Not at all, vs code just a fancy code editor with tons of "extension" Jetbrain is an IDE not code editor Some people think it's the same, but they are different But just use what you like, because it's more efficient than using a new ide or code editor Myself like vscode than ide coz they heavy af
@@arc8218 i said "same features", not that they are the same. I used to use jetbrains products, but now i realized that as long as a code editor has a linter for my language, that is enough for me
JetBrains "Just Works". Honestly it's fantastic for most workflows. You don't need to fiddle around with deprecated tooling, things are integrated and work great. Only thing I hate (minus the cost) is the huge memory footprint.
People who say VSCode can do all the stuff JetBrains IDEs can do are partially correct. The main difference is that JetBrains' features are much more polished and tightly integrated. + The intellisense on the Webstorm is far superior to that of VSCode, I've tried all sorts of extensions for VSCode but it can't match the seamlessness of Webstorm, I can't remember the last time it missed an auto import. But on the downside, it's pretty heavy and you pay a good price to use it, but they offer good free tiers.
With 6GB of ram... Vscode uses like 500 max. Yes I agree tht JetBrains IDE's are better for actuall programming but its too fat and chunky on x86x64. On arm its goated. Thats why I use vscode on windows and jetbrains on anything else
@@1192aa Yeah, it's pretty fat, indexing takes a lot of memory and cpu usage, I've 16gig ram and i5 1145g7, after using webstorm for 2-2.5 hours, it starts to feel kinda slow. But if you have apple silicon or a hefty pc, I'd recommend JetBrains IDE over VSCode anyday.
While I still don't want to switch away from Webstorm, it has very poor performance in WSL2. That and their Dev Containers support is also severely lacking. I've also noticed a pretty steady decline in performance over the last few years, to the point that I'm considering switching to VS Code. That being said, there are various aspects of Jetbrains IDEs that just can't be replicated in VS Code to the same polish: - their Git plugin is by far the best in the business. If they make a standalone Git tool, even if I was using VS Code I'd end up using it. - Refactoring. Being able to move classes/objects/functions/variables or rename them easily is nearly unchallenged in VS Code. I've not found a VSC plugin that can hold a candle to this built-in functionality. - Scratches+Quokka. I know Quokka has a VSC plugin, but it is leagues better integrated in Jetbrains imo (subjective). - Tagged template literals for full inline SQL/GQL/etc support built right in. My god this works so smoothly and I've yet to find as smooth a plugin in VSC But yeah, both have their strengths and weaknesses. Really hope Fleet takes off and finally gets good plugin support
I respect neovim, but it is such a pain in the ass to set up. There is always something that goes wrong that takes HOURS to fix, and then after that, something like auto import, auto close tag, etc, also needs to be installed, which, again, is going to be a pain in the ass
@@chrikke Yes I have this problem. And soon I will have more of these with Arch Linux (btw). But anyway this is how we are different. I like to build these stuff myself, I mean that it was my first time to learn about LSPs when I switched to neovim and I am sure that I will learn more also over time. and the same thing applies to Arch Linux. But I wrote the comment because I didn't see that there is something different with jetbrains IDEs. like everything there exists in vscode, neovim and all of these stuff so I have no idea why someone would pay money for them.
@@littlepharaoh455 Jetbrains software is S-tier. Mostly because they come packed with features that works perfectly. There is no advanced configuration needed. I could go in detail, but you really just have to try it. It is much more powerful than vscode. NVIM also taught me a lot. But it is such a pain in the ass. I really wish i i could get it to work, because i love Telescope, Harpoon, and Undotree.
My problem with jetbrains is that there is no other opponent competing with them except the open source ones which considered general purpose extensible text editors.
Same could be said about VSCode and it's free. Don't fall for this. I have different profiles for different programming languages on vscode and it's all synced.
It doesnt do anything jetbrains can do, half as well. And the vim motions plugin is pretty ass. Students can get their stuff for free, and even then, you only need to pay for a month, unless you want new features in the future. VS Code is free, but also garbage
@@chrikke VS Code is so 'garbage' that JetBrains is working on a clone called Fleet? VS Code is open source and has a large community contributing to its ecosystem. Complaining about VS Code is like a bad dancer blaming their testicles for getting in the way.
@@FNZ-wx2nz if that ain't the dumbest thing i have ever heard... Fleet is not a clone. It has a similar idea, but is not a clone. And me liking intellij does not mean i love Fleet. Half of all vscode features work about 50% of the time. Vscode is pure shit, in my opinion. Nothing you say will convince me otherwise
Vscode isn't garbage, and Fleet Is not a clone, don't compare it, one is an IDE, and the other is a code editor. Both are good if you know how to use it. It is not neccessary to fight about that.
I use PyCharm CE as my main Python IDE and honestly it's really good, even though use the free version, it's still great, but, honestly, it all comes down to your personal opinion, some people like JetBrains, others like VSCode, others (including me) like both, there's no need to fight about it!
For JS/TS web development VS Code and Web Storm offers almost the same experience, but for any other language like PHP or Python the experience with JetBrains IDEs products is far superior
I know this video is sponsored, but since 2017 I am not able to use any other IDE. Using rider for c#, js, typescript. Pycharm free edition for Python. Once you try - you won't be able to use anything else. The only issue, last update made it extremely laggy on apple m chips.
Not true for everybody. I tried PyCharm professional and didn't like it. The only jetbrains IDE I use is android studio and I'm trying to fully migrate it to VSCode because I find it to be a lot better.
I am a 17 year old student at a technical school in Hungary and got the Ultimate plan for free. These IDEs are really good and have been actually improving my productivity a lot.
Also, while not obvious, you can use any jetbrains ide for free if you use the EAP version (early access program). There are some disadvantages, such as not being stabile and plugin incompatibility but it's worth it.
Hey, wich JetBrains Ide should i choose? I really likes coding in vs but i'm thinking of switching, I like that the vs is Simple and it's loading fast. I'm most likley web dev and I tested fleo or whatever its called, I didnt liked it. Please help!
i open ide, i write code, i add a breakpoint, i press debug, i can step through each line of code and see the values of variables at each line. this is why i use jetbrains ides, debugging. they can do everything i need, for any language i can write in
Yep, it VSCode this would be so fcking painful to do, first you need to setup basically everything with extensions etc., then Setup the Debug Scripts etc. and then you can eventually start after doing quite a lot of trial and error
@@tfcbhop6380bro installing extensions are extremely easily and when you're missing something due to a lack of extensions vscode will often remind you, (actualy better that way so you dont have extra features you wont use) you just need to click once there's no way people pay just to skip that
Do u know what the saddest thing? Jetbrains was the Russian company, but now they are blocking their producs in Russia because Mr. Putin.. U know.. Yesterday I couldn't download and install Clion on my pc with linux. So now I use vim...
@@weiSane yeah. If your computer is old, and has very limited ram, don't use it. Might as well complain about Photoshop, and argue Microsoft Paint is actually better
@@carinaschoppe plus the fact that jvm is one of the most used platforms doesn't mean it's good, really we must stray for better software and finally leave archaic concepts :)
