A cracked iPhone is the most common repair performed at Apple’s retail stores. With a quarter of users experiencing it. But why do iPhones seem so fragile in the first place? Well that’s what I’ll explain right now.
And on some the display itself is also curved which is an even bigger problem because if the impact is severe enough the layers of the OLED display will start delaminating and it'll develop a black spot or it'll just completely stop functioning And let's not talk about how expensive they are to repair
I think he was explaining back then using that iphone 6 design with one back then but even then phones were starting to be like that (Samsung for example).
some Androids on the same price range have glass on the sides as well, having the display glass and back glass merging making the sides circular. and even 100 dollar androids from 2019 already had glass on the whole surface

Proud to say that I have never broken an iPhone screen or back and I’ve had every generation since the iPhone 4.I do use a case and screen protector though but I never drop my phones.I never purchase AppleCare as I don’t need to.
1:43 many flagship Androids have curved displays which actually makes them more susceptible to broken screens than iPhones. 2:03 Also, with the iPhone 12, in addition to Ceramic Shield, the glass no longer curves over the metal frame. So now, the metal frame absorbs most of the impact when you drop your phone.
We've had iPhone 4, 6 and 12 and never had an issue. I guess we're just more careful with our expensive devices. Plus we don't put them in our back pockets and sit on them.
Same, I've had an iphone 6 since it came out and the only thing that's cracked is the screen protector, not the screen itself. One time I even threw my phone at a wall to test it's durability. Phone was fine, wall wasn't.
0:56 I find it funny whenever a picture of an iPhone is put next to an Android phone in promotional material it's always this specific Android phone which is being used
Always use a a good case and tempered glass screen protector since day one.Your phone shows how well you take care of it.My phones always look as good as new after years of use and I have never broken or cracked any of them.
This guy should be the main lawyer for Apple. I like some stuff from Apple, but that what he says is far away from objectivity. Nothing can defend greediness of company. In interest of company is to make as much profit from sale as they can achieve, and repairing broken display is one of them.
Gorilla glass is some incredible stuff, but always use a case with a lip around the screen edge. My 12 dropped about 5 feet face first onto concrete after a guy in a poorly tuned tuner car backfired right in front of me (and scared everyone on the street)… no cracks. (I use a Spigen case with the magsafe charger ring built in, but anything with that lip around the screen edge will work.)
So in other words, glass didn’t break because glass was protected by a case? Amazing. In all seriousness I think part of it is iPhone owners resistance to getting adequate cases for their phone. Fuck aesthetics, does it protect the phone? No? Then into the bin it goes. But iPhone users definitely seem more hesitant to use them, and this is coming from an iPhone owner. I treat my phone as gingerly as possible, and no issues. The bottom line is: don’t be reckless, and don’t be an idiot.
@@Evercreeper they ain’t hard to hold so long as you aren’t reckless with it. Although either way, the smart thing to do is get a case. It’s the one thing that ticks me off most, is when people don’t use cases and wonder why it broke the first time they drop it.
@@thatcarguydom266 Definitely. I literally have no sympathy for someone who cracks their phone in 2021. A tempered glass screen protector and proper case make that almost impossible.
Apple probably changed from full alloy phones to glass backed ones because there’s more chance of breaking them and coming into an Apple store to get fixed
This was uploaded the day after I got my new iPad ordered. Still anticipating it to come to me, incredibly sad by how long it will take(around a week) since I really want to draw digitally but it's my only viable tool of trade.
I hear you. My thing’s car photography, and I have a lens and case for said lens to attach to for my iPhone XR, but the case is taking a GODDAMN WEEK TO GET SHIPPED. I hate Amazon sometimes. The few things that aren’t crappy Chinese imports take hella long to ship.
I remember when people had iPhone 4 the back was cracked so often and you don’t see that much anymore tbh. I don’t know if they’ve gotten better or people are just fixing it more often.
I didn't know how much of a pain glass phones were when I upgraded to a phone with a slippery glass back. Whenever my phone slips and drops, I always have a moment of heart attack then see it's fine. Of course, I still take care of my phone.
I’ve purchased more than 20 iPhones and used iPhones for me and my entire family for over 10 years we’ve never had a cracked iPhone and no we don’t use heavy duty cases
Similar here.I’ve had every generation since the iPhone 4 and never broken or cracked a screen or back.I mainly only use Apple’s cases.I never purchase AppleCare as I don’t need to.
I've had every iPhone since the 3G and while I may have dropped one or two they've always had a case on them after the 3G and have never had a single scratch or cracked glass. Crazy
Thank you for explaining this, I cracked my Iphone7 yesterday. This is the 2nd time now and I bought an ottorbox case. Luckly the crack is not that bad the 2nd time around, I'm just gonna go buy a screen protector.
I know, but there is glass that is much more durable. Apple chooses to not use that, I guess. And yes, I know that was explained in the video, blah blah blah...
Ive always use otterbox commuter series cases and never had a crack or brake. I’ve had some bad drops thinking this is it my iPhone going to a goner pick it up and still looks new !
The real reason is what you said in the beginning of the video. Cracked glass is their number one repair. Why spend 25 million procuring and installing a new more shatter resistant glass when you can create glass that is just strong enough to not crack every time it's dropped but we can off to the point where it will eventually crack and make tens of millions of dollars off of customers getting stuff repaired. The Apple store charged me $350 to replace my cracked iPhone x screen. It's fucking ridiculous
I just put a $5 glass screen protector on my iphone 12 pro. I don’t use a case for it and I drop it all the time and it still looks great. I also got a cheap glass lens protector that works great. I was using an electic scooter the other day, went over a bump and my phone fell put of my pocket and skidded along concrete for 5 meters. The lens protector was completely destroyed but my lenses are immaculate. I always have a glass lens and screen protector spare.
@@crispyyfries those are school kids loll, generally iPhones have become so much more durable that they really don’t crack with small drops anymore. Big drops will crack any super thin screen🤷🏻♂️
My school van driver uses iPhone XS. He says he dropped his phone for uncountable times and yet it is really durable. The type of casing he used is a leather flip casing.
Guys... the screen protector breaks in situations where the display would not. So you think the screen protector saved your phone but your Display actually would never have broken.

I work in a large warehouse....am around hundreds of people a day. I see a LOT of cracked phones....it's rare I see a cracked iPhone. I don't think they crack anymore frequently than any other glass sandwich smartphone.
@@Kyle1444 that's not been my experience at all. Had a 4s for about 4-5 years. Always in a thin silicone case. A cheap one too. No screen protector. I must have dropped it on concrete 12-15 times. Never a crack or anything other than a scuffed case. Same experience with a 6s
@@lofiseeker1790 I have no dog in this fight. So I have no reason to lie. I'm using a Pixel 4a right now. I wanted to see what all the hoopla was about Android.
I had a iPhone 7 for two and a half years with one year of that in a lifeprooof case, and the other year and a half in a silicone case i dropped it multiple times and it never cracked miner scratches but never cracked!
1:42 sorry mate but that's BS, I don't know what Android phones you're talking about. That example and that example alone is from many years ago and from the same OEM, who doesn't really make smartphones anymore. I know you're an Apple fanboy with a youtube channel but you may wanna grow up. This comes from an iPhone 11 user.
I have had every alternate gene reaction of iPhone since the 5s and have never broke a single one. That’s because I use a spigen case (the thin one) and a screen protector. So all my phones are in perfect condition even today.
I kinda knew why the iPhone cracks more easily because it’s glass with a layer of metal in between. Personally, my iPhone 8+ has a cracked top left corner, but that’s it.
So you use extremely old Android phones too when an Android phone is needed to be compared against an iPhone? Seriously, I expected more. Like, an Android of that time and in the same price range, not the ultra cheap model from 10 years ago... That's where you see the difference between a fan and a fanboy. The fan is fair and critizises. The fanboy does everything to make his own thing look better. Compare a S21 Ultra to the iPhone 12 pro max. Imagine the S21 Ultra running iOS. I think it's clear who's the winner.
I used to work in construction in Australia, new guys would start and pull out an iPhone and we would all ask , hope you have a warranty with that?, we used to have a running bet on how long they would last before they got smashed, longest time was 1 month before it was broken, just totally unsuitable for some industries....
LMAO it clearly is. "Omg iphones crack more easily because the glass is slightly curved and it goes all the way to edges"... when android phones have had proper curved displays for years and hardly any phone had plastic/metal bezels
