I am brand new to Davinci Resolve. Couple of days experience. I was practicing with different effects and moving videos in. I clicked on something that made my 2nd monitor open. (I was actually just trying to figure out how to have what's called the "source viewer", back, so i could have 2 windows, side by side in the editor, again. It crashed shortly after. I was horrified. I didn't remember saving anything. But. It was all auto-saved! I was able to re-open the project, and I was back up to where I last left the project. Super nice! I've been so happy I made the decision to try to learn Davinci Resolve. I'm still struggling with the node stuff, though.

@@BKLYN48 I haven't used FCPX but in Premiere, autosave is set to save at set intervals. So you can set it to save evry minute if you want (I had it at 10 mins) but every time it saves, the software pauses. Maybe 1/4 a second, maybe 5 seconds on a huge project (and I'm on a 7950x with a 4090 and 128gb DDR5. So its not a slow hardware issue. But you still risk losing time, even when it saves every 10 mins. You re-open (praying the autosave file isn't corrupt) and then have to figure out how far back it's put you, then re-do your edits. DR saves after very action and it's imperceptible. No spinning wheels, now greyed out windows, nothing. Just a costant, live backup.

@@koldstudios The UI in Resolve is pretty rigidly set up in general. There are tabs that can be opened and closed, and you can hide some buttons and there are layouts for dual screen. Even Triple screen if you have Studio so you can put the Clean feed on a separate monitor. And some panels can be made floating so they can be moved to a fourth screen. (you can never have too many screens). It took a while to get used to that rigidity... but the upshot is that no matter which computer you use, no matter where you are... and no matter what tutorial you watch or read... if it's updated... the UI should be the same. So standardisation has its pros as well as the cons. And yes. They do encourage users to get their hardware for full hands on workflows. I guess it's part of the reason it's free and even the payed version is just $300 and they have never charge for an update and they stay away from subscription fees. Their main income is from their hardware.

5:23 absolutely. I use the free version to edit my videos(something I’ve never done before as I don’t make content but I enjoy creating new things). Resolve crashed on my computer 3 times, which was my fault not the programs as I ran out of space and had everything crash or stutter. I was worried about loosing almost an hour of work and went back in to be exactly where I left off. Utterly amazing, as I’ve used other programs and those would have set me back that full hour

I’m not an video editor, or even a public content creator. But I am a creative and I love experiencing what those near the top of their game can produce. This is a video about software. Honestly, that’s a tough subject that usual involves me clicking through to the conclusions and moving on to the next one. But it was magic. It held my attention for its entirety, and that in itself is unusual. But it wasn’t necessarily the content, it was the editing. The pace, the timing of transitions and in particular the colouring. Just needed to call it out

Thanks for sharing, I sure will have a look on your learning program.

Your video right here might just be the final reason for me to switch to Resolve after 17 years with Premiere Pro. It feels hard but I can't justify using a product that hasn't solved its biggest issues in forever. I'm a professional PP user and to this day I never feel confident to start a project on it ever, it's always like walking on a minefield of issues. I might miss a few plugins, but your video made me very confident that I will find an alternative method for everything I need, inside Resolve and without any worry of crashing or slowdowns. 👏🏼

100% AGREE. Adobe Premiere has been one of the powerhouses of the video editing industry for years, and it's wildly unjustified. They have not innovated, they have not improved, they've just shifted their business model from "buy this software" to "kind of buy this software, you don't own it but you pay us forever to rent it". In addition to that, PC users are an inconvenience to them, they have had stability issues for over 20 years, and their response is "just use Mac". It's absolutely unjustified for Premiere to have the dominance in the industry that it does, and the price tag that it has, while there are so many other companies offering more for less. Adobe is screwed once people start opening their eyes. I hope so many people see this video and it sinks in.

I just finished my first profession commission for a video. I have a photography background and coloring creatively has been my bread and butter. I was shocked that the same people that created Lightroom have such a stunted, stupid grading feature as lumetri. Looking into plugin options, i found all these arguments for davinci. It's intimidating having just learned editing software to learn it all over again. But this video melted my fears and has greatly inspired me. Thank you.

Until now I always used iMovie for my small and short clips. But with my last project which was my most biggest project ever (24min), I hit the limitations of iMovie pretty much from the start. Man, I am stunned every time by your content, knowledge and also really inspired. And to put the editing on the side, I always notice the insane graphics quality and shots... @@blackpoolpastpresentfuture4973 There is no pro in movie industry using Premiere actually, most adobe stuff are for mostly RU-vidrs and prosumers at best. All the big agencies who edit movies and tv shows are still using media composer and for grading resolve has been used in movies since the 90s. There are way more features in Resolve that smokes premiere in every possible way, premiere doesn't even come anywhere close when it comes to actual pro features. The pro in premiere pro ends with youtube and freelancers, no actual pro in movies is using any of the adobe garbage.
