Samah Khalid Naji is 18, and along with six other members of her family, is living in the bombed-out remains of their house in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza. It was destroyed in October by an Israeli missile strike.

The destruction of more than a third of Gaza’s homes as Israel bombards the territory in pursuit of Hamas is leading international legal experts to raise the concept of 'domicide': the mass destruction of dwellings to make the territory uninhabitable.
The Guardian spent two days with Samah and her family in December to see the remains of their house and how they are surviving the war. She told the film-maker Majdi Fathi about why they decided this was the safest place for them to be.

Her "depth of humanity" should include her concern for the Israeli babies, grandparents, and woman hostages. She cannot express that and live. I've seen enough Palliwood films to know the truth. If she and her family are innocent then they should tell the truth about their lives under Hamas rule. This film was made for the naïve European or student. At least she didn't cry crocodile tears. She smiles pleasantly while telling her story so you can feel for her. Samah is probably one of the "lucky ones" in Gaza because of the extremely bad conditions everywhere else and people losing life, limb and missing multiple family members and their homes and neighborhoods are completely obliterated. The only way they can recover from this is a lasting peace and a chance to live their life on their own terms rather than be forced to live under the shadow of a destructive "defense"

@@patrickquine3945 it is. An open air prison, israel controls everything that comes in or out and Gazans are locked there unless they have an autorisation from the occupier. And of course Gazans can't go back to where they originally lived in other places of Palestine before they got displaced into Gaza jail.

We lift up families in Gaza who live in desperate conditions but let's remember that the same happened to Israelis families on October 7th. Everyone who has been injured or killed would still be well or alive if Hamas had not declared this war.
