Hey Alyssa fans, I recently hired her as a developmental editor. Her insight into character development and inter connecting relationships has been extremely helpful. Also, I’m benefitting from her expertise in the nitty gritty of story structure. I highly recommend her services. The only downside is I’ll be spending my summer improving my novel! Thanks Alyssa. Brian
You made the right decision. You have helped me personally with some of my projects and I'm just one of thousands who follow you. Nothing more needs to be said.
You certainly look happy in your videos. being a huge help giving us useful information on how to write better and how the industry works. I know I have been happy since I quit self publishing. Sure I make no sales anymore but rather no sales than losing money on ads with no results because this field is just frustrating to deal with. Still hope to get an agent and I think I will get one eventually because of your help. Greetings from Australia.
Love this Alyssa, thank you for sharing your experience! I've recently gone freelance with my publishing career and your video really resonated with me 🙏
Thanks Alyssa, I've come to value your advice and a little background information is always helpful. Having done this in 2018 it seems you were very much a trend setter! Since the pandemic thousands of people in this country have followed in your footsteps.
especially loved the part about tuning into the creative process, which is the ultimate sort of free-lancing, methinks! Doing what you love ain't easy, but doing it with others who are doing what they love is good for the soul, society, and the world writ large... oh god there I go again! :)
Coming into the publishing world blind, your videos are greatly appreciated. I just finished drafting the final chapter of my trilogy! Finally publishing is an exciting prospect, but a daunting one. Thanks again for your help!
Thank you for sharing, Alyssa! I have taken a look into what genres you are taking up for querying; I know it may not be a direct match with the current WIP but thank you for all your help and guidance in the publishing world! When I finish my manuscript I'll be sure to go the traditional publishing route. Take care and enjoy freelance editing! I'm thinking of going into freelance writing actually as well!
Hey, I’m relatively new to your channel and I was wondering if you would possibly consider doing a video on how to create your own publishing company as well as the pros and cons of this.
Alyssa, I’ve been watching your videos since you first posted! I love how informative you are about everything in the publishing world. Would you ever consider working with fantasy authors?
Ha, ha, ha, working for a corporation is appealing, but some people value freedom more. I've always prioritized writing over a career, so I've always worked in non-demanding places to have more time and energy for writing. I may not earn a lot and I can't afford foreign vacations or dinners in expensive restaurants, but at least I'm free and do what I want :) Good luck as a freelancer!
This video means a lot to me. It seems your resume is LEGIT but not very long in the industry. So ive been a bit suspicious of your credibility after being in the field less than 10 years all together. Social media still has a legitimacy stigma.
I’m kind of worried about Alyssa getting married and having kids, and getting too busy and then dropping off youtube. It’s happened to several RU-vid creators I followed through the years. 😬
It sounds like you now mostly help authors who will need to self publish. Yet all your videos are directed to advice about how to be published by one of the Big 5. Can you do some videos about self publishing, or is that beyond your expertise?
I’ve asked you this question before Alyssa- have you ever written a book? You never answer this question. I guess the answer to be no. You say that you have a degree in creative writing. Why haven’t you written your own book? There’s a fact that agents turn down 99% of budding authors- the reason for this is that 99% of books in todays world don’t make back their publishing costs. Publishers make their money on their back catalogue of books. They’re really not interested in new authors unless they have celebrity status.
@@clintoreilly yeah I did miss that. What did she say the reason to be why she hasn’t written a book? I’m really curious to know why a person who has a creative writing degree hasn’t managed to write anything, but is able to give others her expertise on writing a book. Everything is easy in theory but in practice it’s something else. It proves that just because you have a degree in creative writing, doesn’t make you a writer. You have to possess imagination. You don’t need any degree to have that.
