You heard that right. The X-T30 is my choice for a daily carry. I never totally understoond the hype around the x100v so maybe I'm missing out? But when it comes to the XT30 vs X100v I'm always going with the X-T30. What's your choice?

Two years ago I bought x100v for a few reasons already having MFT: size, hopefully better low light capabilities for indoors, and I expected Panasonic MFT cameras are dead except of huge video orientated GH series. So for me it was camera to complement G80 which is fun to use.

Facts! I walked into camera shop 6 months ago to buy a x100v, but when i looked at the xt30ii i saw it had almost exact same specs, more camera, and was fraction of the price. I went with xt30ii instead and been loving it. Realized i only wanted the x100v because everyone else wanted it 😂 the 27 pancake should be arriving any day now.

Thanks for the video and the insight. My only thought about the x100 having just one lens is that is part of the point of that camera. The fact that you don't have options in focal lengths is part of the x100's appeal.

Spec’s they aren’t remotely close. XT30 lacks……… No leaf shutter, huge for flash photography on sunny days No weather resistants. Big deal in Florida during rainy season. Built in nd filter. Better implementation of the dials on the 100v. The equivalent 23mm lens is miles softer than the 100v.

I've only read the title and watched the first minute of the video, but it's so pointless to compare an interchangeable lens camera to a fixed lens camera. If you had compared the X100V to an X-T30 with a 27mm f/2.8 lens, say, bolted to the front, *then* it becomes a meaningful and interesting comparison.
@HandlebecauseIMust
@HandlebecauseIMust Месяц назад
It's a great comparison when the specs are nearly identical and the only difference is the interchangeable lens. With the pancake lens you have an x100v for much less and the option to change lenses if you want or keep the pancake "bolted on."

For the current prices, I get it, but I like the rangefinder style, I love having an optical viewfinder. And to have a leafshutter combined with an internal flash is one of the great advantages of the X100V. Did I mention the inbuilt ND-filter and water resistance? And who wants a PASM dial on a Fuji?😎

Going pre-xt30, I picked up an xt-20 when it was brand new. Took that thing everywhere, and shot every video on my channel with it (check our the Vietnam video). The xt20 and xt30 are hands down more versatile cameras than the x-100 V. You're the only person I've come across that prefers the centred viewfinder over the range finder style. I feel like I have to use my left eye, range finders don't account for that.

I agree 100%. I bought the XT-30 when it first came out (after 20yrs and a series of heavy and bulky Nikons) . The 27mm is on most of the time. For a travel lens I use the 16-80mm. The issue with all these comparison videos is, that I have yet to see the person doing these while actually having owned both to make an objective comparison. Both camera's images DO DIFFER BY A LOT! Why? Because first - the lens on the X100V is is unique in optical design, because the rear element of the lens is closer to the sensor than on any interchangable lens Fuji, therefor generates a war "3 dimensional look" to the subjects. Second - while they are internally the same on paper, they are NOT the same in reality! Fuji claims the ProNeg film sim uses too much computing power to be featured in the X-Trans 4 sensor generation, but the X100v DOES have it and it somehow works and it looks just AMAZING! Not even later XT-30ii has the ProNeg film sim. Third - the XT-30 and XT-30ii produce a much more punchy and contrasty image with the exact same settings and film recipes, when everything on the X100V is more "subdued" but in the most pleasant ways. But this proves that internal processing just has to be different. Both are great cameras, but I feel like all these videos are a compensational measure because you couldn't get your hands on an actual X100V.

I would say the XT30 is more versatile for sure, but for everyday and travel, I'm using the X100V hands down. The X100V is just simpler so you don't have to worry about bringing different lenses for different shots, you get a 35mm equivalent and that's it. I mean, I do have the TCL as well, but I don't bring that for everything. The X100V has everything else that you mentioned as well, the same sensor as the XPro 3, built in flash, the same video specs, and even a built-in ND filter that you can use for both photo and video. I use the ND filter every day I take the X100V with me. And I personally like the rangefinder style, and even love the fact that I can use the EVF or change it to an optical viewfinder. But again, if price was an issue, especially since the resale of the X100V has skyrocketed, the xT30 is a no brainer. I would even argue that the XE4 might even be the better buy.

There are only three photographic reasons to want an X100 series camera over an X-T10/20/30 or X-E3/4:- 1. You want or need to use the OVF 2. You want or need to use flash with high shutter speeds 3. You only want to ever shoot the 35mm FOV in a compact form and are not bothered about not being able to change your lens If you are not going to use these features, for taking pictures the X-T10 etc and X-E3/4 are way more sensible purchases. If of course you just want to look cool and follow the latest fad and don't mind paying a premium go ahead and buy an X100 camera. Personally I own a X100T (I prefer the output from the older sensor) which I use on occasions for reasons 1 and 2 above, and just for a change now and again. Overwhelmingly though my X-T1 and X-T0 see far more use. The X-T1 with all manner of different lenses and the X-T10 usually with the 27mm f2.8. Booray Perry put it very well using a Jeep (Wrangler, I think the model was) as an analogy. Why buy a 4X4 if you never take it off road?

Yeah I have an XT1 but recently bought a mint X100V second hand from a camera store now they are available. I think I’m going to return it tomorrow. I loved the X100S and T when I had them but I think my tastes have changed. As you say the X trans II has a nicer rendering. The V has a clinical look to the images - this was somewhat the case with the earlier X100 cameras but not so much as with the V. I do like the sharpness though. I may stick with my trusty XT1 and 35mm f/1.4 - a combination that is just… chef’s kiss! I also never fully warmed to the 23mm focal length. Nice for people shots if you get close enough, I liked it for night photography, but for a lot of other stuff I walked away frustrated.

XT-30 I and II are great cameras but I would never, never take them as backup or main camera for a wedding or anything else paid. The reason is single card slot. I had twice in my career card failure (once it was SanDisk Extreme PRO and the second was Lexar - I don't remember series here). I was on the safe side, as one it was in Nikon D810, and second time was in Sony A73. In both I had set saving RAWs to both cards. Double card slot is a must for me for a job. I think the XT30 body is superior to the X100S for hybrid photography. As you state, the XT30 is a mini XT3. There are so many video feature to choose from. Some people dig the fixed lens. Many will want the option to change lenses. It all comes down to what you want. I choose not to upgrade bodies to the XT30ii. The improvements are incremental. If buying new I don’t think I’d pay extra for that body. It all comes down to your needs and how much you are willing to spend. For me, the XT30 is the right choice. Mask On Nurse Marty

Hello tehere...thanks for the video....one question...the X100T is a bit slow to be ready, I mean, once you turn it on, lift it up and aim, sometimes it;s not ready to shoot like my Nikon DSLR's, is the XT30 better at that, is it fast? I mean, once you turn it on, is it instantly ready to shoot like a DSLR ? Please, let me know, thanks in advance.

The x-t20 is another option if you're looking for something even cheaper than the 30 if you can find it on the used market at a good price

Hello my friend wanted to get your thoughts or recommendation. I currently have the Panasonic FZ300, which I am looking to upgrade. I am looking for something under $1,000 (hopefully). I would be willing to give up half or even go down to 200mm zoom if needed and takes great video and pictures. I was looking at the FZ2500 which has a bigger sensor but was wondering what your thoughts were and if you had 3 cameras you could recommend. Basically a great all around point and shoot, cannot be removable lens. Thank yo ahead of time my friend.

What’s the difference between the stock lens versus the XF 27? Why do you prefer the 27?

I bought an XT 30 II a while ago, and it took about two months to arrive. I got so desperate that I went to KEH and bought the X-E3 in excellent condition. I have to say I was surprised by its size but loved it. That was my first digital camera. I learned photography in the '70s; yes, I am an old fart (63). All my life, I have used film cameras, Mamiya, Canon, and my most loved treasure, a pair of Yashica 124s. My XT 30 II finally arrived, and a side-by-side comparison, they are almost the same size. Wow. I have to say that I am still learning how to use them. I am a manual kind of guy; old habits are hard to break, and this old dog cannot learn new tricks 😂😂😂 Stay safe 🙏

I have an original silver 27mm f2.8 as a "body cap" for my (graphite) X-T30. I usually carry it in a padded fanny pack with the 18mm f2 and the XC 15-45. Those are 3 of Fujifilm's 4 smallest lenses, the other one being the XC 35mm f2.

I’m late but curious. I don’t want a full system and more GAS, had that with Nikon years ago. Now would consider getting back to more serious than just iPhone photography. What made me interested in x100v was useable images straight out of camera (good filters), wifi connectivity, built in nd filter, decent lens, small form factor. Want a fast lens but not one that’s twice the size of the camera. So a good fast pancake but for a budget as well. So how does the t30 compare on that front?

I actually just bought the X-T30 II about a month ago, and absolutely love it. It already has the same sensor as the X100V or the XE4 or even the XS10, but preferred this one because of the size, the integrated flash and I can change lenses

I have an XT30II, and I do love it, and still learning, but it was a gift. I wouldn't have bought it had I held it first because of the q button placement. a hotshoe thumb grip corrects that, but I do think that design is why this camera isn't as popular.
@WilliamCrespo
@WilliamCrespo Год назад
@@jimpeiffer8558 I'm not sure but I think there is a setting to delay the q button meu or it can also be disabled, I got used to holding the camera not to accidentally press it.

This is a great camera. I purchased one during the pandemic 4 years ago on the advice of a friend. Because of its size, it’s a great EDC. Sorry Fuji seems to have stopped the X-T30 at ii version and seems to prefer the X-S10/20 line with IBIS. I will hang onto the one I have.😊

A ton of the hype for the X100V comes from TikTok influencers...the majority of whom have probably forgotten about it LOL. Both cameras are wonderful, but I've had the X100S before and wanted that experience again. It just has a dash of extra magic. Can't go wrong with either one, as long as you go in knowing the advantages and limitations of both.

It blows my mind the hype over a simple fixed lens camera. Sure, the X100V is well built, looks pretty and takes good pictures but paying over list price for a single lens (a good lens, but still just one lens) is nuts.

I don't have an XT 30 I have the XT 20 which I purchased used at KEH. I also have the x100F which I've never used since I bought the XT 20. I took the XT 20 with the 18-55 to Portugal, really struggled between that set up and my XT3 with the 16-55 but I'm glad I settled on the smaller camera and lens. I recently purchased the XT5 so I shoot a lot with it but that XT20 usually isn't far away.

Having had an X100v, which I didn't overly enjoy using, I sold it and use an XE4 (which is even smaller than the XT30) with the 27mm pancake lens. I love the position of the EVF on rangefinder style cameras . Unfortunately the XE4 is now discontinued, I got mine just in time.

XE4 has entered the chat. If you can find one. Granted you trade smaller size for no grip, if you add the grip it adds height bringing it closer to the 30's height with the evf. I've owned the X100 a few times and each time I sway back to an XE w/18mm. A lot of this comes down to a SLR/rangefinder preference. I really wish they'd make a new version of the 18mm though, hopefully slightly smaller but definitely better AF. It's odd to me they've made a V2 of the 28mm but left the older 18mm alone for all these years.

The ability to have interchangeable lenses is a big bonus for flexibility to get closer to your subjects on vacation especially in mountainous areas. However the prime lens in the X100V is much better than the Fuji prime lenses you mentioned. When you buy a range finder type camera the glass is everything. One of the main reasons Leica photos look so good. The T3, T30ll all are great values especially these days when you see X100V prices hovering above $1700.

@stefan33uk
@stefan33uk 6 месяцев назад
The almost silent shutter is so off putting. It never used to bother me but now it does since I’ve got used to the louder shutter on my XT1. I also felt the shutter itself was too sensitive. Sometimes I’d half press and it would register a full press. BUT I did find i could handhold with slower shutter speeds because of the leaf shutter. Other dislikes were the difficult to turn aperture ring, the joystick button (pushing in to make a selection sometimes didn’t work) and the lack of grip! The optical viewfinder is nice but sometimes gave inaccurate results due to the parallax error. Oh and I’m not a huge fan of the focal length. Otherwise a great camera lol
