Is have started a the same CS degree at the UoL. I am approaching 34 years old and have two young kids and a full time job. I decided to aim to finish the degree in 4 years instead of 3. As you say, you have to do what works for you and make sure you balance everything.
Really interesting that you decided to get a second bachelor's vice a masters, I really can relate to your reasoning for doing choosing the bachelors and appreciate it! 🙌🏼 Great video as always!!
Thank you for watching, Luke! Yeah I’m glad I was not so crazy to come to that reasoning 🙈. Really happy to hear you had the same experience at some point!
@@Thuvu5 It really does makes sense.... If you had a technical background then a masters in CS would be easy to pursue but if you come from a nontechnical background it would be nearly impossible to pursue a masters in CS. So, it does make sense.
Greeting from Belgium ~ Thank you Thu Vu for sharing your experiences. I quitted my job in 2020 and started to study for a master degree in statistics and ds. i have been through a lot of self doubts and confusion. But it’s always those great RU-vid videos from this data science community lifted my spirits. Thanks for making these awesome contents. Love from 🇧🇪 ~
Hey Luna! 👋 Woah it’s so amazing to hear your story! It was very brave what you did, and I believe it will all be worth it! Thanks for tuning in and all the best for your study and all things in life!
Had a bachelor’s degree of business informatics, but a few years ago felt I was missing something and started a Master’s degree in Data Science. You really can’t stop the urge to learn and go further! Nice to see more people starting to study further, good luck with your study!
Hi there 👋 Yeah, I can totally relate to that feeling - that urge to learn and expand your knowledge, regardless of the age or having or not having a job. I found it rewarding on its own to get an education. Thank you and good luck with your (current/future) study too 🙌🏽
Thanks for sharing your journey. I am in a similar circumstance and am looking to get back to school as well, hearing your experience encouraged me to pursue my goal more diligently
Super inspiring! I do admire your brave decision and how clever you manage your time. Wish you all the best with your work and studying. Love from Vietnam.
Thank you so much, Minh! I try to go out of my comfort zone every now and then to do all this stuff. Happy to hear it was somewhat inspiring haha. Wish you all the best too! 🤗🙌🏽
Loved the video. My story is so much similar to yours, almost felt like looking into the mirror..from the then-stable relationship to the comfort bubble of a stable and well paid job...everything..and infact, I felt I'm not there yet..hadn't reached my true potential yet...hence, joined a Data Science program but then couldn't balance time...but this video of yours really helped...helped me understand the balancing act. So, Thank You, please keep making more videos! :)
You don't even know me but you're such a role model to me! Thank you for all these videos. I'm glad I get all of these videos for free haha I learned a lot of things no one ever taught me at school.
Hello , i am a marine engineer settled into my job but i am very much a computer science enthusiast and I really wish to learn and switch my career as well , today i saw your channel for the very first time. I have turned 27 this month. Have been working with government since 5 years but now i dont like the idea to settle and spend my time on netflix. Im planning to begin this journey myself and i feel your story has come as a blessing disguised
Thank you so much 🥰. I feel a bit sad it’s the last year in my study but also excited about the extra time I can spend on creating more content here when I’m done with it. Thank you for supporting this small channel! Hope you had a good weekend 🤗
@@Thuvu5 I am looking forward to every video that you will be posting. They are very insightful for me since I am starting my career as a data analyst. Thank you for creating such good quality and insightful videos. Hope you had a great weekend as well.
@@lengleng4043 Aww that's really kind of you! How exciting that you're starting your data analyst career! Wishing you a lot of fun and success in your job 😄, curious to hear more how it goes. I'm still learning to make better quality videos and it's late night up sometimes but knowing it's helpful to someone really makes it feel like it's totally worth it . Oh and thank you for even checking out my older videos with horrible audio and editing 😂
I was working full time and studying part-time. It felt like holding onto 2 jobs and several times I was really on the brink of deciding one or the other. My personal take it is to study full time to clear this quick, and work part time just to keep the finances.
Hi Thu Vu, this is very inspiring. Life is an unexpected journey and is full of constraints. I want to do a lot thing, say getting into the data science field, but I am tied to even more roles and responsibilities and time is only that much. So, I very agree that we should do things that complimentary with each other, they make it sounds like symphony. Wish everyone enjoy their journey.
Thank you so much Jack! It's indeed not always easy to start something new given all these constraints, but it also teaches us many useful skills to go about life. Good luck with everything you do! 🍀
I was 29 when I got accepted in UMich's MADS programme - wife was a couple months pregnant back then. It was intense for the first few months with fulltime work (senior software engineer for a media company here in NZ) with lots of overtime + course deadline, hubby responsibilities (driving my then pregnant wife to work), and paying off the mortgage. When the little one was born, I had to take a break, winter semester, to spend time with the little one, but boy did I miss coursework. I can totally relate - I've been a nerd since I was a kid and will always have a soft spot for data science ever since I was introduced to a simple classification algorithm back in 2012.
Thanks for sharing your fulltime work-study experience! It was amazing how you managed your time among so many other important responsibilities 🤯. I find that having a family and taking care of a family is a whole different level of pressure and self management 😅. Sending my best wishes to you and your family!! 😊
did the bakground from CS and the coding principles and the way you learned python, sql, and a bunch of other languages all transfer and help in the masters data data science program or you had to learn them again in a different way?
Hello from Russia! I also decided to change jobs. Now I work in railway transport and analyze unscheduled repairs of locomotives, and not so long ago I learned about data analysis, and in my work this is what I need. At the moment I am learning and immediately apply the methods that I learned about.
Hey! 👋 nice to meet you. Glad to hear you are also doing data analysis in your job, I can imagine that it’s very exciting to use data to solve problems in the transport field!
I think a 2nd degree after gaining some experience is easier in some ways because theres also the maturity aspect, I know I am much more willing to focus on coursework and studying now, than when I was just out of high school - even though I was studying something I was really interested in.
I am in a junior college and want to get a mechanical engineering degree and also applying for the university of London for computer science thank you for your videos they helped I hope for everyone's success.
It is nice to see another lifetime learner. I just made my application BS CS degree. This will be my 4th degree and I really liked the tips and tricks you shared for the working and studying which I can relate a lot. Thanks for the nice content.
I am a teacher by profession but after a year of practicing my profession the COVID-19 struck the world including my country, so I decided to pursue my master's degree in mathematics. That time in 2020, while waiting for my application in my Graduate study, I was amazed by Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning thats is why I learned Python Programing and Data Structures in Coursera. Two years later I am almost done with my masters degree . I am planning to pursue courses in either Data Science or Cybersecurity soon. And by the way, your channel is really inspiring and your drive is really one of a kind.. I am your new subscriber :) ...Amazing, Attractive and Driven woman :)
Hi Sher, thank you so much for sharing your story, and for such kind words! 😄 Your story is really inspiring, and it's really amazing that you keep learning and expanding your horizon. A Master's degree in Mathematics is already a really great achievement! (I always feel like I was not brave/smart enough to do a Math degree haha). Good luck with finishing your degree! 💪 Both Data Science and Cybersecurity (and the combination of them) are really cool. I got to know more about Cybersecurity through my CS degree and it's quite eye-opening. There's so much going on in that field and it's linked to cryptography and other exciting things. Really happy for you! 🙌🏽
You have an amazing journey. Congrats for your channel. Sharing my story. My name is Delbers and I'm from Brazil I already decided to take a second degree. I am a Control and Automation Engineer almost finishing a second degree in Computer Engineering. I also have started a course in Business Administration in Canada. Maybe I'll take a Master after all of that, by let's see the future steps. All the best.
Hi Delber, thank you so much for your comment! Greetings from the Netherlands! 🙌🏽 Wow, it's really interesting that you took a second degree in Computer Engineering and then a BA. I'm amazed that you still keep on studying after that. That's really inspiring! I'm also considering taking a Masters in CS; the main limiting factor for me is usually time. So will have to see when I can get around doing that. Thanks for sharing your inspiring story and all the best for you as well! 😄
Love your videos Thu. you are very creative and talented among many other things such as your lovely, passionate personality. But I really enjoy each and every one of your videos. You clearly put a lot of effort into making great content . I am hooked and I am not a data analyst/scientist. Also, you are a great story teller and you content is always full of valuable ideas, lessons, truth, emotions and importantly for me interest! I am learning a lot from you but funnily about how you create your videos because they are so well done; fun, creative and engaging. Tôi thực sự ngưỡng mộ bạn rất nhiều. Cảm ơn bạn về những câu chuyện đời thực tế của bạn.
Aw I can’t thank you enough for your kind words!! ❤️ Making content is really hard but this makes me really feel like it’s 200% worth it!! 😁 so glad my videos inspired you. Cám ơn những lời chia sẻ của bạn!
I also gave up my job as a constuction engineer and went back to college at 27 jo to get a second bachelor in a foreign country. Time is passing so staring now is better than never.
Can you do a video on how you ended up getting a job in Amsterdam as a non dutch person without knowing dutch language or contacts over there. From what I have heard, its tough to move to Europe as non European, find employment successfully , get a work permit and stay there for the long term even if trying to work after studying there.
Hi Austin, thank you for commenting! I did a Master's study in Amsterdam and got to stay there for one year to look for jobs (search-year visa). I think I got lucky to get an internship and job within that year. It's tough but I know quite some friends/ colleagues who got hired from abroad, most of them were already working and had some relevant expertise. So it's definitely possible. I talked briefly about my journey in an older video here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C9dWbD1Rrvc.html. Hope it helps!
Hello! Thank you very much for sharing your journey, it's very inspiring :) I am currently à Software Engineer, working full time for a company, and I started a Master Degree in Artificial Intelligence 3 weeks ago. So, your video really helped me staying on track, as I was starting to feel overwhelmed. I do struggle with my organisation tho, to be honest ^^'. I really admire the fact that you are able to keep going, and even doing videos and articles! I would love to learn more about your organisation, if possible, and if you are willing to share it of course :) Thanks a lot, and good luck for the rest of your journey :)
Hii Vu, awesome video as always..... I am doing bachelor of computer applications (2nd year) and I also have started my career in data analytics field... I am also doing IBM course...and also working as an Intern... Thanks for making such content for all of us Love from India 💗
I’m really happy to hear you’re studying and already started with the internship and taking extra courses 💪. That sounds really awesome, you have a great career ahead I believe! And thank you for watching 😀
Great and very informative/inspiring video. I just turned 35 with 0 college degree and I’ve been weighing the option of CS degree or a coding bootcamp to become a SWE. I am still on the fence on which route to go
That is a inspiring story! 😍. Thanks for this and wish you all the best. Thu vu, Could u say how can enter to field a beginner who self learning about data analytics ? and which type portfolio that help for get internship?
Hi Kasun. Thank you so much for your kind comment!! Portfolio projects is an important part of your profile if you’re self-taught. I also have a video on “How to build a awesome data porfolio” on my channel. Hope it helps!
@@Thuvu5 Thank you very much for your time Thu Vu. I will check it. Please continue this channel because this much valuable for self-learning DA students.
Hi! How were the lessons structured at the university? Were they like other coursera courses where you have access to all of the lectures of a semester immediately and can work your way through them in your own time? or are lectures and projects released weekly or on a schedule?
@@Thuvu5 Thank you so much for replying. Did you work part time during the degree? Did you find you were able to finish your courses well in advance of deadlines or did you have to have crunch periods? thank you :)
@@freddieG2667 I worked full-time the first year and then found it was a quite bad idea haha. Since the 2nd year I've been working 90%, having one extra part of the day to relax and study really helped. But I think towards the end of the study that was not quite enough. For some semesters I felt quite in control of the deadlines, but many times I have crunch periods. It really depends on the semester and how demanding the exams/ assignments are, and how busy it turned out at my work 😅
Inspiring! you say cut 10 % in salary working part time but how many hours work was that? I am planning into doing the same because I dont wanna get a burn out, Thanks in advance for explaining :))
Hey, thanks for commenting! I was moving from full time 40 hours to 36 hours. But towards the end of the degree I had to do 32 hours because modules were a bit more demanding 😅
Thank you for another great video! :D Could you share some thoughts on how satisfied you were with the online BSc at UoL? I'm working as DA (have a FinMath degree) atm and considering to take a similar path!
Hi Jacqueline, thanks for commenting. I learned a lot from the program, especially modules about the basics of CS (data structures/ algorithms/ how computers work and software development). However, some modules could be better in my opinion. The online program also means you get fewer opportunities to interact with lecturers and other students. I'm thinking of making a dedicated video on this topic in a near future, hopefully that will be more helpful 🤓
Thanks for the great video! I’m just kinda confused, I’m learning cybersecurity actually in 4th week before getting admitted in bsc comp sc London and I’m also almost completing the blockchain and cryptocurrency foundation and I just have basic knowledge of coding but I have the fullstack course I’m planning to read soon. The problem now is that I don’t have money to pay for bsc comp sc course so I’m wondering if I should decline it. All of those courses are interesting! (Even hacking 😂) I'm even admitted into a university in my country(Nigeria) for data science but the education system here is not good tho. It just feels like a lot to handle 😅
Thanks for sharing your journey, Thu Vu! I relate a lot and I've been feeling that need to have some kind of challenge to work on - not watching Netflix all day (but certainly part of it hehe) ;) I've recently been admitted to a PhD in Stats program and I am so excited! You're channel has been inspiring and makes me want to share my similar experiences, thanks! Best Wishes!
Wow congrats on your PhD admission, Thomas! 🎉A PhD in Stats sounds amazing!! Thank you so much for sharing your experience, now I get really inspired 😄. Best wishes to you too!
I have completed my bachelor's in computer science and have a decent job now but I wanted to do Master's in computer science with specialization in data science, will choosing a online master will be a good decision? and can you suggest few good master courses for the same?
@@Thuvu5 just one more question. how is the payment done? is it paid per month? per year or per course (eg math for computer science ) ? or how is it done?
@@mvd_01 Indeed, I figured IG is probably a more convenient way to share small random things than on the YT Community. I'll look into that in the coming time, thanks a lot for the suggestion! I'm really glad my videos are motivating for you to switch to data analytics 👋
@@Thuvu5 thanks for your reply. I missed out on my school for being disabled. But this degree looks like a great opportunuty for me. If it is accredited of course.
