel like BF is chasing CoD because of fail of BFV. The problem is that right now BFV is a great game but it was not 2/3 years ago when decisions about BF2042 were made, it was just unplayable from technical point of view. I will get my copy for sure but i feel like we lost that BATTLEFIELD thing right there. For me this thing is to play a big match of conquest with a team, not have 1v1 pvp everytime I see an enemy (in the video the enemies all are all over the place as the friendly soldiers are)

thumbs up from me. I'm pretty frustrated with the UI and design decisions on this game, absolutely mental. I like the gunplay, and gameplay, but I've considering cancelling pre order. Its going to have forced TXAA Blur as well, and the same characters on each team is really annoying. When the release new specialist the whole server will be playing one skin

I mean if they look at CoD the "specialists" are available only in standard modes. When you play ground war you use the standard soldier. Why DICE could not do the same? Specialists for Hazard Zone and standards troops for the other modes...

I'm sure in the bfv promotion they went on about how classes were 1 of the pillars of battlefield. Would love to find that clip again.

actually i would be pretty interested to see how this plays out, sometimes i do miss having specialists while playing traditional classes, like since bf3 there were times i wished to have something more than just regular class locked gadgets, but it was limiting i think if dice does it right it can free up alot of choise and make the gameplay of battlefield even more diverse and interesting

I for one am always hyped for any modern day shooter, I’ve always been a fan of it. When I seen the reveal for BF1 I was really upset, I couldn’t enjoy the game just for the cat that it was not a modern day. Same with BF5 I was twice as more let down knowing it wasn’t a modern day. When MW19 dropped I honesty lost my shit at how beautiful it looked and played, I still do think that it’s the best CoD in a while. This years BF2042 has me more than hyped, I’ve been a player since bad company so when I seen the trailer I was so happy. I can care less how the beta was and how many people complain, I’m going to enjoy a game that I’ve been waiting YEARS for. I’d just say to give the game time, I myself know that it’s probably not ready for launch but they can always fix it.

I lost the fire after the BF4 launch mess. I did enjoy BF4 after the CTE experience was nearly complete, but I just don't trust the launches at all. So no hype for me, it's just a wait and see a few months after launch sort of thing. Great video, I agree with most of your opinions as well.

What do you want them to tell us about Portal? We have some examples of the games modes or experiences you can create, all the day 1 weapons, gadgets, and vehicles. The only more information I could want is server setting and seeing the logic editor in full but those are thing that the average player couldn’t care less about.

Honestly im hyped but i dont think i will ever have as fun in this as i had in BF3, not because this is a worse game but just because that fun factor is hard to achieve. I dont expect it to be the best game ive ever played but i think the couple of hundred hours i put into it will be ok and worth the time

All of these new games are implementing heroes, a.k.a. specialists. We don’t need these people, can’t we just play as default soldiers?? Go ahead and implement specialists in hazard zone, but leave them out of conquest and so on. If anything, if they want to have specialists in conquest, make them limited. If someone wants to be Casper on one team, make only that one person to be able to be him. I don’t want to see you 60 of the same people. That is why default mil-sim characters work. It’s a mystery, you can imagine anyone behind a mask, you can be whoever you want behind that mask. With specialists, there’s none of that.

To be honest mate I still play 4, just can't feel the same about the others. Current games try far to hard. Too many gimmicks.

No class systems, wall hack perks, aimbot nades is a tough pill to swallow for old pc BF players.

Nice video! Other issue with portal is that it will probably with the 2042 gameplay. What i mean is according to the beta and how terrible vehicules gameplay was (especially jets and choppers) and how important vehicules are in BF games, i can't see this game mode working.

This game onistly needs 6months to 1 year delay if we onet this game to actually be eny good.

This is one of those things where we all have our own thoughts, personally I'm really excited, I've been wanting a more modern Era battlefield since 4 (granted this one is ahead of reality but nonetheless) I understand though why concerns. I enjoyed the beta game play, the only issue was the servers were not optimized enough. I'm just taking in everything and trying to not make too much judgment before it has a chance, that's just my opinion though. I hope this lives up to your standard and all the other creator's standards, even though it most likely won't, I still would like to see the creators I've followed for years on this game and enjoying it. Back to BF1, never ever pre-order any battlefield game again. Bought the bf5 ultimate and bf2042 gold edition, literally a waste of money.

It’ll take time as all of them did. But there’s a lot of potential for fun if you can make what you want in portal. Hope the game mechanics also remain on whatever game base you import into portal. So basically playing bf3 on any map you want (inc new ones) and hopefully bf4 added later. Still got hope :)

I am excited becuase finally we will have a new big fast-pace FPS that is not a BR .

I'm hyped 4 it. I am one of the 16 people who liked the beta. I do expect some issues on release. No game is going to be 100%perfect on release. I just hope it's not as patch reliant as BfV was.

I am slightly more optimistic in general but basically agree on all of your points. I will play the shit out of the game regardless though, even if I end up only playing certain modes and maps. It will probably be a tough first 6 months....hopefully after the big "oh this will fix ABC issues and XYZ balance" patch things are optimized.

I personally am a bit tired of the WW2 setting atm, and I know portal is just gonna be a bunch of WW2 vs Modern. And also, I can’t be bothered sitting there nerding my ass of tweaking this and that option by 0,1% or a tiny bit here and there. I’m a gamer. I enjoy games. I’m not a game designer, joining random people’s servers with THEY’RE personal preference of what’s fun, just isn’t my cup of tea. So for me, the hyped died with the Beta, realizing the game is going to be full of stupid specialists and micro transactions, and the only way to enjoy this is probably going to be with portal, which sadly, isn’t going to be good either.

I miss the days when changes were made to games for the benefit of gameplay rather than trying to extract as much money out of the player as possible. The removal of the class system is the clearest example of this that I have ever seen.

All they had to do was basically update bf4 and mix in the best parts of bf1 and bf5 in there. But of course EA found a way to potentially fuck it up. Still optimistic tho, simply cuz of portal

Exactly in the same mood. I assume , with what we have seen with this specialists , the spirit of BF is imo in Portal and not in the 2042 main content. Hope we will get some custom servers with the classic classes with the 2042 stuff without specs.

Same for me bf 2042 is the last chance for dice that they prove to us veteran bf players that they still can make a great BF game otherwise I will leave the franchise
