So happy to see an update on your book! I hope the romance reader community loves it 💞 Also. Natalia: "Mew is here. I think, wanting more food." Mew: "Yes." 😆

Wow, I have so many thoughts. First, yes! This is the way to go. Last year I put out my debut indie novel (basically a novella) that was supposed to be a rom com but fell short of the genre because I ended up too much in my head about family and friends reading it. I have since pulled it, am revising, and have decided to repub under a pen name and not tell anyone. I really ruined my first experience because of the weight of knowing other people would read it, and I can't wait to do everything again with a novel that fits its genre and is without the weight of my name. I so wish I had done this the first time around.

Just found this video after watching your 2023 wrap up. I think if you're writing in a genre like romance, a pen name is a good idea. It means the right readers finding your book, meaning good reviews - which is really important in such an established genre! People who have read your other books might not have the same expectations. I know RU-vid comments are saying they are sad they'll never read your work. I challenge that by saying if they enjoy that type of writing they'll find it, even unknowingly! Go for it. I find that freedom in writing fanfiction. Wishing you all the best in 2024!

Wow Natalia I REALLY hope this works out for you and I'm VERY sorry that I, along with so many of your other followers on this channel will not have access to your upcoming novel. I'm sad and disappointed with your decision but wish you well going forward with the publication of your novel. Take care.

So, if you don't release your pen name to the public, how do you advertise your romance books? Do you already have established social media for your pen name so you can advertise? If someone who wanted to do the same thing with switching up names, but didn't have established socials for that, how should they advertise it? Great video btw 😊

I totally understand people's reasons for using pen names, but it's also a huge bummer to me as a romance reader that a hunch of authortubers I've always enjoyed, but haven't been interested in their books, are finally writing a genre I'm actually interested in, and I can't read them. Although I don't read spicy romance, so I guess maybe this doesn't apply here. But still, it's a bit of a bummer. Kate Cavanaugh did the same thing. Finally started writing a genre I was interested in, but won't tell her audience what her pen name is. Which... I mean, as an author I get it. But as a reader and a fan of some of these people on RU-vid, it's a little disappointing to be excluded from being able to read their books unless we happen to stumble upon them.

Makes absolutely no sense. They must not want anyone to read them. Plus, if you're using a fake name, that means you're embarrassed about it. (Unless you're talking about things like nonfiction books exposing something and you're afraid of backlash. Or people in countries where you could be arrested or worse. That type of situation.)

I won't read spicy romance either. It is the quickest way to get me to close a book. I checked out your channel. I think I might look into your book. Maybe support other indie romance authors out there. 😊

@Yesica1993 The main reason I plan to use a pen name is because I plan to write in different types of genres, young adult paranormal, & adult contemporary romance (spicey and nonspicey). If someone really enjoys 1 of my books and want something similar, I don't want them accidentally getting a completely different genre because they just chose another book in my backlist. 1 author name for my romance books, and a different name for my YA books. I think this is the more common reason people use pen names. Though I do think another common 1 is that some people have jobs that could be effected if it was known they wrote what they do, or judgmental family.

I recently started releasing some music under an alias for the same reason. I wanted a chance to experiment and do whatever I wanted without it having any sort of impact on my already established composing career. And since starting I’ve already released 3 singles, and it felt really good to get to take chances without fear of failure. I hope this gives you a chance to scratch some different creative itches!

I know that some of your channel subscribers and current readers are a little disappointed about your pen name, but I think you are making the right choice! Looking forward to following this new chapter in your publishing journey ☺

Hey Natalia, well I must say it's a bit of a bummer that you can't reveal the title or pen name for this book. I was looking forward to checking it out. I get it though, you want to make sure it ends up finding the people who are looking for this kind of story instead of those who might overlook it because it doesn't fit their usual genre searches. It's a shame that there isn't a better system for all that, but such is the way of things. In any case, I'm happy to see you're so close to publication. This one really came together pretty fast! Here's hoping it's a success! Cheers! 😁

I feel you on the penname in that nobody knows and you're not really constrained by anything, whether it be outside factors or stuff like the Amazon algorithm you mentioned. I'm gonna use one purely so my family don't know 😂

If you're so ashamed of what you are writing, maybe it's a clue from your conscience that you shouldn't be writing it.

@@Yesica1993 mine aren't shame reasons I'm just a private person (bit of an oxymoron I know since books go out to lots to people xD)

Do you have a checklist that new authors can use? It's overwhelming all the things you have to do in the initial set up xxx

Thanks for posting another awesome video Natalia! I wanted to add some input about pen name for anonymity. I write steamy romance and publish under an LLC. What I learned is in many states if you start an LLC, your legal name is public record and attached to the LLC. I had to file a double LLC in WY to avoid this.

I write under a pen name because events are often based on my real life, not to flattering for some characters. I always change the names though👍🏼

I would... no will...😊 use a penname to keep the children's stories separate from the romance. And be a bit more anonymous 😂.

Such a smart move! Romance is huge and most romance readers are whale readers for that particular genre.

I always thought a pen name was for an author to write a different genre than what theyre known for, not to necessarily hide their true identity. Such as i know j.d. robb is written by nora roberts but its a different genre that what she writes under her real name. If i had a pen name, id announce what it is because id expect people to know that it wouldnt be the same as what i normally write under my real name
