Why I Renounced Alpha Phi Alpha & The Truth of Black Greek Fraternities and Sororities 

I renounced AKA in 2015 and can witness to the freedom one will get. I was chaplain in the chapter too. But thankful to Yah for deliverance and freedom!🙏🏾🔥

Thank you for being humble, surrending to the Spirit of God and being transparent with your story. I attended the Alpha Chapter HBCU. As an undergraduate student, I was surrounded by those who have taken an oath of some kind to a secret society/organization. I was never interested. I noticed the “privileges and favoritism”. As if you only mattered if you “pledged an Allegiance”. Knowing who I am and being clear of God’s purpose helped me avoid the witchcraft and ritualistic practices. Some of my classmates who took The Oath are clergy and Leaders in the community now. I never understood the need to assume another culture’s identity or hide behind idols. The “elitest” mindset is idolatry. This creates more division and exclusivity in the community. Doing Good doesn’t erase the loyalty to idols and false gods. I could say much more about the behaviors and the symbolism…but I won’t. Homecomings are saturated with the sorority and fraternity activities. The world desperately needs healing and it’s about an individual’s relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Here’s the scripture on branding: “In that day the Lord will snatch away their finery: the bangles and headbands and crescent necklaces, the headdresses and anklets and sashes, the perfume bottles and charms, the fine robes and the capes and cloaks, the purses and mirrors, and the linen garments and tiaras and shawls. Great vid Michael! It’s interesting because young people, 18-21 are making decisions in undergrad while still trying to understand themselves. I’m thinking about doing a similar vid about being a Christian and still affiliated. I view it the same way as organizations that employ us, unless their 100% Bible based. The whole concept of coming to work at 8am, having a boss, submitting to the rules and vision of the job - is in a way ‘ritualistic’. Kudos to you for having the courage to share! 💪🏾🙌🏾

God is touching your heart, and spirit, because the Word tells us, " greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world". I thought about Sororities and Fraternities while attending undergraduate school, but wasn't impressed with it, especially the whole humiliation rituals. It seemed counter productive. I did like the Ques, until I learned about their mindsets. Good for you, following God and your values. Also, why Africans join Greek organizations is also questionable.

I've wondered about the oath scripture when it comes to the military and testifying in court.

This is so great to hear that you denounce your fraternity and I know the devil is a lie, and I too denounce my fraternity kappa from the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff of spring of 1990. All praises be to God the Creator for you answering the call to repent and return unto him which required you to renounce and/or denounce your vows/oaths made with the devil which was is notated in the Initiation Rituals that it was unto Final Judgement. I truly believe and feel comfortable to say that God the Creator is merciful to forgive you all if you wholeheartedly repent and renounce the vows/oaths. When you're at the greek letter altars, Mason/eastern star altars, etc what god are you performing those rituals and ceremonies for? Yeshua Hamashiach (JESUS) is the true light, and we are to put the light on the lamp stand for the world to see. The sororities, fraternities, secret societies all say they have a light, but it's under the lamp stand with a veil. When you cross over what do you think you're crossing over to? When you get your new name who are you? When you take the oath who is it to? Young man I am glad you walked away. As someone that has worked extensively with people in the real Greek community. Some that came over during world War 2? These people, their children and grandchildren know nothing about these Greek fraternities nor sororities. Even if some join because they were born on Americansoil. They told me they think it's weird for the most part. I've been to their Orthodox church, these have nothing to do with their way of life. Maybe looking out for another Greek is the only thing they have on common.

I have never had to renounce my Christian belief as a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. From a peripheral perspective, does one also renounce the teaching of Western Civilization in their school curriculum? Does this mean that those who renounce their membership also will renounce divorce, except as it is defined in the Bible? I am Pro-Choice; however, I despise abortion as a means of birth control. Again, I am not against your decision but am curious about how those who renounce their affiliation with a fraternity or sorority feel about other contradictories of life.

Pledging was never my thing. I can’t imagine turning my back on an organization I did a lot to stay there. I don’t know if it’s right or wrong I never been in one. Humanity has been formed to worship Wether Christian Atheist Buddhist Muslim we all are worshiping something even if we don’t know it. Greek orgs are called Greek for a reason it has roots influence from Greek Mystery Cults from Greek Roman Times also Masonry influenced by the same things. Many times Greek Organizations are pathways that pique interest and guide folks right into masonry. Catholic Church has written lengthy papers on Masonry and denounced it being something Christian’s should associate with long ago.

I wonder why most of these renouncements seem like a lot of these people got into fraternities/sororities did it for the "fun stuff" and walked away because they didn't want to be financial anymore but didn't want to say that. Most of them say "I was financially active until I graduated", never mention anything about community service, or what the primary goal of community service means in being in an organization. Just tell the truth, you didn't get into it for the people; you did it for the clout.

I'm confused. Plenty of Christian were fraternity members without having to renounce their membership. I think individually people lost sight of what the organization is really about. That happens with any group.

As a member of a D9 Fraternity, I can say that my Frat were founded heavily on Christian principles. Without a doubt bar none! I can't give too much information but understanding of Greek and Egyptian Mythology and that it's allegorical will surely help many have clarity on different components of their org!

All this misunderstanding of symbolism, spirituality, and religious faith are very strange. When you pray, where or how do you pray? (In secret) The instructions of God are to know wisdom, knowledge, and DISCRETION. Pledging to be a member of an organization is exactly that, pledging. If you loved your org more than God then just say that. As for me, I love my AKA 💚 God was with me before letters and he’s with me now. You are the master of your fate, God gave us all free will. My heart belongs to God and when i see frat i acknowledge them because there are wonderful things that the frat do and i always enjoy the brotherhood of many of my dear brothers in Christ and out of Christ. This is some bs. Most brothers are not active because the fraternity requires a lot of the members but don't really do shit for them. We don't have a credit card, a bank, a credit union, no national list of professionals to give the black community. Nothing. The fraternity doesn't build you up...but it will take credit for you if you have some success. Look at the Governor of Maryland. People leave the fraternity because all it does is take. There is no major conflict with Alpha and Christianity. In fact, Alpha is the only Black Greek organization that recognize Jesus. We have 3 prongs. The Greeks. The Egyptians, and Jesus.

You don't have to renounce your fraternity or sorority. All you have to do is not be active? And go on with whats important in your life.
