In this video I wanted to share why I still use the Sony A6500 over other cameras. Also I talk about which specs of the Sony a6500 I really enjoy and what make keeping this camera worth it. I have bought the a7iii before and felt it wasn't worth the cost of upgrade for the increased specs I needed. Anyways this is just my opinion, let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

Just found your channel because I have an a6500 and wanted to get into a bit of videography. If you can do a tutorial for beginners from end to end that would be dope. Like... maybe make a quick short of vlog + b-roll + cinematic, and then go over your exact steps to make that short. That would include camera settings for each shot, etc. basically a behind the scenes. Let’s say no gimbals or any special lighting. That would really help. Others that do tutorials will simply say follow the 180 rule but they don’t talk about setting to s log or how to make sure your exposure is correct, how peaking works, etc. anyway, I subbed !

You answered a lot of the questions I had as well as provided solutions... One question. I heard you suggest to use 250 shutter when shooting 1080 60fps. Do you use this same method when shooting 4k performance shots at 24fps to get a sharper image if so what shutter speed do you typically use? Thanks bro. Subbed!

Hey Dennis, just came across your channel and this was a great video. I'm fairly new to filming but I'm fairly proficient in video editing. I don't know if I missed it but what is your answer to the question in your title? Hahaha. I am stuck between getting the A6500, A7R II and A7SII. I plan on making a lot of different films such as documentary style videos, music videos etc. You highlighted a lot of the pros of the A6500 but I wanted to know how it compares do the newer models and which I should go with in your opinion. Hey Dennis! Could you make a tutorial on back button focus? I've been trying to look on RU-vid ad search on Google for back button focus with the Sony a6500 but there's no specific videos for it! Thanks again for everything you do! Regardless you're helpful haha

This is how I set mine up for back button focus. In the menu for Camera Settings 1, go to page 6. Turn AF w/shutter off and also turn Pre-AF to off. Then go to Camera Settings 2, page 8. Click on Custom Key (shoot) to page 2. You can use any button you want, but I find the AEL button works best for me. Change that (or whichever button you want to use) to AutoFocus on.

I think you are mistaken by saying that the 1080 is soft, it is just normal 4K looks sharper when downscaled always, and it is strange you put it on higher shutter speed to get sharper image while that only affect the motion you mixing motion blur with sharpness of the image itself which can be due to lens or out of focus

Idk. I've seen some comparisons and the gh5's 1080p looks much sharper compared to the a6500's. But yes it's only noticeable if you place them side by side and prob with some pixel peeping

I got a A6500 and a 35mm 1.8 from a friend for very cheap last year ($500 ish for both). Only downside is because he purchased the body in Japan, it's stuck in Japanese language with no way to change it to English. It's a monster camera even for its age. It's been my main work camera ever since.

If you contact sony they can give you a regional flash. Call their support line. Tell them you now reside in United States. You will have to part from your camera for a week while you mail it out but it's free for them to do

For the jitters add a camera strap, your neck as a third contact point helps a lot.

Would you recommend to shoot 4k and then downsample it for 1080p? Im learning videography, currently using sony a7ii and i want better af, and more options what comes to video. My macbook isnt the latest model so making it 1080p would help a bit maybe.🤔

Definitely don’t suck at the handheld stuff. I think building a rig for small mirrorless cameras is essential for handheld work. I sent you a question on IG about how to share client work, shoot me an answer f you get the time please, and as always great video. Btw... love the idea of a quicker shutter speed for the 1080p footage, I’m gonna have to try that out!

Got a6500, but the body is too small with ronin M release plate. I use the sigma 18-35, and it's impossible to rotate it at all. Is there a solution?

Hi Dennis. I'm hoping you can solve a problem I have. I bought a Neewer TTL wireless flash trigger with a Neewer NW400 flash. I can't get the trigger to fire the flash off-camera. I'm sure it's just some little setting, but I've tried everything I can think of with no success. The flash works fine on camera, I just cant get it to work off-camera with the trigger. They are on the same channel and same group. It's driving me nuts!!

Hey Dennis! Question, when you shoot weddings, how long does the battery last and how many batteries do you do through?

I use sony batteries and 3rd party batteries. Sony batteries last about 45mins-1hr. 3rd party batteries last about 30mins. I have a total of 23 batteries and I use about 10-15 for a full weddings day. That includes both cameras

I dont get it. I cant seem to get that kind of autofocus or quality from my a6500 while using similar quality lenses (Sigma 16mm and 56mm) and a gimbal. Is it from my settings and do you thing that s-log 3 is better then the cine4? How do you get so much color depth and I cant seem to be able to fix colors without everything looking low quality...
