@@PetsinaPawd totally! I always tell families there is no good beginner pet. You get an animal that you as the adult also like so if your kid can't take care of it you enjoy it too!
This is so important! I've always wanted a dog but my parents didn't. I got to have many other pets growing up but no dog. I'm 29 and I still can't get one because the apartment isn't well set up for a dog's needs but my boyfriend and I have plans to get a dog as soon as we have a house and in the mean time I am researching!
