Correction: With Adaptive Brightness the outer display can hit 1550 nits and the inner display can hit 1450 nits which gets it closer to usable outdoors, but still not there for me in socal with little to no canopy or cloud cover lol
I received mine Monday, so I've had 5 days now. I'm crazy about it! I have been on it since around 8 this morning and I'm still at 48%. And yes for it to fold is neat! I'm retired and a widow and only my fur baby to take care of so this is fun learning! I love gadgets so every year or 2 i get a new phone and tablet! Thanks for your review. I'm new ro your channel. Wishing you the best!
I've had the Pixel Fold since June 27 and I do love it. Most of the "cons" of the phone don't really impact or bother me but I REALLY would love them to fix the battery life and screen brightness... those are the two real issues for me!
I got mine coming the day after tomorrow in the mail. I've skipped all the Samsung folds and stuck with pixels since the Pixel one, so I may have a biased opinion, but I like the idea of the company that controls Android updates is controlling updates on my phone directly. Great vid. Glad I found this channel
Glad I found this channel. I like your relaxed demeanor and not the yelling and constant one upping that other reviewers due. Contemplating getting this for 900 on ATT. My entire family is on iPhone and interested in the GF5 being unveiled tomorrow. I prefer the Pixels screen dimensions however!
I’ve heard conflicting reports on both sides on paper it looks like it’s maxed at 1200 with the extra brightness in direct sunlight and the Pixel Fold is 1550 both can’t cut it for me in socal
@FilmedbyFresh I know what the paper specs say, but in real life comparison the Z fold4 looks and gets brighter... So either the specs for the Google fold is wrong on how bright it gets or the z fold4 is wrong and it actually gets brighter then the 1200nits.. I've seen specs say the z fold 4 can get to 1400nits..
@@markh8921 yeah someone is overselling or underselling the capabilities of their device. Another thing I noticed is that the auto brightness doesn’t always kick on in direct sunlight on the fold, could be a software glitch or just my unit
I bought the fold. I would say that Google has fired a warning shot to the Samsung fold(s). However, had it not been for the carrier credits. I just can't seem to justify $1800 for a phone that almost got it right. Samsung still the best.
There IS an option to force stretch apps to the full screen BUT it is NOT possible to use as default for all apps and has to be switched on at an app by app basis. (and of course it doesn't work well with all apps)
I have to say Google did very good job at the 1st gen Folding phone,I will wait to the Pixel Fold 2 to buy just like I not buy the Galaxy Fold until the Fold 3 ;)
Nice video bro just wanna say What's the point of having a £1800 phone and a big inner display when the apps don't even open full screen I have a Oppo find n2 fold beautiful phone and all the apps open full screen u can choose if u want to open the apps full screen by going into settings.
I case of battery. Is kind a stupid that we get tablet phone without tablet battery. Like you say, this type of phone shoud at least work all day without worring about battery. We all have some problems in lives and adding another thing to worry about is not good way to make this fold phones
I'd definitely have Battery anxiety with this Fold. Sucks, because this looks amazing. But being on Florida as well, that Sun is BRIGHT. I need that MAXIMUM brightness to be stellar. Great all around review bro. 👏🏼
Stock Andorid IS too stock...but it's what we NEED. Plenty of companies oit there giving us the version of Android. We need Google's version of Android to remain stock...
@@FilmedbyFresh I think the multitasking features will increase. The full screen app support may be skiddish for the next few years...but we shall see.
If Google could release a real laptop, I would seriously consider going back to all Android. But after being on Apple for the last 3 years, and how seamless I can pickup any of my devices(13PM, Apple Watch Series 7, AirPod Pros, M1 iPad Pro, M1 MacBook Pro) and everything is just there, its a hard sell to let that go. I still keep a Pixel (have the 6 Pro and Pixel Bud Pros, and really thinking about this Fold) but a Chromebook is not the answer for laptop needs. Google finally has phone, watch, tablet, and earbuds, but the lack of a laptop keeps me primarily with Apple. The Samsung ecosystem is right there with Apple, but their downside is all the bloatware and “Samsung apps” that make that change unappealing.
@@FilmedbyFresh Google Messages is actually close enough, that iMessage wouldn’t be a dealbreaker either. FaceTime would be a big one also about leaving the Apple ecosystem though
I have had the pixel fold for 3 days and there is one feature that I cannot get my head around and it's the folds colour settings (settings>wallpaper & style>basic colours) being pastille colours, it makes it feel like the fold was designed for women. Infact it completely destroys the experience personal customisation is a massive part of owning a phone.
@FilmedbyFresh I never had zfold 1 or 2 so zfold3 was my 1st folding device . The zfold 4 and 5 are not a compelling upgrade to me and the pixel folds lack of video out via USB C killed my desire to switch .
Other than the outside screen and it's cameras on a fold.......Samsungs fold still defeats it. And I love the fold 4s outer screen. Its truly one handed use, THEN the inside. But the Pixel keeps u from using the inner screen because the outside is TOO MUCH like a slab style phone. Thats my opinion anyway.
Nice review Brodie, I don’t see any cons though. This is phone of the year thus far for me. No phone is messing with this amazing fold thus far. Side note, you killing these videos bro. Keep it going. 💯
Love your video! I own this phone and love it, but honestly I agree on all your points except your screen on time... 5 hours? I was using my phone all day on my recent trip to Chicago and I was getting 7-8 hours of screen on before needing to charge. 🤔 Not great still but not even close to 5. Love your content still, you've earned a subscriber.
Thanks for the sub! Yeah I have seen varying screen times and from what I hear it depends on how often you’re using the inner display. But despite that I’m still using this phone daily ❤️
I don't understand why a lot of the apps when it comes to unfolded display just goes to one side. I don't want that, on my z fold 4 everything is full screen. Hardware is great. Software needs a lot of work but that's okay because that can be fixed
bro, loved the video, love the message at the end. I think you've convinced me enough as a tech enthusiast and working in the same industry to get the pixel fold.
Here's how I see it. If you've messed with Samsung foldables, The pixel fold will seem like a step down. But for those that bought a pixel fold as their first foldable device, they may enjoy it. Either way, I think the Pixel fold is overpriced. Cool phone, but overpriced. Thanks for the vid.
Love the review bro! I can't recommend the Pixel 7 to just anybody because of the G2.. I didn't buy the Pixel Fold specifically cause of the chip(overheating) , battery life and slow charging!
I am noticing the overheating more and more. I just updated some apps and watched a RU-vid video and it’s noticeably warm. The saving grace for all Pixel products are the perks of Google products like google assistant, voice to text, call features and all of the smart AI things from Google.
Id love to hear a long term review from you. As there has been quite a few updares and feature drops since. You can now force strech apps and hows battery life now better or worse.
Nice review and comparison. I agree on samsung fold vs pixel fold. I had the fold 3 for years and was constantly opening up the phone to view as the main outside screen was way to small. Just picked one up at best buy for 1399 and looking forward to the new experience. Just a word to anyone buying a fold. Buy the extended warranty for 2 years because if not repairs are at least $500 and up . If its the mother board its a throw away and loss.
I just picked up the fold, great deals on it and the PFold2 design changes look very backwards to me, the current fold design is damn near perfect for a folding device and again you can great deals on the 256 gig version right now
Nice one! You snagged the Fold and got a great deal too? That's a win-win. And I totally agree, the current design is pretty darn close to perfection for a folding device.
@@FilmedbyFresh Hmm it's the same crease you would feel with the Z Fold4 when its open in portrait. I'm sure Google will fix this issue with Android 14.
The battery and the charging speed...thank you because mfs completely gloss over this. Idgaf about games or peak performance, but a mid battery and it taking nearly two hours to charge is unacceptable. Google on some tweak shit and it's the reason I sold my 7 Pro and am probably going to skip this one when even my 14 Pro Max (a fucking iPhone) somehow charges faster and that battery lasts twice as long. I'm mad Samsung basically sitting on their asses with the Fold 5, hopefully that OnePlus Open offers a better experience than both since it's likely going to be much cheaper too. Great review my g
Thanks for watching 🙏🏾 yeah it's a solid first gen product but has it's some room for improvement I think the next gen will be good and hopefully this one gets some worthy updates
@@FilmedbyFresh facts I'm hoping the 8 series has significant improvement. The designs and software are on point but until they get this hardware more competitive it's gonna get tougher to recommend or keep. Hoping Tensor 3 is a major jump in optimization
I'm going from a 13 Pro Max to either this or the Fold 5. Wanted the Fold a couple of years ago but held back due to the price but now? Fk it, imma grab one haha!! Btw, nice 50 Years for Hip Hop on there! '73, the year I was born ties in nicely haha!
I was about to buy this phone but then i came across your video and said to myself maybe its not worth it apps dont open full screen thres no point of having a folding phone if apps dont open full screen also for £1800 no stylus support i think ill buy the z fold 5 but any way nice video.
Going to upload a video tomorrow recapping my thoughts a year later after the updates so look out for that. They added the ability to force full screen on any app in a feature drop back in December
If this phone had thin inner bezels and apps were forced to full screen I would buy it. I love the short form factor but it's not for me. I Also do t like that the phone screen and tablet screen aren't independent of each other. I give it a 4 out of 5.
You have to use adaptive brightness outside to get the peak brightness for the phone so you can see it perfectly fine. Peak brightness is 1550 nits when you use adaptive brightness outside.
@@Renegade48thanks for pointing that out I put a pinned comment about it, you know the struggle out here with little to no canopy or cloud coverage we need all the nits lol
I find it funny apples users doing reviews on android phone is pointless because in there eyes of I sheep all phones are trash, When Apple comes out with an folder phone the phone will be 3000 and apples will have no problems paying that
In those same photos you're showing and others I've seen and other reviews, the Pixel Fold is actually sharper than the Iphone 14 pictures. You can clearly see that in some of those photos. The texture of the road, the buildings and the tree leaves. The photo at 11:34 for example, look at the leaves in the foreground and the building in the background. The Pixel is clearly more detailed. Even 11:07. Her palm is clearly more detailed with better color accuracy with the Fold. Overall, color accuracy tend to be better. The Pixel cameras, IMO, have always been at the top and it shows right there in those photos.
Sharpening and detail are different imo when you zoom in on the images the iPhone has more detail but the Pixel post processing definitely sharpens the image more
@@FilmedbyFresh I've had my Pixel Fold for several days and finally had a chance to test it against a co-worker's iPhone 14 pro max and the results surprised both of us. We chose distant objects with lettering and numbers to test the sharpness and the Pixel won hands down. Some were totally unreadable on the iPhone even though the picture otherwise looked OK and that was at full zoom. That cleared up any doubts for me. Maybe it was post processing on the iPhone being at fault. If so, Apple has some work to do.
You can turn off the slow charging at high battery level. It slows down to save battery wear... Peak brightness is 1,450 nits on inner screen and I think 1,550 on outter. Maybe you had auto brightness on. Disable it and turn on max brightness, it's fine outside here
@@FilmedbyFresh can't beat iPhone battery life. Nothing on Android can come close. They have been making their own processor forever and also get the most efficient node years before anyone else. Hopefully now with Google making their own processor they can catch up.
would’ve loved to seen camera examples of the front cam. the skin tones on the pixel def looked better / more natural than the iPhone that’s awesome. I agree it’s not worth it especially with no pen support
Wouldn't be surprised if the _vast majority_ of sold Pixel Folds were in the US market (biggest suckers for marketing) Bc what does this phone even objectively offer for almost two thousand dollars?? - garbage software that doesn't even really take advantage of being a tablet - garbage third party app support and compatibility - garbage battery life - no stylus support It's literally just a normal phone that can increase screen size. It's not a tablet in any sense. Even the form factor is super niche. Ain't nobody adapting this lol. If you want to see foldables with normal form factors, just look at the Chinese devices like Magic V2, Mate X3, Mix Fold 2 etc.
Well the Fold is only released in US, UK, Germany and Japan with the majority going to the states, so yeah US market is the priority. Also none of the phone you mentioned really exist in the states, no one is importing with the exception of some enthusiasts. Most people out here go through their carrier’s that offer generous trade in offers. Most people that get this phone will get it for half off with a free pixel watch
@@FilmedbyFresh whether they are sold in the western market is irrelevant to your suggestion that other companies should adapt the Pixel Fold's form factor. just bc those phones aren't in the western market doesn't mean they don't exist. they do exist. companies such as Samsung (another _asian_ company) is very aware I'm sure, OnePlus is chinese anyways and, again, the form factor of the pixel fold is very niche. There is no way Samsung will go from the current form factor to the Pixel Fold's. They will just adapt a "normal" form factor like the Chinese manufacturer's, if they change theirs. OnePlus Open will probably already have a pretty normal form factor (Chinese after all). The Pixel Fold's form factor will remain unique to Google. If anything, I can see _them_ change the form factor in the future, rather than other companies adapting their current one
@@bexclue3007 they don’t exist to the general consumer in America. The passport form factor is superior imo 🤷🏾♂️ regardless of what any other company is making or where they are selling it I prefer width of this foldable outer display
I also daily drive 2 phones. Right now 3 due to T-mobile giving me a Razor + Foldable for free. I will never give up my iPhone as my main device due to security and updates. But love the pixel because it's the Smartest Android phone IMO. The Moto nailed it this time though. Very good device and one of the best screens I have ever seen. The colors on max brightness for the Razor + are stunning. As is the 165Hz refresh. I always use Nova Pro launcher for pixels though to spruce up Stock Android. So far I am loving the pixel Fold. Only had it 2 days. I don't use it for games or video. Just daily email surfing and pics. Hopefully they do update to help battery life....But again I daily drive a iPhone 14 Pro Max. So not to worried.
I use my pixel Fold more than I used to use my S20 (last phone) just cause it's a new toy etc but I'm finding the battery life to be about the same. I take it off the wireless charger at about 6am every day and I don't put it down to charge until 10-11pm and I usually have between 10-20% battery left which I think is totally fine. I haven't felt the need to not use my phone throughout the day to conserve life. It just has enough to make it through a long day of medium to heavy use which I think is totally acceptable.
The Z fold 5 has better software that takes advantage of the display but the form factor of the pixel fold is much better in my opinion. The outer display is more useable. I would go with the pixel fold everytime tbh
I just finished setting mine up and I'm just so happy to have a foldable from Google themselves. So far, I absolutely love the device and have been BEGGING for this form factor in a foldable that is available here in the US. Gives me the feel of a blackberry passport when closed. My Blackberry still sits on my desk, fully functional. Anyway, after having all the other folds, flips, and the surface duos, this is my favorite already and it's only been an hour lol Good video btw. Love to see another brother in tech space putting out that crispy, 4k content.
Man great, great video. I was on the fence about getting this device and what you said at the end kind of made me go ahead with the purchase. Folks like you and I are not the average consumers and we know what we are getting into. So here goes.
Dual Screens and Folds still not entirely there maybe 1, 2 or 3 more iterations, Yes I owned dual sceen for THREE years since 2020 (loved them both as I was able to upgrade and pay the difference only, they both eventually let me down ) . Modern single slabs still better ovearall. That should change one day as more/bigger is better for many things. I was one of those people that said I could never go back to slabs, and beleive it , well I did. I still think folds/dual in out in end or seperates (TBA). For now Im back to single slab and enjoying it.
