Why I'm not quitting YouTube (yet) 

I so wish I had these podcasts when I was younger. My life would be very different. At age 64, I feel very lost and alone. I had a similar group of friends, there were 4 of us myself, Jon, Kevin and Tim. You remind me of how we were. Sadly to say it was the 1980’s and I am the only one left. AIDS was devastating and took my friends. So much of what you discussed I felt as a young man in my early 20’s. Life events have brought me to where I am at today, isolated and searching. I have been questioning everything about my life; the people, places and things I let define me. I am watching this and it has me reflecting on my life. I realized I am lonely and haven't found my tribe or community. Not even sure where to begin. These podcasts have given me the insight to look deeper. Thanks for giving me the space to write this and the insight to find my “why”.

Hey Thomas. I’ve never commented on a video since it always feels as though creators are these mythical beings but something about this video talking directly to the camera on a second channel made me snap out of it. As you’ve probably heard many times, I grew up all through high school, and college, with you guys. But it’s more than that - I also grew up in France. I went to the same Lycée as you did I believe (I wonder if you did American or Swedish section?) I went to McGill. I moved to California right after, and I’m now beginning an entrepreneurial journey where I’m having to decide whether I want to go down a wild long shot VC-backed path, or instead choose perhaps to protect my peace, get to travel, set my own pace and direction… Some obvious details differ, but as I stumble my way through life, it does feel like I often end up looking for the trail you’ve blazed, maybe for inspiration, maybe just as an example, who knows. I just wanted to tell you that, regardless of what the future might hold for yes theory, for you or for me, you’ve left an indelibly positive mark on me and many like me, and will keep doing so for as long as you choose to share your musings and adventures. So, thank you for everything.

I think a really cool idea would be a "podcast" style accompaniment to some of the "Yes Theory" style videos in other countries with the people you find or come across. I'm always absolutely fascinated by the people y'all come across and always want to hear more of their stories. I think it could be a thing that brings even more impact to the stories you guys tell with your adventures.

Thomas, your storytelling is very personal and inspiring. Change is something that is constant in our lives. Yes Theory stories are something that I always look forward to watching in youtube and seeing you guys change and learn at the same time is a story worth watching and learning from. I am a 40+ guy who survived a stroke and still recovering. It changed my life drastically. And watching your videos helped me through and push forward in a positive way. Please don’t quit! You are so personal that you make all your videos so much love and funny. With you and your friends they make me so happy to watch. It also showed the world around us and the people that live there. But I can see how unhappy you can become considering what is going on in the world right now. But you all are so beautiful and happy to watch. The things and places make me so envious to do what I was never been able to do. I’m now 61 and not great health wise but I wish I could have done everything you’ve been through in my life. I love you guys.

This is great and I agree wholeheartedly. I've been "on" RU-vid for over 18 years as a viewer and have always known I want to be a creator but have never pushed myself to do for fear it will be more out of pressure than joy, especially in the last 5 years seeing so many of my favourite creators leave the platform. This year I decided I NEED to create and post on RU-vid and am currently working on doing so. Happy to hear your not leaving anytime soon and hope to interview you for my channel some day soon. Adulting lessons with Thomas. I love it! This is geninely so important for all of us in different ways. Sustainable growth and changes, and really listening to deep soul needs over the assumed needs of those around you is major. As for format, I'd enjoy visually if you spread your conversation with us over different local locations that you love. Hey Thomas, happy to see this format of more open discussion and a reflection journey.I turned 30 last week , suddenly it feels like I have to get my life on track and do the things I want.This is the time. I am currently reading Matt's book, it gave me the strength to say yes for a meetup with my college friends which I have been avoiding since few years. Thanks for sharing your journey. I have realised we want very simple things in life like you said peace ,better health, a positive work environment. I am taking small steps like trying to write things which will enable me to achieve these.Hope we sail through the 30s as a more calm and happy human :) Cheers

I guess i hope that you and your close ones in this changing project find your ever new way to show what it is you now have to show for this time of being older and and this time for humanity. I can also say ive never felt more "up in the air" than now and this last 6 months as of mid april 2024. I really appreciate this video, because I've thought a lot about how yes theory has grown and changed. It really feels like the channel grown with you guys. How each video is moving, and profound but with doing that you risk losing those people that subscribed for the other type of content. There's no right way to do it. The videos these days have amazing storytelling and production, but how can one not miss those simple videos of asking strangers on the street. It's a risk, but i think you guys have really found your creative direction that moves away from just another video on youtube.

I’ll watch whatever you choose to share whenever you choose to share it. Your travels are very interesting and you seem to have a unique ability to get to a deeper level with the people you engage with. Take care of yourself, and know that those of us who are curious will continue to support the channel, or whatever channel you may branch off with.

Found yes theory after my surgery which has floored me for a month - and made me realise how much I’ve been in fear and in avoidance of my own desires… to say yes, to dream, to just do things for myself , I am inspired - because I have never really written for myself…I always write for someone else, I always did projects and added onto others, helped others but never wanted anything for myself, despite having amassed resources…. But through your videos Thomas, and Yes Theory, it’s godsend at a time when I moved into a deep contemplation. Thank you thank you. Massive love to you guys and hope one day to cross paths

I really appreciated this video and your heart shared vulnerably Thomas. I can see how YesTheory still has the philosophy of seeking things outside our comfort zone inside the travel videos. But it does feel like its purpose has changed more to discovering humanity deeply, around the world. Rather than creating videos about people seeking discomfort. And as sad as it is to let go of what was, I am happy to see you guys feel free to develop. I guess its more like a nostalgic longing for me to hold on to the videos that continued to delve into seeking discomfort in new ways. Pushing the limits of what our limited brains think we can experience in life.

Grateful for your content man! It has been inspiring and helped me with my mental health. I find myself in a phase of burnout. I'm a partner in a business that is finally seeing some great success. It was such a grind for the first years though I'm having a hard time truly enjoying it. The business is in an industry I have been a part of for over 10-years though which may play a role there. I'm always looking to grow and improve though on my journey so I know there will be other great things on the horizon.

I think people gloss over the stress and the weight of feeling pressured to perform at such a high level every single week. You made the right choice. Mental health and the joy of what you can give to your work is far more important. We, your true fans, are willing to wait and watch as you evolve and even if it’s slower…it’s definitely worth the wait. You have been soooo influential in my family’s lives in such a positive way, and for this I am grateful!

Love this resonates so deeply, I’m in the process of getting into a rhythm of authentic expression through my channel. I have so many ideas and remind myself to focus on the bigger picture my dream for my life.

Love the reflection. I'm a teacher and I reached that point multiple times of thinking "more!". I want to make my lessons better, but never at the price of my mental health. I used to be part of every and all projects within the school. This year, I dialed back all non-mandatory projects and I started writing down my ideas for better lessons and slowly digging into those only when there is time. If there is no time, I don't try to add evenings of my work to my busy schedule. I'm also working on a book about my first few years as a teacher as a tool for reflection for new teachers coming into the workforce.
