Why Indian Scout Rogue Is Not The Victory Octane | Indian Scout Rogue Review

💭 I'm gonna say it. It looks like a Victory Octane and that's completely okay. The 2022 Indian Scout Rogue brought back memories of having my own Indian Scout Bobber, but also paying heavy homage to the 2017 Victory Octane. It's a joy to ride so check out my experience!

Long live the octane! When I got octane, I started stock piling parts... trying to be my own parts resource. I love that bike. Glad to see it get a 2nd and a half life with rogue. (Ima count in the ftr as I think thats what the pikes peak fan boys thought octane was originally gonna be)

All the comparisons say to me "Polaris made the Indian Scout Rogue a worse version of the Victory Octane 5 years later". They should have slapped an Indian badge on the Octane and called it a day.

I love my Octane. The one thing I wish it had is a taller 6th gear. 4050 RMP at 70mph is a bit buzzy, so it's not for longer highway rides.

Brandon: I enjoyed your review of the Scout Rogue. It sounds like Indians developed a version of Scout that keeps the cool, aggressive look of Scout Bobber but has made it more versatile for a wider variety of riding and road conditions. This bike may be exactly what new to Indian riders are looking for! (I own four Indians - 21’ Vintage, 19’ FTR-RR, 22’Chief Bobber DH Stage2, 21’ Scout Bobber 1300 (engine has been heavily modified.)

Nice video bro, you’ve definitely done your research and you know Victory and Indian very well . I too am an Indian fan and own a Scout . They are great bikes , I personally own a 2017 Scout that I converted to a bobber (style wise) . I have no complaints other than the cheap stock suspension , that I immediately swapped out for the Fox adjustable shocks which made a huge difference. And one thing that made a monumental difference in everything about my Scout was a driver backrest pad. It made longer rides a lot more fun , plus when you throttle the Scout you won’t feel like your gonna possibly slide off the back ! (It locks you in)...

Great video, Brandon, especially where you are digging the twisties and feeling confident! My Rogue should be arriving by late August. I'm thinking about the rear shock upgrade as I'm used to the 3 inches of travel that I have on my 2016 Scout that I'll be trading in. I prefer the blacked out engine and pipes as opposed to all the chrome on the 2016.
@jasonshortphd
@jasonshortphd 2 года назад
Rear cylinder deactivation really wouldn't help. The exhaust is RIGHT under your thigh, and it stays at 280+ degrees for 5+ minutes after the cylinder stops. They need to change the routing of the rear exhaust. Its the only bike I have ridden that melted the inner thigh of my Aerostitch suit. I have even tried putting a bigger heat shield on, and stuffing under the heat shield with additional thermal - it helps, but its not enough.

Very insightful video, thanks. My wife is currently toying with getting a Rogue and keen to get a test ride. The travel on the show could be an issue as our roads are full of pot holes and her back is fragile. I'm keen to ride the Chief DH but at 5'11" and 15 stone I need the forward controls and Super Chief bars. Keep the videos coming.

I got a Rogue a few weeks ago...1000 miles later and I absolutely love it. No problems to date. I upgraded the headlight and turn signals to the LEDs and I'm having the exhaust replaced with the Indian Stage 1 2-Into-1 Full Exhaust System on June 9th. My only complaint so far is fuel tank size could be larger, at 3.3 gallons you get roughly 120 miles out of a full tank. Other than that it's been all good so far.

The rogue is the complete package. Great looks, a seat that holds you in place, a fairing that blocks the air and comfortable bars. The only downside is the short travel suspension. No way you were here in Ventura. I spat my drink out at 4:15 when I saw Tony's. Pretty cool seeing the places I'm familiar with. I haven't been keeping up with watching your videos lately, but damn was I shocked to see the first video of yours I saw in a while of you riding in my backyard. Hope you enjoyed Ventura County. Great video. I've been riding for only a year and a half, so I never knew about Victory before they went defunct (or whatever the correct term is). I've only ever seen two of them in person. One was like a rolling piece of art with gracious curves and beautiful colors. The other is my neighbor's and looks like a piece of shit, but it's a shit with gracious curves at least. I initially wanted to get a Scout Bobber because I thought it was the unquestionably coolest bike that nothing could come close to (that's how I came across your channel). The Rogue is pretty rad too, but I still prefer the look of the Bobber more with that phat front wheel and lower stance. Between the two, I probably would get the Bobber on looks alone. I haven't test ridden either of them, though, so I don't know how I'd take to the ergonomics. That said, I don't think I would actually get either of them as I've been eyeing the FTR as my new unquestionably coolest bike that nothing could come close to.

You ever thought of renting a victory octane from ridershare or something to do a comprehensive comparison. I know you had the bobber for some time so I'm sure you can think of many topics to bring up. If victory was still around I think the octane would've been the one to go for hands down. It had slightly more hp and torque and was even lighter too, making it quicker in the 0-60 between the two

So I run the Octane front and rear on my Indian scout as well as the octane rear pulley with mini apes. Have been running this for about 2 1/2 years now and the bike feels amazing. I'm actually glad Indian decided to combine the two and grow the Scout a little but I can't say I'm not disappointed and the Rogue seems kind of half arsed. There are so many issues they could have addressed, like the suspension issues, brakes and that throttle but it appears the changes are only cosmetic.

I'm wondering if an aftermarket shock could be found that would give it more than 2" of travel. It really should have at least 3", shouldn't it? Once you sit on it, do you lose 1 of those 2 inches? I would like a 5-gallon tank, a fuel gauge, and what else? A more comfortable seat I suppose but that can be found somewhere. Oh yeah, a 4-speed gearbox, and easy pull clutch and front brake levers. Decisions I don't understand - Why didn't they use the Scout rear subframe? That extra inch of travel seems like it would have eliminated (or significantly improved) one of the biggest complaints about this bike. What I'd really like to see is a Scout+ rogue with a +1 suspension. I'm only 5'9 (on a good day) with a 29" inseam and I'd happily trade an inch of seat height to get 4.5 inches of travel on that rear suspension. [EDIT: the more I think about it, the more I'm sure the right way to go is to add the rogue changes to a Scout.]

Sure thing. I didn’t get much info from that moment. When these things happen, they take the bikes back and get them looked at so we don’t find out exactly what happened right there always. My guess is a bad throttle tube. I had an engine code on a Chief once and it involved the oxygen sensor. That was just a notification engine light though and didn’t affect the performance. I was the only person that had this problem with Rogue. Otherwise, rock solid. 👌🏾

Assuming they get that straightened out someday, I would love to get a Rogue. I'd surely appreciate your opinion on that.

Oof… that’s a tough one. I’m team Chief because it’s a slightly bigger bike and I like the character of ThunderStroke. The Rogue handles a bit better to me with that 19” wheel but both scrape pegs a lot. Cruise control on Chief is hard to pass up as well for me. Extra suspension in the rear might be something to consider in the future with the dual brakes/inverted forks on Sport Chief. Both did VERY well with the windshield. I was left impressed riding both but I’d go Sport Chief for the long term. However, I’d wait until Indian announces the new Scout line-up in a few weeks. May give you a few more options to consider if they make it different enough from the ‘23s.

Losing the throttle on a ride? This is why I don't like electronics. With a cable, you can always find a way to make it work to get home, even if you have to pull it by one hand somehow. I've had to do it. I hope there is a way to do that. I assume there is a throttle body that would have some kind of cable, right? Use a shoelace or something, right?

I had the same issue with my scout. A bad sensor put it in limp mod. I unplugged the battery for about 30 minutes and it ran fine... at least long enough to get me home. Indian picked my bike up and replaced the sensor.

I spec'd one out and was around 15K.... a lot cheaper than a touring bike and I think it would be a great learner bike. The question is, am I too big for it? 350+lbs

When Victory shut down it's shop, Indian who operates under overseer Polaris was trying to get Victory technology, but Victory directorate refused to release mechanical tech to Indian as it was too advanced as they put it and don't want Indian strife under their logo using Victory's blue printing. So Indian shares decent amount of parts with victory. But when people think Indian Scout is basically Victory Octane, they are extremely off. They share general frame design and some essentials like wiring harness, starter, solenoids and relays, but mechanically Octane is a power house in comparison to Scout and their motors have nothing in common other than both wrapped in aluminum blocks. So if you want Victory Octane especially rare Stage 2 factory. I am the proud owner of one. Do not buy scout but go find actual Octane and buy it. You'll have 1000+ cc super sport bike in full aluminum cruiser frame. Fact, my Octane weights in less by dozen pounds than was my 2008 CBR 1000 RR.

Not sure where you got that info from but it’s not correct. Victory engineers are Indian Motorcycle engineers. When Victory shut down, they were moved to the Indian brand. So yeah, same folks designing the same bikes.

@BrandonBicasso
@BrandonBicasso 8 месяцев назад
@@wandickramirez4274 Understandable. I can't answer whether that won't be an issue going forward but I'd like to believe that was sorted. When we do these events, we are there with engineers and upper management so they get our direct feedback. They weren't too happy that this happened while on the ride but.. it happens and they prepare for it. Which is why they had a separate bike ready. That's also why warranties are available although it wouldn't help me much haha. I buy my bikes used and salvaged so I would have replaced this sensor pretty quick. Issue would be if you were out far away from home so I totally get it. I think it's fine tho.

Got a Octane. Looking at the Rogue as a lateral replacement. Would have to get the longer(3inch travel) piggyback shocks.

@@BrandonBicasso as I understand it the Indian replacement shocks are both compression and rebound adjustable. The Octane piggybacks were just one way and totally oversprung but slightly better than stock. Hopefully will gain some lean angle with the longer shock

Polaris chose the" Indian " for brand recognition because of their Harley Derangement issues... Victory was it's own Awesome self! I'll always prefer the Victory ✌. Indian is Indian it'll be okay regardless... Harley's starting to get their shit together though, they kinda need to get over their inflated view of themselves...

@@BrandonBicasso Thanks for the advice and reply. I appreciate that. I think the rear cylinder heating issue would be too excessive to overlook with our Australian summers. The Indian Chief Sport looks to be a much better option for me but it’s a lot more expensive. Rear suspension travel is important as the majority of our major roads,backroads pretty ordinary. We also get a lot of traffic jams with public works especially in Melbourne.

If you look at the difference between the Rogue and the Octane rear shocks, the rear suspension shock angle is quite dramatic. It's just dumb to put inadequate suspension travel, coupled with a ridiculous flat-angle rear shocks on any bike, especially on a cruiser where the rider's weight is primarily on the seat. Come on Indian.
