I'm 50 ish and single and have been for some time. In this video I talk about why I'm still single and why that's Ok. I also play with dolls and make a weird cereal metaphor.

I've been married for 21 years and am 46 years old. So, I cannot relate to being uncoupled and middle aged, but I can totally see myself being in a similar situation if something was to happen to my husband. I do have a church family, however, most of them are a lot older than me. The age of the internet is bittersweet. On the one hand, we can connect with people we otherwise would never know, yet on the other, we have fewer personal connections in "real life". Blessings to you. Just keep being you. 😊

Thanks for your message. Things certainly do feel more complicated these days, but that's OK. Have a great day !

"Single on purpose" I should have used that in my title! Thanks for the comment I wonder if you think there are any important things I missed or didn't mention, like maybe the benefits of being single?

LOL! ... Your video is great as it is, to me. I think my personality type just gets lost if I'm with someone full time bc I'm too passive and introverted. Keep up the great videos. Thanks!@@awkwardgenius

as a young adult the urge to couple, have children, establish who you are as an adult, your place in society, career, lifestyle is a necessary transition into adulthood. coupling, marriage, children, nesting is a huge part of it. by mid-40’s (and older) it’s another transition. more of a reflection of what the person has learned about themselves and the life they wish to live. priorities change, likes & dislike become fine tuned and a deeper acceptance of the adult you have become begins to happen. I think it’s a natural progression into finding your bliss and if being single is blissful, enjoy! ❤

Wow thank you for this thoughtful response, it's right on. I 've heard about people get more comfortable being themselves around 50 and it's so nice that we get that (along with glasses, baldness and our friends getting cancer...). Basically, being single doesn't bother me in the least, so I'm sticking with it

@@awkwardgenius thank you & so glad you’re living your happiness. I’m realizing now that love will find a way when and if I’m ready. it was a struggle at times but I’m content. the one downside, I forget that I can’t talk to myself in public or else I look like a crazy old person! 🤣😁😂 at home no problem👍😂

In the past I never really mastered drawing in kind, caring, emotionally healthy partners. After the last one I threw in the towel. Like you, I actually very much enjoy my alone and quiet time. While I'd love to be in a mutually loving, deep and fun relationship, life has been a lot easier and more enjoyable being single these past several years. Still, at 54 years old, I am starting to open up to what can be the most rewarding and unexpected relationship of my life. It helps to know ourselves a bit more before having a relationship with someone else. I know that you will have that great love story when you are ready for it. You truly are one of the great gems out there!

Welp, I split from my last ex shortly after my 39th birthday. We had been together for 7 years. And in those final years, more downs than ups. I was exhausted in every way. I decided that for the first time (since age 12), I was going to remain single. 11 years on, and I haven't changed my mind.😆 If anything, I'm happier now than ever before. Can't say I've even once felt lonely. I've also not felt even slightly depressed. Which I had struggled with since my early teens. Being alone will never mean we are lonely. I have a full and busy life. I started gardening some years back, and became completely obsessed with it. And as you know, I started making cooking videos (even though I never expected the public to find them). I have peace, I come and go as I please, and I don't have to explain to anyone where I'm going, why, who with, or when I'll be home. I can't speak for others, but these last 11 years have been completely liberating for me. It's very interesting to me, the difference in the way I felt for decades, vs. now. Especially when it comes to dating and/or marriage. I guess I finally grew up and realized that I don't need a male half to make me whole. Now having said that, I will never rule out that it may some day happen again. Although, I go out of my way to remain out of sight.😅 Hope you're doing well! Lol

Thanks for your story. It s always really helpful for me to see how other people handle things. That's why I've started telling my stories because just hearing how others go thtough the same things can be helpful. The magic of RU-vid is that we get to share our stories with people we never would have met otherwise. And if we hadn't met I never would have added beef and bean as a staple at my house 😁

@@awkwardgenius And I would never have known how easy it is to (deep) clean my commode if it gets that bad.😆 I also didn't know until this video that you're an ex pat. But I would like to hear about how it is where you live now. The differences between here and there in terms of stores, or how you grocery shop. And what the weather is like there. Can you garden? Looks like you're on a pretty steep hill. Curious if all of the land there is like that? I live in the flat south. We have a lot of pine trees. But, it's gotten almost too hot here in summer to have the garden I really dream of.

@@SouthernGardening50 i've got a video coming out in 2 weeks about living in France but it's more big picture stuff or generalities. It's a great idea to do something more 'kitchen table' or day to day...

@@awkwardgenius Interesting, as I’m divorced European living in uk with daughter moving to college, and was looking to acquire a small house and spend part year in France, and I like cooking, although I was directed to your pension video after watching others on pensions last night!
