When people compare mid characters like Bocchi and Komi to Tomoko Kuroki, one of the most psychologically-poignant depictions of avoidant personality disorder and neuroticism that balances comedy and tragedy in a way no other character I've ever seen come even close to, I kinda die a little inside. Seriously, there is no dark comedy anime that comes even CLOSE to this show in how it can make you cry-laughing one minute then just crying the next. It's such a shame that Watamote was made 10 years ago and not today, because maybe now people would be able to appreciate this show a little bit more and we could have a second season. But no, season 4 of To-Rent-A-Girlfriend was more important, among the other 5000 romance slice of life pieces of slop people mindlessly consume that vomit out the same boring protag with the same cardboard cut-out female slav---sorry, I meant the same female characters with 5 cliched personality types that are never diverged from or expanded upon who subserviently obsess over the aforementioned boring pretty boy anime protag. I'm glad we could have what are essentially the same show reprinted with full budgets over and over again so actually bold, unique, and meaningful slice of life shows with a purpose like Watamote can rot in the annals of history. Sorry if I come across as salty, but I totally am. How anime fans have the audacity to call this show bad because of how "uniquely cringe" it is is just so unselfaware that it's as comical as it is baffling as it is infuriating. Nothing about this show is cringier than the other stuff you guys watch, you just don't like how effortlessly and poignantly this show and Tomoko reflect the bitter realities of being a loner/neet. The cringy parts aren't what hurt your soul, it's the REAL bits that leave you mentally defenseless as the camera is pointed back at you that leave its mark deep, and neurotic people hate introspection. How anime fans of all people can call anything cringe without self-reflection is hilarious. Anyway, this show should have done better and we should have had a season 2. Sorry, I wasn't bashing you, the commentor, specifically. This was just a rant on my end about how much the discourse around this show annoys me even now over 10 years since it was released. I'm still holding out hope for a second season, but I'm not holding my breath.
As someone who suffers from heavy social anxiety, I really connected with watamote when first watching it and it is one of my favorite animes. I like that it teaches that not everything is perfect all the time, and that people who have disorders like social anxiety struggle with certain things.
a lot of people say this anime is cringe. you feel the cringe from it because social anxiety isn't cute. it's not a cute shy girl struggling to communicate, it's not glorifying social anxiety. it just shows the real social anxiety so of course you won't get good vibes from it.
Anime fans are the last people on earth who have the right to call something cringe. Nothing about this show is cringier than the oother shit they watch, the difference is that the cringe in this show serves a purpose and adds to the work whereas the the 4th season of Rent-A-Girlfriends' only purpose is to further compact Japan's declining birth-rate. Never let people get away with calling this show "uniquely cringy" because its so BS it hurts...
Idc what people think this anime is my favorite i love it ❤its not cringe to me cause its showing what people really go through social anxiety and other stuff i can relate and underneath Tomoko rough edges like you said shes a great person she cant help herself she’s adorable to me this also open people’s eyes to what people go through id want to help her, and agreed they should make season 2
Thank you so much for making this video, I love the series since i also relate too much to her, and i find amazing how they can create a girl character that you can totally relate to, she's completely different from how other animes represents girls, so, yeah, i love it. Your narration and script was so well done, the video aswell, I hope your channel gets more views, definitely suscribing rn btw, i think the manga is not finished yet? so maybe there's still hope.
I honestly think she's cute. Megumi thinks she is. It's just that she's not the wifey cute type but more like a person you just want to guide or protect
@@diazkohen2149 Komiyama is one of my least favorite characters and it's a shame that she got screen time but not the other girls. Also, i totally forgot that apparently Nemo got screen time in one of the two animated shows, do you know which and where by any chance?
@@HydraSplatlingCEO That first year festival class? Around last episode 11 i think. I don't know why the hell in the anime Nemoto Hina has black hair while in the manga she has pink hair...
Megumi asking Tomoko to hug her one last time. Me: *Kingdom Hearts music plays* Yo what the heck,. C'mon stop making me cry. C'MON STOP! I'M DORWINING IN MY TEARS! ;(
I just finished watching the anime today and hearing about where the series has where it will go makes me so damn happy for Tomoko that she is finally getting the friends she wants that is something I so desire now a second season where she finally gets some of the friends she wants and with Devil is a Part-Timer and Panty and Stocking shows we'd thought we would NEVER see again coming back who's to say Watamote isn't in with the croud?
Watamote needs about 3 possibly 4 seasons. Shockingly there is a lot of ground to cover after the school festival. Yuri is adorable, but seeing tomoko fawn and swoon under asuka would be the highlights of the anime. Nemo has some interesting story lines as well I guess. But then we get the best character, Ucchi. Ucchi is a character who I just need to see animated. For those gross people that know, you grossly know.
I just finished the anime and I'm totally agree with you with all you said. It's frustrating not seing any change in Tomoko's situation, and I'm sad cause the manga isn't published in my country. An other anime who need a season is Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs, it's a comedy/fantasy/very ecchi, it's really fun, the story is cool and the mangas have a satisfy ending. In general i don't like ecchi/harem anime but i found this one really awesome and in abscence of a 2nd season i bought all the mangas
I loved this anime! I relate with Tomoko so fuckin much since I also have social anxiety making it so relatable, I really want a second season for this some day. I'm probably gonna start the Manga soon since I loved the anime so much even though this video did spoil a bit Ik I'll still enjoy it and relate to it. Can't wait to start the manga soon tho!
It's a crime that we didn't get a S2 ever since. I loved the anime but I love even more the mange. I adore all the new characters the author brought to the scene. Yuri is similar to Tomoko, Yoshida is hilarious. Delinquent outside but a cute girl inside.
aharen-san , i never expected for it to get an anime but now i want a 2nd season. i truly wish watamote anime was aired in 2022 instead of 2013 , animes now have 2nd seasons right away and even get official dubs when the anime isn't even finished

The decision to make more seasons of WataMote isn't really up to SilverLink, it's up to publisher Square-Enix to commission SilverLink to resume the anime adaptation. (SPOILERS) At this point, WataMote would need at least three more 12-episode seasons to catch up to the manga unless they skip over a lot of the story. I know a lot of people want the Kyoto trip within the first few episodes of the second season but, considering that it takes place during the October of Tomoko's second year in high school roughly a whole year after where the anime left off, I think Kyoto would be probably be covered in episodes 10 through 12 of the second season. Aside from the briefest of cameos in the OVA, the anime hadn't even gotten to introducing Kotomi Komiyama and there are other things I'd want to see animated before the Kyoto trip including Hina Nemoto's early attempts at being friendly with Tomoko, Tomoko being forced to cheer the baseball team (which introduced two girls, albeit one of them only over the phone, who would go on to be major characters later on), and Tomoko's trip to visit Kii-chan in Ibaraki Prefecture.
i've waiting so much for a 2 temp, like 2014, its sad and, in the manga tomoko get new friends, and so much funny scenes i ever see in a manga, sounds overate, but only the people read it the manga, haves so much references like games and other animes and, how tomoko in the manga, its a fucking great edgy character with a funny grace haha
Damn, i always loved the anime but i never had any interest in the manga since i heard they made it into a "Yuri harem" or something like that. But after this video i might check it out. Hopefully we get a season 2.
@@2diefor its not that Yuri tbh, people just memeing it. Funny is there is a character name Yuri who brags about her relationship to other female character lmao.
I am not sure why this anime did not get Season 2. It's totally relatable and funny. Easy to watch too. I don't understand why it's not getting much love.
I think the anime is great just the way it is. Not all sociophobes make friends. Not all dreams come true. Sometimes life is cruel and does not give us what we want, even if we deserve it and are a good person. Contemporary art teaches us that we can achieve anything by deliberately omitting the fact that the world is generally cruel and merciless, especially to those who are different from others. In the anime version, Kuroki remained a strange girl with no friends. It happens in the world as well.
"what other manga do you think deserve a second season" toilet bound hanako kun. it could litterally become SO MUCH MORE popular if they would actually do a second season.
The author should've rushed her character development a bit like on ep 5. It could've been fun to watch. Honestly I'm kinda disgusted with how they portray Tomoko Don't get me wrong I Think Tomoko is cute. Tho I'm the one who feels embarrassed for her and it's not a great feeling. So yeah the author should've add something interesting early on. anyways even as an otaku myself I find Tomoko weird. Atleast she bathe though. Do people actually act like that? Anyways the anime getting second season is 50/50 it would be a gamble for the anime. It's either people would give it a second chance or just plain ignore it, but as a weeb I will! I AM DESPERATELY BEGGING FOR ANOTHER SEASON! PLEASE GIVE THIS ANIME JUSTICE!
The anime doesn't deserve a second season, essentially if it was gonna follow the manga. Many people think WataMote manga goes good cause they didn't really saw what was happening in the manga. In the manga, Tomoko doesn't overcome her problems but rather just gets a harem at the same time it is removing the plot without even bringing an actual growing up of the character. The manga gets so filled with random characters that they don't receive the deepness or anything really to make them even memorable, to a point where you basically not only lose the notion of them but you can't feel like they serve an actual purpose. The anime managed to make its ending actually a good finale, even though it leaves us with no further context what would Tomoko do next. We can see her evolution at the end of the anime ever so slightly but still keeping the plot existence at the same time that makes us know Tomoko will evolve and will grow up but will still be Tomoko.
>Tomoko doesn't overcome her problems but rather just gets a harem Literally, the main point of the first summer break and early 2nd school year was forcing in Tomoko into social situations, having her become more comfortable as time goes on. She doesn't get an harem, but a group she actually fits in with. Nemo and Kuro have a shared interest over their hobbies, Yuri made Tomoko's new best friend, etc. >The manga gets so filled with random characters that they don't receive the deepness or anything really to make them even memorable Since when? The cast expanded with the Kyoto group and slowly grew as other characters started hanging out with Tomoko after that arc. It was paced so you actually got to knew Yuri, Yoshida, Nemo, Mako, etc without characters being dropped in without fanfare.
It's about a girl that has difficulties interacting with others her age, might because of her socially awkward personality. This anime was so relatable for me, i tried to find friends that are genuine and won't judge me and others but that's hard to find. Edit 2: Watched the video he described the anime basically
@@O-SAKI-O no I get that but it was too messed up. Like they make her so that everyone finds her pathetic and sorry for her. There was no upside to anything besides her own obliviousness. She had almost no friends at all.
@@orppro7100 i don't remember the last time i watched this, but i am not sure if others thought she was pathetic but just someone they haven't spoken to. And in the anime nobody has said i feel sorry for her bcs everyone was minding their own business that's how it's in Japan. I would say bcs of her awful interactions with other students that might be why she had no friends.
@@O-SAKI-O I guess that’s true. Good point. Different culture and stuff. I guess I saw it like that and just thought it was sad. But I definitely don’t want to watch it again.
Considering all the wokeness and mental health awareness, you would think Watamote would be a huge hit but it's not. I guess it's because Isekai makes money and Watamote doesn't.
I just watched it for the first time. I didn't find it as funny as you say though. I was more sad about Tomoko because i could feel her loneliness and sadness as i can relate. I was pretty much the same as her all my school years although not as bad. Let's say i had a friend or two and talked more in school but it was maybe even harder as a boy. However, now i am all alone again and only interact with family. No friends or girlfriend at all. In any case i don't want to get spoiled so i am stopping halfway through the video. I hope for a second season to see her succeed but i could pick up the manga sometime. I hope she doesn't end up like me.
