Why I returned to ESO after a 3 year break

It has been some time since I last played ESO and I am so happy to be back! There has been a few changes and additions since 2021 and I wanted to share some of them with you as well as what cool stuff you can claim if you own The Gold Road Chapter or want to purchase it as it currently is on sale for 50% off (the collection with all other previous chapters) on Steam until the 08/10/24. The Fallen Leaves of West Weald event is still active for a few more days as well. Take a look and let me know what your thoughts are on what has changed in the last 3 years. Now if only they'd add flying mounts (or at least hovering mounts) to ESO - I know its probably impossible but one can dream...

I definitely understand that, its hard to find time. Sometimes a choice between sleep and gaming tends to occur but that isn't healthy long-term. I personally have insomnia so I guess gaming is there to keep me busy in the middle of the night..

I subbed you've been playing long enough where you could make some build videos. Like how to complete Vet Vateshran Hollows what class what skills what cp points to use what mithic. No one out there has any good videos on strong builds for arenas or trials for that matter, They just parse on a dummy and say oh ya 133k DPS I say we need more pro players helping us get through arenas. I'm CP like 920 and I can't even beat VVH or VMA. It's bs I wanna know what I'm missing lol.

Thank you for the encouraging comment! I 100% plan on releasing many more videos focusing on ESO, builds, and other common issues and questions I see on the FB and reddit groups. I see its very common for people to struggle with various elements of ESO, whether they are new players or not and many of those people try to copy online builds and still struggle so clearly there is a gap of knowledge that needs to be filled. Thank you for the sub ❤ and I am very excited to be back into playing this game 😁

Howzit!! Fellow South African here.. 😊 Watching your tanking at the end gotta say fair play to your skills,, if you were wondering why your magic was draining more than usual on your frost staff when blocking it’s because you may want to take the passives out of your tri focus passive in destruction staff skill line.. just a little tip from one tank to another 😉

Thank you for the tip, unfortunately my gameplay was lacking and I should've heavy attacked more with the staff than the sword and shield and blocked more with the sword and shield than with the staff. I do still like the tri-focus passive, I just should've been a touch more focused myself :P Also I was using mistakenly using the wrong potions that don't restore magicka, just health and stamina. I'm always fiddling and changing my skills though, I like the consuming trap skill from the soul magic line as well.

@@Dr_uberbabe tbf I thought you smashed it especially as you’ve built a cool looking hybrid solo DK there… I love soloing on my DK.. all good if you know about the tri focus passive already. I just remember it changing a year or so back and it deffo caught out a lot of returning players in my guild especially if you’re a tank and rely on mag sustain can sometimes cause upset in vet trials.. as frost staff is meta again for BB on tanks

@@ruydecarvalho3927 I absolutely love the hybrid solo tank DK build, I tried a stam dps build originally with this character but the current build I have is so much more fun and it is much much better with pvp as well. Thank you very much though, I tend to be very critical of myself 😅 There was a lot of changes that caught me off guard then caused me to change up my skill morphs and lineup and I'm going to research if any new sets are better than what I currently use (asylum ice staff, seventh legion brute jewelry and sword and shield, shacklebreaker heavy, troll king head and shoulders light and medium for those 2). What sort of sets do you use on your tank to solo or pvp? (not for trials, etc.)

I returned after three years earlier this year and gotta say was the best decision! Needed the break as I was at my wits ends with the game but the game had alot of issues for me then but those have been ironed out while I was gone 😅

@Dr_uberbabe exactly! Funnily enough I was just craving an mmo to chip away at over time and I played eso for 6ish years before quiting and thought I'd come back and give it a try! Massive factor for my return is also I was craving a good player market to try and make some money in and eso was always my favourite for that

I take breaks here or there but always come back. Played since release on console. Amazing game in my book. Same birthday! 🎉 ESO's story and lore just never get old. Best housing in any mmo imo and nearly limitless builds keep me locked in.

NICE one, happy happy to you as well then! 😄🎉The lore, atmosphere and gameplay (especially combat) 100% keeps me loyal me to this mmo over others but Morrowind sealed the deal for me as a loyal Elder Scrolls fan many many many years ago as a child (I'm sure its over 20 years old now)...guess that shows my age a touch 😆

I find the housing overwhelming, I kind of just dump things. I use that free Summerset grand psijic villa as my main house but I have so many that are just sitting empty and neglected. I admire some of my guild masters that go out of their way to make everything so beautiful and epic in their guild houses.

I'm a big MMO player, been playing them for years, EverQuest II being the big one that I played since I was a child. I kept going on and off with Elder Scrolls Online, but what keeps bringing me back is the combat. I love the less buttons, but they mean more approach they have to your actions, how you don't just have access to everything at the same time like you would with other MMOs that just increase the skill upon level up with a new version or just release new and better spells. I like the dodge roll mechanic in particular, kind of reminds me of the Souls Series, healing isn't everything. Sometimes you die because you miss a block or roll, but those aren't tied to a defensive stat, they are an action, which I love. The biggest reason I returned to ESO was the gear system. I'm an endgame PvE player, I love running dungeons, raids, and getting no death achievements and stuff along those lies. Usually when I come back to an MMO after an extended period of time, I'm no longer at max level, so all my gear is worthless, I gotta grind back up to the highest level, get readjusted to the post-levels, and grind to get adornments or gems or whatever. With ESO, sure, the sets I was running aren't exactly the absolute best sets in the game, but due to the leveling & gear system in ESO, the gear is still viable and I can still jump back into running dungeons or trials and not be completely useless. Edit: Good example is Pillar of Nirn. It got nerfed a few times since I returned, but it is still a viable set to run. In specific situations, Aegis Caller & Runecarver would out me more DPS on a Stamcro (my main), but if I ran that same Pillar of Nirn set that I had from 2022, it isn't like I can't complete a dungeon with it in 2024.

I have to agree with the combat, it is so much fun, especially with pvp like battlegrounds (my favourite is the dragon leap with my DK). I get terrified of some of these vet dlc dungeons, the other day I felt brave and searched a random vet dungeon as a tank and I had just claimed Fang Lair from the giveaway so I hadn't done it before, even on normal so all was smooth until the final boss and of course I didn't know the mechanics and we got wiped a few times but after an hour of trying and a new dps replacement from my guild and we got it! Stressful but the feeling of accomplishment was fantastic! I want to try some vet trials some day as well. With regards to gear, 100% there's so much that's constantly added and then nerfed. I have my go to tanky dps set that still works well for me, even in pvp (seventh legion brute) and troll king head and shoulder (although I see they nerfed health recovery apparently by 50% in the last few years). There's quite a lot of research I want to do to see what new things have been added in case I could do better (I'm sure there is) but its nice that there's so much choice and so many ways to approach it! Are you on the EU server, PC? Happy to make more friends in game if you like

What is it with people and flying mounts..... those things destroy MMOs..... ESO is one of the only games in with you always see people everywhere doing things. Flying mounts would destroy the feeling of playing an MMO. I remember reading who one of the things the developers of WOW regretted the most was adding flying mount and now is too late to take them back.

I don't think its possible from a technical perspective anyway as they'd have to redesign the game too much but it is something I personally would be keen for (even just hovering), although I've never played WOW so I never experienced that issue. I can imagine people would just fly past most things and skip most quests or encounters or whatever so that would take away from the overall experience.

lol I assume that's an extreme exaggeration....24*7*52= approximately 8736 hours a year so almost 15 years worth for 24 hours of the day, every day, was spent on WOW. Are you human?

Thank you, ESO is great in that it can appeal to more casual players and the super competitive, completionist types all at the same time (I am personally more the latter). Hope you are able to get back into it as well! :)

Not new achievements. They did account wide achievements, meaning you're getting all the achievements across your account. There's no more individual character achievements. Performance is still bad, nonsense nerfs are still rampant, and you're now paying full price for much much less content. No more quarter 4 dungeons. Oh, and they are putting companions in the crown store now..... Welcome back 🤣🤣🤣

Thanks I looked it up and its true they did add account wide achievements in 2022, this character is my main one though and most of those were newly added. I also got 2 outfits as well from some quest related achievement not that I can recall now. It does make me much less interested in achievement or title or whatever hunting with my alts, I don't like that its now account wide honestly. In my opinion the performance is worse, freezing and crashing, long loads but it is what it is. Got so irritated when my game crashed yesterday just as an intense battleground's match was about to be over. At least I saved by not buying the expansions for the past few years so there's that and I used to be bad about it, like pre-ordering the collector's edition too 🤦‍♀

@@BaiLani Very true but the performance has gotten worse for me, idk maybe its because the servers are busier? Either way its not a dealbreaker, I've suffered through much worse performing games and still persist. Maybe I need to upgrade my PC sometime as well, this baby of mine has served me since the RTX 2070 was just released.

@@BaiLani I still play ESO. I still love ESO. But I don't put my head in the sand and pretend everything is sunshine and rainbows. There is a lot of fun to be had in ESO, that's very true. But that still doesn't diminish it has very real issues. My comment wasn't to downplay the game, but to be honest about it. This day and age honesty is frowned upon though, so I get it.

What did you not like about ESO? Or is it disappointment with regards to Gold Road in particular? I've read a lot of hate online about it because it didn't add as much as previous years and people didn't like the questline in the new land zone.

@@Dr_uberbabe It really depends on the content you want to do. The lag and bugs that 2-3 years ago seemed limited to Cyrodiil is now prevalent in PvE instance content like Trials, Dungeons, Arenas, and Infinite Archive. So if you’re focused on overland content, questing, housing, etc you probably won’t see the issues that a lot of players have problems with. If you have any interest in Vet Trial achievements, find a very patient prog group because the Vet/Vet HM Trial groups are very frustrated right now. All this is just my opinion, so I would summarize my bias as being that I love ESO, I don’t like the state of how unstable the game performs in PvP and Vet Trials, which has left me and many many others very frustrated and turning away from the game.

@@bubbsparsespovs4513 I have yet to play any new vet content, certainly not trails but I want to. I've heard of the infinite archive, sounds really interesting but I hope the performance will be okay. Battlegrounds (and the occasional dungeon) for me has been terrible with freezing, rare crashing and weird glitches appearing (like icons randomly above each player's heads) then disappearing when re-logging. I hope they can sort this out soon :/ I don't recall having this many issues years ago... 🤷‍♀

@@Dr_uberbabe Honestly, the issues with performance have been getting progressively worse. Frustrating is the best word for it. Can you play the game? Yes. Can you play the end game content? Yes. Can you play end game content without bugs/lag that ruin achieving specific goals? *rolls dice* This is the current state of ESO.
