I never go anywhere without a Victorinox. Today I repaired a broken PVC pipe and used the metal saw to cut it. Outstanding saw. Don’t know how people that carry a Spyderco, Ontario knife and the like could do that job.

@@whatmakesittick8362Exactly what I've done my whole career as an ecologist. CARRY an edc knife (usually a Spyderco Paramilitary 2) in the pocket and Victorinox (usually a Camper or Handyman) in the backpack. Superb tools!

@@tonysa2337I also carry a PM2 daily. It’s my forever knife now. I’ve had full collections of Benchmade, Spyderco, and SAKs. Along with many others. But I sold most all of my collections and now I’m down to about a dozen now. The PM2 is the best overall knife for my uses. I now carry it with Ti scales, and have a Minichamp also with Ti scales as EDC.

Can't agree more. The tool that you have access to is the one that gets used. I have a Victorinox in my pocket for almost 30 years. Even during conscript time i had one in my pocket, and it got's loads of use. (It was also the time where i used the can opener more than in the 29 other years, because it was far superior to the issued one) And during school, internships and at work it has come in handy so often. Sure it's always better to use the tool that's made for the job. But when the tool is not available, or you would have to drive for an hour, or climb down a 40m antenna mast to get the right tool... My Victorinox knives have "installed" telephone sockets, have helped me put connectors on coax cables, have freed children of cords that they wrapped to tight around their hands...

I live in northern Canada and am in and out of the bush daily, for 15 years I carried a Farmer, and just recently switched to a Hiker. In the hunting season I pair the SAK with a hunting knife, and the rest of the year I swap the big knife for a hatchet. There's not too many problems in the backcountry that cant be solved with a Farmer and a Hatchet. Since the dry Canadian winters wreck havoc on your nails, I also keep a Classic on my keys for emergency surgery.

My favorites are the Alox Pioneer X and Farmer X. I live in an urban environment and work in an office, so I don't need a lot of tools, and these two suit me fine and ride comfortably in my dress pants pocket. You can't go wrong with Victorinox! I'm not a collector as such but I do own 9 of them in 58, 74, 91, 93 and 111mm sizes, and I'm not going to stop buying more! Paired up with a Knipex Cobra XS pliers an SAK is a viable alternative to a Leatherman or other pliers-based multitool. Being in the UK I can't carry locking blades so I am limited in which Leatherman etc. I can legally carry and the legal carry full-size LM I do own, the Bond, rusts terribly even though I spray it with WD40 regularly so it's not in my EDC rotation.
@TheFossilChannel
@TheFossilChannel Год назад
that is a good combo. i find that having a good pair of 58mm or 74 mm vics with scissors is good combined with a leatherman
@greekveteran2715

Cobra 150 is still a pocket size edc tool.that can offer a lot more than the tiny models,that are only good for how cute they look. I own all the sizes, but I never carry the 125 or xs. At work I carry 180 size and the 150 is always on me when I'm not at work.
@simonh6371
@simonh6371 Год назад
@@greekveteran2715 Sorry but I disagree about the smaller model Knipex Cobras not being capable. It's for EDC and I'm not dismantling trucks with it. I often hear about how they lack leverage compared to large Leathermans but that's simply not true, the Cobra XS lock on to the object you are gripping and you only have to apply pressure to the upper handle. In theory - and it's been done in practice - you can put your entire bodyweight on it by standing on the handle. The Cobra XS are also great for fine jobs or in small spaces, for example I can change the coil on my tiny vape pen without removing the glass mantle, I couldn't do that with a 150 Cobra or in fact any full sized pliers.

I couldn't believe how much difference the the key ring does on the ergos and mostly on the feel of the tool. I much prefer the Swiss army 7(Harvester)because of that!! Completely different tool,but the toolset is almost the same.
@bushleague3472
@bushleague3472 7 месяцев назад
I've found that in actual use, that key ring is negligible. Ergo's mostly become vital when doing heavy carving, but the pressure is mostly focused into two points... at the front of the grip between the thumb and forefinger, and the fingers curled under the rear portion of the grip. While the keyring seems like a hot spot when just handling the tool, in actual use I've never had it cause noticeable discomfort.
@greekveteran2715
@greekveteran2715 7 месяцев назад
Have you ever had the Harvester though? If you haven't, you can't understand how big difference it makes, in any kind of grip or use.,that keyring, is always there,where the Harvester, is like a completely different tool without it,your hands would never go to the Farmer, if you had the Harvester, you'd always opt, for the Harvester.!@@bushleague3472

One thing to point out about the lite LED is that it's not really meant to substitute a flashlight. It's more like a working light for something that's right in front of you. The one on the cybertool is just right for illuminating something that is a bit driver length away. And yeah, you're spot on about the transparent one being more neutral. The grey can be annoying when you want to combine it with different color scales. ;-)

I often hear or read that certain RU-vid knife people say victorinox Swiss Army knife steel is very soft , and they don’t seem to rate the steel itself. They tend to say that generally Swiss Army knives are very useful, however they don’t seem to like the stainless steel. I myself love it , it’s tough enough for me doesn’t seem to rust and keeps an edge for what I consider a good amount of time. I would love to know what you think 🤔. Very comprehensive video and enjoyable. I think 🤔 the choice of steel is perfect 👍🏻
@sadisticD
@sadisticD 4 месяца назад
It's not the best at keeping an edge but it's easy to sharpen. I think what a lot of knife reviewers miss is how little you actually use the knife in a Swiss. I have an Explorer and I use the small blade for packaging, the scissors for several cutting tasks, and even the awl for scraping and puncturing which doesn't leave the main blade being used for a lot of tasks which let's it stay sharp for a long time.
