Many solutions. Do it slower. Lower weight. Don’t swing as much. Pause as top. Lower slower and release half way. Dig elbows into front of the pad. Wrap a band around your upper back and attach each end to each handle. Loop strap around weights instead of inside. Lots of ways to make this exercise more effective cuz if it’s not working you’re doing it wrong

No wonder you don't like it, you are hyper-extending your lower back which is the completely incorrect way to use it. Look at your own video and then look at the way Louis uses it.

You are supposed to hyper-extend your back. This machine is supposed to create spinal traction( downswing momentum) while also strengthening the lower back muscles (top of upswing). He was just using way too much weight. This isn't a mass building machine.

did you try the revers hyper exercise without a machine before?.... i'm interested if the exercise with the machine is much better or not that much of a difference
@bobzombie8072
@bobzombie8072 4 года назад
Snub Dawg - I did try it but didn’t perform it with any consistency. For me, the machine is really good because of the pendulum movement caused by the weights causing my lower spine to decompress. It’s definitely worth trying without the machine first because if that works then you’ve saved yourself some money and found the quickest way of achieving the same ‘end goal’

@bobzombie8072
@bobzombie8072 4 года назад
Snub Dawg - No problem, I use mine roughly 4 times a week (in addition to any other training all week) and normally do 4-5 sets of 15-20 reps at about 40% of my max squat. This seems to work ok for me but other people may use it with more weight for less reps etc. If you do pick one up then it might take a couple of weeks if trying it to decide what works for you.

Doing current research on the back for overall longevity and the first thing that struck me re: the machine was the free-swing return. Know this can be overcome and Louie seems to know just how to use it correctly. But for most, the discipline required for the return action, plus the correct positioning/angle are requisites most people, especially casual "designer gym-mers", won't take the time to do.

@razorsedge864
@razorsedge864 6 лет назад
I’ve seen others post this same comment. I see a lot of people do the reverse hyper wrong. I see them relax at the top and let it swing all the way under. If you have a good amount of weight and this is jerking your pelvis as it rotates, of course this is bad. Fight it until the bottom then let it rotate your hips underneath the table. Those big, strong ass powerlifters are fighting it but they have so much weight on that you can’t really see that it’s not moving at full speed from the top. They are fighting it. I love my reverse hyper in my garage but once again, it has to be done correctly. Don’t pile on 8 plates and release from the top of the movement. Fight it until you get to the bottom then release a little.. The most I use is a 45 and a 25 on each side when releasing at the bottom. If I have more, I fight it all the way through.

Great points! I came to the same conclusions. Too much space and too expensive for what this and the GHD do. A yoga inversion strap costs very little and takes up zero space. Same with an ab roller or the sorinex ham roller.

Theres a lot more than just reverse hyperextensions that you can do with this machine believe it or not. Donkey kicks, pulling movements, pressing movements, i can think of a bunch. Its all about creativity. And like most people said, you’re supposed to stop the momentum as much as possible on the way down leaving only a little bit to swing back up. You should almost never see the weights swinging on the way down.
@bbrockRailFan
@bbrockRailFan 6 лет назад
Leo I am watching people use this and it just seems to be that they use a tremendous amount of swinging and momentum. I am curious is this how it is to be used? I am thinking if a person would start each upward rep at a dead stop or a pause then hold it for a one or two count at the top or peak contraction it might be more effective? I have a feeling some powerlifters dont understand what a peak contraction is. II think they are so concerned about getting a heavy barbell from start to finish this concept is alien to them. I was training with a young powerlifter, we where doing leg extensions and he would move the weight a fast as he could and never try to hold the weight for even one second at the top or contracted position. I aksed him why and I think he thought my question was pretty strange.

Although I agree that reverse hyper machines are over-rated. With the exception of one guy in your video, every other person was in your video was not pausing at the rest position of the weighted pendulum, allowing the machine to over-extend their body. Using it in this manner is uncontrolled lifting and can contribute to additional stress..

I get what you mean. Lots of hype revolves around the reverse hyper. The mad scientist did a video about its positives and negatives. It’s a specialty item that not everyone needs, has the space or can benefit from. I use mine primarily for glute development and after some heavy deads. I sometimes do leg curls on it so that two movement outta it 😜. You ever think about doing a video on your revolvers? Why you got them, how they’ve held up and most importantly, are they worth the price tag over you run of the mill standard barbell plates as a garage gym owner.

I'm having a sharp pain right in the mid/upper part of my left glute. No back pain, at all, and no leg pain. It's just in my ass. Unable to pull over 60% or squat at all really. I'm losing my mind. Hurts worse with sumo, which is counterintuitive. I know it's an old clip, but I've been scouring the net for advice.
@ResistanceQuest
@ResistanceQuest 5 лет назад
Sounds like a large fascial adhesion in either the upper glute maximus or the glute medius. In this case, it might be worse with sumo because this area of the glutes is trying to help keep you upright whereas being more bent over (say, for conventional DL) properly recruits the erectors. I would try using a lacrosse ball, softball, and/or theracane and try to apply lots of pressure to the painful area over a long amount of time to try to break up the adhesion, while also stretching that hip a lot and trying to strengthen the core and lower back extensors to try to keep the glute medius from firing as much. Also maybe try applying pressure (lacrosse ball, etc) to the abs and see if there are knots there; the abs, lower back, and glutes are innervated by some of the same nerve endings, so tightness/adhesions and disfunction in one area can contribute to the same in the other. Consider getting checked for scoliosis. Hope this helps. Good luck!

My dad built me a reverse hyper out of scrap wood. Why do them with your neck moving like that it looks silly and bad for maintaining a neutral spine.
@Ravenstalk
@Ravenstalk 5 лет назад
It is a good machine, just need to learn to do it correctly. Put a band on there, so it will help remove the excessive momentum at the top, so you wont overextend the spine into hyperlordosis at the end of motion because of the swing. Have a very tight butt all the time and round lower back. Then it would be correct. The ending position should look as if you are just standing tall and strong with pelvis neutral or feeling to be more "posterior tilt" like, not with overflexed lower back like a duck... This applies also to the basic hyperextension machine, people always use too much of erectors straight outta hips section. They should roll out slowly vertebrae after vertebrae from butt to the head with squeezed butt and tight hamstrings to protect from overlordosis. BTW off topic: This is info for natural guys, if you shoot juice, it doesnt matter what your form is that much, the body of juiced guys can take alot more punishment.

I looked at buying the reverse hyper, but low and behold an annual membersip for RomWod and daily diligent stretching of my hams and hips fixed me right up. Tight hip flexors, short/tight glutes, and just overall tight hips mixed with heavy deadlifts and squats had me where i could barely walk. It's crazy how bad my back was hurting due to something that's literally on the opposite side of my body.

This is a great video. You’re one of the few guys that do this youtube lifting thing that I take seriously. On a related note, my buddy is a spinal cord trauma research scientist at Cal State LA. He was telling me there is very good reason to believe that this machine does more harm than good. Mainly from the amount of weight people use on this machine, and that pendulum swinging is very bad for the back in this position. The back is not meant to be hyper extended with load, and if you do, it should be done in such light weight, that it can be done without this monstrous machine. That’s according to him. I wouldn’t be able to explain how or why.

I agree. Reverse hyper is the most overrated piece of gym equipment on the market today in my opinion.

You always use 100% momentum of the thing... I don't think that's the correct way to do it so you should check your form first, otherwise you'll find any piece of equipment useless when in fact what's wrong is your technique.. my 2 cents

I have this at home...I call it my porch because that's what it actually is.(There's enough overhang and things to grip so i can do the full range of motion on it) Buying a ridiculously overpriced and overbuilt piece of specialized professional kit for your own home gym is stupid no matter what the machine is.

Wow its so many ways i could deal with you on this video its pathetic....Many tools for many things period...if i bench press feel good during workout and later that day get tingling sensation down my arm due to tight pecs does that mean the DAMN bench press is bad? NO...SMH SO MANY WAYS TO GO AT THIS VIDEO....THE REVERSE HYPER DOES IN FACT STRENGTHEN YOUR POSTERIOR CHAIN IT DOESNT STRETCH OUT YOUR DAMN HIPS YOU STILL HAVE TO MAINTAIN OPEN FLEXIBLE HIPS...

1. You’re cheating every rep in your video clip of you using the RH. 2. This is one of the best pieces of equipment anyone can use to rehab/ build muscle. If you have a strong back you’re less likely to have injuries. This equipment has to work let’s think about this. Westside is the strongest gym in the world and they don’t have back injuries! 3. You can do more than just one exercise with the RH. You can use it for a lats, you can do upright rows, to can do shrugs, and you can do triceps.
