That was cute at the end... Well, I for one would love more Komodo X content? Anyway, congrats on the KX, I'm looking into adding it to my Sony lineup - stepping up a notch. Love your stuff! (Been w/you since the S1H days...)
Wow you have been a subscriber for a long time, the S1H still one of my fav cameras for video. Sadly the AF was all over the place, when Panasonic bring out the S2H with the new AF system I will be getting one for sure. Some good deals around at the moment on the Komodo X, RED has 15% off the Komodo and Komodo X on the RED website
@@DarrylCarey There's part of me that doesn't believe they actually listened to our pleas and implemented phase detect. For me though, I gave in to the pull of Sony because they were coming up fast and seemed like they actually listened. I would own a Panasonic again if I had the money to cross-invest in glass, but until then, I have to be all in on one brand. I'm only going the Komodo-X route because for one, I'm going to do only PL lenses for my cine setup, so I can keep the sweet Sony glass I have and get PL adapters for cine. For two, I want to use the best image pipeline I can afford, and RED is holding the door open for low-budget creators - I figured I might as well walk through it - it's a natural evolution. Yeah, you kinda spoke to me in your outlook, and I appreciated the things you taught, the care you took/take in product comparisons, and exposure to your professional stance on things.
Having the mappable record buttons are so so nice. You can map the record buttons to edge by the way, the one on the side is how I have mine mapped to edge.
I sold everything and decided to go with V-Raptor s35 + PL focal Reducers, and a Sony Burano even tho I may get another one soon...3 Raptors s35 and 2 Sony Burano cameras, is all I need for many years to come.
Nice setup, did not know the Burano was in the market yet. Going to check out the Burano ina couple of months in Taiwan. I hear very good things about it
@@DarrylCarey no way man I don't have it yet I will when it's available and soon I can afford to get two, it's what I meant 😂 I'm not a vip to have one already, it's just that English is my 3rd language so I probably confused You
I'm very curious about differences between the Komodo X and Panasonic S5 image quality. I'm guessing that Redcode raw is more malleable than the S5's 10bit 422 mov files, but do you notice a considerable difference?
The V-Raptor S35 was for a couple projects I was contracted to shoot in Taiwan and the client requested the RED R3D files and 8K , it was easier for me to buy than it than it was to hire the V-Raptor as nobody has them to rent in NZ. The footage is beautiful from both cameras and matched really well. The V-Raptor is more of a pain to setup and I do not like the small menu window on the side, the komodo X is much easier to setup and I love the top screen. The V-Raptor S35 can do more than the Komodo X ...8K - 120fps etc so you can shoot different types of projects. I'm selling the V-Raptor S35 and upgrading to the V-Raptor VV for a few documentaries I have lined up last this year in Taiwan as the S35 is a little close to the Komodo in look and feel of the image.. Hope this helps 🥴
@@DarrylCarey Very helpful, Thank you very much friend! From what i'm seeing, Komodo-X seems on par with Raptor image wise, way more than Komodo was.. But i needed confirmation from people who actually used those 3 cameras, Greetings ;)

'Once you shoot red raw you can't go back' Hopefully now that Nikon proved reds patent is invalid in court, we will get compressed raw codecs on every next gen camera from every manufacturer. Unless I guess sony wants to protect their cinema line, in which case maybe panasonic or fuji will make a great cine cam with compressed raw.
the USB-c connection will only charge the phone it has nothing to do with the app connectivity with or without cable you are still using the wifi connectivity that's why u notice no difference in lag with or without cable ... hopefully this will be solved soon
Hey Josh, thanks for the info. I just checked this, if you turn off the wifi and connect by USB-C cable the Komodo is only connected by USB-C and the connection will become LINK in the RED APP. Hope this helps
