Thank you so much for your support! 🫶🏿💙🥰 . What are you using to moisturize your hair? Do you use oils, or are you more so about the moisture via liquids? LET ME KNOW BELOW LUVS! 😘
Water. 💦 Nopales or Aloe made into a juice pulled from my yard. My locs are flat and my cottony hair fine. My scalp feels the great and can breathe without oil. No build up. No pulling on my delicate hairline. I am very tenderheaded and no retwisting has been wonderful and stress free. What I love the most is the light and fluffiest. I love the feel of it. No oil rubbing off on my clothing or bed linens. Thank you for sharing your journey. 🌻✨
@RapSlime yes you can! Just keep an eye on whether your scalp likes it or not, if you're doing too much, need more ... and do a lil digging/research. It might be a lot in the beginning, but once you have a thick and healthy crown, you'll be happy you did the work from the jump. Blessings on your journey! 🙏🏿🌞🌻
Yes indeed. No oils ever in wooly locs. Oils just dry out your hair, makes it brittle and promotes build up just like you said. Light, fluffy and dry is ideal. Great video! All the best, sis.
@@IkambaDeVictoire You are welcome! I'm just over 7 years locd. I started with an afro, separated too soon and then eventually croched them together to thicken them up. Best decision I ever made. I'm having the time of my life 😃
@ingridhartcoaching wow, i did the same! Started with a baby afro then about two years in, i combed out some of the ends and crotched them to thicken them up as well. Great minds! Haha Blessings Beauty! 🙏🏿
Girlllll you are teaching me something!!! I bought glycerin, rose water, aloe Vera and extra virgin olive oil and added that to a bottle with filtered water because these loc content videos were saying that would help hydrate my hair. Mannnn, that stuff is super oily and made my hair feel heavy. Also made my hair look thin. I thought maybe my hair was just not made for locs. But NOWWWWWW, since you’ve came out with this video….makes me feel so much better!!!! Thank you Queen for this video!! This has educated me!! A lot! 💙💚🩵
I dont use oil. Im completely oil free. I only wash with dr. Bronners biweekly and rinse my hair with tea after. For me, oil was itchy on my scalp and creating sore spots and making my hair break! Oil is a no for me! Thank you for this video! I thought I was weird!
I've always been scared to use Dr Bronners because I didnt want it to leave a white cast due to hard water. But I feel like the peppermint one would cause my head to feel tingly and so fresh and so clean clean! Lol Amd no luv, you're not weird! 😂 I've seen one other person use tea on their locs, what does that do? Lastly, you and your locs are BEAUTIFUL! 😍
i just watched one of your other videos where you showed us how you used rosewater and aloe to moisturize your locs. that video was from 2 years ago. i'm glad to see you're still making videos! you're doing great!
Aw thank you so much! I'm deeply invested in my music career right now and God is opening so many doors in that area, but I will do my best to post here when I can as well. God bless you! 🙏🏿
New subscriber & love your locs 1. You are drop dead gorgeous! 2. You are right about oils don’t let all the opinions have you ignoring what your scalp is telling you. 3. You make me want loc jewelry…gonna experiment this summer. I’m 4 years in and never use oils because it would make my dandruff worse well much later I learned I have Seborrheic dermatitis (oily large flakes, if you had or have seen cradle cap it’s the same) which gets so much worse with oils. The only product I use is shampoo and TGIN mousse to retwist monthly. It gets steam each night when I shower and that’s all folks!
Yes, it sure is! And I feel like that's a wonderful way to use it too! I put vitamin E oil on my son's locs on wash day as well, and then just moisturize with the aloe the rest of the month.
I'm only 10 months in, and I think I'm starting to be dependent on oil, too. I'm definitely going to do a no oil challenge and see how it turns out. This video was very interesting and informative. Thx! Your locs are gorgeous, btw.
Yes, try it out luv! And find you something you can sprits in your hair as a moisturizer. You can use it daily as well with no fear of build up (as long as you dont add heavy oils in it). Thank you for your beautiful words! 🥰
Thank you Victoire for sharing this information and your findings on your experience with locs. You are the second person I have taken note of that have stopped using oils. The build-up hey, I can relate. I am on the path of no oils for me and my daughter.
One thing i had to learn is that oils are medicinal. It does not make sense to put them in a bottle and mix all the oils together because the more the better lol. I stopped doing that and i will only use certain oils for the needs of my hair. Not only that when there's a bunch of oils in a container you don't know what isn't serving your hair well. I feel like 2-3 oils are enough. 1 carrier oil and 1-2 essential oil mix.
My locs are 17 days old. I wash them with diluted shampoo every 10 days, and I have not used any styling or moisturizing products. I'm constantly worried about build-up. And lint.
I mostly only put oil in my hair if i mix it with water n mist my hair. My locs look real healthy. But i make sure to keep them clean. N detox once a year. N i put aleo vera gel in my hair (that has no added chemicles in it). That REALLY moisturizes my hair n does not leave build up. I also use a clarifying shampoo by design essentials. I normally use that 2 times, n use a moisturizing shampoo after it as well when i wash my hair. N i wash my hair every 2 weeks.
Wow, sounds like you have it down pat! Yeah, I actually use oil in my baby's hair, but only after his hair is washed. Everything in moderation! I desire to plant and have my own aloe when I move into my house, so that I can have fresh aloe for my hair 😊.
It's not a good idea to use essential oils regularly. It is a medicine and should be used for a maximum of 3 weeks. It's not just a perfume, but the active molecules of a plant in high concentration.
Hi there! Im glad we have both found what works best for us. As I mentioned in my other reply to you on this video, we are all different and will choose different ways/methods. Not everything will work the same for everyone. Blessings!
I no longer oil my scalp, well not regularly anyway. It makes my scalp itch. I use a skin spray on my scalp which contains oil, water and other natural ingredients to combat dryness and itching and it works perfectly for me.
If I may say isn't pomade and grease worse than oils? I'm not saying my method is best. However I lightened my oils with 50% water and use very sparingly
@@ibokeshola2502 I’m sure that most of the ingredients in these products are not good, even oils. However, I grew up using grease/ pomades. Oils are new in my opinion and allow debris to stick in the locs of people who wear them.
my hair are very dry, especially the top of my head but with aloe vera it is great now. I just use some oils maybe 3-4 times a year but this doesn't really help to mosturize my scalp. My hair was dry because i wash them once a week that was too much and I didn't use aloe vera to mosturize.
I wash my babies once a month with castile shampoo with a purple base for my silver/ gray hair then I use distilled water, apple cider vinegar and rose water for my daily moisturizer. My hair doesn’t like oils especially coconut oil. Your crown is gorgeous and I love those colors. 🫶🏽
Ooo, that sounds like a lovely moisturizer! And I know your locs are just GORGEOUS! I LOVE SILVER LOCS! 😍 Yeah, coconut oil was NOT it for me, and some people swear by it but to each their own you know. If they like it, I love it! And thank you so much for the kind words! Blessings! 🫶🏿🩵💚💙
Beautiful all around!! 🎉❤! Was your scalp itchy with oils as well? The back of my hair looks like yours did before and im just trying to see what may help. Also how long till you saw a difference. Oh and which shampoos do you recommend?
Thank you so much! 🩵 My scalp was TERRIBLY itchy with oils (but keep in mind, I was also using them in excess. So maybe you could explore using less, only using oils after wash day, and then spraying with aloe vera in between). I also know a better diet would help all of these things as well. I drink a lot more water than I did with my first set and my body (including my hair) is so grateful for it! 😅 And I would say it took about 6 months to a year for me to REALLY REALLY be like, yooo ... no more vlad spots! 🥲 And my fave shampoos right now are Carols Daughter Wash Day Delight, works as a great clarifying shampoo for me (i use the rose scent but the aloe joint smells AMAZING too. Think imma get that one next time). Then to introduce a little moisture and hydration after the stripping of the Carol's Daughter, I use Shea Moisture Bamboo Charcoal Deep Cleansing Shampoo. I love the way this one smells as well and it leaves my hair feeling nice and soft withought having to use conditioner and worry about build up. I have the shampoos I use in my description with a clickable link that directs you to Amazon (usually where I get mine, nice and speedily thanks to Prime! 😁). Hope this helps, blessings! 🙏🏿
@IkambaDeVictoire such an amazing reply!! Thank you so so much 🩵💚💙 I just picked up shea moisture anti dandruff shampoo and started washing my hair more and also just doing hot oil before a wash and a very light oil after.
Awwww, thanks so the reminder lovely! 😭 Sooo, all I can do is listen to what God is telling me, and He's been telling me "GET INTO YOUR MUSIC"! So I've been doing just that! I've done music all my life, but I'M FINALLY PUTTING IT OUT for the world to hear! 🙌🏿💃🏿🥰 My artist name and new RU-vid Channel is Victory Abayo. My first single drops June 7th! I also love this loc channel and my beautiful tribe deserves new videos too, so I will be working on it in my free time. Blessings beauty! 😘😘😘
Rosemary is oil base you was making it seem like you don’t use oil😂 never put a whole bunch of products in one bottle and use the distilled water. Spray it first on your hair and then follow up with some mist spray bottle but get a lightweight mist bottle and I just ordered that same Shea moisture shampoo
Hi there! Thank you for the great advice. I did mention in the video that I'm not a STRICT "no oil" type person 😅, and that the only oils I use now are the rosemary and lavender (only a few drops diluted in my aloe juice). And I love using my misting spray bottle to ensure I don't miss a spot! (The one I use is in my description). 😊 Lastly, I LOVE the smell and effect of the Shae moisture shampoo! (Which also has oils in it, but these mostly get washed out after rinsing). I hope you enjoy it as much as I do, the smell is devine as well! 🥰 Blessings 💙
@@IkambaDeVictoire yeah, I use rosemary Camille mist and distilled water. I sprayed distilled water on my head first and then I spray the mist bottle and I do that two times a week only and I just started using wild growth oil today so I might only use the mist and distilled water only once a week in wild growth once a week, and I definitely wash my hair every once a month
Oh goodness, deeefinitely an aloe product! 😅 I wish I had the will to do the fresh one ... perhaps someday, but for now, the 99% aloe juice from walmart (pharmacy section about $4 each) works juuust fine for me and my babies!
Aloe vera is very easy to grow. I have 6 plants of aloe vera because I do soap with aloe vera too. For the soap and my dreadlocks, I take the gel and mix with mixer and then i use a colander to separate the liquid and the fibers. When You have 1 plant of aloe vera, it is very easy to have more and more plants... Just protect them from rain.
Thank you so much for that encouragement! I AM actually getting ready to move and will have a beautiful backyard and wanted to garden. That's such a great idea to just GROW my own! Thanks again, blessings 🙏🏿 @user-gn3vh8rt9x
@aminahnamuwaya3470 Do it! Small tip: when you first start, though, make sure you observe your roots to ensure they are doing well and continueing to grow into you locs so that they dont get thin. (Wish I had learned this a little earlier, but what matters is that I caught it before it was too detrimental! 🤗) Also, are you going to keep retwisting? Or are you just going to separate them so they don't all lock up together? I wish you all the best my friend! 😘
@@aminahnamuwaya3470 ah, i see! And yw luv! 😊 The braid in method has proved well for my locs. Keeps the roots so thick, as if they've just been left untouched, but that helps keep the root thick so my locs can also grow that way. I'm really loving it for my locs. That's actually what I will be posting about this weekend!
natural aloe vera juice must be use in 3 days maximum. 15:32 this is not aloe vera juice. Maybe it is some water mix with aloe vera powder and this will not work as good as real natural aloe vera juice.
Hi there. So everyone has their own reason and experience. I have my own reasons to why I'm using this (I have an active 3 year old, im.ver involved in ministry, doing music, making merchandise, and several other things and dont have the TIME nor energy to use real aloe, so the option I am giving here not only wirks for my situation, but it works for my hair ... it loves it and it's very soft because of it). My hope is just to share my experiences in order to help others. If it helps them discover using REAL aloe leaves, then great! I also just want to share my life experiences with my tribe and help show them that it's ok to try different things, just keep a close eye on your crown, and if that method fails, try another one being careful to be actively checking to see what works best for you. We are all different, we will all do different things, and we should support one another with kind and positive words. Blessings 🙏🏿
Ooooo ... I wanna see it!!! If I could start my locs one more time, I think I would freeform. I'd probably seperate the hair initially, then let it do it's thing (kiiinda what I'm doing now! My roots are SOOO THICK and look amazing! I look forward to when it gets longer! ☺️)
@IkambaDeVictoire I wish I could show you. By the way, it's short but not too short. My hair is 4A. But ever since I started the process I have noticed that it had started to tangle up ALOT
@IkambaDeVictoire I forgot to mention fam. When I do wash it, I use a sulfate free shampoo. I don't want to use oil now, because I rinse my hair often. But I will use oil in the winter, so that when I do rinse my hair, the oil will keep the moisture in my hair. I don't know if that makes sense. Correct me if I'm wrong Ma'am
@user-tf7gb2zq3d lol no, you're on point! I actually use oil in my baby's locs mixed with essential oils (only about 2 quarter sized amounts, and right after his hair wash day) ... and his locs are THRIVING. Honestly, the takeaway of this whole video is find what works best for you, and don't overdue it, ans things should work out beautifully! 😊 I was not waiting enough to see what was working and just doin' too much! 😊 So oils in the winter is a great idea (due to the weather being dryer) ... just see of your locs and scalp like it/thrive with it. Less is always more for me! Rinsing it often will help it loc up. Aloe, Rose, or water solution misters (just liquid in a mister/spray bottle) daily or every other day/whenever you remember help keep your locs hydrated and help with the locking process as well. Sulfate free shampoo is great too. Also, since you do use oils, do some research on clarifying shampoos (I love Carol's Daughter Wash Day Delight ... they have an Aloe and a Rosw sent that smell fresh and delightful! ☺️).
I’ve only had locs for six months but I can tell you where you messed up one you waited three months to wash your hair and you were putting products on your hair every day. You should’ve been only putting products on your hair every 3 to 4 days you should’ve been washing your hair every once a month or at least every six weeks that’s why your hair was so heavy because all those products in there they’re gonna make your hair feel heavy are good oil is for your hair. You didn’t know how to apply them the right way you don’t need to put oil in your hair every day you can really just oil your hair every once a week and that’s OK.
I appreciate the advice. Not sure if you watched the video in its entirety, but I actually mentioned every single one of these points (and more) in the video, admiting how WRONGLY I was using oils. I then also mentioned how I started using it the RIGHT way (only oiling once a week/every two weeks/as needed), washing once a month ... BUT, after testing out and observing different methods ... I went with what I understood my hair liked best ... and IT DID! 🥰 MY LOCS HAVE NEVER BEEN SO FULL, AND FELT SO SOFT! That's great that you figured out the right way to go about it all early on! 😅 I'm sure your crown is happy for it! Blessings! 💙
Hello! Yes, it is of french origin. And I am talking about castor oil because it's something I used, and I am talking about my own experiences. Blessings 🙏🏿
