Bought the same bike about 2 weeks ago Russ loving it so far. Had pretty much given up on cycling due to a back injury but the Domane's geometry and isospeed have made a massive difference. 🙏

There so good aren’t they. I’m doing my first biggish ride on the bike tomorrow to Blackpool. I’ve done it a few times before so it’ll give me a sense of how good this bike is on long rides. I’m really loving the bike so far though

I also just got a new Domane about 3 months ago. I ended up splurging for the SLR 7 gen 4. I came from 7 years of riding a Cervelo S2 Ultegra. The fit for me is incredibly comfortable. I have shorter arms and longer legs making the Domane a near perfect geometry. I’m 5’8” and riding the 54mm. The only gripe I had with the bike were the garbage Bontrager tubeless tires. One tire started getting a bulge and Trek was kind enough to warranty them. Apparently there have been some factory defects lately. I now run 32mm GP 5000 tubeless and what an improvement! I really like the longer wheel base too compared to the Cervelo. It just handles so smoothly especially around corners. I don’t really feel or notice to much speed loss from riding 25mm tires for so long. But the ride comfort and lower pressure allows me to hit a little gravel too. Best of all, the upper left neck pain I always got on the Cervelo is mostly gone now with this slightly more relaxed geometry.

I’m in the process of getting some new tyres for the bike and I’m jumping back to 32mm I put my 28mm on there but want the bigger tyre back now. I agree with your points. It’s certainly a great bike. The SLR looks mega mate

I've had my SL5 in the same colors since March of 22. Love it. Same experience as you on the sizing. Trek wanted to put me in a 54 based on my height, but the 52 just felt loads better as my inseam also suggested a 52. Couple of quality of life bits that I've done to mine- 3D printed a mount for my Varia radar that screws into the blendr mount holes on the back of the Versa seat. I swapped the front blendr mount to a duo with my computer living on the upper mount and the headlight (non-Trek) on the lower using some gopro extensions for clearance. The 32mm tires went away fairly quickly. They had an annoying tendency to find any bit of glass and take a nasty gash. Currently running a pair of 35mm Vittorias. There was a little trade off in watts/mph, but the increase in comfort and reliability have been more than worthwhile. No issues with the iso-speed creaking on mine. Trek did tell me to keep an eye on the torque setting on both isospeeds when I brought it in for a winter service (The local shop gave me a credit for one when I bought the bike). Just an item to check when you do your regular maintenance. Everything else has been an absolute joy.
@CyclingwithRuss
@CyclingwithRuss Год назад
Sounds mega mate. Where did you get the mount for the rear seat from ? I’ve been looking but can’t find one. I’m currently running 28mm GP5000 with tubes but going to be chainring them once worn for at least a 30mm. How do the 35 feel in terms of response ?

You’ve made a great choice there Russ! 😜 She looks beautiful in that colourway. Just one bit of advice, protect the paintwork at all costs. It marks really easy, more so than any other bike I’ve owned. Particularly the crossbar. It’s worth investigating in some decent polish and silicone spray to keep her looking new. You don’t want to see a close up of mine, O can assure you. My paintwork doesn’t look too dissimilar to that road surface at the end!! I thought the roads around here were bad, but I’ve seen another cheese heaters!! 😂 Welcome to the Club!
@CyclingwithRuss

She certainly is a stunner mate. I don’t think I’ve seen a colour from trek I don’t like. I’ve got the gtechniq ceramic coating to apply to it at some point today. That road surface is bad mate. I love how the bike soaks a lot of the bumps out though. It’s a great club to be in matey 😍

Thanks for the video. I jumped from a mountain bike to the Trek FX3. Great for commuting and touring, it's comfortable enough to encourage longer rides, but the speed isn't what road bikes are, so I'm looking into the Domane, now.

@@CyclingwithRuss My bike journey. I've owned a couple mountain bikes and only road with the kids. Because of the discomfort of the bike - soreness, etc. I just assumed I'm one of those guys for whom cycling isn't a thing. I could never imagine riding for more than a few miles. This past April I bought the FX3 because I bike to work but was tired of using the moutain bike, and it opened my eyes. Body position on the FX is way more comfortable, and now I'm riding rides of 40+ miles. The FX is great for commuting and touring, but now that I want to ride longer and longer rides, I want the Domane for this purpose. It looks like the Domane is the way to go. I've committed to only ride the FX for the next 6 months because I just bought it, and I have two daughters getting married in the next year, but I know I'll be on a Domane at some point. I'll watch for your 12 month review!

Glad you had better luck than l did. Bought a new 2023 Trek SL5 and after 10 miles the bike started making a loud creaking sound from the Iso speed area. The dealer spent 2 hours trying to fix it and then told me Trek had a bulletin out regarding this problem. I was lucky there was a ten day refund policy I jumped at! The first 10 miles I loved the bike, but should have listened to others who have had this problem!

Thanks for the video Russ. Strangely enough I'm going through exactly the same thought processes as you did when looking for a bike. I've gone full circle, Trek Domane, then considered the Emonda, then Cannondale and Giant and now back to Domane. I want something fast, but comfortable for when I do longer rides. I'm also 185 cm and inseam 84cm and not getting any younger. Trek suggests 58cm is correct size for me, but seemed a little overstretched in the arms, however when I sat on a 56cm, it seemed a bit short especially when in an more aero position. It's a great bike and the colour of yours in superb. I guess I'll have to properly test ride both sizes and make a decision.
@CyclingwithRuss
@CyclingwithRuss Год назад
No problem mate! I reckon that a shorter bike can easily be made into a more aero bike with longer stem and pushing the seat back. However I rode a ride on Sunday to Blackpool (no video) and I was easily holding 20-25 mph on the flats and the day after I could have done the ride again. I firmly believe that this bike is a perfect all rounder. But it is worth testing them out if you can.

I literally had my heart set on building a custom 2019 Domane SLR. I found a website with older 2019 model year frames for a discounted rate. By the time I was ready to pull the trigger, the 52cm I needed was gone. I had to settle for a discounted 2019 Madone SLR frameset if you can believe it. I know it's world's different from the Domane, but I'm getting used to the lower front end, and with wider tires and IsoSpeed, it isn't as uncomfortable as my previous Fuji Gran Fondo Racey/endurance bike. It's no Domane SLR when it comes to comfort, but the Madone SLR is a hell of a bike to settle on.

I was debating the Madone as it’s such a good bike. If I had the room and money I’d get one. The trek bikes though are so good.

If anyone reading this is considering buying a Ribble, I would recommend trying a size down from your normal. The combined reach of Ribble frames and the stock integrated bars are much longer than normal. Comparing my 52 ribble and 52 Tarmac, the Ribble turned out to be 15mm longer top tube reach. The original bar reach is also longer than normal and they’re integrated so changing them isn’t cheap or straight forward.
