🇦🇺🤦‍♂️ as a Porsche certification accident repairer... you can see the simple difference between the quality of a 991 and 992... just take a door trim off of both... closely inspect both, front and back... tap and touch the plastics, check the handle, construction of all.... that will give you outcome of most the car, except the weight reduction of structural design, metals and more power... for me as an everyday and Porsche expert... the 991 will be the last Porsche of the highest quality, no corners cut for factory profit... such is last good BMW was 2008 and Mercedes 2018 for customer value

Agree. I drive a 997.2 C2S and find it’s ideal for the UK roads we now drive on (don’t do track days). More than enough performance plus it’s relatively small size and manoeuvrability makes it easy to place / park / avoid potholes etc. Nothing against the 992 but it is now a big, wide car. More than happy to continue to enjoy my 997

You are spot on!!! I got my 981 Cayman S in 2018, and I was even debating back then about whether the 981 was ~$15k better than a 987. For me, it kind of was. I like the styling and the interior a LOT more than a 987 (still a great car!). I can't personally justify even a new 982, never mind a 992, mostly because of the immediate depreciation. I have no intention of selling my Cayman anytime soon (friggin' bury me in the thing), and I've "benefitted" from the boom in the used car market from the pandemic, in that I could probably sell it for more than I paid for it, even with putting 38k miles on it. The 992s are all gorgeous, but I'm trying to figure out a retirement strategy, and I just can't justify 60 to 70k or more that I'd need to step up. That'll never get past the ways and means committee chairman (wife). ;-)

You “nailed” the dilemma - do I sell/trade my ‘90 Porsche 964 and upgrade to a recent 911 model (with CarPlay) or leave well enough alone? I’ve driven Porsche 911’s since my first ‘69 - 911T (5 - 911’s in all). I resent the fact that I entered the Porsche family of owners for about $5,000, and now would need to spend well over $100,000. The maximum speed I can legally drive in my home state of Montana is 80mph. All of five Porsche 911 models I’ve owned turned heads. “There is no other” reasonable consideration - if it works, why replace it, if it’s not broke, don’t fix it.

It has only 8,000 miles but I bought it for 28% under the original window sticker that was kept. Now 8 years later, the car is still in mind condition and I just do not see the point to sell it for buying something new. As the car get's older, the driving pleasure and condition stays the same (I only use it for weekend) and with increased age the car becomes a tiny bit more of a modern classic without loss of joy, performance or pleasure.

Umm…I’ve got the 992. Really, other than the wide body and styling I would say the 991.2 is a much better choice right now. The electronics are a bit wonky, buttons feel cheap, too much plastic, and values slightly elevated. The price will drop for sure, they always do, but the cheap bits will stay the same. You can pick up a 991.2 several models up for the same price. I’m happy though but I was just filling a want, not a value proposition.

I’ve been a Porsche lover since November 1975 when I bought my first Porsche a 1976 2,7 at the Earls Court motor show from a super gentleman called John Hodge working at the time at AFN Porsche. That started my love affair with the German brand and in fact my wife tells me that she thinks that I suffer from Porscheitis!!!! What’s more I am Italian so, after this reply I will be waiting for my excommunication papers 😂. I currently own 4 Porsches. Two of them are in surgery because I restore them myself, together with my son, engine, gearbox, bodywork, suspensions, electrics, the lot! And sourcing all the little known parts that you thought never existed is half the fun. The cars I’m restoring are a 1976 Carrera 3,0 and a 1980 3,0 SC. I also own a 2002 996 turbo and a 2017 Cayenne that the wife drives. Buying new Porsches requires a lot of money and for those who have it, great! They are fantastic cars! Me? Give me an air cooled classic any day and in 10 years time their value will be three times as much as a new one so I completely understand what you are saying. But hey, the manufacturers have to keep on producing so as long as there are people around with a lot of money, they will keep on selling their new cars. Keep your 997. Its one of the best Porsches ever made. I’ll soon be starting a 911 R replica using an old 912 chassis, short wheel base and all. Something new to feed my Porscheitis. By the way my 996 turbo is exactly the same colour as your 997, speed yellow. Great video thank u.

@Lee-zk8vu Год назад
Simple answer is, I agree. I've got a 987.2 BoxsterSpyder and a modded '84 carrera, both of which make me grin from ear to ear. No point for me to upgrade when I am beyond happy. That said, there are plenty of people out there who are happy to pay the ever escalating price for a new Porsche, particularly the 911. Here in the US, Porsche keeps bumping the base price by 10% at a go and are still selling all they make. So, the market is lapping it up. I'll sit tight and just enjoy myself and know that my cars are holding their value (or increasing) under the umbrella of new car increases.
@burkhardrandel2027

The 997 was manufactured between 2004 and 2012. Therefore a car from that series is at least 11 years old. If you look for a new Porsche then you normally don´t do this because you want more fun but because your "old" car has to be replaced after some time. If you just compare "fun" of course you´re right not to buy a new one. If you think about maintenance and the risk of bigger invoices for an older car, you have to replace it, very easy!

If you’re happy with what you have, why buy ANYTHING else ? But if you don’t have a 911, don’t want to buy someone else’s 911, then…..ah…..hell yes buy a 992 911. Want a Cayman, buy a Cayman. Want a Boxster, buy a Boxster. But don’t put out a video that suggests “I’d never buy a 992,” implying there is something wrong with a 992. Be just a bit honest about it…….ie, “I wouldn’t buy a 992 BECAUSE my money is tied up in a 991.” And you’re absolutely correct when you suggest the 992 is a phenomenal car, because it is…….I just pulled mine into the garage for the night….!

When I bought my Cayman 981 S I thought I would probably yearn for a 911 within a couple of years. 4 years later and still happy with the 981. Mainly for the reason that it’s not my daily and it’s paid for. So, if I don’t use it for a few weeks, it doesn’t matter. Helps it holds its money too. I also find the 992 too big. If I changed it to a 911 it would be a 991.1 but I have no wish to change. The 981 gives me 90% or more of the fun and isn’t costing me much. A Spyder would be great if finances ever allows it comfortably. But I definitely couldn’t justify the extra money on a 992. Great video 👍

I prefer the design of the 991 the most and the power, but the 997 was a better driver's car. I think both are better than the 992 subjectively... but only by a small margin. Objectively the 992 is phenomenal...when prices come down... maybe. For me, I still yearn for a 991 turbo, targa, or gt3. It’s because the base versions of caymans and 911 share about 90-95% of the experience as the higher level cars for a street driven car. I listen to a 200k gt4 RS on RU-vid and it only reminds me of my 981 base with a modded exhaust similar to carnewal GT. Is it the same, no but it’s close enough not to spend more than 4 times as much for 10% more experience on a road. Track is a completely different argument.

You are 100% correct on your decision - Unless your so loaded and the monthly’s don’t matter.

.....992 with turbo....👎 992 is NOT a keeper....had a red 80 911 Targa & now 2006 Cayman S. Am a true old enthusiast, addicted.... 992?...dont think so. 💸🤣🥳

There’s just something about old Porsches isn’t there. I do like the 992’s, but I’m just not that bothered about going for one, they don’t excite me enough (unless it was a gt3 touring which is way outa my league) Thanks for watching 👍👍

Agree. I think (but not 100% sure) that covid has kept the prices high, I would have expected them to have dropped more by now but nope 🫣 thanks for watching 👍

I couldn’t agree more, Al. Especially in Australia, where a new base 992 is $315,000! I’ve only driven the S ($350k), and there’s no way it’s $270,000 better than my 981 Boxster. I also drove a new AM Vantage recently, and it left me feeling completely underwhelmed. The 981 twins are just brilliant. And incredible value for money.

I hear you bro! The 987 & 981 are just tremendous value for money. 🙌

There will be kits out there to do that. A specialist can do it for you but I guess there will probably be some guides on RU-vid?
