This video just really made me realize how used to drawing and writing on glass I have gotten without even realizing it. I used to find it very difficult to control the pencil or draw straight lines because of the low friction on the ipad. I never really thought about a screen protector until now. Watching this video made me realize i don’t need anything…It just made me aware that my issue is no longer an issue. Honestly the Matte finish looks like it hurts the image quality some. First time I ever watched a product review that convinced me I don’t need any product… thanks i guess.
I just took out my screen protector and for some reason it's actually easier for me to draw I think you're right my issue was assuming the screen protector would be easier for me when infant it made it harder !! Wow 😅
I never tried Paperlike because its reviews were too mixed. But I tried 3 other screen protectors before I got Bellemond. The difference is amazing! No more slippery Apple pencil. Just another tip - using syrup brush for sketching helps with pencil control a lot.
I hate paper like. The installation does include a squeegee to push away bubbles or wet cloths to clean the screen. For the price, I’ve had much higher quality with cheaper protectors
the reviews aren’t mixed at all. the people who gives paperlike good reviews/recommend it were all paid and sponsored by paperlike. reviews by unsponsored people who actually used the product for months all say that it sucks
@@dandelionofluff-2791 I just replaced my first PaperLike screen protector after 18 months of daily writing and note taking use. I installed the 2nd one from the package. Old one was pretty beat up. I like it just fine, but may give this one a try next time. Company pays for it so cost doesn't really matter to me.
Was looking for the sketchbook feel, I had never considered it taking away the free flow feeling of painting/brush strokes. My main work involves free flow lettering. I would absolutely hate losing that feeling. It just never occurred to me because I was so fixated on making the screen more paper like. Thnx. You save me money and frustration!!!
I LOVE your description when you’re saying that it just can’t be that hard. I love Bellemonde and have been using for a few months. My husband had a great deal of trouble when putting the screen protector on my older iPad (10.5) so I fired him from screen protector duty! 🤣 He got a new iPad for me last week (the latest 12.9 pro) so I ordered the Bellemonde in the new size and put it on alone. I love digital painting and drawing with it. It actually feels real and especially when I use the pointed fine tips on my Apple Pencil. I use pen and ink with Watercolor on 300lb paper and same weight when I draw so this really feels so natural to me and I love it!! 🤩
I’ve actually tried the Bellemond screen protectors, I actually prefer Tersley ones! About the same price, but a little less grainy. I’ve found the Bellemond to reduce the clarity and picks up dead skin from swiping a bit more than the Tersleys, which are a bit smoother. Still have Bellemond spares for my mini and pro.
@@Emillu I'm looking for one too, I just got the bellemond one but its extremely grainy with that rainbowy effect, have you found a better alternative yet?
I generally use a small amount of pineapple juice that I let dry on the screen to become a type of skin, rather than any of these. Generally, about 10 layers works really well to become a skin for the screen. Each skin will last you about three days. The screen might look a little blurry, but the experience is priceless.
I recently got the Bellemond PET protective film and magnetic detachable smooth kent paper screen protector for the 12.9” iPad. It’s really great! The PET film doesn’t interfere with the screen clarity. I attach the magnetic protector on top of the PET film when taking notes and have not encountered any issues with loss of sensitivity, etc. with the Apple pencil. The texture of the kent smooth is wonderful. The previous brand I tried before that was the STARY brand on Amazon and I couldn’t stand it. It was similar to nails on a chalkboard for me.
@@evipeasy The Bellemond PET film is very smooth to the touch. Their detachable smooth kent paper protector has some texture to it like all "paperlike" screen protectors. I don't think it's overly rough, but the texture is noticeable if you have it on while scrolling with your fingers a lot. I only use the detachable protector when writing on the iPad. For other things like watching videos, etc. I take it off.
@@4190james thanks! Because I was planning to buy it! I also had a another question, does it like destroy a Apple Pencil and does it leave marks by drawing with the Apple Pencil with the screen protecter by using it for so long?
@@evipeasy I have not had it long enough to say if it wears down pencil tips a lot faster. I can say that I have had it for a few weeks and my pencil tip still looks good. However, I am not an artist. I only use the pencil to write notes and am not a "hard pressure" writer. Apple pencil tip replacements are inexpensive for an Apple product (4 for $20 at Apple store). I do not have any marks on my screen from writing with the detachable screen protector. Keep in mind that I do have the PET film on the screen underneath the detachable protector which protects the screen from any inadvertent scratches. I will say to make sure you clean your screen before putting on the detachable protector to remove particles in between your screen and the protector.
@@catlady7183 the nib i actually don’t know if it looks okay or not. It’s also my first time buying an iPad. But the nib somehows looks sharper is that normal?
I’m a total Bellemond fan. I first switched from the ghastly (for me) Paperlike to a standard matte screen protector and then discovered the Bellemond. Been using it for a couple of years on my iPad mini and now I have it for my iPad Air 5 - and, game-changer for all those who miss the dynamic of a shiny clean screen for watching content - this one is Magnetic!!!! So you can take it on and off … a-ma-zing! Yes, your tips wear out faster, but you certainly don’t have to buy branded ones. I’m also using a fine, metal point nib now. All in all a magnificent writing experience.
I had a comment asking how it was magnetic, but it has disappeared, so I'll just answer here: the Magnetic Bellemond I'm using has magnetic strips along both long edges so it just snaps strongly to the screen, no slippage during use (and you just need to lift it from the corner to remove) Been using this for 2 weeks solidly now and still thoroughly recommend.
Thank you I was torn between the stick on bellemond and the magnetic one.. Bought the magnetic now :) I've bought paperlike twice already and just find it too expensive, and also gets scratches to easily... Was replacing them after 4-6 months 😭
I found this review to see if Paperlike finally improved their packaging. I ordered from Paperlike three years ago and it got folded in my mail box. While not their fault, it's such an oversight by them to ship it in non-sturdy packaging. I had to get TWO replacements sent to me because the mail delivery person kept folding it despite the fact it said "DO NOT FOLD, TREAT LIKE DIPLOMA" on the packaging. Their packaging is nothing more than just a cardboard envelope. Their customer support had the audacity to tell me to ask my mail person to treat my package carefully, but however where I am from we do not have that level of communication with our postal service. That's simply impossible. They refunded me fully thankfully, and I'm using the creased protector still, but every year I look up unboxxing videos to see if they finally changed their packaging and they have not. But this looks like it's an actual box that will protect it from being folded in the mail.
As a follow up, I ordered this and applied it perfectly. The box it comes in is definitely much more sturdier so if you have the same problem as me where the postal service will fold your package this is leagues better than Paperlike
A good tip is if you find your screen protector to be too textured/grippy, scrape a plastic credit card over the whole protector to smoothen it out to your liking, I buy a generic no name brand that is too textured for my taste, so I do a few scrape passes till it's just right
After watching this video I have to say yes. I bought this screen protector and I couldn’t be happier I even really like the matte finish on it and how it looks and feels while normally using the iPad. Thanks for this review and steering me to this amazing product! It feels great for note taking and especially Coloring
I bought the Bellemond screen protector looking at all the positive reviews and I was very disappointed. The colours went dull and the screen had a light but very unpleasant prismatic effect due to the internal refractions and scattering of the satin finish. Yes, the feeling of paper is there and is indeed easier to draw, but it also makes colouring and digital painting way worse. Maybe it's fine if you only work in black and white, but otherwise, is a biiiiiig no for me.
You are so right - I was convinced by another youtuber to go for Bellemond and while the first one was ok (though like you're saying, the colours were not good), the second one in the pack was complete rubbish. There were lines in it which I never got rid of, and it was super hard to apply. I just today applied a Paperlike and oh boy, I wish I had bought that first. It's has many more things to help with application (guiding stickers etc), there's a video you can watch, and now that I have it on, it looks much better than the Bellemond ever did. Take it from me - if you need to write on it (as I do) or draw, get the Paperlike. You won't regret it. Or if you're find with drawing on the ipad as is, leave it that way. I just can't get used to it.
A bit like you. Came to Paperlike via a number of other manufactures (which I wasn’t happy with). Very pleased with the Paperlike. Decided it is either a blank screen or the Paperlike. Appreciate reviews of other products but this guy does seem to have a down on Paperlike - if his other videos are something to go on.
I’m using PenPad by PenTip right now. The sensation of paper is not as good as other screen protectors but the color transparency is very good and the fact that is magnetic and not fixed on the screen makes it totally worth for me. You can just remove it if you need to color or to watch a movie. A bit on the expensive side thought… but if it last long enough it will be worth its price.
so i've had my ipad for like 2 weeks, put the bellemond on because everyone and their wife on youtube recommended putting a paper feel protector.... brand new apple pencil straight out of the box.. in two weeks i can see the metal through the tip. I've only been using it for taking notes for like an hour a day - it's INSANE how fast this wears tips down. i'm now having to buy extra tips. i do like that it reduces the glare because I like to write first thing in the morning outside and feels like writing on paper and i knew it would wear down my tip a bit faster... A BIT.... but damn... i thought i'd get more than 2 weeks out of it. seriously considering just ditching the protector and getting a glove because that's utterly ridiculous
Try a regular screen protector with a new tip and a tip cover for the Apple Pencil. I’ve found that it gives resistance like writing on paper but without ruining the Apple Pencil or effecting the brightness/visibility of the screen.
@@solarphina i didn't get on with the tips at all well to be honest - because i write very quickly i found it quite tiring to write with those silicon tips as they kind of drag along the screen. I've discovered ballpoint replacement nibs for the apple pencil on amazon which are pretty inexpensive, don't wear down and actually allow me a lot more precision and they're fantastic! defo recommend and i can keep my paper texture screen protector which is a biiig plus! cheers for the idea though!
I recently bought paperlike but kept the receipt and I decided not to open it yet, after seeing that the apple pencil wipes out and that you can see the strikes I’ll immediately return it and try bellemond or tech armor :)) tyy for ur vids, they helped me a lot!
I don’t have anything to compare to but that might be a good thing because I love this screen protector and don’t feel a need to try a different one. I had my sister help my apply it and have absolutely zero bubbles or problems we were shocked it went so well
The best for me is actually the Japanese etched glass screen protector with the oleophobic coating. Because it feels exactly like a Wacom tablet that i am so used to.
Okay but, firstly you are applying the screen protector wrong. Yeah it does work, but next time, try not to press down until the protector is fully settled (aka "stick") down, as that would make way less bubble for you to worry about. Secondly the wear down on tips shouldn't matter, if you draw a lot, definitely get a metal tip, and more preferably even, a titanium tip. What matters is that the screen protector shouldn't give you more fiction than you need, as that would make drawing much more tiring. Thirdly, giving the limited investigation online, I think basically the screen protector should feel smooth to touch while still provide friction to pen strokes.
I had a similar sensation when using the Amazon Kindle Scribe. It was the first device that allowed me to write naturally. I since try to find a solution for a normal pad, like my 11" Xiaomi Pad 6 and i hope this screenprotector is the answer. Thank you for the video!
So I just got an iPad Pro 11” 3rd gen - this is my “do it all” device🤣. Basically this is my device for blogging, planning, journaling, reading, media…you name it! It was important I find a screen protector that won’t interfere with my enjoyment of the iPad when not writing, while providing enough friction so my pencil doesn’t slide around like it’s dipped in butter. After watching your video I immediately purchased the Bellemond and my GOODNESS is this thing ever amazing! Thank you for the tip🙏🏻. It’s perfect for all my needs!
I suggest you pick gloss screen proctertor or tempered glass Matte screen protector for drawing only not recommended for people who not draw or just want editing + gaming
Really bad product: It's actually really hard to install because you can't even use the Hinge method since they made the first protective layer larger than the screen protector. The cleaning tissue is really small and average quality, the card is not in plastic as mentioned in the video but it's just a hard cardboard that will start bending after a while when pushing the bubbles. If you do buy it at least don't follow the way it's shown in the video to apply it: It's the worst way ! you will get shit tones of bubbles and will catch a lot of dust this way. Really disapointed by this video and this product. I bought it because it's from a japanese company and was expecting high quality standard but it's not. Also the screen proctector doesn't exactly fit the screen, you will have some gaps: So if you want something neat, you will need a really good eyesight to center properly since you can't use the borders of the screen for alignment. If you follow the border of the screen you will end up with gaps on the other side. This video is really not a serious review but just an ad.
Wait so out of the two options the Bellemond and the Tech Armor you've reviewed,, which out of these two is the best all around for an artist for note taking, sketching and painting (least impact to the gorgeous display)?
I noticed that your Bellemond Amazon links are to the normal (non-Kent) High Quality Paper version and not the Kent Paper version like you are using in the video. Have you tried the normal paper one as well as Kent? They say it is less smooth. I would love to know what you think about the difference between the two versions. Great review, BTW. Thanks!
Late but I accidentally bought the non-Kent version (not from the links here, just my own stupidity of not checking) and it was not nice and I found there were sensitivity issues with my pen not registering. Really rough feeling. Also the installation is not as easy as it looks in this video. Took me hours to get it on with no bubbles or hair and dust trapped.
I just watched your review of the Tech Armor screen protector which you recorded a few days prior to this review. I know you’re busy but it would be interesting to see a comparison between the Bellemond to the Tech Armor. I just ordered the Tech Armor screen protector but haven’t applied it yet.
Update to my comment 3 months ago - I installed my Bellmond protector on my iPad last January. I do mostly writing. My pencil tip wore out in late October - about the same time I had to replace the screen protector because I wore it smooth. 10 months. Now, granted, it was my original pencil tip from when I bought the iPad in 2017, so I can’t, in all honesty, saw it positively was the screen protector. I do like the Bellmond and installed it on my new iPad 12.9" when I bought it in September.
I got a ESR to test if the texture thing was for me, and I love it, but instead of getting the nib sharpered, I got the surface smooth in a few weeks, and I didn't expect that, I even got the nibs. But I didn't need to use it. I'd like to get a permanent protector, but I don't want it to get smooth in a few weeks :v
You may not check comments on your old videos but I am interested if you tried the High Quality or Firm writing paper from Belmond? I have had the same paperlike on for 3 years now. I love it but it has become smooth from use. I do want to note I don’t use my iPad for art but rather for work. I use it like an endless notebook so I don’t have the same kind of wear that an artist like yourself would. At any rate I want to restore the paperlike feel to my iPad and like everything I am stressing about which to go with. Paperlike (perfectly adequate) or Bellamond Kent or high quality (which is cheaper too). The feel is important to me.
have only tried paperlike and i have used it for a long time and i have no issues what so ever, but i would love to try something else soon, i guess... thanx for the video
How would you compare this one with the iCarez? I use my iPad mainly for note taking and casually for Netflix. Also, I appreciate the time and effort you put in your videos. Keep doing the great work!!
I think Bellemond is the best for note taking especially if your looking for something that feels like a pencil on paper. iCarez in my opinion is bit more versatile feeling like a pen and dry erase marker depending on the brushes that you use. Both are about the same when viewing videos in my opinion and unless your viewing all white screens often I experience minimal rain-bowing. Hope that helped and thank your for the comment about the time I put into these videos I really appreciate that!
I use that one on my iPad and it’s great. It’s sightly grainy but not really noticeable unless your looking for it. I got some metal Apple Pencil tips as well and that really helps.
I just tested out the Paperlike 2.1. It was barely a difference. I remember using the bellemond and it was definitely something memorable. I just reordered it cause I am not keeping the paperlike
Silly product. My 12.9 iPad now feels like a 15 year old kindle. Pixels look blown out and my pencil tip life is defo going to be cut. Only that I applied it so well I’ll keep it on over night. Procreate users now get a Sketchbook/Fresco/clip studio app pencil experience, a problem with Procreate not the iPad screen.
Like Paperlike it's just dropshipping, the two screens are from aliexpress and for this one with no single rebranding, you can tell by the package. Nice ad btw
How is this using it outside with the sun? Is this a total anti glare from the sun? I want to watch movies/sports on my ipad in the backyard during the warm months.
Hi, thank you for your video. It is beneficial. What about the screen quality? Is it good? I have paperlike and it is quite bad, It decreases the screen quality.
if anyone feels annoying about small bubbles that can't be removed, just play a movie with full brightness or do something that makes iPad hot. all small bubbles will be gone.
So this looks like it has the same reflections as the paperlike, or did you cut the protector and half like you did on the paper like with you? I would like to see what the contrast looks like, and if the protector reduces saturation, just like the paperlike.
Does this affect the quality of watching videos or playing video games ? Will I have to remove it if I want to do something other than drawing or writing ?
I have Bellemond and the grain seems to be sprayed on and after some time, the grain wears off and now I have a smooth surface again with no paper feel. My Tech Armour lasted over a year of hard work but I cannot get it in Germany anymore. but Bellemond wore off in about three months.
I have to keep on saying it. These brands are overpriced. I use a Chinese knock off brand matte protector and tip covers that were a fraction of the price of big brands and not only I get the feel and protection I look for, but also have that feature of not having scratch marks on the screen (to be honest, I thought it was the normal thing to expect, I only clean my screen and they’re gone). I do have to add that I have another protector on my laptop that I bought locally also from a knock off Chinese brand and that one looks horrible, the scratches never went away (my laptop is touchscreen and has a pencil as well). But I did notice that the material mentioned in that packaging was different from the one mentioned in my iPad’s screen protector’s packaging. I’ve talked too much with my Industrial Designer friend to know that it’s all about the composition of the materials. It could look the same, but it’s not, and you may want to stay away of protector that have the same material as Paperlike for this reason (don’t remember if it was TPU or something like that). Also, no offend, but I find it always surprising that people from more developed countries pay the same amount worth 2 weeks of food for me just for a screen protector. I always see these reviews and always get to think about how different lives are in different countries. I have a sort of system for understanding economy in other countries and always look for the equivalent of their money. I’m assuming $20USD is like spending $200.00MXN and let me tell you that the first thing people in here will say regarding to that is “What do I need 2 pieces for?” 😂 Screen protectors are usually durable, so it’s not common to change them often (tempered glass protectors are kept even when broken, because it doesn’t affect us much unless is shattered). Just wanted to share that. I loved the packaging, though.
Totally agreed, in fact, there was a thing he said in the other video where he was bashing matte screen protectors because they wear down the tips, and it was a thing about spending a lot of money stupidly to replace both screen protectors and apple pencil tips... So I find it very interesting that he's now LOVING like nothing else this protector now, when in all honesty, aren't they all the matte protectors made of the same materials?
@@emiliogomez8164 They can be made of different materials, as far as I know. There are somes that I think are made of TPU that cannot hold on at all, they scratch even if you wear a tip cover (I assume that is the material of Paperlike). I once bought one of those and had to change it immediately because it got ruined in the first 10 minutes. I guess he was just trying to say that this is a cheaper option than changing both the tips and the cover, but still is all overpriced and not so useful in a long term.
@@ferasgmusic en Amazon el material que Paperlike dice tener es tereftalato de poliuretano (PET), entonces está raro... porque es el mismo de Bellemond
Hi I'm a beginner artist And my dad wants to buy a tablet for me to draw on And I was wondering if I should also get this screen protector Will it make drawing digital easier?
it depends on how you typically draw! if you do your best on the slight resistance of paper, then you should get it if its not too much of a financial burden to your budget
I will have to check this out. Thanks for the review. How much does this affect the color of the screen. Is there a lot of saturation loss due to the matte finish? is there any "rainbowing" effect. I am also interested in trying some magnetic screen protectors that allow you to remove the screen protector when watching movies, or want to see the true color of your artwork. My only concern with magnetic screen protectors is that without an adhesive, it might feel loose.
The colors look very similar to the regular screen at least with my artwork. There is a drop in the sharpness in some areas. I see it most when reading text but I have to be right up to the screen to notice it. The rainbowing effect can defiantly appear on a white canvas and it can bother some peoples eyes. Maybe i'm blind but until a google search I never even knew what it looked like. I've heard about the magnetic screen protectors in the past. I think they are a cool idea if you are using your iPad at home for sure. I saw a video awhile back and the magnetic screen protector was falling off when using a case. Maybe i'll try one out on this channel someday It would be interesting to test out. Hope this helped.
@@TonyJeffers this was something I was wondering, too. I’m fairly new to digital art and note taking because until recently I’ve only ever used my iPhone 12 Pro. I’m getting an IPad Air 5 soon and have heard the god awful reviews on paper like wearing down Apple pencils. I’m so glad I found this review because this is a brand I haven’t seen much of but so many of the negative reviews are about things I’m looking for from my screen protector. I was also wondering about rainbowing and blurred lines when writing because of the matte texture, but this reply was really informative and put me at ease. Thanks for the great content!!
It’s really weird that I have a totally different experience using my paperlike screen protector, I’ve been using it for half a year, basically just making notes. And it still worked well after this long.
How? I bought it and after 2 days using it all the scratch marks on the screen protector made the matte feel go away and now its just like a normal screen protector that makes paper sound when you brush your hand on it
General question to any commenters but how long did your screen protecter last? I used it fairly heavily and after about a month it didn’t have any more friction.
They dont sell the bellemond kent on my country but i want to get a paper kinda feel while drawing, do you recomend using the bellemond but for writing? Or is it very different from the kent one?
Personally, I avoid plastic screen protectors because they can tear. I don’t like the feel of plastic, and I would much rather have a matte glass screen protector on my iPad. Plus, those glass ones comes with a guide to center the screen protector properly. I have the Mothca matte glass screen protectors kn my iPad mini 6.
