I don't watch or listen to RTE or any other of the supposedly "independant" media . I stopped tuning in a few years ago and in hindsight it was one of the best things I ever did, I see people who are reasonably intelligent solid upstanding members of society whose views have been shaped by what they watch and listen to, sometimes I find myself left almost speechless having listened to somebody expressing an opinion on a topic which simple logic would completely debunk.

I don't watch RTE its an embarrassment to the State. If they think I'm going to pay a broadcast fee NOT to watch something, they got another thing coming. I'll not pay under any circumstances, to be lied to.

There's very little diversity of opinion in Irish news media. The vast majority is far left and all uniform in their opinions. Gript is the only one I know of with a conservative point of view.

I haven't read any of the national newspapers or watched RTE or TV3 in years. I'll always remember reading an article by a woman in the Irish Indo where she was hoping that men would become extinct. She mentioned the high rate of male suicide, as if it was a good thing. There was no outcry, obviously.

Great video Ben, very informative - when it comes to our national broadcaster RTÉ Just like the BBC in the UK are now becoming a toxic political driven platform for the narrative of the day in Dáil Éireann, the other side of the coin how much of this is been driven because of Dennis o Brian’s Communicorp influence on Irish media through broadsheet newspapers, television & radio - the latter recently sold to Bauer Media Audio. With dwindling numbers actually watching / listening to RTÉ content, there must now be a realisation that restructuring Montrose should be in the form of reducing RTÉ down to one channel and a dicosntuination of all none relevant radio channels, Why purchase content or remake content that is freely available on other broadcasters, it is a complete waist of taxpayers money, I also do not understand why RTÉ continue to pay BSKYB to be encrypted on the ASTRA SKY platform - All British channels are FTA because of the high cost of encryption - personally I think every dog on the street now knows our national broadcaster is only a puppet on a string especially with the ongoing coverage of COVID-19- and now with an absolutely shambles of the vaccination rollout - let’s have more of Clare Burn live propping up a dummy in a fake bar, observing social distancing while explaining how you will be vaccinated in November or December, instead of explaining to us all how Paul Reed from the HSE deserved a pay rise recently boosting his take home pay to €420,000.00, Paul Reed should be absolutely ashamed of himself & many more in the HSE and well before this pandemic....

I remember being in Turkey in 2014 and locals complained about the lack of a free press there at the time (its worse now) yet at that time there was a few anti government broadsheets and tabloids. Ireland (media wise) is less free now than Turkey was then.

This is an excellent video and required viewing for anyone skeptical of the Irish government's relationship with the media. I say this as a leftist myself (although more in the vein of James Connolly than the Trotskyite Irish "left"). Regardless of political affiliation this is an absolute must-watch.

RTE . Do a terrible job and get a golden handshake according to the public accounts committee. One woman got 450,000 and we pay the tax on that.

It is the same all over though, I watch UK and European France and Spain mostly. People that get jobs in the media go on to work as PR consultant to political parties, people that work in the city of London then go into politics.
