I have a question Why in America iphone users use Imessage One of the most important thing in a social media/messaging app is cross platform and without this feature your messaging app is flawed and could not be compared to other cross platform betrer apps Look for me any messaging/social media app that is not cross platform is considered one of the worst app even if it has the best features it is still the worst because it failed to deliver its purpose which is to make talking to people afar more convenient Here in ksa and most of the Arab world we use WhatsApp because you could use on it on wide variety of devices but for me still I would love to change because whatsapp works only on one device and to use WhatsApp web you need to have your phone always connected I want a messaging app that is cross platform and works on multiple devices at once and uses email instead of phone number and has a web app so I could use it wherever I want
No if you didn't have wifi or cellular data, it wouldn't send the message at all. How could it? It's because the person on the other end is not using iMessage.
IOS user: *gets a girls number* girl: *so do you want to date?* IOS user noticing she has green texts: *i think it’s better off if we never see each other again.*
@@DoctorHero well, I guess there's some people who don't know, maybe new iPhone users? Idk they'd prolly feel it would be useful for them to know why if they happen to stumble on this video. If older iPhone users still don't know why until seeing this video, then that's a shame. You don't even have to be an iPhone user to have a near perfect guess.
I've always found Americans' obsession with the blue or green texts so out of place and kinda superficial. The rest of the world doesn't even use iMessage, even if you have an iPhone.
Greg, just a suggestion. I'd like to see a video on this channel comparing Windows to Mac and why each OS has its strengths and weaknesses. Just like the Android v iOS video you made last year.
you forgot another reason the mesaage turned from blue to read, the recipient switched from using an iPhone to an Android phone. I have had several cases like that
@@PharaohNai Androids are just better for someone who likes to actually do cool stuff. Android is better than iPhone. And a Libre Linux phone is better than even Android (eventually).
Fun fact, google messages, one of the most popular messaging apps on Android, has light blue for sms, and dark blue for when it's using encryption, so you always get blue messages no matter who you text. They also have features like read receipts, typing indicators, reactions, and even end to end encryption, assuming the recipient has these features turned on as well. So android to android can be just as cool as iPhone to iPhone 🙂
@@The-Heart-Will-Testify yep, sms is terrible for sending images/videos. Try using something like Signal maybe. Samsung has this cool feature where you can create a link which will cause the file to be sent to the cloud in full resolution. It will also allow you to copy this link to your clipboard and/or share it to whoever you want; all they have to do is tap the link (they need internet access), and it will take them to the file. From there they can view/download the file and it will look as good as it did on the phone it came from. Now, this doesn't apply to your friend as they don't have a Samsung but thought I'd mention it xD
@@jonathantierney7301 It's called link sharing. Sharing link (contains files after accessing) through Samsung cloud. Any files can be shared using it even the highest quality. A bit sad part for some is it's default files is 5gb it will be stored in the cloud for 2 days the link will be expired/invalid afterwards. But that capacity is enough for me. This feature also makes me glad that I chose Samsung.
One of the things that I find annoying about the green bubbles is that I am in a group text and unless everyone has an iPhone, you can’t use things like the reply feature, every time you or someone else loves, likes, dislikes, questions, emphasizes, or questions a text message, it appears as an entirely new message bubble from the person, for example, as: Liked “I can come to the activity.”
@@anneofgreengables9 Yeah, I’m grateful for my iPhone 14 Pro. I don’t see the problems that the green bubble presents as a big deal, I was just commenting about it, because it related to the video.
It's because their iphones are sooo outdated and cannot compete with the latest android phones. Android has 200x zoom camera, 120hz, curved display, flip screens! And yet, apple added some ugly widgets that have been available on android since 2009 and called them "new" 😂😂😂😂
@@shadowrock Yeah but that's just how business works lol. But an iPhone may have some points were it is better than others. For me, even tho a Samsung User, *the specialty of iPhone is it is an iPhone.*
This happened to me for the first time just the other day in a group chat with my sisters. It was quite shocking! I was in the middle of a massive download and in a part of the house where I get a weak cell signal. I never knew whether they received my text or not. I assume it was due to the temporarily weak signal.
Advantage: Android, as SMS does support read notifications, which Android uses. However, there are settings to allow or not allow "delivered" and "read" notifications for the person receiving the message.
I had a mix of "it's based on cellular data and wifi" and recently "iPhone vs andriod, but why doesn't it show on their messages instead of mine" and now this explains this
It’s not the color, it’s the features that come with iMessage, the typing indicator, the delivered/read indicator, voice messages, and more are all lost using SMS text.
@@stiegelzeine2186 I meant that apple is not willing to give up profits in the pro segment at any cost Even the RED phone, 100% goes to fighting aids and stuff but apple is not willing to give up that profit in the pro segment
I owned two iPhones in the last two years and I only used iMessage like 3 or 4 times. In Mexico literally everyone uses WhatsApp or Messenger no matter which phone they own.
Yep in europe no one uses iMessage but I always write them with iMessage when I know that the person I’m writing has an iPhone cuz I prefer iMessage more than whatsapp, viber or any other messaging app I try to push people on using it more often 😝
The real reason nobody outside the us uses iMessage is cuz iPhones are too expensive around the world so there’s less people using them hence they don’t use iMessage
@@lifeisshrt7929 yes u are right.. in Balkan most of the people having iPhones are either broken or old iPhones even that it’s 50-50 but still people don’t know which one is using iPhone so for example I speak with half on my friends on whatsapp and half others on iMessage
"iPhone users are less likely to date people using Android" Ohhhh I knew that there was no problem in me, all girls love me but they can't date me coz I use android. Imma buy an iPhone now 😎😎😂
If someone refuses to date you because of your phone, then you just dodged a bullet there. Feel proud that your phone saved you from a toxic relationship
I wish you could customize your colors. So obviously SMS Texts would stay green but for iMessage if you could change it to any color besides green like red, purple, yellow, that would be awesome.
I would dispute the whole 160 character limit with SMS. Most Android texting apps don’t have that issue. Whether it’s Samsung messages or Google messages, they allow their users to text however lengthy of a message they want.
@lucifer yeah. Moreover they’re more expensive in India bec of taxes. We all just use WhatsApp. But it annoys me bec I really love Apple’s app, and I can share photos without them losing their property there, esp Live Photos. But end up having to receive them on shitty WhatsApp because that’s what they’ll use. (Unless ofc I asked them to AirDrop when we meet.)
I know how this feels now as a new iPhone user as it really shows that you can’t send crisp new memes to your friends without them looking like shit or knowing that they don’t have any of the IMessage add ons to have fun
And guess what, half of this feature limiting frustration could be easily solved if Apple decides to include an RCS fallback for communication with Android devices instead of just SMS...but alas whether that'll ever happen depends as much on Apple as it does on the EU...
update: ITS HAPPENINGGGG now we just need everyone to update to iOS 18 although its probably about to get even more confusing cause Apple Messages will have 3 different protocols instead of 2...
TLDR: If the messages were always green, then that means you’re texting an Android user cuz they don’t have iMessage and have to send texts through SMS. If the messages turn from blue to green, that could mean that A. The other person blocked you B. The other person’s phone is off C. Their phone is running out of battery D. They’re (or you’re) in airplane mode E. They or you don’t have WiFi and/or data F. They switched to Android
thank you for informing us. I'm an android user, and yall don't know how many times I've been told to switch to an iPhone for this "green bubble" reason.
Sms supports delivery receipts but I just wish apple will finally get RCS support so all the people on android can see when you are typing or read a message and the pictures you send won't come out terribly
@@linkgaming2144 but it's still proprietary bs and at this point there are sooo many IM's.. Even RCS is end to end encrypted and its not actually complicated to set up like this channel always says... It sets up instantly. We should have RCS become a minimum standard on phones at this point because giving Apple the ability to make messages sooo ass backwards if it isnt an iPhone even though carriers use the new RCS standard instead of sms is stupid.
Meanwhile in China, everyone is on WeChat regardless of phone brand, and iMessage is more often used for spams (as far as I've heard of)... (Also, regular text is usually only for verification codes, and spams)
I have a 6s+ actually. It’ll also be getting 7 years of support, and I’m glad because I was honestly afraid of having to buy a new iPhone since mine wouldn’t get iOS 15. But it will, so Apple is being nice to us for once.
wait, is it because he hates the apple eco-system?? no... it can't be. it can't be that he doesn't want to be locked into a walled garden. or that he doesn't want to support such a pos company.
I had a job in the school system where I was in the teacher's lounges all day which are usually buried in concrete buildings. Wifi didn't work very well in there. In order to text my wife, I turned off iMessage, which meant "green bubbles." When I got home, I got yelled at. I was not allowed to "green bubble" her. Why? It didn't look right.
1:49 I'm a Brazilian and I can say this will never happen here, since iPhone is mostly used by reasonably rich people, besides the fact of SMS not being popular at all, so we very rarely open the native messaging app. Everyone here talk to each other using apps like WhatsApp, even iPhone users.
Android User: So… We’ve kissed and seem to get along well… Will you be my girlfriend? iPhone User: Ummm no. You have an android! Let’s break off contact completely!!! Android User: I- What?!
You also forgot to mention RCS. RCS basically has non of the limitations of SMS but has all the functionality of iMessage like showing when someone is texting you and end to end encryption, too bad apple won't RCS because if they did they would be no reason for someone to buy an iPhone. 'If your android user and want RCS you either have to download google messages or turn it n in Samsung messages
Totally agree with you. Unfortunately google took too long to implement its own "iMessage" thing on Android.. Now everybody uses that third party shit from facebook called whatsapp, and I still can't handle the idea of paying 8k bucks (BRL) on a apple device and immediately install whatsapp as first app for communication.. It's a transgression, such an offense. rsrsrsr
No, what’s frustrating is when I try to send a Text Message and it sends as an iMessage. Or I send an iMessage and it fails and won’t send as text. Even with fallback enabled. I prefer SMS. It always works. Doesn’t require data or a internet connection. I wish iOS offered an option to choose which method to use.
@@marcello8787 I’ve done that before. It doesn’t fall back for me. I have an 11 Pro Max. So it isn’t a software age limitation. It just won’t fall back.
Haven't watched yet, but I'm guessing it has to do with the difference between iMessages and text messages. Text messages are handled by all smartphones, but iMessages are only handled by iPhones.
I use a galaxy note 9 I got 2 days ago (new phone!) It's really nice everyone sees my green messages and I'm fine with that I feel if someone isn't ok with my choice of samsung than I think the person is obviously not a good person but lucky for me everyone respects me on my phone
The Delivery Reports are available in SMS since 1992. In fact all Android phones and all legacy phones have them. Why didn’t Apple chose to activate Delivery Reports on SMS in iPhones?
Or use other messaging alternatives? In my country every single person uses this horrible Facebook Messenger, but u gotta adapt t the majority. Or should i move to the US just cause of this?
this whole blue vs green debate is so stupid to me, like on twitter i used to think people were joking but some are dead serious when they say they won’t talk to someone with an android or if they don’t have an iphone generation 11 onwards. it's pretty disgusting.
Yo I'm kinda offended when you showed us the android phone because the phone is like Launched sometime in 2014 and same for the os it is (I think ice cream sandwich )
Hey said less likely. Which probably means that an iPhone user is 2% less likely to date an Android user. Which is the same the other way around - an Android user is 2% less likely to date an iPhone user.
@@Tom_Stevens617 Nope I don't think think so. I think one of the resons people buy an iPhone is because it's more of a status symbol than a fine tool atleast where I live. Even that is shallow. Also I don't think it's 2% or other way around
@@mellamoakshay Status symbol? The most expensive iPhone is 1100 bucks. The most expensive (non-luxury) phone is the Huawei Mate XS, which is ~$2700. So unless you're buying your iPhones from Caviar, they're definitely not status symbols, at least not where I live. If you don't mind, where do you live btw?
@@mellamoakshay Oh ok, I see. Greg actually made a video about you guys a few years ago. He made a good point about the government's high tariffs and taxes there. You might want to check that out.
...I used to talk to my friend (we both have iPhones) in green color text cuz we didn't have a data plan. You can actually turn an option in the settings for that. Funny how green is associated with android lol even the it's technically not
But I’m texting someone she has a iPhone we are having a full conversation and it pops up as green she can’t see my texts but she texts me what does that mean?
Oh you can, or could get both sent, and delivery SMS notifications back when SMS was the main method of text communication. I remember my feature phones pre 2009 having these features.
If you get blocked it won’t turn green it will just be there without saying delivered or anything it only turns green when they either don’t have service or changed there number or they use android🤷🏾♂️
