In this video I talked about why I think I didn't get into Oxford and rejection. I'm not in the position of giving you guys tips and tricks on how to get in, but hopefully you guys can learn from my mistakes. I know this is a slightly different video than what I usually post on RU-vid but I really want to talk about this topic because rejection is definitely something we will experience sometime in our lives.

Who am I?
My name is Syndey, and I am from Malaysia! I’ve studied in China in different international schools for eight years, and I’ve recently just completed my IB exams (May 2021 cohort)! I applied to Biomedical Sciences for Uni, but I don’t know which university I will be going to yet (I will decide sometime in July hehe).

Psychology HL
Biology HL
Chemistry HL
Mathematics Analysis and Approaches SL

I love RU-vid for lots of reasons, it is really nice when the algorithm kicks in. A couple of observations and I hope you agree, tell me if you don't. You were in love with the idea of Oxford but you had not understood what Oxford wants from you. Getting the interview is hard enough, but then you have to perform at the interview and what Oxbridge wants are candidates that have an insatiable interest and passion for the subject. This passion did not appear to be there for you? It goes without saying that if you apply to Oxford you are likely to get the grades to get in, but that applies to everyone else that applies. So one of the ways to sort candidates is by the passion for the subject.

Thank you so much for this video, I'm applying to Oxford. I'm a home student and I don't have GCSEs instead I did CBSEs, I'm applying for medicine and they said they looked at my BMAT more, I still have time do you think getting a higher score, will advantage me? like 6.5s and 7s, so that I can set a target. Thank you. xx

They equally consider other 10th grade exams like CBSE, etc instead of GCSEs

Does not matter. Good degree from any top Russell group university will do same

agreed! I think for me it was just a matter of challenging myself, I am studying in Singapore right now and I have no regrets as well!

@@syndeywong4673 Friends from University of York did maths and finance and have friends from university of Durham all working for top investment banks. Some friends from Cambridge were rejected. Most courses same entry requirements anyway at top universities so little difference.
