Ableton has it where you can change to 1/8 note hits for the metronome and still remain in a lower bpm. If there’s anyone here from Ableton side of the world. Who just enjoys the content

I started out djing in the early 80s using that same technique. Taking 1 slow tempo record mixing it with a faster tempo record.

Thanks. I’m going to start working in double time. Never thought about this till I made a beat in Maschine at 180. I didn’t have to adjust my swing as much. Thanks. PS can’t wait to see you on that MPC key37

Great video! I started to use double tempo a few time ago. When I started to use de Espi by Low Hiss that emulates de SP1200, when you use double tempo and change de swing DAMN! that groove is insane.

Thank you for this video! I've heard several people say working in double time gives them "bounce" but you are the first I've heard discuss it any further than that. I get frustrated sometimes with Splice, because it seems like they neglected to label which loops are in double time, so you type in a BPM and half the results are just WRONG. But now at least I know how it probably got like that. Keep on!
@theycallmeheat
@theycallmeheat 29 дней назад
So glad this helped you. Many producers get upset with my drum loops because they are in double time. But we have time stretch, and you can put any loop thats in double time to its original “single time” BPM to work in the time you want to work.. that’s all for my rant! Lol, Thanks for tuning in!!

Growing up in a drumline and playing percussion for most of my life, we always count the eighth notes. That's essentially what double time is on a metronome. When you're doing boom bap with a little extra swing, you would even count the triplets

I always work in double. Had a talk with a homie yesterday about this. Trying to teach him. And then you upload this. Matrix is all im saying. Edit: The thing is though. I cant really explain, how sometimes a double time beat sounds like a regular 90bpm beat (kinda). The reason we started talking about it, was I played a beat for him at around 140ish with sloppy drums and all, but then it should feel like its a 70 bpm. But it doesnt. Get what Im sayin?

Thank you for the video, Heat. Quick question: Do your Yamaha monitors ever have the hissing noise when they are turned on, but with no music coming out of them? Thank you kindly. Blessings!
@theycallmeheat
@theycallmeheat 2 года назад
Sometimes, but mine is not as apparent. I do have a power conditioner to clean up the power signal for my monitors. Check the link in my description under my equipment list for the info on that.

Funny. I also use double time and switch the metronome to hi hats. However I don’t change the settings at 6.55 as I find that the plug-in “halftime” has a small bug that doesn’t play properly (or can’t read) when you mess with the spacing. So I keep it at double time all through 😁😁.

I like how 160 gives me a better bounce than 80.
@NoQualmsTheArtist

There only problem with double time especially in boom bap is that your swing algorithm accentuates the wrong notes. I understand it with Trap because off the machine gun hi hats and the genre doesn't swing, but not any other genre with funk and bounce.
@Whisky4Brekfest
@Whisky4Brekfest 3 года назад
This is true. One work around is to record your drums quantized and then just manually "nudge" your sounds as necessary. It is a bit more work but it's a decent work around.

I think fl studio users use double tempo because they don't know how to use it. You can change time signature for grid.... I don't see the point to use double tempo with all that mess (bars, loops, sync beat plugin etc...). For bouncing i think you can change your metronome time signature i suppose or you can create you own easy
@theycallmeheat
@theycallmeheat Год назад
as you are correct about the grid, it makes no difference with the metronome. it still will play at a slower speed. I use double time to get a certain bounce, so my understanding is way beyond some grid. but thanks for your input. 💪
